Once again I'd like to strongly suggest you watch The Menagerie pt1 and 2 in TOS before you watch the Chris Pine movies.

Irby

I loved the star trek movies they are great!!!

ShazD

I'm so glad she picked up on the absurdity of Picard not going back to save his nephew and brother from burning to death in a fire 😭. Even the writers acknowledge it's a huge plot hole but the movie was just so rushed (the uniform mismatches drive me insane)

aarswft

I know there's still alot of road ahead of us, but has it been said if this path will eventually lead to the newer Trek movies with Chris Pine? I hope so.

I was a huge Trekkie when this came out. I went to see it in the theatre with my dad the first night, and after he asked a question that I've never successfully been able to answer - why couldn't Kirk and Picard, when things started to go south, simply have just allowed themselves to be taken up by the ribbon so they could try again?

K

Also, the toys came out first, and they totally made it seem like the Original series crew had way more to do with the story. I remember the blurb for the Scotty figure was something like, 'Scotty thinks the ribbon may be a gateway in space as well as time,' which turned out to be nonsense, since he really has nothing to do with it

Ria Grix

I went to see this at the cinema at peak TNG fandom… couldn’t help but think someone had changed all the lights on the enterprise to 40 watt bulbs. Clearly the Federation were on a cost cutting mission to save a bit of money on the electricity bills.

Irby

Now you gotta check out First Contact

Dana Regan

Awesome reaction. I saw this in theater debut night in San Francisco..so appropriate, too.

Anthony Carlson

It was because it was to hide how the TNG set looked “cheap” on film.

Anthony Carlson

This movie had potential, but boy they botched it really good.

Anthony Carlson

Plus, it would have save a lot of headache uniform wise if the TNG cast worn their tv uniforms.

Glenn McWhirter

A victim of the even/odd number rule of Star Trek movies. First Contact is probably my favourite of all of them. Die hard in space meets the Star Trek nativity.

Chris

I know you're busy watching movies, but after this one came out there was a series of books co-authored by William Shatner. In that series, Kirk's body was reanimated by Romulan "nanites" and he continued to have adventures with Spock and Bones, as well as others.

Joel Cagle

Watching Cassie spit out all the Trek technobable to come up with the solution before the crash had me in tears! 🤣🤣🤣 way to go Cassie! ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!

Mark Daniels

I have been slacking lately but now that you’re here I’ve gotta catch up on the channel, particularly the trek!

John Neiberger

I didn't realize it until now, but my own dad's last words were the same as Captain Kirk's: "Oh, my."

Stranger2Reality

This is less for Cassie and more for all the diehard Trekkies here, but if you guys haven't seen it, you'd probably love the RedLetterMedia review of this movie. I think it might be the first YouTube video they ever released, and it's pretty hilarious to hear Mike just nitpick this movie to death because of how it doesn't line up with the TNG show. Anyway, for anyone interested, here it is: https://youtu.be/3xhslseNBOU

Hi Cassie, great reaction as always. It’s a tricky one, Generations. It was a really good concept for a cross generational trek movie, but poorly executed in some ways, with some glaring plot holes as well. There are some good retrospective youtube videos explaining why this happened. But, problems aside I like this trek movie. It’s a good trek adventure, with some heart felt moments. I look forward too First Contact. What a ride that’s going to be for you!!

Maerandir Eldar

None of the movies line up with the show - the further you go in the films, the more that's the case, and that is largely due to Stewart's insistence on turning Picard into more of an action hero, and exerting his pull with the production to that end. This is why it breaks my heart Cassie treated the series more as a run-up to the movies than the core of what made TNG the definitive Trek for Gen-X'ers and the latter.

Stranger2Reality

For what it's worth, RedLetterMedia did similar videos for all of the TNG movies, and then continued the bit by doing them for the Star Wars prequels, and this is really where they first got any kind of notoriety online.

Im just wondering the benefit of patreon? It seems we only get videos an hr or so b4 they drop on youtube. Am i missing something?

Larry Darrell

Full Reactions to the entire film.

Ben Schwartz

it's my favorite TNG-era Trek movie. I love everything about it, particularly the goldish/yellowish color that they shot it in.

Joe J

Never cared for movie critics, I just watch something and make up my own mind, I'll either like it or not just on an emotional level.

John Sullivan

I would love to watch Firs Contact live with you all ❤️🖖

Cassie, it’s true to TNG to call the entire experience of watching the episodes a “journey”. Even though science fiction gets the science wrong a lot, TNG was one of the first sci fi shows in my lifetime that really tried to make it believable by occasionally using real science terms and ideas in it. Jordi LaForge occasionally mentioned Mass Spectrometer readings, and I used to use Mass Spectrometers in my early college and career days as a chemist 30 years ago. Scotty and Jordi teaming up to deal with a “Dyson sphere”, and there really is a hypothesis about possible Dyson spheres. Wesley crusher refers to neutrinos and that’s a fundamental particle, nanotechnology, etc. There are astrophysicists who say that TNG was the inspiration for their career ambitions. What they were inconsistent about was the vast distances in space they needed to travel ( plot holes ) but to enjoy the show you just ignore those.

Rick Rodriguez

Some great friendly and fun convos commenting on Cassie's reactions and talking movies.

Next movie will be a new Enterprise E, which I always preferred never really liked the look of Enterprise D kinda of goofy Looking. Sovereign Class instead of Galaxy Class. Originally why it was hard to get into the Next Generation and the first season was Bad.

K, Zachary

Cassie, sorry we missed your live, packaging opening on Friday Zach had taken some Xanax that day it causes him to run his mouth and not in a good way. I.e. the Instagram post which when of my co workers tipped me off to it . I deleted it. He should have never taken what was said between us and made it public. 🫢 Check out your YT account there will be some extra cash💸 this month. I can't take back what he said 🤐 but I can lock out is Instagram account. hehehehe. 🤣 He also locked out of here too. He doesn't care he is too full of Valium to care about anything. He stopped taking Xanax. Don't you wonder sometimes what goes through a guys head. https://youtu.be/H3KpR6EyZX0?si=bftY6K3DbL0b40F_

I'm glad you enjoyed this movie, Cassie. It gets a lot of mixed reviews, but I think it's much better than it's often given credit for. The themes of time and mortality and loss are conveyed very well, with powerful performances from both Patrick Stewart and William Shatner. Since you like to read, I recommend checking out Shatner's book "The Return," which is an unofficial sequel to this movie that features the resurrection and further adventure of Kirk. It also gets mixed reviews, but I think it's good fun. Lastly, I'll make a final argument for the inclusion of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" in your Trek journey. Some other commentors have countered that it isn't really necessary, and that's true. You certainly can enjoy the remaining three TNG movies without it. However, between this movie and the next, significant events in the Star Trek universe occur that impact certain among the TNG crew. The change in status quo may be a bit jarring, when "Star Trek: First Contact" picks up with it, if you haven't seen the relevant DS9 episodes. If you don't want to spend a great deal of time on it, then just the two-part season four opener, "The Way of the Warrior," will suffice. Of course, being in the middle of the series, there are things in that episode that won't make sense, having not seen any others. If you're game for more Star Trek, I do recommend going through DS9 similarly to how you've gone through TNG, even though there are no movies. It is an excellent show, with intriguing and emotionally-charged stories and a pantheon of very engaging characters. Some fans consider it to be the best series in the Star Trek franchise, and I think you'd find it worthwhile. If you decide not to, I understand, and I look forward to your review of the next film.

I enjoyed this movie a lot, saw it in the cinema when it came out :)

Also, David Carson directed the film and gave it that same cinematic look just like he did in TNG Season 3 with the episode “Yesterday’s Enterprise.” Very similar look in the alternate reality on the Enterprise D after the Enterprise C shows up and changes everything. But yes, in theaters watching Generations, it was pretty jarring, given how little time jump it should have been from the show to the movie, both in real life and the story.

"Hi Friend" when Scotty walked by, put a smile on my face

Cassie, another milestone in this journey: If you remember how in the series pilot episode “Encounter at Farpoint” that Picard was awkward about children, and the events over 7 seasons mellowed him into a man that loves children and family, and you see it culminated here in his experience with the Nexus. That is what his 7 year journey did for him.

Clarence Newman

I love Troi's role in this movie. I remember when it came out, there were complaints from the TNG actors that they were being marginalised in favour of the Picard/Kirk storyline. They were, of course, but that didn't mean they didn't have great moments. Despite the sparse screen time she had, this movie really showed how important Troi had become to the crew, and particularly Picard, something that had been evident since the episode Chain of Command. At the end of that one, Picard comes on to the bridge after his torture ordeal and greets every member of the crew with his usual stoic formality. When he's done, he gives Troi, and Troi alone, a nod to convey that he needs to talk to her. She silently follows him into the ready room and only then does he open up about his ordeal. In Generations, Picard virtually bites Riker's head off when he attempts to clarify an order, shutting the conversation down completely. He has a chance later to tell Riker in private what's happened, but chooses not to do so. Only when Troi comes in, asking if he's ok, does Picard drop his guard and allow the flood of emotions to come out. With the very occasional exception of Beverly, Troi is the only one he would ever allow to see him like that, and it really showcases her true worth to the crew. When Data has his mini-breakdown after finding Spot at the end of the film, it's Troi who's there to empathise, and because she's the right one to do it, it's a very sweet moment.

I loved going on this journey with you! I watched some with family when it was on but never consistently! Fun to see this movie. I do remember seeing the next one and I’m excited what you think!
