^^^ I literally had this hat in elementary school and thought I was so cool!!

I'm so excited for these polls! We are going to make a theme week out of it and do a Gold/Silver/Bronze and watch the top three!

So the top 3 from this poll will go against the top 3 from the other poll in a final poll-which will actually be on YT ! Does that make sense?

Also-already going to watch MIRACLE

Ps-Already have seen Cool Runnings

Pss-Also going to have a Paris Movie Poll in honor of the Paris Olympics

Without Limits is a far better movie about Steve Prefontaine.

dachen13

Need to include THE SWIMMERS from 2022!

nick bell

Definitely won't get that Olympics vibe with Munich. But it's a great film.

dachen13

It’s on the other poll.

Blake Evans

I voted for Eddie the Eagle because it’s more fun but I really think it should be Foxcatcher just for you to see Steve Carrell completely transform into something “different.”

Tina P

I, Tonya is good. But I also really liked Eddie the Eagle and voted for that one to give it a push.

shaneth138

Figures the one movie that is the least Olympic movie on the list (Munich) is winning. I truly can't stand these polls man.

Jeff Rogers

It's still the best movie on the list.

MikeLL

Never in all my years could I have aniticipated that your Olympic movie polls would have both Cary Grant and Burt Lancaster! Call the medics! I'm feeling weak! Ah, if only either of them had an actual chance!

Tina P

Can you maybe also make this vote multi select like the poll part 1?

Stick Figure Studios

Even though it's not really an "Olympics movie," I'm voting for MUNICH because it's one of Spielberg's best films and essential viewing.

Alex Villarreal

Munich is having a strong showing but will likely need a little context before viewing if it wins.

Ronny Boss

Foxcatcher got my vote

Matt Rose

MUNICH is one of Spielberg's absolute best films.

Jason Murawski

Munich is one of my fav Spielberg films and imo a criminally underrated flick. Hoping this one pulls out the W.

Clay F

I have nostalgia for Munich (2005). Plus, my kind of movie. My top choice in the combined polls.

Above Average Dave

Both MUNICH and I, TONYA are epic films. Also, Margot Robbie is a straight-up chameleon.

MikeLL

Trouble in Pollville! It seems this poll is a "pick one only" poll, while the other Olympic poll is the multiple choice poll I think this poll was designed to be. A re-posting seems in order here!

K, Zachary

You should automatically watch Race. Since we just had D-Day. An American showing up Hitler. I thought Creed III was the one where he fought Drago. Yeah I get those two mixed up. Sorry about that

Clay F

I think Munich (2005) would have a chance to win the final poll if on patreon. Overcoming Chariots of Fire might would be tough. Yet, I have no idea with the final poll being on YT

Eric James

You should have added “Chariots of Fire” to your list - Academy award winning film with a great story and a super popular soundtrack.

zynjams

Running Brave is my favorite Olympic movie, about Billy Mills

Paul Cox

Munich is a stunning film, but I don't feel like it matches the spirit of the theme.

Dave

It's on the first poll. Scroll down...

Eric James

Saw it two seconds after I posted. My bad.

2-Can

I thought there was a chance that 'Clash of the Titans' (1981 over 2010, b/c I'm Old School) might make the list - it partly takes place on Mt. Olympus.

Patrick

I liked Billy Crudup performance better, but both films were equally as good I thought

Troy Silvester

I have to vote for Munich. My brother was an Olympian, and the current World Record holder in the Discus at the time of the '72 Olympics. From a small Northern Utah town, the community raised money for my parents to go see him compete. This was his third (of 4) Olympics Games... he won Silver. So anyway, my Mom and Dad and brother were actually there at that time.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, it's not at all a "sports movie" and it's connectiom to the Olympics is tenuous as it's really just a story whose inciting incident occurs at the Olympics, but it's such an excellent film it should be seen, so I voted for it.

Paul Cox

I agree it should be seen, but considering why she's running with this topic right now it was a mistake to include it.

Just Plain Bob

If Cassie ever decides to watch the story of Steve Préfontaine, I hope she chooses “Without Limits” starring Billy Crudup (I know it’s in the other poll, but it’s losing badly). His portrayal is much more interesting than Jared Leto’s in “Prefontaine.”

Peter Dillard

Also consider '16 Days of Glory/ which is about the 1984 Olympics in LA

John Callahan

Jim Thorpe is a pretty sad story. He was one of those First Nation children that was stolen from their families and "educated" (meaning having their language and culture beaten out of them) by wise white men at the Carlisle Indian School here in Pennsylvania. It doesn't end well, but at long last, his honor and medals have been restored and his achievements recognized.

Kit Thomas

Glad you mentioned that you’d seen Cool Runnings - I was looking for it the moment I saw the poll! 😄

David Freese

I’m going with Eddie the Eagle so it stays in the top 3

Stranger2Reality

I'm bummed that Blades of Glory didn't show up on either of these polls.

T.L.A

This one is tough. Munich, I Tonya, and Foxcatcher are all very good. The only one worth watching in the first pool is Chariots of Fire, Easy!

LDC7080

Munich is very long and Fox catcher oh dear , gone for the ultimate underdog

Clayton Johnson

I'm guessing you have seen "Cool Runnings" since it wasn't on either poll list.

James

Don't forget the cutting edge

Dave

Correct. She says so in the description.

Javier Hernandez

I agree the Bill Crudup movie is better. I'm a little surprised both are in the polls.

Joe Mallard

Foxcatcher! Hope you watch it even if it doesn't win.

Javier Hernandez

Munich is related to the Olympics but not about the games or the athletes. There is an 80's version of that story called "The Sword of Gideon".

Javier Hernandez

I remember watching Eddie continue to compete even though he was simply outclassed by the rest of the field. The jump community embraced him and for a week he was the feel good story of the games. Reminded me of the Australian summer games when one swimming competitors (from an African nation, I think) had to run his heat alone and the entire crowd was on its feet cheering. That spirit is the essence of the games.

David Freese

I was inspired by Eddie because I wasn’t the most physically gifted football player but I saw what he did and worked hard and got a lot of playing time my jr. Year and started my sr. Year and we were really good in my opinion

Kent Theaker

Without Limits and Prefontaine cancel each other out - same story. But Without Limits is far superior. (Written/directed by Robert Towne.) Also Donald Sutherland as Nike founder Bill Bowers. It's unlikely to win, but I highly recommend it to members!

Chris Thom

Some really good ones here. I, Toyna is such a bizarro true story, and just a strange, (fun?) movie. But it's more of a Winter Olympics thing. Foxcatcher is one of the most depressing movies ever made, but with awesome performances. Munich is a solid Spielberg.

Canadianant

Agreed . Should be a write in pick

Canadianant

It's gotta be Eddie the Eagle . It's the Calgary Olympics after all and we have Cassie a daughter of Alberta that hasn't seen it. It's also stars Hugh Jackman. I quickly looked at the pool before having read the description and I thought how was miracle not on here or cool runnings but I noticed you've seen those. Jamaica we gotta bobsled team

ContrabandDonut

Ive seen documentaries about Munich. American broadcaster Jim McKay talking about his long long day is amazing. The heartbreaking clip of him delivering the horrible news at the end?? Ive read the latest book on Jim Thorpe (excellent but the other commenter was right its sad). I saw Foxcatcher. Tonya Harding was just a total gas fire in 1994. I can't with this poll.

Wesley

Foxcatcher is a near perfect film, shame it won't win.

Daniel Fuchs

Watch and react to the film "The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008) about the RAF terror from 1967 to 1977

Brian McGovern

Eric Moussambami I think was his name. He became better known as Eric The Eel. That was warming but funny to see. One guy in a 100 meter swimming even where he was lucky not to have drowned. I think the guy now teaches swimming in his home country.

calum1

This is a cool idea for a poll

Brian McGovern

There are some pretty obscure titles here. I would say Cassie or Ben has googled for movies set during Olympics or based on the Olympics and put them in a poll. They do not want to k now anything about the movies so they are not spoiled. It would explain why there are 2 movies with the same story in the lists.

Larry Darrell

I would say I, Tonya is Fun (in a Stylistic way) and certainly one of the craziest Olympics stories. Awesome Soundtrack. There’ll be tears, too. Pairing it with the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary, The Price of Gold would be cool. I watched Foxcatcher and never wanted to watch it again. That’s all I’ll say on that.

GORDON MORSE

Munich has very little to do with the actual 1972 Summer Olympics. It's all about the Mossad's bloody retribution. Very good movie but there might be a better (i.e., more suitable) list for it. My 2 cents.

Chris Thom

Yeah Foxcatcher came on HBO the other day. Started to watch it, then had to turn it off. There's just something deeply sad about that story. I know the Schultz brother is definitely not a fan of parts of it. He was unhappy about some of the sexual innuendos.

Chris Thom

Fascinating film. But damn it's so sad on so many levels. Steve Carrell was incredible.

Chris Thom

Think she did that like a year and a half ago? Or so?

Chris Thom

Leto gave a great performance as well. The movie that made him a star. Or maybe not a star...but a respected actor at least.

shaneth138

I would watch I, Tonya a thousand times before I would watch Munich again.

K, Zachary

You know Margot Robbie signed a poster herself as Sharon Tate for me.

Clay F

Looks like Munich will win this poll and thus be in the final poll on YT. Never know about the YT crowd, but my guess is the Munich or Chariots will win the YT poll. If not, could be I, Tonya (2017), Richard Jewell (2019), or The Boys in the Boat (2023).

Paul Cox

Personal Best is another Towne film that would apply to this theme, but it's R-rated for a reason lol.

Jacob King

Munich is a rough film considering current events. The documentary One Day in September is a very good look at the actual terror attack.

djKENTO

I wouldn't watch Munich as an "olympics movie"... like... less than 5% of the movie involves the olympics and none of it is about like sports. It's a spy movie. A very good spy movie, but it's a spy movie. Also the comments are going to be fraught with debate.

JULIE

I was “interviewing” a company to do some work for my company and they had done some work for Roots - the company who made those hats and they gave me one (USA)

SplinterTME

I had to vote for "Jim Thorpe - All American" since I am from his home town of Prague Ok.

Stick Figure Studios

A mistake from a certain point of view, but a stroke of genius from another.

thansen

I didn't even think of that. Hilarious movie. That would have been my choice, too. Not a lot of quality Olympics. Surprising.

Cole Jennett

I was at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.😊

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

Wasn't Blades of Glory an Olympic film? I'd love to see Cassie react to that 🤣🤣

Mojo One Thousand

Not exactly "triumph of the human spirit" with some of these movies. That's not a comment on the quality of the movies, just the content and I guess how that buts up against the vibe being about the more positive aspects of the Olympic movement.

Robert Baldino

I know people like Munich, but it is NOT a feel good Olympics movie.

Mojo One Thousand

Eric the eel, as he became affectionately known, is from Equitorial Guinea in Africa. He become the only competitor in his 100m freestyle heat because the other 2 competitors were disqualified due false starts. Despite being well over a minute slower than the fastest qualifier he won the crowds' hearts by personifying what the Olympic "spirit" is about. More came out about his story including the fact he had never swum in an Olypmic-sized pool prior to Sydney, as his country didn't have the facilities prior to those games.

Clay F

I am curious to see if Munich wins in the YT poll

Shawn Kildal

I'm still not over The Revenant winning the "Animal movie" poll.

shaneth138

Critics and audience scores say the exact opposite.

Robert Nelson

No, it's not. But I voted for it anyway because it's an EXCELLENT movie/story.

Larry Darrell

The True Story of Tonya Harding, is not particularly a feel good story, but the film I, Tonya, is done in a Fun way, and brings humor to this sad tale. And it’s one of the more “Olympic” of the movies.

Frisky Dingo

Munich is not a sports movie. It's a counterterrorism war movie.

Frisky Dingo

Eddie the Eagle has Hugh Jackman in it...

Carol_White

I think the message here is that not many people are really interested in movies about the Olympics.

Dan M

While Munich is a brilliant movie by Steven Spielberg, I think its less about the competition and thrill of the Olympic Games, and more about revenge and politics. And its kind of depressing. Eddie the Eagle, on the other hand, is lighthearted and funny, it IS about the thrill of competing in the Olympics, and its got a Forest Gump and Rocky vibe. Plus…its got Hugh Jackman in a role where he’s not angry and/or anguished ALL the time. Its got my vote for this poll.

shaneth138

I, Tonya is light in tone and a highly entertaining watch. A GREAT reactor movie. Munich, not so much.

John Courtright

Munich is definitely NOT a feel good Olympics movie, but it has my vote anyway!

Stick Figure Studios

You are correct, sir. Still a great film, though, and essential viewing, so I voted for it.

Stick Figure Studios

You are correct, sir... but as John said, I still voted for it. It's the best movie on this poll.

Chris Thom

Yeah I don't know if that should've been on the poll at all. Good film though.

Frisky Dingo

Get out of my head. I was about to post the same thing

Stick Figure Studios

Probably not, but I literally included it a week ago on a list of movies I'd like to see Cassie react to, so I kind of have to vote for it. More Spielberg on the channel is always a good thing.

Frisky Dingo

Eddie the Eagle is a true Olympics movie, Munich and I.Tonya are NOT

dan

Munich winning this poll is extremely funny even tho it's a great movie.

Matthew Scarth

Eddie the Eagle deserves more love, Cassie and Carly would adore that movie. Hopefully we'll get a reaction one day as it's clearly not going to win the final poll.

Frisky Dingo

I will say that it's a great film. It just doesn't belong in this catagory

Dean Holt

Yeah I agree it such a great story, I’m also old enough to remember it actually happening and him being on the news in the U.K. lol.

Dan M

Lol…I’ve got Professor X powers

Dan M

I’ve never seen Foxcatcher. Not sure if I want to now.

crazyivan

French Kiss and Taken!!!

WastedPo

I don't mind "Munich" winning, but it really isn't an Olympics movie, at least not like the others are.

Chris Thom

Yeah definitely something to watch if you're in a super dark mood and needing to ponder the loneliness, dissatisfaction, and quiet desperation of the human condition. Or maybe if you're a Channing Tatum fan. lol

Clay F

I am glad that Munich is winning. I voted Munich. It's my top choice in the combined two polls. We will see how Munich fairs in the YT final poll. Pulling for it. Yet, I won't mind if Chariots of Fire wins or one of the other entrys. Seems like the 6 that advance to the YT final poll are all good.

Larry Darrell

Thank You, Cassie, for including some Classic Films for the poll. :-)

Marja

I was going to vote for it because it is so good, but then I thought about Munich. And while it’s not a traditional, feel good film, the impact the events had on all the Olympics games to follow is undeniable. So this is why I voted for it (plus I have a 33-yr old friend, who doesn’t know much history, and even he’s heard of the Munich events!).

Patrick Gibbs

“Munich” isn’t really an Olympics movie, but I voted for it because it’s a piece of history everyone should know about. I actually love that movie, even if hard to watch.

Javier Hernandez

I would not be disappointed with The Boys In The Boat.

Javier Hernandez

Munich is about the Olympics the way The Revenant was about a bear.

Dean Holt

Not really a massive fan of the Olympics tbh but I really hope Eddie the Eagle makes it through even though I can’t see it winning, but I’d highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it as it’s a great story. For the Paris poll if it’s just movies set in Paris, I’d recommend Ronin from 1998 it’s one or the best for car chases and is a brilliant underrated action film with a great cast. From Paris with Love is another underrated action film starting John Travolta.

Mike McLaughlin

Jim Thorpe was voted the most outstanding American athlete of the first half of the 1900s. He is Native American. Was the decathlon winner at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. Played baseball in the Major Leagues and football in the early years of Pro Football. It is a good story.

Jeff Vargas

I, Tonya and Munich are movies that are interesting to watch, but I don't feel as if they are true "Olympic Spirit" movies. One is more tabloid sensation and the other is more the price of counter terrorism

Joe M

For this poll, my favorite is I Tonya. Margot Robbie absolutely crushes it in that performance. Even if Munich does win this poll, I hope Cassie watches I Tonya eventually.

Phillip D Piris

Without limits is another good one about Steve Prefontaine

Chris Thom

The mom too. I think she won the Oscar for it. CJ from West Wing. Totally blanking on her name.

Benjamin Gerrald

I am just glad that Munich is winning. That is an important film. Especially today.

John Liebling

And it stars an actor many of us would like Cassie to put in a poll, Bert Lancaster. Cassie, you've seen him briefly and as an old man, as Doc from Field of Dreams.

Mike McLaughlin

saw the plaque in town that Jim Thorpe lived here. Prague is such a cute town. All the best to them.

Dave

Read the poll description from Cassie

ITMacPro

I can't believe Cool Runnings was left out. Is it because it's a Winter Olympic sport? That is one of the most fun to watch.

Dave

Read the poll description from Cassie

Robin T

Calling Munich an Olympics movie is pretty dark lol

WastedPo

Yeah, it's like lumping in "Gerald's Game" on a poll of romantic comedies.

S Elphick

Foxcatcher is a good movie

TechJJ

If the movie category covers Olympians and not necessarily the Olympics as its main storyline, then I wish "Unbroken (2014)" was to be considered with story of Louis Zamperini.

Mitch M

Sebastian Stan, too. I didn't even realize it was the same guy the first time I saw it. Everyone knocks it out of the park in that movie. Terrific script, too.
