Hey Beddie Baddies! .....NOPE! Sorry I apologize, never again.

Happy Labor Day! I hope you all are doing a lot of UNLABORING today! I know that's not the case for a lot of people though. I for one, will be watching a movie and working on our secret PiB project but that doesn't really count as laboring because its too fun! August went by so fast, I'm not mad about it though because I LOVE September! All I want to do is burn cider candles and wear plaid and eat apple crisp. Just the most basic over here guys!

I just put up two Runner Up Polls. One more "stacked", and one more of an underdog runner up poll LET THE KIDS PLAY REF! I saw a comment that said "it would only be right to watch the runner ups, not the winners" haha how funny would that be! Make sure to go vote. What is winning now is totally surprising me!

This week is a big one! Two 2007 heavy hitters and a 90's legal drama with two heavy hitters if you know what I mean! Coming up also this month will be finishing up TNG S7 and the first movie, Kick A$$, Deadpool 2, Four Weddings and a Funeral and MORE! Can you believe we will be to October and October movies before we know it!

Speaking of October, we will be having a package opening, ask me anything, kick off Halloween PiB YT LIVE on 10/4/2024. It's going to be a Friday evening this time! Also a tentative date for Trivia will be 9/30 in the PM.

Ok all thanks for everything, you are the actual best and I hope your week is as good as the first day of sweater weather!

Cassie

No Country for Old Men is an AMAZING movie... I can't wait for her reaction to it.

aarswft

Oh they are putting you through it this week.

Michael Lynch

Oh damn, there are some good ones here

Devon Caitlin

Cassie might officially be broken with the darkness of this week 😅

K, Zachary

Yes The Pelican Brief!!

Michael Enos

Beddie. Baddies. 🤣 We'll forgive that one... not sure if we'll let you off that easy tho.

Macabre Movie Maniac

You can watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Doctor Sleep now. Trust me

LDC7080

I have not seen the pelican brief for years. Back when Julia Roberts hair was as big as her smile

nick bell

Some really great films this week.

Shehab Dawoud

No Country For Old Men AND There Will Be Blood in the same week?? That's dark... I couldn't be happier!

Wes

I’m already thinking of all the October movie reactions 😈👹😂

Rosario Cicero

No Country for Old Men AND There Will Be Blood back to back? It’s going to be a taxing week for Cassie

Michael Enos

Also ..No Country For Old Men AND There Will Be Blood... this is a pretty heavy week!

Cole Jennett

I hope people temper their expectations for No Country for Old Men. Some people absolutely love that movie, but I just can’t imagine your reaction to it will be what people are hoping for. I’ve never seen There Will be Blood, but have always meant to. I’m not anticipating a very fun week for you watching movies, so maybe it’s good the movies that are winning the current polls are what they are.

Neill Shaughness

Fun fact, No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood came out the same year and competed against each other at the Oscars. One of the closest races for best picture in recent memory

James UK

This probably isn’t my favourite week, but the rest of September is looking pretty good.

Alex Villarreal

Cassie by the end of the week: “I’m finished!” 🎳

ShazD

The Pelican Brief is over long and tedious imo. Not a fan.

N M

When will you get to the Star Trek movies with Chris Pine? These earlier Star Trek episodes from tv… are people still even interested in them?

Nathan Jasper

October movies?? Is it time for Barbarian and maybe Cobweb soon? One can hope!

Alex Gorell

No country for old men and There will be blood back 2 back?? Ohh man. Gonna be a rough week for Cassie.

Kurt Whitlow

Logan is great, a little more vulgar than previous Wolverines movies but highly entertaining nonetheless. Course you have seen Deadpool.

Walter

well...I'll watch The Pelican Brief, at least.

Cole Jennett

She watched 7 seasons of the show in anticipation of the movies, they’re coming whether you like it or not. I am not expecting the Chris Pine movies before 2025 as October and December are sort of theme months so it could get pushed a bit.

2-Can

This week is why you should enjoy a palette-cleanser of a movie like The Court Jester. It would work post-October too.

Johnny

Cassie will like Pelican Brief for sure.

N M

Well if that’s the case, I’m not interested in any of those tv episodes for the record. It’s taken up too much time in my opinion.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

I'm so looking forward to your reactions to No Country For Old Men (2007) and There Will Be Blood (2007), two of the most brilliant movies of the decade. Also I really hope one day there will be a poll for Daniel Day Lewis movies, he is one of the most brilliant actors of all time. Sean Penn once said of him "He may very well be the greatest actor ever recorded to the screen!"

Scott Macaulay

Logan, No Country, and There Will Be Blood. Better make sure my tissues are stocked up. I never would have admitted that before Cassie

ShazD

Yes. It generates lot of interest.

K Dub

THE PELICAN BRIEF?!!!🥳🎊🎉 THE reaction I've been waiting for!!! Two of Hollywood's heavy's at the peak of of their powers who became "besties" during filming JULIA Robert's was "America's Sweatheart" at the time and Denzel is...well...uh...DENZEL. So EXCITED for this one. THANK YOU!!!👍🏾👏🏾💘

Tim C

I know the Pelicin Brief its a good movie, usually Danzel picks movies well.

Fanchman

I can't remember what place Rounders came in on one of the polls, but hopefully you will be able to watch that one soon.

Shehab Dawoud

You mentioned it, everybody's favorite month is right around the corner. For that reason, I have carefully, meticulously, designed a program for that month. I believe true Horror movie fans will appreciate it. You've already said you're watching Invasion of The Body Snatchers and The Frighteners, that's fine, we can allow some soft ones. But besides that, here's what I've cooked up: Night of The Living Dead (1968), OG Zombie film. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1973), iconic, trailblazing, what can I say? The Omen (1976), the most underrated Horror ever IMO. Friday The 13th (1980), part of the Big 3 with Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street. Fright Night (1985), vampires, but it got that 80's High School vibe, I think you'd like it. The Fly (1986), I mean, if not... some people here will riot, I may be one of them xD. Scream 2 (1997), many think it's better than the original! I Know What You did Last Summer (1997), teenagers, some familiar faces I'm sure. The Blair Witch Project (1999), OG found footage film, Scary Movie (2000), hilarious comedy that spoofs a lot of films, including the previous 3 on the list. American Psycho (2000), a Thriller but could be a good warmup, late September? Christian Bale's best performance! The Visit (2015), my favorite M. Night Shyamalan film. The Lighthouse (2019), this will definitely be an experience! Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, The Green Goblin and Batman as lighthousekeepers, can't be anything but fun! The ones I think Carly could watch with you: Night of The Living Dead, I Know what You Did Last Summer, Blair Witch, and the last 3. I think realistically, half of them could make it. But of course I'm hoping for more.

Blake Evans

Cassie I love all you’re reactions, but this is probably the lineup of the year!

Stick Figure Studios

Wait. You're doing NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN *and* THERE WILL BE BLOOD in the same week? Holy crap. They're both brilliant movies (and actually were released the same year such that they competed with one another for Best Picture at the Oscars; I would have been fine with either one winning) but this is going to be intense.

Chris H

I saw both movies on the same day in theater. Paid for one and snuck into the other. It was such a crazy double feature

Stevan Carter

No Country AND There Will Be Blood? Holy crap. Cassie's gonna be stressed out. 🤣

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

It makes me almost wish one of them was released a year after the other. BOTH OF THEM deserved to win Best Picture and Best Director EACH!

Tay Schumaker

No Country and There Will Be Blood filmed at the same time in the same place, released the same year, and two of the best films of the last 20 years

Stick Figure Studios

I second this. It's going to be a very intense week and THE COURT JESTER is just a delightful movie.

Stick Figure Studios

I know. I was pleased when I heard she was watching both of these films, but I didn't realize they were going to be in the same week.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

I personally think it is a huge shame he is not acting anymore. Dame Judi Dench is still acting and she is nearly 90!

Stick Figure Studios

The patreon community to Cassie: "You can't stop what's coming."

K, Zachary

Cassie, Yes I wrote you long and tedious email today that according to my future wife was long overdue. Last Thursday the 29th was my 45th birthday. I told everyone I didn't expect to live this long. My gf got off early that day and said there is a package from Canada for you. I opened it up there was a card and two tickets on the floor for a Taylor Swift concert on November 15, 2024 in the Rogers Center in Toronto. We both freaked out. If you would have told me a year ago that I would like Star Trek and Taylor Swift I would have laughed at you. Now because of Cassie that is true she made me a huge Taylor Swift fan and a Star Trek fan. Thank You Cassie. https://youtu.be/99lzReqAYWI?si=6DOIfMqb_nlQ_psx

Stick Figure Studios

This was a rare year where I literally couldn't pick whether I wanted THERE WILL BE BLOOD or NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN to win best picture. I decided I was fine as long as it was one of those two.

David Freese

Logan was an interesting reaction from both ladies. I actually feel proud that even though it was bloody and at times a hard watch you watched it understood it and liked it . Still don't think Cassie would have liked it as much 2 years ago and Carly seems to be surviving the bloody movies better as well but not sure if she needs many because she's such a good soul. You are too Cassie but you've been doing reactions longer and more of them. Looking forward to all the September movies you mentioned but can't wait for Deadpool 2 and the beginning of TNG movies.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

I think it is a huge shame that he is not acting anymore. Dame Judi Dench is still acting and she is nearly 90!

Happy Hanukkah

"a 90's legal drama with two heavy hitters if you know what I mean!" I watched Erin Brockovich; I know *exactly* what you mean! ... ... :-P :-P :-P

Dan M

“Beddie Baddies” 😂 How about “Pillow Poppers”? Happy Labor Day, Cassie! Kinda bummed that summer is unofficially over, but I refuse to let it go until it gets too chilly to take a dip in the pool. I love September and Autumn as well, but I dread what follows. Once Xmas and New Years passes, I wish I could go into hibernation until May. If only. Looking forward to the Runners Up polls, and I am totally into the runners up being watched, since my picks don’t look like they’ll win. Its all good though, as I’m sure I’ll enjoy whatever reactions are posted. Really looking forward to the first Star Trek TNG movie, Kick Booty, and Four Weddings 👍 “October movies before we know it”. Typing that probably sent a chill up your spine. I sent you my very first package in August, so I’m really excited for the live on 10/4. I’ll be there for the Trivia contest…I like to think I have a pretty good knowledge of movie trivia, but I’ve been severely humbled in the past, so..,🤞 Hope you have a great week! And hope the kids are settling in at school. Ciao!

Above Average Dave

Thank, Cassie! Hope you and the family are getting past the illnesses and gearing up for early fall comfort food deliciousness (start cinnamon and apple smells). These are all acclaimed films. Love to hear sometime what you think your two or three biggest changes in thinking about movies since you started the channel and if those changes in perspective have affected your perceptions of other things, events in your life. Happy! Happy! God Bless!

Matt Rose

oh wow are you going to love FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL. That is right up your alley.

Stick Figure Studios

I keep holding out for the possibility that he's going to return for at least one more performance. As long as he's alive, there's still hope.

Neill Shaughness

I think that's how most of us felt. I was in film school at the time, so we watched the Oscars like the Superbowl, with betting pools and everything. Usually one movie has much better odds attached to it, but we valued both these movies as even odds. It ended up being a Very fun night of gambling

Dan M

PIB is the “sheet”

Clay F

Looking forward to No Country for Old Men. Also There Will Be Blood and TNG.

Godzilla Jones

That's quite the double feature of intensity. I look forward to it.

David Freese

You don't have to watch there are 2 other spots a week for other things. I Also keep asking this Arent we here for Cassies reactions. Maybe try just watching the reaction without the show or movie. That actually helped me enjoy some movies I thought I'd hate. Just a suggestion

Dan M

The tv series is just about over. Now it TNG movies, including the crossover movie.

WestBound

Amazing week . I still think TWBB should have won the Oscar over No County .

Dan M

That’s exactly why I was hoping for a change of tone with the Runners Up polls. So many dark, sad, tragic, violent and heartbreaking movies lately. I think its time to turn the frowns upside down. At least until October 😉

LukeG84

The Pelican Brief is a really good move. Just rewatched it a few months ago. I think Cassie will like that one. Not sure what Carly with think, but I’m excited to find out. 🍿 Never heard of the other two so that usually means they’re not for me.

Dan M

Its time for Cassie to go towards the light

Brec Evans-Orrell

Major Payne’s voice came to mind at the beginning of this.

David Collins

Whoa!!! Amazing lineup this week. This is like Christmas in July. Except in September. Been looking forward to "The Pelican Brief" for sooooo long. (And "Conspiracy Theory" too, which is just as good, but we'll keep working on that one) Then we get "No Country For Old Men" - this is such an amazing movie, but quite tricky too. It's going to be very interesting. This is sort of a "skill check" movie along the path of Cassie's growth as a movie connoisseur. Then we get Daniel Day-Lewis - one of the all time greatest chameleons in Hollywood. Every performance of his is a masterpiece.

Tater

Great lineup.

Troy Silvester

I don't think you'll like No Country for Old Men, or There will be blood. Neither seem your speed! But the Pelican Brief, I know you'll enjoy. On my favorites list all time! John Grisham, riveting!

Clay F

They seemed sad much of the Logan movie. Their sadness started in the beginning with the conditions of Logan/Charles and the bleak environment, and never really let up. Yet, a great reaction -- so much emotion on their faces.

Clay F

A big +1 for Daniel Day Lewis.

Clay F

I didn't fully appreciate No Country until my second watch. Stunning movie.

Cole Jennett

I watched it three times to see if I could find what everyone thinks is so great about it. It was good, but that’s the highest praise I can give.

Clay F

Some of Cassie's best reactions are to dark, even if she is miserable. Yet, I also like reactions where she is happy and smiling.

N M

😂 thanks for the tip, but I’m not that interested in her reactions. I just thought it strange how a tv series somehow was able to hijack so much of a content provider’s time.

Chris Thom

Woah gritty is right. You said it. Those Patreon uploads especially with the gold color scheme look really nice next to each other. Pelican Brief will be a fairly tense thriller that Carly might actually enjoy. Lots of intrigue. Very curious how you'll react to the other ones. Fun couple of weeks!

Henry Graham

Oh my gosh, Cassie! I cannot wait to experience the breathtaking precision and knife-edge tension of No Country for Old Men with you, followed by the monumental scope and volcanic energy of There Will be Blood. Two of the great American films right there.

Chris Thom

I don't get why they never did another movie together. Wonder if they didn't get along or something. Because their chemistry was great on film.

Chris Thom

Logan is already posted if you haven't seen it yet.

Chris Thom

I don't think he's done yet. He's going to pull a Jay Z.

Steve Mercier

This week looks...spectacular (for us)...

Richard Maurer

I really like No Country for Old Men. There Will Be Blood - not so much. It's not a bad film by any means, but not really my thing.

Clarence Newman

I'm thinking about Cassie watching "No Country" and "There Will Be Blood" one after the other, and I can't help but think of that scene in Ace Ventura 2 when Jim Carrey's got two spears in his legs.

Richard Maurer

i could do without the Chris Pine movies, at least for now.

Neill Shaughness

I'm a big fan of both, but I agree that No Country is the better of the two

Chris Thom

Dang haven't thought of that movie in soooo long. He was like the first famous Wayan Brother wasn't he?

Chris Thom

'Bed Fellows' might be a little too kinky.

Richard Maurer

Night of The Living Dead 68, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 73, Fright Night 85, and The Fly 86, I can get behind, the rest not so much.

Dan M

I can appreciate it for what it is. But otherwise, it has no redeeming qualities for me.

Chris Thom

Timing does seem a little off. lol

Richard Maurer

No Country For Old Men should be interesting.

Jacob King

Every time I saw you post about Invincible my brain registered it as Invictus. If you want another good football movie, Invictus with Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon should definitely be on your list. Pelican Brief and No Country are two of my favourite thrillers.

Mike Lemon

Really? Julia Roberts? She never did anything for me. I don't even like her much as an actor. But to each their own I guess.

Dan M

🤣 That is perfect!

Dan M

Blanket buddies?

Mike Lemon

Isn't Night of the Living Dead in the public domain? So she could do a full watch along on YouTube???

Mike Gallagher

With those two heavy movies "There Will Be a Blanket Covered Face".

ArsTropica

watch some cartoons or rom-coms between those 2 last movies...

PianoDean

Thinking ahead to October...anyone besides me think Cassie would like "Let Me In"? Some will say the Swiss version is better, but I love the American version with Chloe Moretz...my favorite movie of that type.

Chris Thom

Wow is that a true story?

Joe J

Cassie also promised "The Haunting of Hill House" series (10 episodes). Rumor has it she may also do the "The Fly" (1986). I wouldn't mind "The Omen" and "Fright Night", the rest of them not so much.

Happy Hanukkah

I'm one of those curmudgeons who highly dislikes the ending of Notting Hill (i.e. that famous scene). Yes, I get it, but I have to completely turn off my brain to be able to minimally enjoy it.

K Dub

Agreed!!! but I know that they got along very well. So much so that in an interview she admitted to calling him directly after seeing Training Day in theatre and walking out afterwards excited claiming that this should be his Oscar award to win, which it eventually did.

Mike Lemon

Some suggestions for October- Saw (2004) - of course Mr. Brooks (2007) - fairly Carly safe and stars Kevin Costner Strangeland (1998) - a bit odd, but it somehow works Abraham Lincoln - Vampire Hunter (2012) - it's history! Quarantine (2008) Some that work for October but are better year-round- Ghost Town (2008) - 100% Carly safe, not scary at all love story but has ghosts The Perfect Host (2010) - stars Niles from Frasier Pacific Heights (1990) Copycat (1995)

Gray

Been meaning to watch There Will Be Blood so this gives me the excuse to do so, also the trivia night dosen't fall on a worknight for me, excellent.

Joe J

I never really compare actors, but I do have favorites like Hackman and Caine. Many lesser known actors put in some amazing performances, for example Hamish Linklater in "Midnight Mass".

MikeLL

Heavy Drama this week. Heavy, heavy, heavy.

Richard Maurer

The "Swiss" (original) version is better. There I said it.

PianoDean

I knew it was coming...LOL

MikeLL

How did Kick A$$ get on the schedule? Runner up, I guess! And Four Weddings wow, that will be a good one!

Richard Maurer

And the original versions title, Let the Right One In, is better too. :-)

Chris Thom

Oh I was going to suggest Copycat too! Just watched it last night. Really enjoyed it.

Richard Maurer

Saw - yes. REC - the original Spanish version of Quarantine is better.

Chris Thom

Oh that's awesome. That made me tear up not gonna lie. Sorry you've been sick. But that gift is incredible.

Uncle Phoenix

Woohoo. Deadpool 2 is $9.99 on iTunes; and The Pelican Brief is only $4.99 on iTunes too.

Joe J

Whether Cassie likes a movie or not is unimportant to me, hopefully the reaction will be entertaining.

Chris Thom

Scream 2, Fright Night, and Blair Witch for me.

Richard Maurer

Haven't seen that yet, read some stuff that said it was bad, not that that will stop me from watching it.

Nathan Jasper

Yeah but I'm a completionist. I'm not going to start a Trilogy and not finish it because a couple whiny net trolls said it was bad 😂 if it goes down I'll go down with it.

Richard Maurer

Of that entire list, Scream 2 is the last one I'd pick. But don't mind me, I just hate Scream and it's money-grab sequels.

Joe M

Finally FINALLY, There Will Be Blood. I absolutely can’t wait for that reaction

ArsTropica

Kevin Spacey and Daniel Day-Lewis: one went from selling shoes to winning oscars, the other did the reverse.

David Collins

I think "Sweeny Todd" would make a great scary-but-not-too-scary October movie.

ArsTropica

Thir13en Ghosts (2001) is my pick, but I think Cassie doesn't do those types of movies.

Mark White

Wow Cassie, lots to look forward too! Thank you. “There will be blood” is my kinda movie. One for the movie critic in me. It’s just not one I would pick for you! So I’m curious as to how you will find it? For me, It doesn’t tick any of your boxes. But, I do think you might admire Daniel Day Lewis’s performance in this. It’s Truly epic! And the score! Sometimes I think it is over looked, but it really sets the tone for the movie. So glad you are watching “the Pelican Brief” i really think you will enjoy this one. A really well written thriller. More trek as well to come. Thanks Cassie, your the best! 😊

Joe J

One of the moderators said Carly was done with scary October, so don't expect to see her for those reactions.

K, Zachary

One of my Doctors got to go to England and saw Taylor Swift at Wembley Stadium in London he knew I was super jealous of her so he got me those tickets. That's my thinking anyway. Taylor Swift is one of those once in lifetime artists. Like Madonna and Michael Jackson combined of the 80's. Taylor is a beautiful human being https://youtube.com/shorts/KtPpZ6bU234?si=NJRZUhzhUuzOZxHz

Björn Karlsson

"Swiss version" 😬😬😬🤣🤣🤣

PianoDean

I read the novel and it was fantastic indeed!

Roy Batty

Blade (1998) Pitch Black (2000) Manhunter (1986) They Live (1988) The Mothman Prophecies (2002) Evil Dead 2 (1987) / Army of Darkness (1992) My absolute top picks for movies that fit the definition of "Scary, but not to Scary".

Just Plain Bob

Cannibal Holocaust predates Blair Witch Project as a found footage film by two decades.

Stick Figure Studios

BTW a good, solid suspense-thriller for this "scary but not too scary" October that I think you would actually enjoy (in spite of it definitely scaring you in a few places) is WAIT UNTIL DARK with Audrey Hepburn.

Just Plain Bob

NOTLD is in the public domain. They screwed up the copyright when it was released, so it’s actually been in the public domain since the day it was first released.

clutchkman

Looking forward to these, football season and crisp fall air.

Mike Lemon

@Bob - Yeah, they didn't put the roman numeral date on it, right? I couldn't remember if it was Night, Dawn, or Day.

Philip Alan

haha! I love my Poltergeist references.

ArsTropica

Dead Again, with Emma Thompson and her then husband, Ken Branagh. Scary, but not too scary with a romantic sub-plot.

Philip Alan

Line up of the week, at least. :) haha

Philip Alan

My first time watching all three of these movies. I know they're good. I was busy watching other movies and these somehow fell through the cracks. :)

John Rando

Nice touch putting There Will Be Blood same week as No Country For Old Men. Now Cassie can experience these two films like many of us did that year. That was a year to remember!

Just Plain Bob

It was originally titled “Night of the Flesh Eaters.” They changed the title at the last minute. When they did so, they failed to put the copyright emblem on the title card. At stupid as it sounds, that simple mistake negated the copyright. The reason Romero produced the 1990 remake directed by his frequent collaborator Tom Savini was in the hope of finally making some money off the movie. I normally don’t like remakes but find the Savini remake to be quite good.

Just Plain Bob

When I first saw the words WAIT UNTIL DARK, I read them as “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.”😂 Both are excellent but, obviously, VERY different films. If Cassie were to ever watch “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”, I’d hope she’d watch the original 1973 made-for-tv film, of course.

Mojo One Thousand

Maybe we should just go all-in on bleak 2007 movies an replace the "The Pelican Brief" with "In the valley of Elah" with Charlize Theron and Tommy Lee Jones, the latter getting an Oscar nomination for best lead actor. It feels similar to NCFO and TWBB, but all 3 are in different time periods. It feel similar because of Roger Deakins who was the cinematographer for it and NCFO. I'm obviously kidding, but there certainly was a style for a bunch of 2007 movies. But there was a lot of solid movies from that year as well. "Wolf creek" (2005) is and will probably remain my October suggestion.

Kevin Schultz

Did NOT expect to see Kick-Butt on the list! Lots of wincing and "ew"ing comin up!

mikethemotormouth

After she's already seen Scream, I couldn't be less interested in a Friday the 13th reaction

mikethemotormouth

I prefer Comforter Companions/Comrades or Bunk Buddies. But Bed-Heads ain't bad either lol

Joel Wayne

Pretty sure Carly said that a while back in another reaction

David Collins

When "The Pelican Brief" is the "cheesiest" movie of the week, you know it's a great movie week!

Stick Figure Studios

I don't know about you, but I didn't see those two films in the same week. If I had, I might have wanted to blow my brains out.

MikeLL

Yes, I had to go back and look it up. Runner up to her brother’s poll. Well it’s every runner up from now on, right?? :)

Richard Maurer

Hope we get some real horror films this year. I already see a lot of vaguely horror-like but not really horror films being recommended. Hopefully Cassie will ignore all that.

D

I think I've said this before but I don't think you'll like No Country for Old Men or There Will Be Blood, but they are both movies that everyone should see at least once. Good luck!

Chris Thom

The Road was peak bleak.

Chris Thom

I think I saw these with The Road fairly close together. And yeah it f'd me up. Bad.

Richard Maurer

@Bjorn - what, you didn't know that LtROI was made in Switzerland? ;-)

Richard Maurer

Then we'll just have to have a 3rd place poll.

Sam R.

🤣🤣🤣 beddie baddies 🤣🤣🤣 youre so funny , you knew as soon as it left your tongue . looking forward to all these .

Just Plain Bob

It’s a great made-for-tv movie from 1973. One of those movies that relies heavily on atmospherics and gradually building dread. Guillermo del Toro produced a remake a few years ago. It’s ok, but not as good as the original.

Mojo One Thousand

"The Road" certainly is the record holder for bleak, but it was a couple of years later. Strangely, there is a moment in that movie where my friend and I laughed out loud in the cinema... we were the only ones. It was a great, subtle visual moment with Viggo Mortenson.

Stick Figure Studios

Agreed. Love them or hate him, they are essential viewing for anyone who takes cinema at all seriously.

Stephen Dias

Ok. I often confuse "No Country For Old Men" (which I've seen) with "There Will Be Blood" (which I have not). Also, I can't believe I still haven't seen "Logan" yet (though I did see "Deadpool & Wolverine." Maybe this is a reason to get caught up.

D. T. Nelson

No Star Trek this week? Oh well, Cassie. I thought you might have planned a special watch along for Star Trek Day on September 8th.

Chris Thom

Season 7 is next video up to bat.

Chris Thom

Any quintessential Fall movies in mind? I always think of Scent of a Woman and Stepmom for some reason.

Robin T

Lol, I wish I'd seen There Will Be Blood right after No Country, the end of that one had me absolutely cackling. I'm convinced Anderson intended it as a comedy. The blackest of comedies to be sure, but hilarious all the same.

Brent Petty

Halloween/October suggestions: Frailty (Directed by Bill Paxton. Starring Paxton and Matthew McConaughey) Fallen (Denzel, John Goodman, Donald Sutherland) Train to Busan (A fantastic Korean zombie film with surprisingly little gore, but a lot of heart - bring tissues) Scream 2 (Because it wouldn't be Halloween without suggesting a sequel, right?) And finally, one I don't consider a horror film - but a great thriller: Panic Room (director of The Game and Zodiac, starring Jodie Foster, Forrest Whitaker, Jared Leto and Kristen Stewart). And Cassie, if Carly is willing, she could definitely handle Train to Busan (seriously not very bloody at all for a movie about fast zombies) and Panic Room (she liked Zodiac and The Game).

Andrew Rose

So happy to see you're finally getting to Pelican Brief.. loved that movie and will be a great watch for you and Carly I think. The other two are well respected movies but definitely not my personal cup of tea. Will keep my fingers crossed for you on those two.

Shehab Dawoud

@Richard What would your program for October look like?

Shehab Dawoud

@mikethemotormouth I don’t think Friday The 13th is a great movie but like I said, it’s one of the Big 3 so it’s a must. I don’t think she’ll remember the spoiler from Scream.

Milsr09

Another great 2007 movie is "Hot Fuzz"

Shehab Dawoud

Pacific Heights👊 Michael Keaton masterclass. But I’d say one thriller is enough for October.

Clarence Newman

Which is why posts like this are a perfect opportunity to mention The Fly (1986). How scary can it be, Cassie? Flies are so tiny.

Björn Karlsson

Tbh... I had now idea. Well well you learn new things every day 😁😁

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Stephen King wrote "Let Me In is a genre-busting triumph. Not just a horror film, but the best American horror film in the last 20 years." The author himself, John Ajvide Lindqvist, praised it as a decent adaptation of his novel.

Brent Petty

It's winning in one of the polls RN.

Brent Petty

Pelican Brief already up. Back end of this week is gonna be lit!

Richard Maurer

Train to Busan is a great suggestion. Scream 2 is a......... suggestion. One Scream movie is more than enough.

Butt Head

Here's 3 family-friendly spooky-themed movies for October, which are about horror films without being scary themselves Ed Wood (1994) - 7.8 on IMDB Matinee (1993) - 6.9 on IMDB Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) - 6.6 on IMDB

Richard Maurer

Never said it was bad. Just that the Swedish version is better.

Above Average Dave

HANNAH AND HER SISTERS, which would be a great Cassie and Carly film, takes place over several Thanksgivings. Also, GOOD WILL HUNTING, though I'm sure Cassie's seen it.

ArsTropica

I am slightly obsessed with the story of Spacey's fall from grace and now his attempt to come back. He's still popular in European cinema and has now started acting in (relatively) minor American films.

Richard Maurer

@Captain's Log - She watched It: Chapter 1 last year and it was her own decision. Clearly horror films are on the table.

Matt Rose

ED WOOD is Burton's best film, in my humble opinion. Love it.

Richard Maurer

Since people here have begun the annual "Suggest non-horror films for Oct. to keep real horror from being watched" suggestions (and because Shehab Dawoud asked) I decided to put out a list of real horror films for October. Night of The Living Dead (68), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (73) Fright Night (85) It: Chapter 2 Saw Train to Busan It Follows Let the Right One In Dog Soldiers Ginger Snaps Cube X Pearl Troll Hunter Can't think of anymore right now, but I might add to it later. And The Fly is not on there because Cassie was implying it will be watched on a post I made on Runner-up poll 2

John Rando

I remember watching them within a week of each other and taking a break from movies for a short while afterward. I thought nothing else could come close. Good times

Richard Maurer

@Shehab Dawoud - I was already planning to do a list so I went ahead and posted that below. As for the first Friday the 13th movie, I don't support that film as it includes actual animal abuse. That scene where they kill that black rat snake with a machete is unfortunately 100% real. And to make matters worse it was some guys pet. He was nice enough to allow them to use it in the film, and he came back to pick it up only to find that they decided to kill it "for the film". Apparently the snakes' owner had to be restrained when he went after the director, which is what would have happened to me too had it been one of my snakes.

Richard Maurer

@Captain's Log - she's been doing R-rated horror films since she started doing horror films.

Clarence Newman

It's also not true horror (monsters and stuff) that traumatizes her, it's scary topics that hit too close to home. The Shining is true horror, but it also contains several things that really unnerve Cassie - scary children, mutilated children (anything that hurts or degrades a child basically), MAJOR grossout material in Room 237, and Jack Nicholson's face. Poltergeist is also true horror, but in that one, the baby gets taken by a demon. Cassie's trauma comes from identifying too closely with the mother, it doesn't matter who or what took the baby. True horror for Cassie would be "Prisoners" (children get kidnapped by a killer), "28 Days Later" (supposedly a movie about zombies but really a study of the evil of man - they threaten to rape a 13 year old girl in that one) and "Ransom", which is probably her worst nightmare. This is why I am happy to vote for true horror films like The Fly (very scary, but Cassie will be able to sleep because it can't happen), but worry a little when she watches stuff like "No Country For Old Men".

Shehab Dawoud

My argument against him as the GOAT would be the fact that he hasn’t done that many films and he’s been very selective about which roles he plays. If you’re not willing to take big chances and step out of comfort zones, you can’t be my GOAT. He is great, though.

Butt Head

Cassie doesn't actually like horror, she only watches them due to popular demand. I feel a bit sorry for her because she seems to find it genuinely traumatic. There's nothing stopping you watching horror moves, but it's not natural or healthy for Cassie to start a reaction saying she's been feeling anxiety & stress rising all day in preparation for watching a scary film - they're supposed to be fun. And if they're not fun she should avoid them imo 🤷

Shehab Dawoud

Well, that’s definitely a reason! I wasn’t aware of that. But to completely honest, snakes are high on the list of animals I’d wipe off the face of the earth if I could🤷🏻‍♂️

Arthur, King of the Britons

And she's clearly quite uncomfortable doing them. There's plenty of other reactors doing horror year-round if that's your thing

Shehab Dawoud

X!! That is ambitious trying to get that on here. Realistically, if she ran that through her people, they’d steer her away from it. Same with Boogie Nights, it would just be.. awkward and inappropriate given her nature. I loved it, though. Decent list although I haven’t seen Dog Soldiers, Ginger Snaps, or Cube.

Richard Maurer

@ Butt Head (lol) - Cassie decided to watch horror films in October and if she wants to stop I would support that decision. But the fact is she watched It: Chapter 1 last year of her own volition - no one voted on it, no one knew it was happening, she could have not done it and no one would have known, but she did it anyway. So I will continue to suggest REAL horror films that are on the level of It: Chapter 1 until SHE says she won't watch them. And I will continue to ignore the opinions of the horror haters here.

Richard Maurer

That's Cassie decision, not yours. I will vote for the best horror films on any future polls, as I have always done.

Richard Maurer

@Shehab Dawoud - Realistically, is the sex in X any more graphic than in Deadpool? Personally, I don't think so.

Shehab Dawoud

I’ve never seen Deadpool and I never will, so you tell me xD

Richard Maurer

My answer would obviously be no. And Mia Goth's performance's in both X and especially Pearl are too good to be missed.

Richard Maurer

You must want to mess up the ecosystem really bad then. And you're talking to someone who has 29 snakes as pets, and no one's wiping them off the face off the earth.

Richard Maurer

Most of the people who try to stop Cassie from watching horror films here just don't like horror and are doing it out of their own self-interest - imo.

Shehab Dawoud

😂😂 damn, I might’ve just made an enemy for life😭 All power to you. I got nothing against snakes personally, they just creep me out. And yes, I know they’re docile creatures that don’t attack humans, but it changes little for me. But just out of curiosity, exactly what do you do with 29 snakes?

Arthur, King of the Britons

I didn't say it was my decision, I just gave an opinion. This is the comment section, no?

Carter Paul

I just watched the original Texas Chainsaw for the first time the other day and I liked the 2003 remake a LOT more, I thought the 70s version was more strange than anything with too many drawn out shots for such a short film. Are you recommending it for Cassie because it's less scary or is there a reason you prefer it? I also totally agree that Saw and Pearl would be excellent Cassie reactions, great movies that aren't just shock value. I feel like the Pet Sematary remake or original would be a fun one to see this October as well.

Butt Head

I'm not a horror-hater, I like horror films. And Cassie not liking horror doesn't stop me from watching them or watching other reactors who react to nothing but horror. She's clearly stressed & anxious enough and if a person doesn't actually enjoy, anticipate, and become excited by horror then I wouldn't push for them to watch films which just add to their discomfort

Richard Maurer

It still comes down to it being Cassies' decision, and seeing as how SHE decided to watch It: Chapter 1 last year (which you keep ignoring) I'd say that decision has already been made.

Richard Maurer

@Carter Paul - I recommend the original because it has that raw low-budget indie feel that no slick Hollywood copy can ever duplicate.

Arthur, King of the Britons

You claimed me giving an opinion in the comment section was somehow overstepping my place. As if having a opinion somehow prevented Cassie choosing what films to watch or you from voting for what you wanted. I pointed out what an excessive reaction that was to typed thoughts

Butt Head

I don't know why you keep mentioning IT as I've never mentioned it once

Brent Petty

The first two are good. She can skip the rest.

Björn Karlsson

Let the right one in has been in polls at Halloween, both 2022 and I think last year as well. But non-english movies can't win against english speaking movies. It's impossible and I have seen it several times. 😪😪😪 Hmmm have Cassie done a werewolf movie?? 🤔🤔 (I'm kinda tired atm 😴😴) If not, Dog soldiers is a perfect movie 🤩🤩🤩 I like the plot and the tempo of it 🤩

Richard Maurer

I did no such thing. I just pointed out that Cassie has already made the decision to watch horror films, years ago. You are trying to steer that decision into something you want, which is fine, but I will continue to give my opinion on that too. We go through this every year here and neither side (I'm not alone in my opinion) is going to stop, so the battle continues.

Richard Maurer

@ butthead - No I mentioned IT because it ruins your argument that Cassie doesn't want to do horror. As I've mentioned several times she made the decision to watch IT, why would she make that decision if she truly wanted to avoid horror movies? Try to come up with a good answer for that, please.

Richard Maurer

@Björn Karlsson Still got to keep trying, Maybe we'll get a foreign horror poll some day.

Arthur, King of the Britons

Any time someone recommends a movie they like they are 'steering decisions'. I am actually making a compassionate case that for my part I've got no problem if Cassie does not watch scary movies for the reason that she fairly obviously doesn't enjoy them; If she did then she would watch them year round. PG-13 horror is more her thing and that's OK, there are plenty of family-friendly seasonal movies that can be enjoyed in October too

Jeff I.

Really looking forward to No Country and There Will Be Blood! Kind of a shame Cassie will never see some really well-done modern horror like Hereditary or The Witch. Stuff with really good acting and writing, and not just a bunch of cheap jump scares or gore for the sake of it. I mean, everyone knows Toni Collette was robbed of an Oscar nomination for Hereditary, if not the award itself.

D.M. Lipkin

She requests "scary, but not too scary," and the audience is like "Got it. Infamously scary movies." I think Cassie would do best watching classic horror movies. Movies that don't rely on graphic visuals and cheap jump scares, but proper suspense building and score. Night of the Living Dead (1968) and the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers would be at the top of my list.

Richard Maurer

@ Captain's Log - Cassie watched It: Chapter 1. It was her decision, no poll, no long campaign of asking for it. nothing. This completely negates your argument. She watches horror now. Scary R-rated horror. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Mike Lemon

So I take it X isn't the 1996 anime? (jk) Small rant- Movie makers, use a real title. A single letter or number makes the movie a real pain in the keister to find after a decade or so.

Richard Maurer

@D.M. Lipkin - you mean like It: Chapter 1? Yeah, that was her idea.

Richard Maurer

Look at them. Feed them, a lot. Introduce them to my niece's grandkids so they they don't have a senseless fear of them. And no, we're not enemies, I know lots of people who hate snakes for no good reason.

Joe J

Train to Busan would be a great reaction. Since she enjoyed "The Last of Us", I don't see zombie type movies being an issue for her.

Anthony Perez

"end of week is gonna be lit"... yeppers, pretty much made my week to rewatch "NO COUNTRY and THERE WILL BE BLOOD ". I pretty much squealed like a girl. A blond girl

Björn Karlsson

She saw the The Thing as well. Her decision, no poll etc 🙂

K, Zachary

TCM (73) is worse then the devil movies there is reason why my friends and I call it the Grand Daddy of all horror movies. For a female take any devil movie and it is 10x worse. Imagine watching a murder in slow motion. That's about the equivalent of TCM(73) DON'T WATCH IT! Kick A$$ Dear G 🤦D. Really? I must object in the strongest possible terms. Eva and I have started creating videos clips mixed together to completely make fun of this movie. Hail to the clips some dude on Instagram called them memes. Yeah he got blocked in three seconds flat. https://youtu.be/6UrPRVN7MSk?si=9YJuEMAGO1Da8ei_

Björn Karlsson

Ops, I missed Trollhunter on your list. Great lost and found movie from Norway 🤩🤩

Mike Lemon

@Richard - How is Rec different from Quarantine? Just reading the Wikipedia page, it sounds exactly the same.

Richard Maurer

@Mke - I will alway prefer the foreign made or American made independent original films to the Hollywood remakes. Even when they stick close to the original story it always feels off to me - too polished is the best way to describe it.

Richard Maurer

You didn't miss it, i originally forgot to put it on, so I added it later.

Butt Head

Ed Wood is Tim Burton's masterpiece

Richard Maurer

Since some people didn't like my list of horror films for October here's a few more for them to not like: Last Voyage of the Demeter Smile Brightburn The Ritual Doctor Sleep (director's cut)

Richard Maurer

.......Or, we could just watch Horror of Dracula and call it a day.

Brent Petty

She's reacted to some already: Last of the Mohicans, Lincoln, Gangs of New York, and now There Will Be Blood. And she said in one of her reactions that she's seen Phantom Thread as well.

Brent Petty

How about George C Scott in The Changeling?

Matt

No Country and There Will Be Blood? Its gonna be like 2007 all over again 😊 I can't wait

Clarence Newman

Panic Room, definitely. Would be good anyway, but Forrest Whitaker elevates it.

Clay F

IMDb parents guide has True Detective S1, BS Dracula, and Deadpool all three as SEVERE for "Sex & Nudity." She reacted to all 3. She seemed to like True Detective S1 and Deadpool.

Clay F

These 3 for spooky October for Cassie are not rated G but are PG: Corpse Bride Frankenweenie Monsters, Inc.

Clay F

Butt Head, Cassie has apparently decided to expand her horizon by watching scary movies and accepting the stress and discomfort she experiences, and dealing with the nightmares and PTSD.

Chris Thom

She pretty much committed to watching IT 2 on the last LIVE where she watched the Marky Mark football movie. But she said she was 80% sure or something like that.

Richard Maurer

@ Clay F - those 3 films are exactly the opposite of what I'm talking about here. It would be like if I went on Butt Head's post and started listing horror movies. PTSD? Really? That' something you get from real trauma, like being in a war, not from watching a horror movie. Let's watch it with the hyperbole, okay?

Richard Maurer

I double checked my list before writing this, just to be sure. There 's no movie I've put forward here that genuinely violates any of Cassies' rules for what she's willing to watch. None of them are worse than It: Chapter 1, content or fright wise, so I really don't get the problem some people have. Several people have been listing various non horror movies, even childrens movies for Cassie, but I never said anything about how they shouldn't put them out there. Cassie is going to watch some real horror movies for Halloween, and I was just giving her some good choices.

Richard Maurer

Assuming everyone's comments section suddenly changed like mine did, this new comments already has a glitch (big surprise, right?) I noticed some of the comments under my horror film list comment below are missing. So I counted and there are 21 comments even though the comment counter shows 26. This is bad as some comments are replying to other comments that are no longer there. EDIT - just noticed at the bottom of the comments there's a tab to load comments but when I press it nothing happens, I can't collapse comments either.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

There is still some great DDL movies Cassie hasn't seen yet; My Left Foot (1989), In the Name of the Father (1993), The Boxer (1997) or the two movies that made him famous, A Room With A View (1985) and My Beautiful Launderette (1985). Both of those films were released in American cinemas on the very same day and critics first got to see the brilliant, diverse acting of Daniel Day Lewis!

Mike Lemon

Not to mention the comments are fugly and still don't have a reply hierarchy. I won't even go into the ascending vs descending without an option to switch nonsense.

Richard Maurer

This is sadly typical of patreon - make changes and worry about it later, if at all.

Clarence Newman

I don't even see a reply count, Richard. There's a count on the likes, but nothing against reply.

Mike Lemon

@Clarence - Wait for it. I couldn't see reply counts last night, but I see it today. Maybe your "update" is lagging behind???

Chris Thom

House of the Devil with Greta Gerwig was pretty effective. Slow burn, tense. Ultimately kind of pointless...but I remember really enjoying that.

Chris Thom

True. I don't remember loving them THAT much...but it was pretty obvious they were special.

Chris Thom

Oh and Wolf Creek. That one was pretty brutal. The Australian one. Forgot I had it. I rented it before the Blockbusters went out of business and I just got to keep some videos. That and the one with the British school kid in America trying to figure out who's committing murders. I think it was another 'wolf' movie. Forget what it was called.

K, Zachary

That is actually a good one acted like a 70's flick yeah that was a great flick.

Marja

Umm, is it just me or isn’t the Swedish (original) version of Let the Right One In considered superior to the American one?

Clarence Newman

Mike. Just logged in and still no reply count. Not a big problem on its own, but a few things have changed in the format all at once and, in my experience, that always causes glitchy issues. Not sure why anything needed to change.

Richard Maurer

You are correct indeed. The original. Swedish version - Let the Right One In - is usually considered superior to the American version - Let Me In.

Richard Maurer

Patreons new comments section modification arbitrarily removed some comments from this thread, including some of my own replying to other comments. So if you read through and it seems disjointed at the beginning that's why.

Richard Maurer

@ Clarence - there are some things in comments I'd like to see change, like being able to specifically reply to someone's comment without having to write "@ Clarence" or whoever, like you can do on YT. Or being able to go back and go through your old comments as we used to be able to do. But considering patreons record with changes, it would probably be better to just leave it alone.

ArsTropica

Cube, and its spiritual successor, Circle (2015), are both excellent science-fiction/political horror films that make you think. Sadly, they work a little too well in that regard for this channel.

Mike Lemon

Or how about something simple like when you click on your notification it takes you to the comment that was liked/replied to.

Richard Maurer

@ArsTropica - I don't really expect most of these films to make a poll, let alone win. But I feel like I have to at least try to get some good films for Halloween.

Story Archer

Cassie enjoyed Romancing the Stone so much - how has she not made it around to the sequel Jewel of the Nile yet? She'll love it!

Story Archer

The ONE 'Scary-but-not-too-scary' movie Cass absolutely HAS to watch this October is The Village. It has an absolutely star-studded cast, one of the most beautiful scores in memory and, most importantly, it's an AMAZING love story pretending to be a horror movie. I missed out last October but it's my mission to get that film on her radar this year no matter what!

Update: the post count on my horror list post is at 32 now, but there are still only 21 posts you can actually see, more posts (11 total) were removed from the top of the replies (except the first reply, for some reason), so 21 posts seems like maximum that will show.. And the Load replies tab at the bottom still does nothing. This is ridiculous, it basically destroys the thread of my post.

Jabowky

When is Star Trek done for good?

Katie Jackson

I actually just sent Cassie the steelbook of the original Fright Night. Maybe it will win the dvd "lottery" during the live

Chris Thom

Only 25 more years of content left to get to. Lol. Yeah I'm ready for it to wind down too.

Katie Jackson

Cassie has reacted to 28 Days Later & Ransom on the channel

Katie Jackson

I actually LOVE the Scream Franchise, so I'm always up for one of those. I know some of the more hardcore horror fans hate that but theirs those of us that love them. There should be room for both.

Katie Jackson

I amde a suggestion for the original Candyman. The first one is good and genuinely creepy

Butt Head

Cassie is conscious not everyone is a Star Trek fan and has limited her schedule to selected episodes. TNG is almost finished and I'm not sure she'll do any more series after that

Clay F

Richard — I wasn’t serious with those 3 films but instead playing into your comment about people suggesting “non-horror films for Oct.”

Shehab Dawoud

@Katie One can always hope🙏🏻

Chris Thom

Children of the (popped) Corn

Ortizmo

Cassie, keep on at it to Strange New Worlds and I'll up my membership to one of the higher tiers. I got the income to do it.

YodatheHobbit

Reminds me of how long Awkward Ashleigh is going to be releasing Buffy every week for.

Steve

The Pelican Brief. Definitely entertaining. Great John Grisham(you’ve seen The Firm?) film adoption, or whatever. Words. Nice choice. Long Live Popcorn! 🍿
