This is awesomesauce. The sisters are starting their journey across the Apes multiverse. I truly hope there are no distractions and they go full throttle through all films, including the 00's Marky Mark funky bunch Tim Burton remix timeline, in release order. Apes strong together!

Jacob Gregg

Please watch the rest of the older Planet of the apes and even the Tim burton one

Some rare support for the Tim Burton POTA. Voters here are not loving that one.

Clay F

I think she would like the Tim Burton one better than the early 1970's movies -- but who knows. I suggested she skip the early 1970s movies and the Tim Burton one, but would be fine if she reacted to one or more of those. I think Escape (1971) and Conquest (1972) are the best of the early 1970s movies. I think Beneath (1970) is better than Battle (1973).

Clay F

The best (the ultimate) of the 10 movies in the franchise. To me, the next best are the 4 newer ones. Battle (1973) is the worst of the 10. Better off reading about Battle (1973) than watching it.

I have not seen the Tim Burton one in many a year. I loved the Danny Elfman theme and the make up was fantastic, but I thought the ending didn't work for me.

Jed Logan

Thank you again Cassie and Carly for another fun reaction. I was worried that the simple special effects might be too primitive for you. But you were able to catch on to the plot and themes in the movie that helped it stand the test of time. This is just the first and six such movies and a failed television series in the late 70s. You wondered why Taylor had such a weird laugh early in the movie, that’s because his character was meant to represent some of the cynicism of the time. You have to remember 1968 on this movie premiere was a very tumultuous year in the history of the United States. You’re talking about the height of the Vietnam protest you’re talking about Woodstock there were still tons of civil rights protest. Plus, beginning of a new women’s liberation movement. Even politically it was far worse than what we’re going through now in 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated and just a little less than six months later Robert Kennedy was also assassinated in Los Angeles. There were rights in the streets in New York in Los Angeles. There was a lot of cynicism amongst the American public at large.

Steven St Clair

I love that you two managed to avoid one of the most well-known spoilers of all time and experience this twist ending for real!

Chris Thom

That reference to the lovey kissing apes from the podcast making a lot more sense now. Lol. Really didn't know what you were talking about last week.

Jason Henderson

57 years since the release! IT’s hard to believe That much time has passed, Can you imagine how this was received back then! The differences from then till now is astonishing!

When I was a teenager back in the 70s I watched a marathon of all five of the original series. I seemed to recall enjoying them, though it helped that the friend I saw it with was an expert in special effects (indeed, he went to work for George Lucas right out of high school) and he provided a fascinating running commentary on how they were made; I’m not sure I would have liked them as much otherwise. In a way they were kind of the precursor to the Star Trek movies, including one where they went back in time to the 20th century. They probably haven’t held up well and seemed a little cheesy even to my teenage self but I don’t think they deserve to be completely written off. I also did see the standalone Tim Burton one; kind of campy and missed the point of the original but found it entertaining. I haven’t seen the fourth one but the first three of the latest reboot series are excellent. And I know I’m sounding like a broken record but I highly recommend 2001: A Space Odyssey; if you think POTA had impressive ape suits and special effects for 1968, 2001 will blow your mind.

GomezAddams

It's great when movies pay tribute to other movies. A great example of this is the news team rumble in Anchorman which pays tribute not only to West Side Story, but this movie, with the men on horses using nets between them.

GomezAddams

"What are they doing?" At the trial, the 3 apes are doing the famous, see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil that was a popular statue and drawing of three monkeys covering their eyes, ears, and mouth, respectively.

ENC SW DV Rush

The trial and Cassie going "What are they doing?" While the orangutans were doing the 'See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil' I had to chuckle at that,...

clutchkman

Great reaction! It would be great if you watched all five, they have good stories as well, but whatever is best for the channel of course.

Mark Vaderr
>>164881285

I've seen a couple of other reactions to this movie, and no one seems to understand what the judges are doing in that scene, or they look at it blankly.

Mark Vaderr

Great edit. I already saw the full reaction, so you already know how I feel. I could see how both of you were really into the movie. Thank you both for watching it.

Mark White

Great reaction Cassie/Carly, I do hope you watch the sequels. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Clarence Newman
>>164874842

There's one thing that would stop her from watching the Tim Burton one, and that's if it occurs to her to ask, "Tim Burton? Didn't he direct Batman '89?"

Clay F
>>164890634

Mark -- They may be disappointed. I think too difficult to predict. The sequels are not at the quality of the 1968 original. Cassie/Carly have no nostalgia. I would hope they would like the sequels.

Clarence Newman
>>164890634

I would like to chime in, guys, but as I am not a fan of the Apes movies, I am unable to contribute. As Kevin Pollak says in A Few Good Men, "I have no responsibilities here whatsoever."

Clarence Newman
>>164890634

Although I reserve the right to warn Cassie against getting attached to the Chuck Berry classic, "Too Much Monkey Business."

SyrupMcWaffle

Notably this movie is referenced and mentioned quite a bit in culture. The ending especially. They referenced it at the end of spaceballs for example. It’s considered one of the best twists in history. Certain quotes are often referenced too. “It’s a Madhouse!” and “Get your stinking paws of me you damn dirty ape” particularly come to mind.

Mark White
>>164890634

There is that possibility Clay, but then again they have enjoyed movies and sequels they were told they wouldn’t. Cassie did seam to enjoy star trek movies she was told we’re not good, such as Insurrection and Nemesis even trek 5! They enjoyed some of the lesser X men movies most people don’t like and of course let’s not forget Croc 2! 😆 I think the sequels which have Cornelius and Dr Zira will interest them. I’m not saying they will enjoy them as much as the first one, but I feel they were intrigued to see what happens next. Even though “Beneath” is just ok, I think it’s worth watching, because I feel they would like “Escape” and “Conquest” I would even endorse them watching Marky mark in the 2001 movie, despite most people hating it. It’s not for me, but they might enjoy a different take on it. All in my humble opinion. But yes, I know! I do have nostalgia for the originals!

Mark White
>>164890634

Chime in all you like Clarence, I never get bored of reading your comments! 😆

Clarence Newman
>>164873655

I recognised the orang utans, probably because I'm a big fan of Every Which Way But Loose (1978)

Kevin O'Donnell

I would suggest at least watching Beneath the planet of the apes and escape from the planet of the apes. The quality after that goes downhill in my opinion. The Tim Burton planet of the apes reboot is OK. But not worth it. The rebooted Apes series is very good though and is not a direct remake of the original story which makes it more interesting I think.

Happy Hanukkah

Planet of the Apes: The Original! 🥔

Happy Hanukkah

Look, I generally enjoy this community, but sometimes you people can be too much. For example, in the comments to the "upcoming" post*, this buffoon Happy Hanukkah was complaining that the poster for this movie contained spoilers. Well I watched this movie, and then watched it carefully another two times before realizing that I was the victim of a hoax; at no point in this movie does a giant ape head rise from the ocean. Thanks a lot, "Happy"! 😤 * https://www.patreon.com/posts/upcoming-la-la-121517093

Mike LL

I have many times in my life in a random setting said "It's a mad house, a maaaad hoooouuuussse!"

Mike LL

Lots of talk in the YouTube chat about the loss of muscle in space that they didn't touch on in this movie. Dagnabbit, I missed this YouTube premier, but I have a weird work schedule these days, I miss most of them. Anywhohow, when this movie was made, 1968, muscle atrophy in space was unknown because man only spent days in space at this time, not months.

Happy Hanukkah
>>164902829

Sure their muscles atrophied, but what y'all are not taking into consideration is that they land on Earth 2000 years in the future. By that point, Earth's gravity will have weakened sufficiently to offset the atrophy! :-) :-) :-)

Happy Hanukkah
>>164902829

I took a look at the chat after reading your comment, but YouTube screwed up: it seems to have connected me to a Soylent Green chat. :-P

Tim C

Liked the original and short lived tv Seies.Roddy McDowall In alot of 60s Movies he played Cornelius Was good in Herman Comedy Horror with the Beautifull Stella Stevens. And think they were both in the original Possedin Adventure. Also liked the one in 2000s with a young Mark Walberge.

Clarence Newman
>>164931790

Now you mention it, Tim, the tv series is probably what I remember the most from my childhood. The actual movie probably came after.

Apollo838

I really hope you watch all 5 old ones. Some are not as good, but I think they’re all worth a watch. Great reaction!

Joe Jupiter

I'm glad you liked this one. I recommend sticking with it and watching all of the original series of films. They're all a bit different, some very different, and all have their good and bad points, but altogether they're a pretty wild ride.

Chris Thom

Looks like this was a pretty big hit on the channel. 78k views and 2400 comments in less than a day. Think I underestimated what a major series this was/is.

Chris Thom
>>164902829

Looks like they had gravity on the ships somehow. But whatever it's a fantasy. If they had to be in wheelchairs the whole time it would've been a very different movie. lol

Chris Thom
>>164899755

Another day, another post. Plus Cassie changed the poster just to make you look bad. Her fault. lol

Happy Hanukkah
>>164899755

There you go, sticking up for one of your fellow inner-circle blue-bloods! Oh no no, you won't pull the wool over my eyes, "Happy Hanukkah"'s true character has been revealed for all to see!

Chris Thom
>>164890634

Think it might be better to skip ahead and then maybe go back depending on how into them she is.

Richard Maurer
>>164881285

It’s one of those things that doesn’t get referenced anymore and is disappearing from the cultural landscape. Happens all the time, we just don’t get it pointed out to us like this that often. Usually things like this disappear with almost no one noticing.

Richard Maurer

There was a theory that an ape suit from PotA was used to make the famous “Bigfoot walking” footage from the 70’s. Ironically that turned out to be a conspiracy theory as the producers of PotA maintain that no full body ape suits were ever made, all the suits had ape clothing attached for monetary reasons (the furred parts were more expensive to make). So assuming the Bigfoot footage was faked they didn’t get an ape suit from PotA.

Chris Thom
>>165002240

I had a King Kong suit I used to wear for Halloween. It was expensive as hell even for a kids' costume so I can imagine.

Chris Thom
>>164896619

There were also those shows on VH1 that were popular. The I Love the 70's/80's/90's etc. They devoted quite a bit of time to Planet of the Apes. That show was great for getting some foundational knowledge about past pop culture. Learned a lot from those.

Chris Thom
>>164873655

Oh woah I thought maybe they were porcupines or armadillos. I get why the DMV made me get glasses now. lol

Happy Hanukkah
>>165002240

You reminded me of the conspiracy theory that the moon landings were a hoax, and that the footage that was disseminated was created by Stanley Kubrick for the US gov't. The reason it looks so real is because Kubrick insisted on filming on location.

Chris Thom
>>164965169

A lot of eyeballs and nostalgia for it at least. 93k already is big for the channel.

Clarence Newman
>>165002240

I only went to one Halloween fancy dress party. I was an executioner and my wife was a werewolf. I wish I'd gone the following year, when one of my friends went as a gorilla. Somehow, he ended up being chased down the street by a bunch of thugs, while his mates, dressed as Batman and Robin, chased after the thugs. It's a crime no one video'd it.

Clarence Newman
>>164965169

Yep, there are ready-made fan bases out there, just waiting for the right films so they can pile on and dial up Cassie's numbers. There are, by way of random example, Dean Martin fans and Burt Reynolds fans, Farrah Fawcett fans and fans of Sammy Davis jr, not to mention the legion of followers for Roger Moore, Jackie Chan and Terry Bradshaw. If only there was a film that all of those legends starred in together, Cassie might hit a million views. 😁

Joe
>>164965169

I'm going to lose my mind if she watches every POTA movie. 😆

Clay F
>>164965169

Not too surprised that the original 1968 is getting good views. What I wonder is if the original sequels would get good views.

Mark Daniels

Love the original ones, Burton one was crap no surprise. Never saw the newer ones but I’d like to see them. It would be a mistake to skip over the original sequels tho. Fight recency bias!

Mark Daniels

Beneath might be my favorite

Jacob Wagner

Skip to the new ones..the sequels are really low budget, campy and pretty boring..they're fine if you dig that kinda film..but they are insufferable to sit thru for normal folk. The new series is epic and emotional and will hit all your sad spots

Mark T
>>165089172

I disagree, the original sequels are hardly insufferable. While not up to par with the original, they are worth the watch. They answer a lot of questions and provide background on the original. I would definitely NOT skip "Escape" and "Conquest", I think Cassie would enjoy both of them for the same reasons she enjoyed the first one.

Clay F
>>165085564

Of the entire franchise? Your favorite of the 10 movies in the franchise. Or of the 4 1970's sequels.

Mark Daniels
>>165085564

Of the OGs. Never seen the new jawns but I’m sure they’re good. It’d be silly to embark upon a series of films and skip most of it.

Clay F
>>165085564

Do you like Beneath better than the 1968 original? You will be glad to know (you may already know) that she is reacting to Beneath, Escape, and Conquest -- but apparently skipping Battle. I look forward to her reactions to those 3. I think Escape is the best of the 4 1970's sequels, but been a couple of decades since I watched it.

Clay F
>>165089172

She might find "Beneath" somewhat insufferable -- we will see shortly. Better chance that she will tolerate "Escape" and "Conquest" (the best 2 of the 4 sequels).

Brad Enervold

I think you should watch the next one. But defiantly, most defiantly do not watch the Mark Wallburg one. Then start with the new ones in order. By the way, the pose that the 3 judges make are " See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and Speak No Evil".
