Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for JFK, which will premiere shortly on Patreon!

Rosario Cicero

I went to film school in the early nineties and it was considered “cool” to insult Oliver Stone. Mental midgets I tells ya!!!

Jacob Colson

I wonder if World Trade Center with Nicolas Cage is on Cassie's list. One Nic Cage movie I don't see often getting reacted to is Bringing Out the Dead.

Romero Cetera Rivers

The film's thrust is not toward truth, but toward frustration and anger. Too many lies have been told, and too much evidence has been tainted for the truth to ever be known. I think Oliver Stone was born to make this movie, he is a filmmaker of feverish energy and limitless technical skills. This is a masterpiece of film assembly. He's able to assemble a bewildering array of facts and fancies and compose them into a film without getting bogged down...Stone found the right visual style, too. We are being bombarded by incoming information...It comes from decades of films, print, TV news, documentaries, and photographs analyzed down to their molecules! It's a collage of all the books and articles, scholarly debates, and conspiracy theories since 1963. These items are like pegs on a child's workbench: We pound one, and another one springs up. "JFK" will stand indefinitely as a record of how we felt. How the American people suspect there was more to it than ever was revealed. How we suspect Oswald was not entirely alone. That there was some kind of conspiracy. "JFK" is a brilliant reflection of our unease and paranoia, our restless dissatisfaction. On that level, it is completely factual. Its achievement lies in its attempt to marshal the anger ever since 1963- This great mysterious case that has been gnawing away on some dark shelf of the national psyche.

Above Average Dave

Just for you, Cassie, why I believe Oswald at the very least did not act alone (if he was a shooter at all), and why a conspiracy and cover-up of some sort was an absolute fact: 1. Oswald renounced his citizenship, defected to the USSR living there under special privileges that many ordinary Soviet citizens weren't afforded, and then was allowed to LEAVE and getting ready entry BACK INTO THE U.S. The "leave" part is hard enough to believe on its own. The USSR was an incredibly oppressive place that exerted tremendous control over its citizens. It was hard enough to travel to other Soviet bloc countries—something reserved for party officials and people deemed "true communists." Getting to go to a western country was nearly impossible. The ease which he left would almost certainly dictate to the three-letter agencies that this guy was now a spy or something even worse. Almost as improbable is someone who openly defected to the USSR and was the subject of numerous news stories because of this being so easliy released from the Soviet sphere and then allowed BACK into the US without an extended detainment for extensive—and back in the early 1960s, one can assume aggressive—interrogation. All the events from his defection to re-entry and freedom of movement in the US without the above and 24-7 surveillance stinks more than five-day old fish shoved in gym shoes that have been left out in the Houston sun. In July. 2. Three shots from the book depository building in under six seconds by Oswald using that bolt-action rifle is...beyond improbable I've been shooting since I was 7, was on a rifle team in my teens and have continued target shooting well into adulthood with all sorts of firearms. I can tell you recycling the bolt to get 3 shots in 6 seconds under stress firing at a moving target (so with each shot it travels father away) from elevation (significantly more difficult to do this with a drop AND calculate the added distance, all while cycling the rifle) and hitting a mark the size of a mellon that is moving not just away from you but also side to side as the person waves and leans and looks at the crowd is another near possibility. Maybe 100 guys on the planet can do that right now, but they'd need much high quality equipment that's sighted in and would have to use match grade or better ammo. Also, that rifle and its scope were not zeroed in and the scope was improperly mounted. In common terms: That means hitting anything a shooter was aiming it would be next to impossible without on the spot adustments. The latter could not happen in the six second timespan for two shots, never miund three. 3. The Magic Bullet Theory. This is impossible and defies the laws of physics. No slug—especially one of lead, which is a realtively soft metal—hitting that many different impediments survives without some compression and degredation to the slug. It. Is. Physically. Im. Possible. Which means, someone put the pristine slug on the gurney. Which in itself screams collaboration and cover-up. Bottom line: You can argue about witnesses, what people heard and saw, associations with suspected operatives and underworld personalities, the credibility of people involved with this case, witnesses :suddenly dying" and all these other variables. All that stuff is well beyond me. However, the three points above, which produce Oswald's presence and actions on Nov 22, and the key evidentiary exhibit of those actions include: an extremely improbable occurance, a nearly impossible feat of marksmanship using substandard equipment and off-the-shelf load and the key piece of evidence being a physical impossiblility. So for me, yeah, Oswald acting alone is a hard no. The people who pushed the "finding" ingnored and whitewahsed the incontrovertible hard evidence above and were involved, at the very least, in a cover-up designed specifically to tag anyone who wanted further inquiry as a "conspiracy theorist" and paranoid crackpot.

Bill W

There's so many characters, and performances, and segments of this film that are excellent, but if I had to choose 1 that stands out it would be Donald Sutherland's monologue. The editing on that was smooth as well....like he did it all in 1 take.

Guy

Just watched this film again in full a couple of weeks ago. Without re-litigating the truth, the long speeches by both Donald Sutherland in the park and Costner in the courtroom are remarkable combinations of script and film editing. Cassie’s reaction did not disappoint.

Stephen Malloy

Garrison was full of crap. The jury came back with a not guilty verdict in a flash. The whole teams of shooters stuff is crap. Did Chris Kyle need five extra shooters to shoot one guy? The movie is Stone's fever dream, a work of fiction.

Bill Isaacs

Cyril Wecht, in the one talk they allowed him to give at the sixth floor museum, said that if God spoke to him and told him he had to abandon the JFK thing altogether and leave it behind, but could keep ONE thing from it, that thing would be the photograph taken by the FBI of the bullets fired in various tests alongside the "magic bullet", which is the best looking one of the lineup. It has only a little compression on the rear end, the way a bullet fired into cotton or water would have. It was that clean. In his mind, and this was a man who was both a prominent doctor and lawyer as well as a decades-long JFK researcher (as well as being a consulting pathologist in RFK's autopsy), the magic bullet theory is ultimate proof that there was a conspiracy. I happen to agree with him. Which means we both agree with you, and I'm sure you knew all of that anyway. :)

Thoko

A few days ago I saw it announced that NBC has been sitting on video evidence that Oswald was near Kennedy when he was shot, which means that Oswald was not able to have taken the shot.

Bill Isaacs

Let me leave this thread with one "magic" comment about the reaction itself: bellissima! Very good job Cassie. You always ask the simplest questions, which are almost always the best kind to ask. Your entire soul is on your face, and it's a joy to see.

Michael Siegel

Penn and Teller addressed your points 2 and 3 in their debunking of the conspiracy theories. You can easily get off three shots in that frame of time (it's actually 8.5 seconds; they did on TV; I've done it live). And the single bullet theory makes perfect sense if you have the correct placement of Kennedy and Connally in the car, rather than the incorrect placement the conspiracy theorists use (and the bullet wounds being in a straight line only makes sense with a single bullet). They also address Garrison/Stone's "back and to the left" thing, which, if you know how bullets work, clearly indicates Kennedy was shot from behind.

Michael Siegel

Exactly. When people talk about how improbable Oswald's shot was, they ignore how improbable it was that you had a bunch of shooters around and no one saw them.

Patrick Flanagan

The single bullet theory wasn't from "conspiracy theorists," it was the Warren Commission's own explanation! And changing the seating of Connolly doesn't explain why a bullet would be almost pristine after causing 7 wounds, or why the chain of custody for this bullet after it was found is so confusing and contradictory.

Above Average Dave

Uh huh. Penn and Teller the illusionists? But ok, Michael, If you can get those three shots off, can you still hit a moving target approximately 18 inches by 12 inches with a 70 foot drop as it moves not just away from you but side to side? Please, show me your video of this marksmanship using that cheap, unsighted rifle.

Clay F

Above Average Dave, your post is complete gibberish. For instance, Oswald's 3 shots in 8.5 seconds is completely doable.

Clay F

Garrison was full of crap. So is this movie.

Clay F

Thoko -- Source? Announced? That right-wing hack on the Jesse Waters show on Fox News? Evidence?

Thoko

Did you hear the news that NBC is sitting on video evidence that Oswald was near Kennedy's car when the shooting happened? If this is true, it makes it literally impossible for Oswald to be the shooter. I'm looking forward to seeing if the footage is legit. If so, I will pray for you. I know you will be upset.

Thoko

Is Oswald the same skill level as Chris Kyle, now? Herp derp

Robert L

I love this movie ... it was the first time I realize in life that there are no truths just opinions and intentions.

Michael Siegel

I'm obviously quite opinionated on this subject :) but I 100% agree with Cassie's assessment and her open mind is one of the reasons I like this channel so much! JFK is a very well-made movie that is very convincing at what it does. But you shouldn't mistake it for truth. When I watched it for the first time in 1991, it set off my interest in conspiracy theories (which led me to the realization that most are garbage). Glad you enjoyed it!

TheSingulatarian

Poor Cassie, she looks so bewildered in that thumbnail.

Chris Thom

It's not that there's no truth, it's just that it's often complicated. Especially in politics. With a lot of different personal and political agendas clashing. And it can be even more complicated in that we aren't even sure what our own personal biases and desires are.

Chris Thom

Seeing the Zapruder tape I did always think the final kill shot seemed like a different angle. But I don't know.

Chris Thom

And props to Sutherland for remembering all those lines.

Chris Thom

His Russian documentaries went a bit off the deep end imo.

jdj830

One of my earliest memories, seared into my brain, occurred in the summer of 1965, when I was 3, a month or two before I turned 4. I was walking with my mother through the New York World’s Fair in Flushing, Queens. A man came up to us with tears in his eyes and told my mother I looked exactly like John-John. (That was the nickname of JFK Jr., who became iconic thanks to a photo of him saluting his father’s casket. The real John jr was 9 months older than me; I had no memory of the assassination, which occurred when I was 27 months old.) So anyway this crying man at the world’s fair salutes me and tells me I’m going to be president someday. He walks away, but this caused a stir among people nearby who assumed that my mother must have been a nanny hired by Jackie Kennedy to take her son for a walk - which of course made no sense whatsoever, since the real Kennedy clan was kept under tight security, and I think everyone knew that, but something about me triggered this intense irrational response. It was then that I started to get the message that the world I had been born into was a big mess that was just as frightening to the grownups as it was to me. I could feel the lingering trauma of the assassination throughout my childhood. I’ve compared notes with young adults born in 1999 or 2000 and they have a similar relationship to 9/11. The point of my telling this story is to convey just how deeply this affected the psyche of that generation and why they continue to be obsessed by it (and it doesn’t help that the Warren Commission report had glaring inconsistencies.)

Happy Hanukkah

I've seen the Zapruder film about a hundred and sixty-seven times, and it keeps getting funnier every single time I see it! [Apologies to the sensitive.]

Clay F

So you answer a question with a question. I ask the source, and you didn't provide the source. Not surprised. I heard no reliable source say that NBC news is sitting on the alleged video evidence you describe. I've seen no evidence that NBC news is sitting on video evidence. You are the ultimate wild conspiracy theorist. The evidence is clear that Oswald shot Kenney from the 6th floor. Oswald’s fingerprints (not just palm prints) on the rifle. https://www.jfk-online.com/prints.html We know that Oswald ordered the weapon; the handwriting on the order form has been positively identified as Oswald's by numerous handwriting experts. There is no doubt about the fact that the rifle found in the Texas School Book Depository belonged to Lee Harvey Oswald; he ordered it from Klein's Sporting Goods; he had his wife photograph him with it (it is identifiable by the same markings that allow it to be identified in the newsreel footage of Tom Alyea); his fingerprints and no one else's were found on it; physical evidence links this rifle, to the exclusion of all other rifles, to a bullet recovered from the motorcade; one eyewitness, Howard Leslie Brennan, positively identified Oswald as the man in the "sniper's nest" window he saw fire at the President.

Thoko

Clay stop lying. The reason why I posted that message a second time is because you click the reply button on YOUR own messages rather than my message so that I never receive a notification if you reply to me. I only came back here to write this comment because other people liked my comment. I received no notification from you once again. The source of the claim is Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna

Mike the Ginger

This. I am not close minded, but many things from this film were debunked decades ago. What a great film though! Never gets old! Classic.

Bill W

Cassie, I hope that if you get around to watching this a second time you can appreciate it more as a film. It's a lot to take in on the first watch. All the military history, different political leanings at the time, faces, names, sequence of events etc. On second and subsequent watches it's more enjoyable...the actors performances, period clothing/props/set design, cinematography, editing and splicing in actual historical footage. Plus there are a lot more actors that you should recognize that you didn't call out. I'm sure you'll spot more of them the second time around. (but not Joe Peshky or Gary Oldham.) 😀

Clay F

Thoko, you always have some conspiracy going about me. I am not lying. You don't understand how the reply function works. The reply is to the original post. The author of the original post receives the notification. Jesus Christ, you are a dumbass. So your sole source without confirmation is what that right-right-wing hack said on the Jesse Waters show on Fox News? Of course, she provided no evidence, and no one backs her up. "The Florida lawmaker alleged that there was an unseen tape that could blow the whole thing open, despites decades of evidence to the contrary." "Multiple experts have said they do not expect any new major revelations from the release of the JFK files."

Thoko

I'm a computer programmer with more than 20 years experience so I know how these things works. Each comment has a reply button. You're supposed to click the reply button on the message that you are replying to so that the notification goes to that person. You are clicking the wrong reply button so that you can create the illusion that you won the debate. And now you respond with an ad hominem attack. Attacking someone's political party is not an argument. It is a logical fallacy. Being an "expert" on JFK doesn't mean that you can predict the future about what new information might be released. You're getting desperate Clay.

Mike Lemon

Oliver Stone, who directed this, was a producer on Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995) which starred James Woods. Woods was a producer on Oppenheimer. Cassie, the universe is telling you something- you need to watch Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995).

Gábor Árki

@Patrick The bullet is far from a pristine condition. One side of it is deformed and has lost ~10% of its original mass. From what I read, it is a condition consistent for a bullet of this type if it passed through only on soft tissue and didn't hit any bone or hard surface directly. From the injuries we know it shattered one of Connally’s ribs, but only nicking the edge, and fractured a bone in his wrist. This last one was the hardest impact it made, but at that time it already lost most of its velocity after passing through both JFK's and Connally’s torso.

Gábor Árki

@Thoko, Oswald was a competent shot. Based on his military records, he shot just below the expert level, reaching sharpshooter grade. He also hunted, and had experience with shooting on moving targets. Both the Warren commission and others have tried to recreate the shooting and found that shooters with similar skill than Oswald could replicate the shots, given the 8,4 seconds, distance, elevation and on a vehicle slowly moving directly away.

Gábor Árki

"But you shouldn't mistake it for truth". And that is its biggest flaw. It never makes clear that much of what you see is a mix of half-truths, conspiracy theories, and fabricated events designed to support its narrative. However, the way it is edited, and using real historical footage and evidence to support its narrative, the often documentary-like style, creates an illusion of truth. As a result, many may mistake it for truth unless they take the time to investigate further.

Patrick Switzer

It is a good movie but I do wonder if we will ever know who was behind the assassination

Mike Lemon

Mike Lemon

@Thoko- Patreon comments are borked. No matter who you reply to, only the top level commentor gets a notification. That is why everyone has taken to using @(name) when they reply to someone other than OP, they might throw a like on a comment so whoever is being replied to gets something too.

Henry Graham

I'm so glad to see this argument is continuing under the YouTube edit too! This absolutely seems like the most productive use of everyone's time.

Clay F

Thoko so you readily believe a lying politician spewing misinformation who presents no evidence and has no support by others for her ridiculous allegation.

Dryfesands

Wait . . . someone shot the President?!?!?!

Jack Pflieder

A great companion piece to this movie is Nixon. You should definitely react to that one. It is also Athony Hopkins best role (IMO)

Chris Thom

Great one. Probably my favorite Oliver Stone movie...and Anthony Hopkins performance.

Chris Thom

Wouldn't be surprised if Russia had something to do with it.

Chris Thom

Forgot how good the score is too. It's perfect thriller music.

Bill W

Right, especially during Costner's courtroom scene.

Chris Thom

Haven't seen this in a while, but was struck by how good that John Williams score was. What a talent. Perfect music for an investigative thriller.

Arturo

Can anyone recommend Youtube videos on the "Big" conspiracy theories? Maybe some that Cassie and Carly could watch on the channel? I was able to find this one I saw a long time ago ( https://youtu.be/rt0id_LEyIY ) on the 1912 sinking of the RMS Titanic

Raieldon

Ahh, man, that was great. I saw this movie three times as a kid. It might be the most gripping detective fiction I've ever seen. It's a shame that it's such an atrocity of misinformation. Literal hundreds of lies that Oliver Stone told us which have been debunked point by point, many of them being lies about real people. Even in that way you can use it as a challenge about inductive reasoning and fallacy: Every time we went "hmm, that's really interesting", we all became stupider. It's also fascinating how this proto-q-anon trend was once such a phenomenon of the left, and we've practically forgotten about it. The A-listers lining up to work in this movie without pay is a historically fascinating look at contemporary Hollywood. But man, it's just SO narratively immersive, isn't it?

Happy Hanukkah

For Chris or anyone who might not have gotten the reference: My comment was a tongue-in-cheek blending of the obsessives who ceaselessly pore over the Zapruder film and the following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WbugU5t9Yo&t=940s (Management will not be responsible for any spoilage.)

Happy Hanukkah

Why *not* shoot a president? [Note to the Secret Service and the humorless or clueless: this was purely a movie reference.]

Happy Hanukkah

What? No, nobody actually shot Kennedy! What kind of a rube are you to fall for that ridiculous nonsense? John F. Kennedy actually died of syphilis. *They* created this whole "shooting" story in order to cover this up. Indeed, Oliver Stone was part of this effort. His role was to popularize convenient red herrings, so that people would become distracted with arguments over who exactly shot JFK and why, instead of realizing the actual truth. You're welcome.

Above Average Dave

Zapruder film puts the three shots at six seconds, Clay. And regardless of time, shooting a moving target - moving away from the sight line - under stress at elevation is extremely difficult on its own. Cycling a bolt between shots moves the rifle, which means position reset and realignment. You can go to any range and try it if they have an elevated position. Even shooting at paper targets, that is difficult at best. it’s not like the movies or TV where every shadow is a bull’s-eye. Something like that takes significant skill and practice. And it’s a perishable skill, one that diminishes without regular practice. Now add adrenaline, wind, the moving car, and the target moving side to side. I have decades of practical experience with rifles. I will stand by what I said that maybe 100 people on the planet can make those shots under those conditions. And they’d be using much better weapons, ammo, and optics.

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

Hey Cassie, you were asking about Oliver Stone, he also directed Platoon.

Gábor Árki

The Zapruder film makes only 2 shots identifiable. One around frames 223-224, striking JFK in the neck, and another at frame 313, hitting his head. Given the recording speed of 18.3 fps, the interval between these two shots is approximately 4.9 seconds. The timing of the third shot is based on speculation due to lack of any clear evidence recorded, but that was most likely the first one fired, estimated to be around frame 160, because that is when the car reached direct line of sight from the window due to a tree. Altogether, this adds up to be 8.3 seconds. Oswald was a decent shot based on his military records, and he did have practice on moving targets as a hunter. Also, the target was not moving side to side. The car was moving almost directly away from the shooting position, minimizing lateral movement. From what I know, both the Warren Commission and later tests found that shooters with similar level skills were able to reproduce the shots. PS: one theory about why Oswald chose to fire on Elm Street rather than Houston Street is that, from his position, the approaching car on Houston would have had significant lateral movement since the street runs alongside the warehouse. However, after the turn onto Elm Street, the car followed a curved path near the Grassy Knoll, moving almost directly away from his position in a relatively straight line, making for an easier shot.

Carol Rocha

PLEASE PLEASE WATCH “DRAGONFLY” with Kevin Costner, Kathy Bates ( Supernatural thriller)

Mike Lemon

He was also a producer on Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995)!, and he wrote Conan the Barbarian.

Carol Rocha

Have you done “SHOOTER” with Mark Wahlberg?? Phenomenal movie! 🍿

Above Average Dave

So, Gábor, Clay and Michael — just to be clear: I shared specific information about making several shots in rapid succession on a target mvoing away (and side-to-side as POTUS was turning and waving throughout the ride) from the set position, with a 70+ foot drop, using a sub-standard firearm, a non-zeroed scope and otc ammo based —all on 40+ years of hands-on experience, which included at one point in my life competitive rifle competitions, and you're all refuting this with...some things you read on the Internet? OK... Bless your hearts, y'all.

Chris Thom

Always forget about that one. I think it came out right after 9/11 or something.

Chris Thom

Pretty much every major event in history has a conspiracy theory attached to it. I always thought they were a newer phenomenon, but apparently not. They're most active around the rich and powerful. A perennial one is aristocrats stealing children, performing sacrifices, and praying to the devil. Which is partly true in some cases unfortunately. Some nobles actually were found to be serial killers. And Count Vlad (Dracula) really was a bloodthirsty freak.

Chris Thom

And the Donald Sutherland scene.

Chris Thom

Yeah I wasn't born yet but I get the sense that it was a major collective trauma. After WW2 you would think the country may've been accustomed to more of that kind of thing, but it doesn't seem to be the case. I think it's because he represented so much hope to a lot of people.

Chris Thom

The fake interview with the lady talking about the grassy knoll was really effective.

Chris Thom

Cassie, what the actual heck. We were completely expecting you to disseminate all relevant facts and figures and deliver surrounding the assassination and deliver to us the absolute, unfettered truth about what happened that day. What is this channel ever for? I sense some uncertainty in your final analysis. Unacceptable. (jk you did great. Awesome vid)

Clarence Newman

Cassie should watch the Star Trek: TNG episode “A Matter of Perspective”. Pretty much covers all aspects that a jury would have to deal with.

Arturo

Indeed... The "Incidents" in my list so far 1912 RMS Titanic and Olympic ( https://youtu.be/rt0id_LEyIY or https://youtu.be/nj6Hqwmf77A ) 1898 USS Maine mysteriously exploded and sank in Havana Harbor and became a key factor in the United States decision to declare war on Spain 1964 USS Maddox torpedo by the North Vietnamese in the Gulf of Tonkin and became the legal basis Vietnam War 1967 USS Liberty attack by jet fighter aircraft and torpedo boats during the Six-day-War 1990 The nurse that testified in Congressional that she had witnessed Iraqi soldiers brutally killing babies by throwing them out of incubators at a Kuwaiti hospital 2001 Passports belonging to some of the hijackers were found at the crash sites of United Airlines Flight 93 and American Airlines Flight 11 ( https://youtu.be/HIBG_InCKKI ) 2003 The claim that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMD) was a key justification for the 2003 invasion of Iraq 2011 NATO bombing of Libya to protect civilians ( https://youtu.be/Eo6u9DpASp8 https://youtu.be/O6S27UonqKI https://youtu.be/DSzVrlNsaXM ) 2018 Syria gas attack ( https://youtu.be/gVcAJ0mV4RE )

Joe J

Check her Letterbox for all the films she's already seen.

Joe J

Cassie would never watch any of that on the channel.

Arturo

Yes, she should watch Shooter (2007). The possibility of a "self deleting mechanism" is terrifying.

Joe J

You should submit it as a PAF, it will never get watched otherwise.

Joe J

An early release for us Patrons, I like it. I've always wanted to get the YT edits sooner than we do, maybe this is a trend?

Just Plain Bob

JFK did not die by bullet or syphilis. He was dyed black (to ruin his credibility if he continued to insist on his real identity), a bag of sand was used to replace the missing brain tissue from the failed assassination attempt and he was sent to live in a Texas nursing home with his buddy Elvis Presley. It’s all recorded in the excellent documentary “Bubba Ho-Tep.”

Happy Hanukkah

It just goes to prove she's part of the conspiracy!!1!

Bill Maurer

Doable, but hitting a moving target doable ?? Shooting or getting rounds off in that time span is doable, but hitting the target is another thing. A moving target that is.

Gray

Nah it was blocked on youtube last night

Joe J

What was I thinking, hope just got the better of me there, Lol.

Arturo

No, I believe that. I was answering Chris Thorm's comment "...major in event in history has a conspiracy theory attached." This is a list of some of the "big ones" in "modern times" that I could find.

Mark White

It got blocked?! I sense a conspiracy! 🧐😆

Carol Rocha

I’ll go back and check. 👍🏼

Chris Thom

Oh no I never considered that she would purposely sandbag us like that in a reaction. It all makes perfect sense now...

Chris Thom

It is kinda nice to get a minute to think of what you might want to write during the LIVE chat.

Sean

Such a good film. I can't wait to see your reaction to it.

Bill Maurer

I just can't get past the Single Bullet theory ... I am a vet but a non-combat Vet. I cannot get my head past one bullet doing all of that damage. This company, based in Phoenix, did a laser digital re-creation of Dealey Plaza and sees no scientific possibility of this Single Bullet happening.... https://youtu.be/Ss8XOQD1hEE?si=P8gxWNVKpax7q8o0 Then one of the secret service agents recently came out and said he found the Single Bullet on the BACK of the Presidential Limo and then placed that bullet on Connally's gurney. https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2023/09/new-jfk-assassination-revelation-upend-lone-gunman

Stan the Man

I’m terrified at looking at these comments. I just hope anyone who watches this movie realizes it’s almost entirely fiction. I mean it does get a few things right. There was a President named Kennedy. He was assassinated. And a crazy DA in Louisiana took it upon himself to indict a man who had nothing to do with it. Beyond that? It’s mostly fiction. We need to be honest with ourselves on why we tend to gravitate towards conspiracy theories. We WANT them to be true. On some level, conspiracy theories make life feel more like a movie or TV show. The truth is often simple and boring. People find it hard to believe a lone loser with a gun can bring down the most powerful man in the world. There must be more to it than that! It can’t be that simple! Where’s the mystery? The drama? That’s it? One guy? With a cheap rifle?

Clay F

Stan, well said.

Mike Lemon

"Texas ... with his buddy Elvis Presley. " What are you talking about? Elvis lived in Indiana. (Can anybody name that reference?)

Bryan Fritchie

I don't think she's watched either of those, has she?

Thoko

Mike, there are times when I write a top level comment and I don't get the reply notification because people like Clay will reply to someone else in my thread. Its more complicated than what you say.

Bryan Fritchie

1) I remember a time when you couldn't have picked out anyone in a movie. Well I think you missed a few here (Michael Rooker, Donald Sutherland), you did catch most of them. 👍🏻 2) The single bullet theory has already been explained in a movie that you watched. X-Men: Days of Future Past! 😂

Thoko

Clay, it is not a "ridiculous allegation" that a news network contains video footage of a news event. It is literally the job of a news network to record video. And there is a long history of news networks suppressing controvercial news stories. If you read my original comment I never implied that I am 100% certain that the story is true. But it is definitely plausible. And if you can't see that then you're dumber than I thought

Patrick Flanagan

He's credited on CONAN but Milius completely rewrote him. Stone's draft is set after a nuclear war and had Conan fighting an army of mutants.

Clay F

Thoko, whether I reply to you or somone else, the author of the original post receives the notification. You are dense.

This movie has to have more dialog in it than any other movie in history. Top 3 at least.

Stan the Man

This and Zodiac are terrific movies and masterclass of exposition. Think about it. Like 75% or more of this movie is pure exposition. And exposition is usually where good writing goes to die. But here…it sucks you in. The editing, the music, the script. Sometimes I can’t make up my mind on whether or not the fact that it’s completely fiction hurts the film as a film. The purist in me wants to say no. The reality should have no bearing on how this film is judged. Same way how incels have co-opted movies like Fight Club or conspiracy theorists The Matrix(Red Pill etc). But I think this film and the fiction it sells the audience is a little more sinister. The seeds it planted in 1991 have bloomed into the world we see around us today. Oliver Stone wasn’t just trying to make an entertaining movie. He’s a true believer and when you watch his documentary series about the History of the United States, it’s clear the man has an agenda. I won’t get into the purpose of that since that’s not what this channel is about but it has made it harder for me to view this film as just an entertaining movie. Which is a shame since it’s a got the goods.

Because that is precisely the explanation they provide. Connally was not seated directly in front of JFK, as the "Magic Bullet" theorists claim. He was positioned on a jump seat, which was lower and set further inward in the car. So he was sitting somewhat to the left of JFK, who was at the edge of his seat, resting his right hand on the side of the car when not waving.

Thoko

Nice try at avoiding the main conversation Clay. You must really be upset at the possibility of NBC having that tape. Almost as mad as you are that the JFK papers showed Israel's involvement in having Kennedy killed. Cry harder Clay.

Raieldon

I literally almost mentioned Fight Club and Bioshock as examples of uniquely valuable art that obviously has a different predictive effect on the hoi polloi. But of course, those were satires that had the bravery to present the appeal of their subject. With JFK we're explicitly meant to outrage against lies of authority from government while giving a pass to lies of authority from the director's chair.

Clay F

Thoko, you accused me of a conspiracy -- of lying -- in how I replied. Don't you feel stupid. There is zero evidence of NBC having such a tape. The Trump hack did not testify under oath but instead spewed gibberish on the Jesse Watters show on Fox News in an effort to make the release of the JFK files seem more significant. Glad to hear you are not 100% certain like you are with your wild conspiracy theory of 9/11 planes being remotely guided into the Twin Towers. Not a single shred of evidence has emerged in any of the documents relating to JFK - including the ones released recently - linking Israel to playing any part in his murder.

Thoko

Cry harder Clay. You're just a fascist boot licker spreading the propaganda of a genocidal government (USA) and its genocidal colony (Israel). Trump and Netanyahu are grateful for your pandering to their agendas

Clay F

Still waiting from you for a cite or a quote from a JFK paper that Israel was involve in killing JFK. Instead, you respond with slander. Not surprised. You have no substance. This has nothing to do with Netanyahu. I have despised Netanyahu for 30 years. And it is you who cite the Trump hack on the Jesse Watters show.

I think you should do a documentary poll. As long as you stay away from the politically charged ones you should be ok. Here, I'll get you started: 1. Black Fish (how do they get those killer whales to Sea World?) 2. SOMM (more people have walked the moon than passed this test...) 3. Sound City (Dave Grohl sees his career come full circle) 4. Linda Ronstadt: The Sound Of My Voice (Beyonce before there was a Beyonce) 5. Hoop Dreams (young athletes, big dreams) 6. Murderball (rugby but in wheelchairs) 7. When We Were Kings (Ali v Foreman Rumble in the Jungle) 8. March of the Penguins (Big birds and Morgan Freeman's voice.. mmmm so good) 9. The Wrecking Crew (the best musicians you've never heard of) 10. Pumping Iron (Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Arnold Schwarzenegger ...)

Mark White

Javier, nice idea. For me, my favourite Documentary is “The Alpinist” if you like mountains and climbing it’s a must, it’s such an amazing story about a Canadian kid called Marc Andre Leclerc and his free solo attempts on some of the most dangerous climbs in the world.

Bill Maurer

Nice, but why not add a photo or two of how they actually were sitting on that day in Dallas on November, 1963 https://content.api.news/v3/images/bin/7cfb12a99c2f5032393c090c91cd539a?width=1024 https://www.jfk.org/collections-archive/35mm-negative-b-w-5/ https://emuseum.jfk.org/internal/media/dispatcher/24919/preview Ever image I seen of how Kennedy and Connally together in that limo had Kennedy directly behind Connally .... not inward as you state. Even the Zapruder film showed Connally turning toward the exterior of the car with his face to the crowd. Not internally

Chris Thom

Some really good ones. One of my personal favorites is The Fog of War. It's political yes, but it's most more historical in nature, and about the consequences of US foreign policy and the military industrial complex.

Ria Grix

Waiting for Superman is a very moving and revealing documentary, even for someone unaffected by the inequality of education in the USA (I’m in the UK)

Javier Hernandez

I've seen it and I did like it, but education might be too hot of a topic in the USA at the moment.

Javier Hernandez

Mark, I've never heard o f that one but I'll put it on my list. Thanks!

Javier Hernandez

Chris, I liked that one but probable a bit too charged for PIB. You should check out a doc called "Restrepo" about one of the furthest most remote US camps in Afghanistan.

Bill W

I swear she called out Donald Sutherland. She spotted Joe Peshky and Gary Oldham! 🤣 It's a lot to take in on a first watch. She might be able to ID more faces if she watches a 2nd time since she already had some of the pieces put together... character names, sequence of events etc..

Cassie is a mystery wrapped in a fleece blanket inside our computers.

It is not that easy to tell from the pictures made from the side. But your third picture, taken from the right angle, shows exactly how differently they were seated to each other. Also, here is a short video modelling them in 3D: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfSXkfV_mhA

Bill Maurer

They we seated in line. Connally and then Kennedy right behind him

Gábor Árki

Just take a look at your third picture: https://emuseum.jfk.org/internal/media/dispatcher/24919/preview How could JFK have been sitting "right behind" Connally when his hand was often resting on the side of the car, and there was clearly a gap between Connally's arm and the door where his arm could easily fit? Connally's right shoulder was more or less aligned with the right side of JFK's neck. Additionally, Connally was seated slightly lower and was turning to his right when he was hit. This positioning aligns all their wounds with the trajectory of a single bullet.

Bill W

I enjoy documentaries....but where does the emotional aspect come in? Laughter, tears, plot turns, jump-scares etc.... pretty much everything that makes watching movie reactions worthwhile?

Bill Maurer

That was at the airport. In the morning. Look at the photos at Dealey plaza

Patrick Flanagan

My favorite documentary is CRUMB but I don't think that one would fly here, lol

Bill Maurer

"Mr. Connally himself testified before the Warren Commission that he did not believe the single-bullet theory, and both Governor Connally and his wife stated many times that he had been struck by a second, separate bullet after President Kennedy was hit the first time. Mrs. Connally made it clear that after the first shot, she saw the President clutch his throat before her husband was struck by the next shot." https://www.nytimes.com/1993/07/12/opinion/l-connally-too-rejected-single-bullet-idea-017493.html Connally has stated that he believes Oswald acted alone but does not believe in the Single Bullet Theory(SBT). You may want to take his word on the SBT ... him and his wife were both there.

Bryan Fritchie

I commented after the reaction while she was still talking, and she did catch their names after she saw the credits. 👍🏻

JB

Great idea overall. Some more I would add: Free Solo Icarus Searching for Sugarman

JB

Bill W, maybe you haven't watched the right kind of documentaries, there's plenty of documentaries with plot twists, suspense, drama, tears etc..

D. T. Nelson

The problem with documentaries is that they don't always lend themselves to reaction videos. They may be interesting, but they don't provide a lot to really react to. There are some, though: Grizzly Man; Man on Wire (then watch the movie based on the Documentary—The Walk); March of the Penguins is a good one; The Deepest breath; Bowling for Columbine. Films that would be intense or emotional in some way. Even better would be to choose well done movies based on true events.

Javier Hernandez

I concede to your point but the ones I pointed out have unique turns that lend to surprise moments, disappointments, and joyful accomplishments. Those elements, I think, would be fun for us to see her reaction. I like based on true story films, but I dislike that many people base their understanding of history on those films. Braveheart for example, lead a lot of viewers to believe that William Wallace was a peasant which isn't true. I think the bigger issue for this channel is staying away from divisive topics. I like Bowling for Columbine but I don't think the 2nd Amendment is a good topic to tackle in the current political climate. I mean, we're all here at PIB for fun, right? All that being said, she should put The Walk on her list because that was a really great slow burn of a film.
