FleetAdmiralJ

Only 4 votes and we all voted the same way 😂

Chris Retzlaff

Easy, no problem, all are great episodes but I'm gonna cheat with the one vote for a two parter

Anthony Carlson

The Inner Light, Unification I & II, Disaster, and Cause and Effect are my picks! Fire away the votes folks!

Gabriel L.

Cassie, her bowl full

Todzilla

Come on I Borg! You can beat Darmok!

FleetAdmiralJ

Both of those should definitely be on her "watch on the side" list. Well really all of these should.

Chris Retzlaff

Cassie and Carly at Mission premiere

Walter Crockett

Come on I Borg! …we can’t skip this one

MikeLL

Darmok, Unification, Cause & Effect, and The Inner Light is my ticket! Let's boldly go!!!

Des Frank Keller

I hate Darmok, never got why people liked it

SuicuneSol

Not sure why I, Borg isn't higher. It has an importance that Cause and Effect does not.

Allan Rumberger

Disaster needs more votes. It would be a terrific episode for Cassie. I get that Unification is going to be the top vote getter, and I get why but they're honestly the weakest episodes on this list. I implore people to at least consider not voting for it.

Lance Li

Should we skip darmok? I borg is a much better episode and also one critical for setting up the movies and other star trek shows

ArsTropica

4th pick: I, Borg vs Ensign Ro vs Cause and Effect vs First Duty. I am so torn.

FleetAdmiralJ

But seriously, my votes in this group is just "yes"

Graeme Edgeler

Perfect for a watch along then? Seeing someone else react may help! Desmond and Cassie watching Darmok.

Texas Anla'Shok

I'd watch all of these, regardless of whether they get picked for reactions.

Mac61

It would be nice if Cassie could watch all of them. They're all good.

Jesse Chalmers

I, Borg is a better episode than Dormok. And more pertinent to Decent I & II, which is a finale/premiere, which are auto includes. Just saying.

Bryan Fritchie

My hope is that she'll see these comments and add it in as a bonus watch. 😁

Des Frank Keller

It won't, I've seen it many times. My feelings on the episode won't change. I'd most likely skip it so I'll stay awake.

Kevin Ryan

I don't understand how The First Duty could be so low on the list

Des Frank Keller

They coming for you, they already after me for saying Darmok is a bad episode lol

Jacob and Kim

I’ve been waiting this entire time for Cause and Effect 🥲

Stranger2Reality

I can't help but be curious: if "please stop watching Star Trek episodes" was an option here, what kind of votes would it get? Barely any or would it win in a landslide?

Michael G

Darmok, Disaster, Cause and Effect, and the Inner Light. I know Unification will win, but this season and next i would have happily put in the place of the next Season 6 Final, as automatic watches. So I went with Disaster. Something Cassie had asked for, which was more O'Brian, not to mention a full cast episode that mixes up the pairings. 7 of these are IMO must watches from Season 5, with I, Borg bing the thing out of place. My only recommendation to Cassie would be. If you are going to watch episodes on your own (of course highly recommend this entire season since IMO it is the strongest off all the seasons) and you only want a few extras, There are 4 great guest appearances this season, two are on this list, in Unification and Cause and Effect, and the other 2; The Game, and The Perfect Mate, that you watch those as well. I think you will LOVE the game. From this list i would suggest, Ensign Ro, Disaster, and The First Duty.

Bryan Fritchie

It's a shame we're not going to get more episodes, because I think Disaster would be one of Cassie's ALL TIME favorites.

Chuck

In bed, the popcorn lies.

ArsTropica

your reply doesn't make sense

ArsTropica

I voted for it. I think that it's one Cassie would enjoy.

Michael G

Because it is not a good episode, and while it may time into later episode, that and this are both skippable, over higher quality episodes

Michael G

No we should not. It is one of the best episodes in all of Trek. I.Borg is a bad episode, it utterly destroys a character, and undermines and reduces the quality of the earlier episodes they were introduced in.

D. T. Nelson

Cassie needs to watch all of these. Inner Light (one of the best TNG episodes ever), Unification (for obvious Cassie reasons), Darmok (Most quoted TNG episode), Cause & Effect (pure time twisty enjoyment), and I, Borg (excellent episode that ties into the Season 6 finale) are all essential viewing for any Star Trek fan. I would also include Ensign Ro & The Next Phase on the list. Cassie would also love Disaster for the character development, action, and emotional impact. ... So many abandoned orphan episodes this season.

Mike A

All of them. Seriously. I honestly don't know how to vote, because these are all top-tier episodes that I would recommend as "essential" to anyone watching this show for the first time. At least this means the final four will all be good choices.

SuicuneSol

I get it. But if she's not going to skip the season finales, then she can't skip this.

Tom Furze

Great choices. From what I can see, most people like Inner Light, Unification, and Cause and Effect (although I think I saw some who didn't think Cause and Effect should get through, not that they didn't like it, just they felt others should go through) Now I am asking this, I like all of the ones on the list, and have not completely decided. Please share why I should vote for certain one and why you think I should vote that way. I am a kid looking at a bowl full of his favorite candies and can't decide which 4 I want to eat.

Michael G

It is a strong list of 7. It is not a reflection on The First Duty, it is still a grade A episode, it is just what it is surrounded with.

Orion

Honestly all of these should be watched, at least on her own, this is the hardest vote yet. There are a few on here that really do set up important things later. All that being said, I’m amazed there’s any doubt about darmok, i think she’ll love it. and cause and effect is perfect to watch people react to, ifykyk

Verteron

Can we double our subs for a month and get all eight episodes? =D

p0sthum4n

I am so glad to see Cause and Effect coming out in the top group but I am disappointed to see Darmok beating out I, Borg.

Dylan Melton

When I think Star Trek, I think of Darmok. It is a masterpiece on multiple levels, only one of which being that it’s great Trek. it’s one of the best studies of human nature, it has some of the best acting start-to-finish through the episode of any episode, it’s eminently quotable, it really tugs at your heart and the climax is an absolutely immense emotional payoff. It’s been a warm part of my family’s life through the years and I can’t say enough good things about it. I’m obviously rooting for it, hard. But honestly, Season 5 is probably the peak for great NXG episodes.

ArsTropica

What about Please Do a round 2 of all the entire TNG series? Joking. I understand that this must be on the frustrating side for non-trek fans. But on the bright side, there are only 3 seasons and 4 films left... Then, Voyager, Enterprise and the new Trek movies.... 😁 Joking!!! kind of... actually, NOT.

Lance Li

I don’t understand darmok’s appeal. Perhaps communication problems are only now appearing in tng whereas that was a recurring theme in tos? The concept of it is so stupid i don’t think it’s even conceivable logically. That’s because metaphors alone can mean too many things at once. It doesn’t take a minute of thought to understand this.

James Knight

I think upon reading the synopsise for those episodes she'll watch them off camera. I agree though, tough vote as they're all good episodes which encompass various themes and directions.

Andrew Pulrang

"The First Duty" is so good. I wonder if some people are forgetting which one that is. Also, I'm sad to see "Ensign Ro" getting so few votes. I'm curious why that might be. Is it too topical / issue driven? Do people dislike the character?

Tim C

Darmok is a good one ,almost picked Ro. I liked her character but a bit dark, not your typical Starfleet.

ArsTropica

Agreed. But she may not connect with I, Borg, for aesthetic reasons. Cause and Effect may be a bit too much on the technical side, and Ensign Ro requires some background info to be fully appreciated. Ergo...

Michael G

Darmok - One of the greatest ST episodes ever, and a perfect "to seek out new life and new civilisations" episode Ensign Ro - A Fantastic Character introduction that really opens up the universe of ST Disaster - A classic premise. A full utilisation of the whole cast, even the secondary cast. It also mixes up the usual pairings. Unification - Cant say for spoiler reasons, but it also ties into previous watches story lines. Cause and Effect - A amazing guest appearance, and a great sci-fi concept The First Duty - Character development, ethics, morality . Full Picard is the mentor you want mode I,Borg - I am no fan of this episode, but it follows up on a previous character introduction (wreaks it IMO) and plays into the Season 6 Final The Inner Light - One of the best scripts in TV history for 42 min Some would make for better reactions: Disaster, Cause and Effect, The First Duty, The Inner Light Others are for the ST zeitgeist: Darmok, Unification, Cause and Effect, The Inner Light

Ike

I’ve had enough BORG and WORF, Son-of-Mogh… if I’m being honest. Let’s get back to the voyage, strange new worlds and new civilizations. - Darmok - Unification 1/2 - Cause and Effect - The Inner Light

Ike

Same page.

Dylan Melton

Both of those are good, but the problem is season 5 is a gauntlet of tough competition. Absolutely chock full of great episodes..

Orion

Both are good, but i just wouldn’t describe first duty as essential compared to the others. Ensign ro is great, i just don’t think it beats out the others i would’ve actually preferred the next phase

ArsTropica

and turn the channel into a plutocracy? I like it!!!

Cliff Endicott

The First Duty isn't getting much love, but MAN is that a solid episode. Introduced us to Boothby and life at the Academy. Love that one, even though it appears to have no chance of making a dent in the poll.

Anthony Carlson

Even as a Trekkie, the later shows would be too much for Cassie. And I agree with Andrew here that this channel cannot be focused on Star Trek too much.

Caomhan84

Every one of these you will enjoy, Cassie. So whatever the final four is for the channel, try to find the time to watch the others on your own if you can.😊

djKENTO

I want to propose a test... Watch The Inner Light with Carly if possible. Don't give her an onboarding or inform her of who is who... just sit down together and watch The Inner Light. It's literally been my introduction episode of the show to friends for like... 20 years and it ALWAYS works without basically any prep.

ExploreWinnipeg

These polls made me go back and watch season 5, wow it's so good. I also like the game, outcast, and first duty.

ArsTropica

I like Worf and some of the inter-species politics in the Klingon arc, but I still don't get why those episodes dominated the votes in the earlier seasons.

Verteron

I want what I want, and willing to pay for it!

Nate St. Pierre

And some great Picard moments, too... I'm also surprised at how little love it's getting

ArsTropica

no argument from me... ;-)

Michael G

What a FANTASTIC suggestion.

Ike

Without spoiling anything… 1. Darmok - presents a “strange new world” 2. Unification 1/2 - the reason is sadly too obvious 3. Cause and Effect - is a classic Star Trek paradox and trope reminiscent of TOS 4. The Inner Light- is stated as Patrick Stewart’s favorite episode and a brilliant spec script. The others are great too, but I filtered out setting up new characters/threads that don’t expand the characters we know, end rather abruptly, or are a rehash of things we already know. Just my opinion, of course.

ArsTropica

fantastic idea - I did this with my mom.

Dylan Melton

I forgot about The Game!!!!!

PianoDean

I did that exact thing a couple of birthdays ago when everyone had to watch what I wanted to watch. I chose to show "The Inner Light" to 2 ladies who did NOT think they would like Star Trek of any kind (they'd never given it a chance in any iteration). Although neither of them instantly became fans...they both admitted that it was not at ALL what they THOUGHT Star Trek would be and that it was a DANG GOOD episode of TV entertainment period.

K, Zachary

Coming down to the wire!

Bubba Fett

I think those get popular because they start long running arcs that last the series, move fwd to the other series and movies and begin a level of world building that didn't previously exist for the most part. I sort of wish those would be treated as default like the season endings to allow some select episodes get mixed in there some.

ArsTropica

Skin of Evil, when the votes fell.

Todzilla

Look Darmok is good, but for tying in more episodes and movies, I Borg is better. How about this idea?!? Let's try and get I Borg to TIE with Darmok? Maybe we can get Cassie to watch both 😉

ArsTropica

These polls are like going to the track.

Clay F

Yeah, we do get two for one with the two parter.

Ike

Some of us watch a season ahead of the reactions and some of them just stand out more than others. More often than not, it’s because of the B-Plot of a few that helps set the stage for the A-plot of others. Case-in-Point: Season 4 reactions were SEAMLESS. “Family” flowed into “Reunion” - the preamble of the season finale - while the results of (the B-Plot) in “Data’s Day” revealed what was true and factual in “Drumhead.” And all of them were still excellent, popular episodes. In my opinion - Season 4’s vote (while leaving out some of my personal favorites) was flawless. I’ve let go much of my own favorites by voting to bridge good character episodes. Heck, we still haven’t seen the Best of TOS like: “Journey to Babel” or “The Menagerie” or “Balance of Terror” or a “Piece of the Action,” but she still got to love the crew in others ways. The same will be true here and she’s smart enough to fill in the gaps - if they exist - instead of slugging through unenjoyable stories like “Skin of Evil” which I found wholly unnecessary.

Chrissonator

Still a tough decision to narrow it down to 4 episodes lol

Clay F

Maybe a better chance to beat Cause and Effect than Darmok

Clay F

That will be the S5 final 4

Chris Retzlaff

If she was watching the premiere and finale episodes, the through arc for worf was important for Redemption 1 and 2. Plus needed to introduce The Klingon sisters. I'm glad we are done with that now. Season 5 and 6 are great

Clay F

I like Darmok but not voting for it b/c I think Cassie would find the least entertaining of the 8. I could be wrong.

ArsTropica

I get the satisfaction of having episodes fit together. Still, trying to build arcs out of the few selections that we get, also means that a lot of excellent standalone episodes get left on the floor, as you pointed out.

Clay F

Yeah, skip the finale and instead do I Borg, Ensign Ro, or First Duty as an autowatch. But unfortunately too complicated for that to happen.

KTVindicare

People are trolling Cassie by wanting her to watch Darmok. They just want to see her confused for 45 minutes.

Clay F

Unification is overrated in portions and political (which Cassie is generally not fond of) but has the guest appearance. In Disaster, she would like the kids and the stuff w/Miles and Keiko

Chris Retzlaff

Picard season 3 at least, but I think she would like Enterprise

Clay F

Yeah, skip Darmok. I like Darmok but Cassie would surely find I Borg, Ensign Ro, First Duty, and Disaster more entertaining than Darmok.

Clay F

Ensign Ro

Clay F

The Game has the cute actress.

MikeLL

We absolutely can. I, Borg is the most skippable.

David Collins

I think there's a good chance it will be one of her favorite episodes.

Clay F

Skip reacting to Nemesis and instead react to the top 7 of these 8.

Chris Retzlaff

Darmock is just classic Trek, I don't mid I Borg, the Edward Scissorhands in Space episode😂😂

Robin T

Speaking to the Klingon/Worf stuff- mostly I think they've dominated the last couple seasons because that arc dominated those seasons. But with Redemption past that arc is basically done as far as I'm concerned, so by all means let us move on. As to the Borg, we've only had Q Who and Both Worlds yes? That's pretty much the bare essentials. I'd like to get I, Borg in there as she'd like it and if she's watching all the finales it will leave a hole in one. But I also wouldn't put it ahead of Inner Light, Cause and Effect or Darmok, so I guess that's it for the Borg for now.

MikeLL

It could be that Cause and Effect is correctly perceived as being much more entertaining that I, Borg, which is not a very exciting episode, to say the least.

Chris Retzlaff

Desmond with eyes shut, 🤣🤣 I feel ya, but love Darmok

ArsTropica

I have a feeling that she might eventually watch Picard. Cassie is character-driven, and methinks our gal has developed a bit of a Pash for the old Cap'n.

Chris Retzlaff

Wish there were Hedges and Hair He could cut while Hugh falls in love with Winona

Anthony Carlson

That would be my suggestion too for another show after the movies.

Chris Retzlaff

I didn't refresh, I'm a dumbass😂😂

ArsTropica

I think Unification is a quantity vote. Not complaining though.

Clay F

The Chris Pine ST (reboot) trilogy is coming.

David Collins

Doesn't appear Ensign Ro is going to make it but Cassie needs to see that (and I, Borg) on the side. She missed some earlier Character introductions and it has detracted from some of the episodes she did see. That's unfortunate.

Clay F

She would like the kids.

Clay F

Skip reacting to Nemesis and instead react to the top 7 of these 8.

Clay F

With both Darmok and Inner Light winning, 2 of the 4 episodes would be Picard centric episodes in which the remaining crew for the most part is ignored. Not good for familiarizing Cassie with the crew. I think Cassie would like Ensign Ro and The First Duty better than Cause and Effect and Darmok. My rough ranking of the 8 in order based on what Cassie would find most entertaining: 1. Ensign Ro (new character/race, great story, social issues, Ro connection w/Picard) 2. The First Duty (investigative, loyalty, doing the right thing, Picard background) 3. The Inner Light (she would not like the crew being ignored) 4. Disaster (female leadership, kids, Miles/Keiko) 5. Unification (political, this could be ranked lower if not for the guest appearance) 6. I, Borg (Cassie would have the empathy flowing) 7. Cause and Effect (a bit technical but exciting) 8. Darmok (awkward classic episode w/cool resolution - she likes when puzzle solved)

Clay F

I'm in.

Clay F

I voted Ensign Ro instead of Darmok

Clay F

The First Duty is a strong episode that Cassie could appreciate and would keep her attention -- investigative, and issues of loyalty and doing the right thing. Good theme and resolution. Plus, stuff (including background) with Picard. Robert Duncan McNeill did well. I liked him in Voyager.

Billy Higgins

The season 6 finale is gonna be pretty confusing if Cassie doesn’t watch “I Borg” 😧

Ike

I think Cassie would like ALL OF THE EPISODES to be honest. I didn’t mean to suggest that there is an agenda to control which episodes successfully stitched together - there’s no way to control that, there’s hundreds of votes - I’m just pointing out that peoples’ favorites happen to flow together nicely in Season 4. That fact may be an unintended, but direct result of Star Trek writer, Michael Piller’s selective interests more than anything else. Someone should tally up how many Michael Piller episodes were voted in.

Michael G

That is okay, both are skippable episodes, but there is not enough of a connection for it to really matter. If anything previous episodes featuring a different character that were missed is more of an issue. That is part of why my strong recommendation would be to skip Descent and put Chain of Command in the 2-part automatic watch.

Michael G

I, Borg ties into one more bad episode, and has no connection to the movies. It is okay to skip it.

Clay F

Good point Mike. Cause and Effect is definitely more exciting. Cassie's empathy would be flowing with I Borg.

The One True Chris

This is crazy. There's no argument for NOT watching Darmok, The Inner Light, Cause and Effect, Unification 1/2, AND Disaster. Not one of those 5 episodes is skippable.

The One True Chris

Exactly why "Disaster" should be doing better in this poll.

Clay F

Ha, the Edward Scissorhands episode. Good one. I like that. The strongest argument for Darmok is that it is a classic Trek episode. I love Darmok but, again, I think Case would find Ensign Ro, First Duty, and Disaster more entertaining.

ArsTropica

Either way, Chain of C is a must watch.

ArsTropica

I think that everyone will get at least 1-2 episodes that they voted for. That hasn't been the case since season 1.

Daniel Turbyfill

Watching Picard season 3 requires watching season 1 and at least some familiarity with DS9 and to a lesser extent Voyager.

Story Archer

Honestly, I think that Cassie should watch as many episodes as she likes, record them all and then just let the polls decide which ones get edited and posted. It'll give her the chance to be as caught up as her life will allow without flooding the channel with nothing but Star Trek. Might even provide a little cushion for when she needs a little extra time for herself.

The One True Chris

Well, to be fair, season 1 didn't have so many good episodes! :)

Story Archer

Ensign Rho has got to be included - she's in every other episode listed and Cassie won't have a clue who she is. Plus, her relationship with Picard is an important one now and in the future, and one that would resonate with our lady pretty strongly, I think. Not to mention the introduction of Bajorans and the Maquis, which leads into both DS9 and Voyager. I STILL can't believe that Cassie is going to get all the way through the entire series without ever meeting Troi's mom, Luxwana...

Clay F

Ensign Ro is the top choice for Cassie imo. The episode itself provides adequate background. The connection w/Picard is a nice touch. Cause and Effect is a bit technical and likely not a favorite for her. I, Borg -- I think she would overcome aesthetics and have the empathy flowing. Conclusion -- for these 4, I think she would find most entertaining ranked in this order: 1. Ensign Ro 2. The First Duty 3. I, Borg 4. Cause and Effect

Gabriel L.

I love both of those eps but your point is very valid. Personally I'd take Darmok over Inner Light but I get people who feel otherwise.

Clay F

Yep, definitely an awkward episode.

TechJJ

Definitely great introduction for Carly without any background needed...

Todzilla

Actually I Borg ties into a major theme that is throughout TNG, Voyager, Enterprise and a movie. The Borg are the Borg. It has more value than a standalone episode of Darmok.

TechJJ

I agree completely. Baby, Miles, Picard with Kids, ... I would bet any day that Cassie will love Disaster.

Ike

Major themes are irrelevant. More value is irrelevant. You will vote for Darmok or be assimilated :)

Ike

Interesting idea! Of course watching more to have “a little extra time” is sort of a zero sum game :)

Story Archer

Think of it more as putting money in the bank for later... but more importantly, she'll get to watch episodes that she's curious about. It doesn't cost her anything extra to record it, and she doesn't have to wait for the results of the poll to watch.

SRSChaos

It is a shame Disaster doesn't look like it will make the cut. To be honest it wouldn't make my top 4 but I really think it would make Cassie's

PG Modehouse

Cassie would LOVE Disaster for the Picard and Worf moments. But I guess she'll miss those too. Womp womp. I, Borg is relevant to the two part finale. Cause and Effect is cool af, but it's not better than Darmok.

Earthen

The only real answer is to ignore this poll and watch all of these. I know you're concerned with the channel getting "taken over" by it but honestly I think you have a pretty huge following here that would be here for it.

Kevin Ryan

Ensign Ro isn't as important to the future story as people think. Really she is just a failed character, as much as it would have been nice to see more of her. Wesley was there from the start and to see him get himself in such mess is truly disturbing.

Allan Rumberger

I didn't mean to come off like I think it's bad; it's TNG so it's automatically better than 99% of television, but as TNG goes it's mid to upper-mid at best, and aside from the one reason everyone is voting for it, it's not going to wind up being a favourite for Cassie. Disaster would definitely be her exact cup of tea, which is why I wish more people would vote for it. It is what it is though.

Story Archer

One of the better episodes in the entire series imo.

Allan Rumberger

At this point, the season ending cliffhanger two parters aren't worth watching anyway. Not one of them would win a poll if placed in it. If I, Borg doeshn't win in this poll (it's actually a pretty good episode that I think she'd enjoy immensely, but it's not in my top 4 on this list), then she might as well not watch Descent either (and she already missed the other lead-in to that episode, Brothers, anyway). Descent is bottom-tier TNG, IMO.

Mark Daniels

I wasn’t gonna vote on these until this episode came up, but I’m writing in a vote for The Game. Hated by many, evidently, but beloved by me.

Allan Rumberger

That episode's strength is that you start out confused, but it leads you clearly and directly to through the revelation and understanding, making you feel smart in the end because you can understand everything being said (even though it's not that challenging once you grok the premise). It's not great sci-fi, amd it's terrible linguistics, but it's fun and thought-provoking nonetheless. An absolute S-tier TNG episode.

Allan Rumberger

She's courteously disliked almost every episode that was selected solely to set up future episodes or movies though. At some point, don't people ask why they're making her sit through the types of episodes she doesn't like (and don't represent what the show was about or a typical episode was like), instead of voting for episodes she will love?

David Freese

It was supposed to be Ro in the role Nares(sorry for any misspellings) ended up being but she was doing something else I believe.

Allan Rumberger

The thing ia, TNG was not serialized television. It was standalone, except for a handful of 2-parters and maybe three or four scatteres arcs across a few seasons. The show was always at its best when the ship went somewhere, encountered something they'd never seen before, and wrapped everything up just in time to fly away to their next adventure. That was what the show was. If what you want is long-running character drama with serialized storytelling, DS9 exists, along with virtually every TV drama made in the last 20 years.

Andrew Buel

I know people are going to have strong feeling about this one. But here we go. I voted for Darmok, Unification, I Borg, and Inner Light. It will be Picard heavy but the episodes are hailed as some of Patrick Stewart's best. Don't sell Cassie short on Darmok. Let her watch it before you condemn it as too confusing. Unification is a no brainer. I Borg more than likely isn't going to pass C&E, but I guess I'm one of the few who is invested in Descent. I hope Cassie watches it on her own time. The other episodes are great too, but that one will be important for a two parter that she is going to watch. Again, it's Cassie's channel and Cassie's life. It's up to her how much of her time she commits to Trek, and it isn't the end of the world if she doesn't see your favorite. Make your case and vote! Thank you for the reactions and on to Season 5! Engage!

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

I wholeheartedly disagree! One observation that's been consistent in the years that I've been following Cassie is her indomitable empathy and profound insight. She has the uncanny ability to peel the layers of everything she has been exposed to. As charming and entertaining she is, her best attribute as a "reactor" is her ability to truly appreciate the art of filmmaking.

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

Not to spoil anything but Iborg is very necessary to recall when you watch the Paramount + series: Picard

Randolph Tirazona

Darmok: Ensign Ro, Laren; Unification; Inner Light

Todzilla

"Darmok" over "I Borg" is as bad as "Data's Day" over "Brothers". I mean why give Cassie one of her favorite characters origin story when you can give her Miles & Keiko's wedding?😅 Like a one off episode of Darmok over I Borg?😅

Fanchman

I honestly don't remember much about Darmok. I hope it is as good as many people seem to indicate.

Fanchman

I liked I-Borg, but considering future storylines involving the Borg (especially in Voyager), it is clear the writers decided that story didn't work.

Fanchman

That's not going to happen. I visit Jen's page for a full series watch along.

Fanchman

That's fine with me. I find Luxwana annoying.

Mark

Darmok and I, Borg are such significant episodes by more than one criteria I hope they don't count. Both are must watch in the development of Picard.

Mark

I ask Cassie to watch all Q, Borg and Picard episodes on her own, not counting

PlayfulPB

I voted for Ensign Ro....because the character is just that damn good. I know it won't win...but, honestly, Darmok, Cause and Effect, Inner Light....so much good in this season.. I do notice that "Cool" and "Plot" win out over "Character", when Cassie would love the character episodes. Heck, in season 3, there was an episode she was (unknowingly) begging for, and the community ignored it. Just an observation on how people vote for what they want to see, and not what they think Cassie would like.

Katie Jackson

Since it probably won't win I'd suggest watching the Ensign Ro episode, either on your own or as a reaction. It is somewhat important for the rest of the series. (It's also a really good episode)

Johnny

I haven't seen The Inner Light in a long time, so I'm really looking forward to it. I think Cassie will love it.

Brian McGovern

I let the Trekkies choose these. I have no skin in the game. Just like watching them.

pound

She should really watch all of these

Clay F

Ditto

Clay F

Yep. Ensign Ro a top 4 episode. Character development.

Clay F

Ensign Ro = a foundational episode for a character/race, and the Ro solidifying connection w/Picard -- all in a single episode -- a basis for future episodes.

ShazD

I wish she would skip the Descent two parter though... Its garbage.

John Sullivan

Lucky you. Caring too much is stressful 🤣

John Sullivan

It's a good analogy But now that we skipped Brothers, maybe we can skip the Descent and I Borg. Just avoid that whole arc?

Mark White

I don’t think ‘ i Borg’ is going to make the cut. Someone needs to tell Cassie to watch it on her own. It’s not essential for watching the end of season ‘Descent’ but it would be nice for Cassie to be able to make the connection with the characters.

John Sullivan

Darmok is good, but I wonder if it's winning because it's implanted in our minds through repetition - rather than because it's better than Ensign Ro and First Duty. I don't think it would be more fun for us or Cassie than those two

John Sullivan

Rickrolll. Face palm. Woman yelling at cat.

John Sullivan

@Kuskesh Do we want to watch Picard? I'm a Trekkie for life and even I couldn't get through season 2

John Sullivan

@Clay it's the best Wesley episode. But with all due respect to Wil Wheaton (who is delightful IRL if you ever meet) there are better mystery episodes

John Sullivan

Maybe two Borg episodes is enough. They don't feel threatening when we see them too often Looking at you, Voyager 🤨

DragonConToddOfTheDiscerningGeeksPortalPodcast

It hurts to see “The First Duty” coming in dead last at the moment. To me, that’s a top 10 episode of the whole series. Season 5 is probably the best season, so if there’s a time to break the rules and just watch 8 instead of 4, it’s this one time. “Darmok” has a flaw in logic no one ever talks about, but it has great character moments. I’ve never liked the “Ensign Ro” episode, but it’s essential to understanding that recurring character later. “Disaster” is technically expendable, but it might be the “cutest” episode of the bunch. “Unification, Parts 1 & 2” are a little overrated but still essential for the connection between TOS & TNG. “Cause and Effect” is technically expendable but is a very well done sci-fi mystery that appears to be winning anyway. “The First Duty” is such a great, mature, and unusually dark character episode with an amazing Picard speech and Wil Weaton’s best performance as Wesley Crusher. “I, Borg” is the last of the great Borg episodes with one of Star Trek’s biggest moral quandaries, and as so many others have pointed out, it will be essential to understanding the season 6 cliffhanger and season 7 premiere (even if those aren’t that good). And, “The Inner Light” is simply the best episode of the entire series, especially with Cassie being such a Picard fan (speaking of that, please skip the “Star Trek: Picard” show altogether; it does not serve the character nor the franchise well at all). So narrowing TNG season 5 down to only four episodes means leaving too much behind, more than ever before. The only thing harder would be narrowing some seasons of DS9 down to only four episodes each (ooh, and speaking of that, I would highly recommend that “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” be reviewed, as Star Trek’s best show, but that Cassie also considers reviewing “Babylon 5,” the best TV show ever).

DragonConToddOfTheDiscerningGeeksPortalPodcast

…To clarify further, season 5 is *peak* TNG. Season 6 might be tricky and also semi-difficult to narrow down to four best episodes. But, season 7 is definitely a dip in quality, making four episodes easy again. Looking at the original season 5 polls, too many other great episodes have already been left behind. Narrowing down to just four is too tough.

John Sullivan

S4-6 are full of good episodes. It's impossible to pick I'm just happy "The Inner Light" is in

Ben Allen

Sorry, but we need all eight of these. The decision must be that there is no decision. Like Kirk cheated on the Kobiyashi Maru, we must cheat here. This is a no-win scenario! Just pretend it's two seasons. No-one in your audience who doesn't watch Star Trek will ever know. They will just think there are eight seasons of TNG. There are no Klingon episodes in this batch, it that helps! :) PS. How can First Duty be dead last? It contains the most memorable scene in the show!?

Neil

I tend to vote for episodes I think will feed into further episodes Cassie will watchj. iBorg will be an important plot developer for the Series 6 finale later on. However there are no bad episodes on the list. Agreed on Ensign Ro, one of the best and complex characters across all Star Trek

DiSarli

It’s always a struggle between episodes that are really interesting on their own and others whose content is actually picked up in other Start Trek series or even in the movies.

Allan Rumberger

The one-off episodes are almost always better than the arc/setup episodes. This one is borderline as I think Cassie would like I, Borg (I foresee the word "tender" coming up a lot), but Darmok is a solid episode that takes a flimsy premise and makes it interesting and thought-provoking.

John Sullivan

We'll get the best Q episode for free at the end. Maybe that's enough

Allan Rumberger

I literally fell asleep during the finale of Picard season 1. I don't know why I even watched that far, as the show was just so, sooooo boring and stupid. That's when I finally gave up on new Trek. I'd already written off Discovery, but Picard was where I tossed it in the "no longer of any use or interest to me bin" along with Star Wars (Boba Fett episode 1 was the point for me there)

MikeLL

I'm with you. It is my favorite episode of the series.

MikeLL

I think Disaster would be my #5 pick from this list, a shame it won't be included, and Cassie would really enjoy it.

MikeLL

This is a stupendously fantastic idea to have Carly in on The Inner Light watch!

MikeLL

Folks, all Cassie needs is a comment just explaining to her that in I, Borg the crew met a Borg named (spoiler) at a (spoiler) and he (spoiler). That's it. One sentence explains the episode and then we won't have to sit through the whole boring episode. (ducks head) Allan Rumberger: I did the same thing when watching I, Borg yesterday evening trying to figure out why it was so dang important to future stories. Started watching but the show put me to sleep. rakesh: You have confirmed what I expected. One line in a future show explains I, Borg.

Tony Andarian

I'm going to have to differ on Picard Season 3. I do agree on seasons 1 and 2, and S2 is particularly awful. But Picard Season 3 was fantastic. It's some of the best Trek I've ever watched, and I genuinely hope Cassie decides to review it.

MikeLL

John, it IS enough. No Borg or Q is needed going forward. One meets at the end.

MikeLL

Holly, methinks you were referring to Captain's Holiday.

MikeLL

The episode could be explained in a one sentence comment. No need to watch it. And as rekesh said, it is recapped in Descent.

Dean Holt

All four episodes winning at the moment are all excellent. It’s a shame Disaster doesn’t look like winning but I’d definitely recommend Cassie watchers it in her free time along with I Borg. Disaster as some good individual storylines including Picards little adventure that I think Cassie will love. I Borg is quite important regarding the S6 ending.

Ben Schwartz

Yep, all four episodes are quality Tier 1 Star Trek. Good representation of season 5 as a whole, which was arguably the best season of the show.

Mark

We all only want Cassie to see everything important and doesn't miss any of her favorites (certain one of and two partners I won't name)

Katie Jackson

A few episodes I think you'd love that didn't win a poll you should check out are, Menage A Troi (Season 3) you haven't met Troi's mom yet and this is a Troi/Riker episode. Also the episode Conundrum(Season 5) is a fun ensemble episode dealing with memory. You'd definitely enjoy both of these and if you decide you want to record them, hey I'll never turn down a Star Trek reaction 😉 😄 If not no worries

Michael G

There is little connection. Descent focuses more on another character that has largely been ignored up to now.

ArsTropica

Movie recommendation: How i learned to stop worrying and love star trek polls. It's a classic.

Michael G

There is no "theme" I, Borg ties into. If the theme is "Borg" every appearance of them after BOBW is a waste, and retroactively drags BOBW down. Also why assume that any other series will be watched. TNG is the only one that has movies, and there is no movie connection.

Michael G

Luxwana is pure fun. Do you hate fun? Cassie would LOV Luxwana

Michael G

I,Borg has little relevance for Descent. As was mentioned, there are multiple previous episodes for another character that is much more important for that 2-parter that went unwatched. You are right she would LOVE disaster.

Michael G

I have never heard of hate for it. It is a great episode, one Cassie would love.

ArsTropica

Todd, I think Cassie would LOVE Babylon 5. It's such a foundational part of pretty much every science-fiction show that has been produced in the last 3 decades. That's also the problem. It's 3 decades old. If the reimagined show ever gets released, maybe there will be enough interest for her to consider watching it.

Michael G

Yes Darmok is a far superior episode. I,Borg is one of the true great mistakes in all of ST with character assassination. There are more important episodes that pertain to Descent, than the very weak connection of I,Borg. There are ~5 episodes that have not been watched that have more bearing on Descent.

ArsTropica

Crom laughs at your Star Trek poll. Laughs from his Mountain!

Michael G

Cassie would get a hoot out of Troi's mom.

Story Archer

Couldn't agree with you more about Babylon 5 - WAY ahead of its time. I've often wondered about remaking it so that the effects wouldn't look so dated, but you couldn't possibly recast Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar), Peter Jurasik (Londo) or Mira Furlan (Delenn) and have the same show... Perhaps animating it with some of the new cutting edge animation (like Arcane) and keeping all the original audio as the voice acting?

Story Archer

Plus, it would matter to her that she's played by Roddenberry's former wife AND that she just happens to be the voice of the Enterprise...

Story Archer

I don't normally do this, but I'm just wearing down - Cassie, for THIS season you gotta do all 8. You really do.

Clay F

rakesh, good point

Clay F

Cassie would have like Captain’s Holiday

Michael Downie

Doesn’t look like Ensign Ro or I, Borg is going to win. She needs to watch those on her own to understand some things in the future. I don’t think reading the synopses of those episodes will communicate the emotions properly.

WastedPo

I'm in a state of disbelief that this is what season 5 has been pared down to. (Also, do people actually like "Unification" this much? Or are they just voting for it out of a sense of obligation because of certain ties to a certain something?)

WastedPo

Heck, I don't even like "Descent." I actually think it's unenjoyable, and it makes me think less of certain characters.

ArsTropica

Borg-lovers, their faces dark, their eyes red!

Chrissonator

Ironically, Cause and Effect did cause issues when it originally aired. lmao

MikeLL

Of course it is a certain tie to a certain something. We all know it is not a top tier episode(s) from the season, but it is "can't-miss" for Cassie because of, you know.

Uncle Phoenix

I am so psych’d that we got 2,203 voters. It’s so cool that there are so many of us Kernels.

PKHill

Cassie in bed, with blanket up, and eyes open.

PKHill

I would recommend skipping the 2-part season cliffhanger, ‘Times Arrow,’ and instead watch ‘Ensign Ro’ and ‘Disaster.’ Both are much better than ‘Time’s Arrow.’

Neil

I'm sure Cassie will love the finale, it has a lot of elements that Cassie loves. There's one particular backstory included that Cassie will appreciate alot. There's bound to be episodes that she misses but she has to keep her channel "Popcorn In Bed" she can't allow it to become "Star Trek in Bed" . She has all her followers, viewers to consider.

Clay F

Edmund, great suggestion.

jdj830

My sure to be unpopular opinion is that she should watch all nine of these episodes, then skip seasons 6 and 7 and the Generations movie, watch First Contact, and then take a break from ST for a while. This way she’ll have more to explore when she comes back, including more TOS episodes and Deep Space Nine. You’re all welcome to instruct me on the folly of my proposal.

Clay F

Agree with the original post and the replies.

Clay F

Cassie would have the empathy flowing when watching I, Borg

PKHill

That’s why I suggested those two episodes as a replacement for ‘Time’s Arrow,’ not an addition to her busy schedule. If not, I still recommend she watches those two privately. Especially Ro which introduces a new character I’m certain she will enjoy.

Anthony Carlson

That’s one of my votes for season 6. For obvious reasons…

Ross Horner

I agree with the proposal, except I think Generations is worth a watch, and a reaction. Some humor in it, as well as the obvious reason. That and First Contact, and that’s it.

WastedPo

I don't know about skipping seasons 6 and 7. But I do agree that the movies themselves are kind of mediocre. That's why I always thought this approach of having her focus mostly on the TV episodes that best set up the movies to be misguided.

WastedPo

I think she'd enjoy Lwaxana. Too bad "Half a Life" is already in the rearview mirror, since I feel that was the strongest episode that featured her. I'm personally pretty disappointed that Cassie will likely never know who Reginald Barklay is.

jdj830

I wouldn’t call myself a naysayer, rakesh; it’s not like I object to her watching TNG. But, like you, I am concerned about diminishing returns. She’s obviously not going to watch every piece of Star Trek content, and I want her to leave this chapter of her cultural explorations wanting more, something she now feels at home with and can come come back to and still “explore new worlds.” Also, I the more I think about Generations the more upset I get about how inadequate it is to the task it set itself. It’s not terrible like ST5, which as Cassie pointed out at least tried to do something different; it’s almost worse by being mediocre. What happens in that film should feel iconic and it’s just kind of meh. First Contact was the last great ST film and she’s already seen enough of TNG to appreciate it. (And yes, there are other worlds I’m eager to see her explore, like the Planet of the Apes movies and more classic and foreign films, but I know this isn’t a zero-sum game and there’s time for everything.)

Jesse Chalmers

Not many people know this, but June is Watch I, Borg As An Extra Bonus Episode month.

Jesse Chalmers

Pretty much every episode can be summed up in one sentence.

jdj830

You’re right about DS9, Chris Clarke and rakesh. I hadn’t thought it through.

TechJJ

Great summary but ST:Picard S3 is a huge gift for TNG fans who love the characters (and the ships) as much as or more than the TNG stories.

TechJJ

No skipping TNG movies!! Movies may not have the same type of story structure, but they are cinematic by design with more actions. Lovers of TNG characters (not stories) will enjoy all 4 movies. Cassie won't skip anyways since her goal has always been watching TNG TV episodes to prepare for the movies.

Clay F

I suggest get it over with -- no break. She can complete TNG S5, S6, S7 and First Contact by September or so. I would be fine with skipping Generations and Nemesis (and even Insurrection), but adding a corresponding number of episodes based on run time distriubted to S5 and S6. She has given no indication of reacting to DS9 (or Voyager). I love DS9 but not conducive to skipping episodes. After TNG, I think she is done with Trek, except for the Chris Pine ST trilogy. She might watch a few TOS episodes? Maybe Picard S3? Probably not?

Clay F

As I have commented before, skip reacting to Nemesis and instead react to the top 7 of the 8 in the poll above. Though, First Duty (which Cassie would like) would still lose out.

Clay F

WastedPo, you read my mind. S4 "Half a Life" is the best Lwaxana episode

Clay F

Too many Luxwana haters. Cassie loses out. She would enjoy a Luxwana episode.

Choux D Bruxelles

I will skip this one ... I don't know what these are and don't like voting for the unknown

FleetAdmiralJ

Season 6 may not be quite as brutal as this but I think there will be 6 obvious ones duking it out there

FleetAdmiralJ

I know Times arrow isn't relevant (but if you take that argument then so are episodes like Disaster or Cause and effect) but I feel it is an episode she would actually find fun and enjoy

FleetAdmiralJ

I think it is more she will lose out on a lot of background in a future episode if she skips it. Although if we can convince her to watch two extra eps in S6 in lieu of Descent (which is definitely skippable) that is acceptable too

FleetAdmiralJ

Relics will win next season for the same reason

Edwin

I think she would prefer I Borg over Darmok. It’s more emotional and has a story more along her style and taste and Darmok is just going to frustrate her.

FleetAdmiralJ

The problem with read a summary is half the impact is you end up connecting to a particular character which pays off later. Just giving a one sentence synopsis doesn't do that

FleetAdmiralJ

While I agree on Data's Day over Brothers, Darmok is so iconic. The one I left out (that is winning) is Cause and Effect, which greatly pained me. It is an awesome episode but I just can't justify it over I, Borg or Darmok.

FleetAdmiralJ

People keep saying there isn't much connection between I, Borg and Descent when I, Borg literally sets it up? Like what happened to [character] is literally why they were a mess when [character] found them. Do people not understand that?

FleetAdmiralJ

I have to laugh a bit cause I just rewatched her reaction to TMP and people were in awe that she pretty succinctly summarized what was going on at then end. I think people underestimate how much she "gets"

FleetAdmiralJ

I mean if you are going for "tie ins" the only ones with even tenuous tie-ins to anything are I, Borg and Unification

FleetAdmiralJ

I have a proposal: if you don't do all 8, at least do the top 5 (as all of them are close) which, because of Unification, is actually 6 episodes. You can even split it into 2 videos of 3 episodes each.

Ceruleo

Do the top 5 and skip the season finale because Unification is finale quality

FleetAdmiralJ

I think Time's Arrow is an episode she would love so I think it is still worth it. If one is going to argue "connections to future eps" one could toss most of these.

Allan Rumberger

@Michael G totally agree about the Borg after BOBW. Literally every appearance they make in the franchise after that point diminishes them (including that one super overrated movie). They had a great premise for a terrifying villain, and they couldn't resist giving them personality, which ultimately destroyed what made them so terrifying to begin with.

Chris Retzlaff

It's right here on my calendar, surprised more people didn't know that

JD

Unification 1&2 are VITAL to the show! They have to be seen! Same with Inner light! These are bedrock TNG episodes!!!! I also do enjoy Disaster but because of the humor and camp moments

TechJJ

Quoting Cassie for her reaction to Redemption Part 1-2: "I wonder how's Miles marriage doing..." She definitely will want to see "Disaster" episode.

D. T. Nelson

I'm sorry!? How is I, Borg not in secord, or at least third place in this poll. It is better than Darmok. It is better than Cause and Effect. Don't get me wrong, Darmok and Cause & Effect are both great episode as well, but I, Borg... I might place it ahead of Unification in both importance and emotional impact. Unification is barely touched on again (with the exception of novels and Star Trek Discovery) until the Kelvin timeline movies. There is really only one (very big) reason to have Cassie watch it. However, the episode I, Borg has a direct tie in with the TNG season six finale and Star Trek: First Contact (as well as novels and other series'). Cassie, I STRONGLY urge you to watch (on your own, if need be) Ensign Ro; Disaster; I, Borg; and The Next Phase—at the bare minimum you need to watch I, Borg (in addition to the four episode that look like they will win this poll—Darmok, Unification, Cause & Effect, and The Inner Light).

D. T. Nelson

Disaster is really good because you see how several members of the crew react when they are pushed out of their comfort zones

John Sullivan

She'll probably watch all the TNG movies, but the last two are just lame

Ike

I’m happy with the final four (4) picks! I am somewhat surprised that “The Perfect Mate” (a Picard episode) didn’t make it to the conference finals. If it becomes one of those episodes that Cassie has the rare time to watch, then I would recommend watching it with those little Valentine candies shaped like tiny hearts instead of popcorn. A cameo with: Just-Enough-Artistic-Nuance-Gorgeously-Renewed-Each-Year ; ).

Kevin Ryan

It's really not. It's a bottle episode that has little impact on future events until the forgettable season finale and then Picard. Love the conundrum it provides but there are better episodes.

Kevin Ryan

After this season it goes downhill fast...

Kevin Ryan

Carly, her soda flat ... :(

Ben Schwartz

i wouldn't say it "goes downhill" -- but season 5 was clearly the high-water mark.

MikeLL

The events of I, Borg are 100% recapped in Descent, including a clipped scene. So there really is no need to watch it, since it didn't meet the vote threshold.

ArsTropica

TBH Cassie leans into the clueless blonde bit way too much sometimes. She's sharp as a tack and very perceptive, and her one-liners are mostly biting wit.

ArsTropica

You nailed it. Darmok is different and iconic, but not necessarily better written or acted. Thing is though... when you're only watching 4 out of 26 episodes, iconic wins the day.

ArsTropica

If Tapestry doesn't get picked, I'm moving to Canada.

Craig Russell

Those of you that voted for Yesterdays Enterprise, because it would affect a show later on had better start voting for Ensign Ro, for the same reason!!

Dylan Melton

A great selection of four spectacular episodes. There could have been more. Cause and Effect was running 4th the whole way and narrowly passed Darmok for 3rd right at the end. There are almost 50 votes separating 4th and 5th, so given the requirement that there only be 4 selected, the Kernels have spoken clearly. But there was an even bigger gap between 5th and 6th. If there is going to be a wildcard selected, this would be a time to do it with I, Borg.

Andrew Buel

You've got some great episodes ahead of you, Cassie! For season 6, have you considered having an extra poll for the 2 two-parters in that season to go head-to-head? If you put "Chain of Command" and "Birthright" in the main 2 polls, they almost certainly would get the votes like Unification did and you would end up watching 8 episodes, 6 of them being some part of a two-parter. But if you had the Patrons vote between "Command" and "Birthright" and the winner advances against the top 4s of the other two polls, you'd finish with 7 episodes like now with Season 5 and an extra individual episode would have a chance to get in. Just a thought. Hope you enjoy Season 5! Engage!

greggreggreg2000

I hope Cassie watches I, Borg because it's directly related to the Season 6 finale. Just reading a recap won't do it justice.

MikeLL

Reading a recap is not necessary. The recap is IN the season 6 finale. Go watch it if you don't believe me. There is no need to watch I, Borg. All the info is recapped in the finale.

Ike

I would just LOVE to completely skip the Season 6 finale. (I’m not even entirely sure why it’s a two-parter)

Art of Free Speech

Simply overjoyed, for once, to see my two favorite episodes (Inner Light and Darmok) get picked. If Inner Light somehow didn't win, I was going to riot (quietly, in my room, careful not to damage anything).

NSG MMA

Season 6 Relics and Tapestry are musts. Dom-jot HUMAN.

Hat

This is the first poll in which I really only like 1 of the episodes. The Inner Light.

ContrabandDonut

Fine. The dilithium chamber needs repair. Transporters are offline and Worf has fat fingers? Better? LOL.

ContrabandDonut

Half a life with Charles Emerson Winchester? His real name escapes me right now. That is a good episode!!! He did the narration for a documentary - again beats me what it was - where I was like "Oh, he has a great voice!!" Now, if you excuse I'll have to go see a doctor about my memory. LOL.

ContrabandDonut

Has Cassie hinted/said if she will continue with Trek post TNG?

Kevin Ryan

I would have rather seen 'Unification' get it's own video like 'Best of Both Worlds' or 'Redemption' in place of the season finale, which is totally forgettable. In place of that I would have offered 'Ensign Ro' and 'The First Duty.'

John Sullivan

I'm also pretty happy with the result

John Sullivan

Watching Brothers was required. It's better than "I, Borg" or the so-so S6 L*** thing

David Freese

The plan still is to watch the 4 TNG movies and Kelvin timeline movies don’t know if there’s a break after season 7 but the series was so she’d know characters so the movies aren’t off the table

Ben Schwartz

i just recently joined her Patreon... How long does Cassie usually take between the polls and uploading the reactions? Weeks? Months?

David Freese

Usually less than a week for full reaction then around 2 weeks for YouTube . This poll for Star Trek ended Thursday night is scheduled to be available anytime now to Tuesday morning and it probably will be on YouTube next week

pickupthepieces

I, Borg is definitely worth watching as a bonus episode. Voting shows it belongs to the top tier episodes of this season. If not for the channel, then at least for yourself.

Andrew R

Inner Light ftw! There are a couple of episodes in S6 I feel nearly as strong about.

WastedPo

I wouldn't have guessed she was "too topical / issue driven" until I read the ridiculous rant about "woke" below.

Andrew Pulrang

Oh good lord. It's funny how some people who say they hate applying political "agendas" to popular culture go on and do exactly that so often, only with a different set of agendas. Which is fine to me since I don't see anything wrong necessarily with viewing popular culture through a political / social lens. It can be interesting, if you don't get too bent out of shape about it. For what it's worth, Ro is decidedly NOT an example of the "girl boss" trope. For Ione thing, she's way too obviously flawed and conflicted -- while "girl boss" characters are arguably too perfect. I believe she's one of the first characters introduced by Ronald D. Moore, who very deliberately wanted to break Roddenberry's rule against having important characters having interpersonal conflicts or major personality flaws. He wanted to make Trek more morally ambiguous and nuanced, which is the opposite of heavy handed politicizing.

ShazD

Yeah Descent is awful

ShazD

Birthright would bore the pants off her

ShazD

We NEED Sub Rosa

David Patterson

There can be only one!... oops, wrong franchise.

Gro Do

It would be nice if in a year or so Cassie watches some of the losing episodes

Fanchman

She already watched at least one - Offspring from season 3.

SuicuneSol

Why is Ensign Ro worth watching? IMO, while Ro is great, she's not important in most future episodes either.

Art of Free Speech

By all means, tell me which ones! I'd love to hear. I'm also wondering if maybe we need to warn Cassie about Darmok. I've noticed she gets a little disheartened when she's confused about an episode or during a movie, but it's intentional in Darmok and we were ALL confused by it--until we weren't (which, to me, was one of the great payoffs of any episode, and to me, had a message which resonated well beyond just a Star Trek episode).

Art of Free Speech

You didn't like Darmok??? It's one of the greatest episodes of the series... there are T-shirts about it, for heaven's sake.

Art of Free Speech

Heck, if Cassie watches DS9, I might even have reason to try to sit through it (I've never been able to make it past season 3--don't care for the Dominion arc), and I think she'd ADORE Voyager (maybe because I adore Voyager).

Art of Free Speech

@Fanchman and I was surprised to see she called it "fun" considering the ending of it. The ending breaks my heart every time.

Michael H. the Lord of the Legacy

And also because "The Perfect Mate" stars a then future X-Men cast-mate (as does "Cause and Effect," for that matter).

Joe Jupiter

I strongly recommend watching "I, Borg" extracurricularly, because it is vital backstory for the season six finale/season seven opener two-parter "Descent." The events of that episode will not make sense without "I, Borg," and to a lesser extent, "Brothers."

PianoDean

She's gotta watch "Brothers" too...this is a special season

Peter Rising

I would have been devastated if Darmok hadn't made it. I was really nervous. I know I'm massively outnumbered but for me it's better than Inner Light.

Craig Russell

IMO, neither was tasha yar. Ro pops up quite a few more times.

Samir Sinha

Missed this poll somehow but I would’ve traded Darmok for Disaster if I had voted. All around the choices were solid.

Samir Sinha

It’s a shame none of the ensemble ship-bound episodes made it. I guess Times Arrow will be fun enough.

Dylan Melton

You’re not the only one. I re-upped my Patreon here just to vote for Darmok.

Seven Coughlin

Agreed. Not to mention the lasting affects even later down the road should she keep watching!

Seven Coughlin

Offspring is one of my personal faves

Raieldon

The tricky part is that unlike the first two very episodic series, both DS9 and Voyager are extremely serialized, especially later seasons of DS9. You miss one episode and you get pretty lost.

JD

DS9 doesn't really allow you to skip forward tho. Its my favorite, but too many key episodes!

Kristin

doubtful. The series after TNG have story arcs that are hard to follow if you don't watch almost all episodes. I don't see Cassie devoted that much of her channel to a single show. I think she would absolutely love DS9, but she can't watch just a few episodes and know that's going on.

Watching a few episodes from season one and two would work. DS9 only gets majorly serialised from season four onwards (with a little in season three). She might appreciate some of the early character driven episodes to get a feel for if she wants to see more herself or not (not even going to spoil which characters, they are all great in any case). Voyager would be fun though. Its much more TNG in feel too, and you really can skip around episode to episode with no concerns (for the most part). Its second to DS9 in terms of character moments too, a lot of the time the best parts of episodes are the scenes where they are just hanging out in the mess hall chatting about their interests. I think its a forgone conclusion we'll get the TNG movies though.

Apparently we can’t. Cassie just put in her update that she is going to watch I-Borg as well
