Baseball season is upon us, take me out to the ballgame movie, buy me some peanuts and popcoooorrrnn”

I know i’ve watched a lot of the great ones on the channel and a few before but can’t resist a spring baseball watch!

Comments

WestBound

Has she seen Hardball with Keanu ?

Rosario Cicero

I think she should experience a John Sayles movie at least once

Adam Doyle

For a rom com (which you might have seen) Fever Pitch is cute.

William Brownlee

Pride of the Yankees is a classic that probably has no chance of winning, but you should watch it even if not on the channel. Not a Yankee fan, but the story is true and gripping.

Just Plain Bob

Love “Bad News Bears.” An absolute must watch.

Lyle Morgan

Check out “Everybody Wants Some” someday. The “spiritual sequel” to Dazed and Confused from Linklater, about a college baseball team’s first week of school.

Joe Mallard

I rewatch is beating a great movie like The Rookie. 🤦‍♂️

Bill W

Eight Men Out...been asking for years. I sent you White Sox gear just for the reaction!

Bill Maurer

Pride of the Yankees, but I know it may not win

Jacob Colson

I voted for 61*, but Eight Men Out is a great one too!

Bill W

*** No Rewatches!

Dean Holt

I was just thinking the same great underrated movie

Bill W

I've been suggesting it for years since she watched Field of Dreams, so she can get the rest of the story on Shoeless Joe.

John Liebling

So, we're going with silly ridiculous "Bad Snooze Bears" instead of a classic Lou Gehrig story. All I can say is if enough people recommend "Pride of the Yankees" I think Cassie will give it a try. It certainly is going to fall short in this current poll. In my opinion Pride of the Yankees is by far the best of the bunch.

Johnny

Little Big League belongs on here! Cassie would love it for sure. It kinda flew under the radar it seems, but it's funny, has a heart, and even has some real MLB players like Ken Griffey Jr and Randy Johnson (The Big Unit).

Bill W

Wouldn't really matter. Nostalgia is running away with this poll.

Cole Jennett

When Cassie says she has seen a movie when it came out, she almost certainly remembers nothing about it. It’s basically going to be a first time watch

Clay F

Cassie said she really remembers nothing about Moneyball.

Cole Jennett

She doesn’t remember what it’s even about

Glen Krajca-Radcliffe

For cat and baseball lovers I recommend, Rhubarb, a 1951 movie about a cat who inherits a baseball team. Features a number of recognizable character actors and a great cat.

Shad Kanyak

The baseball season is looong! You could do a few of these. I voted Eight Men Out. Great story and cast. For a TV film, 61* is fantastic too.

Allen W. McDonnell

The Rookie Fer Shore! You can never go wrong with Dennis Quad!

Dean Holt

I know it’s not directly about Baseball but about a guy who plays it. But Brewster's Millions is a fun film with Richard Pryor & John Candy.

Maria Soberanis

Mr. Baseball...Tom Selleck in a baseball uniform. 🤒

Senor Burns

If she didn't find it memorable or enjoyable enough to remember anything about it after her first watch it's hard to get excited about a second watch

equuleustar737

Please consider*61, it's an absolutely beautiful movie.

Farbod

Some underrated baseball movies: The Scout Brewster's Millions Fever Pitch Mr. Destiny (loosely baseball) Talent for the Game

Jonathan Caro

For Walter Matthau…Bad News Bears.

WackyJacky

Dang some great ones on this list.

2-Can

Have you two seen the Abbott & Costello comedy routine’Who’s On First’? It’s a short video on YT, but it occurs to me that you may have never seen it. Maybe the funniest comedy bit ever, it plays continuously on a loop at the museum at the Baseball Hall of Fame. It rightfully belongs on the US citizenship test. If you haven’t seen it, you should make it a baseball doubleheader with the poll winner.

Just Plain Bob

I agree. We need “Piranha”, “Alligator” and “The Howling” put on the agenda, STAT!

Clayton Johnson

RIP Bob Uecker, Your play by play call in the movie "Major League", will be more remembered than your playing days.

Patrick Flanagan

EIGHT MEN OUT would shed more light on the story of Shoeless Joe Jackson and the Chicago Black Sox, featured in FIELD OF DREAMS.

René Ferland

Ah, Mr. Baseball, very typical story but I liked it.

Clarence Newman

Watched that recently. Not a cuddly film, but I think Cassie would love it.

Kevin

I second "Brewster's Millions". John Candy and Richard Pryor plus an interesting plot make a funny feel-good movie.

J

this

Brennan B.

Even if it doesn't win, 61* should definitely be watched

LukeG84

I voted for Trouble with the Curve. Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams. I think Cassie would quite like this movie. Too bad a 50 year movie is going to win instead. 🙄

Walter

Cassie needs more Walter Matthau in her life.

John

There is one called Long Gone(1987) that I remembered being good. Main actor is William Peterson as a baseball coach of a soso team. You might try it on a poll next time, see if anybody else remembers it.

TheSingulatarian

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is right there.

thansen

The original Bad News Bears is my favorite sports movie. It is perfectly politically incorrect, too.

TheSingulatarian

Certainly the most historically important choice there.

John

He d probably agree, considering how he made fun of his career.

JULIE

The Natural!!!

Cole Jennett

I would have voted for it if Moneyball wasn’t an option.

Cole Jennett

If it’s his daughters song, it’s one of many things I love about Moneyball

rtt143

Trouble with the Curve!!

Clay F

I voted Moneyball -- the best movie in the poll. But no reason to even vote. Knew that Bad News Bears would dominate.

Cole Jennett

I want Brewster’s Millions too, but I would never have thought to put it on a baseball poll.

Alex Gorell

Of course the one I have zero interest in is winning in a blowout 🤣

Vlad D

Definitely Bad News Bears. Reminds me of being a kid again. I was the same age as them in the 70's when I was in little league. It's just as I remember it. Our coach didn't drink. He smoked like a chimney though, all through games and practices.

Cole Jennett

Rewatches are good for channel views. It’s not always just about us

thomas king

You need to add Everybody Wants Some with Your man Glen Powell, Bang The Drum Slowly with Robert Deniro, The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings (1976) with Billie Dee Williams and James Earl Jones and Cobb with Tommie Lee Jones, and Long Gone with William Peterson and Dermot Mulroney

Dan M

Can’t believe Eight Men Out is doing so poorly.

Chris Thom

Who/what is it about?

Dan M

Same! 😆

Popcorn In Bed

i’ve seen that one! my brother was obsessed with it

Popcorn In Bed

i’ve seen it spoofed but i don’t think the original!

Anthony Carlson

It’s not, but that song you mentioned is great too!

Dan M

Plus, it’s just a really good movie!

Patrick

I've gotta go 61* here. I'm still waiting for a channel to do an 8 Men Out/Field of Dreams combo reaction. Would be interesting to see a reactor get the backstory immediately followed by the ghost story

Popcorn In Bed

i actually did see that as a teen-balled my eyes out

2-Can

DOUble HEADer -clap, clap, clap-clap-clap! I suggest the version where they are both in suits (from their television show)

pat on

Rookie of the Year

LukeG84

Moneyball is way better than the movie currently winning, but Cassie’s already seen it. Trouble with the Curve is a much easier watch and has a better ending too. It still bugs be Beane turned down that offer.

James M

"Pride of the Yankees" would be great, but I can settle for "Bad News Bears". Honestly I'm just happy for anything pre-2000.

Alex Gorell

Story of my life when it comes to these polls.

Cole Jennett

“Seen” is too strong a word, lol. She had already seen Twister as well. She watched Gladiator 10 years more recently and it was still a great rewatch reaction.

Big Lazy Dragon

You have The Rookie (2002) listed in your Letterbox as a movie you've already watched. You should switch that out with Rookie of the Year (1993).

Big Lazy Dragon

It's not up in her Letterbox. Either the Letterbox is out of date or she actually hasn't seen it yet.

Starpartyguy

Few people will probably vote for Pride of the Yankees. But it’s a true story about a great talent of a man facing mortality. And Gary Cooper was bigger than life!

LukeG84

Fair point. It’s a moot though. Neither movie will win this poll.

Cole Jennett

She said in the butter tier live tonight that she mistook it with Rookie of the Year which is the one she has seen, not The Rookie.

Dave

Letterbox is out of date

Cliff Adams

Pride of the Yankees for the great Teresa Wright.

Bill W

Either way, I would vote for neglected gem Little Big League over both of them. Overlooked upon release with very little promotion. Sweet, fun story...and the quality of game-action baseball is really good. It was shot during a strike year so they had access to a few ball parks as well as real active major leaguers. (Griffey Jr, Randy Johnson, Frank Thomas). Everyone played college level or higher. Also, there's a Field of Dreams tie-in: Timothy Busfield (who plays Costners brother in law in FOD) is one of the lead characters.

Bill W

Tell me about it. Eight Men Out seems to be cursed in the reactorverse.

MAV293 (MARK)

"42" about the great Jackie Robinson with a stellar performance by Chadwick Boseman is also a great film.

Bill W

It would be my first choice, but you can't compete with nostalgia.

Dave

Already on the channel

MAV293 (MARK)

Thank You, I should have checked first.

Chris Thom

Always have kind of a tough time thinking up baseball movies for some reason. Maybe not my favorite genre. But Moneyball always springs to mind first. Partly because my first MLB games were all A's at the colosseum. So I guess I'll vote for that. But all in all it's just a quality, well-made film about professional sports. Written by Aaron Sorkin, one of my favorites in the business.

Chris Thom

THANK YOU. Rookie of the Year was exactly the one I was trying to remember.

Chris Thom

Kinda par for the course.

Rob

I've only seen 4 of the movies listed, but Moneyball is the best baseball movie I've seen. Pride of the Yankees, The Rookie, and Trouble with the Curve are all definitely worth a look.

Bill W

I'd vote for several others ahead of BNB, but being 50 years old doesn't make it a lesser movie. Personally, I'm against re-watches even if the first watch was off the channel.

Clay F

Going against nostalgia is an uphill battle.

Clay F

Perfectly said. Nostalgia is strong.

Anthony Carlson

How do you feel about Oakland’s first season without the A’s?

Sean Barbante

Eight Men Out was my choice for the last Pick-a-Flick, and it's also my monthly pick for another reaction channel. It doesn't look like it's going to win this poll, but since it was a choice my hope is alive that we'll get a reaction for this film someday.

Sean Barbante

Little Big League has some of the most realistic in-game action of any baseball movie.

Clay F

In 1976, I was 12 when I saw Bad News Bears in the theater. Yet, even with that nostalgia, I voted MONEYBALL (2011) [nominated for 6 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor (Brad Pitt), Best Supporting Actor (Jonah Hill)]. Moneyball (2011) = stunning move, great story. I've watched The Rookie (2002) a few times and like that.

Bill W

I preferred Little Big League (1994). It featured Kevin Costners brother in law from Field Of Dreams (Timothy Busfield). He actually played college level baseball.

Bill W

I've been suggesting it every spring and every October since she watched Field of Dreams. Even sent her a Sox jersey for the reaction.

Patrick Flanagan

That one's not streaming anywhere unfortunately. There's a crappy VHS upload somewhere on YouTube but that seems to be it.

Chris Thom

Been a real bummer for Oakland these past years for sure. I remember Conseco, McGwire, and Henderson being big stars. Good times.

Chris Thom

Oh cool. I remember seeing it at the video store all the time but I never picked it up.

Randy Schuh

Pride of the Yankees is by far one of the best baseball movies ever made. Even if it doesn't win the poll it still is a must see movie.

Chris Thom

Why I think it's definitely time for Forrest Gump.

Chris Thom

Was nice seeing him in JFK the other night.

Cole Jennett

That’s fine if you are against it, but it would be good for the channel

Cole Jennett

And Good Will Hunting, Avatar, etc.

Bill W

Yes! Did you guys see that youtube video evaluating all the baseball films since 1984? I think LBL ranked the highest based on caliber of play in the movie. All players/actors college level or higher. No special effects or camera tricks, etc.

Anthony Carlson

Oakland had their moments in baseball history. Even with the A’s no longer in Oakland, cherish every memory you have with them. If my Tigers ever move away, my memories of them will never go away.

Chris Thom

My dad was more pissed about the Raiders to be honest. He grew up in East Bay. Sis is in SF. I'm like two hours from all of it. lol

Bill W

At this point I don't believe Cassie is concerned with youtube views. She has over 3,000 PAYING patreon members. If she wants to pick a random movie to react to without it going on a poll or whatever, that's fine. But for it to be a re-watch is a little insulting. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of us clamoring to get our favorite movies watched. That makes each reaction slot kind of valuable. Moneyball had its chance already.

Chris Thom

Oh man the nostalgia connected to that one. Think that came out right before I started little league.

Anthony Carlson

If you ask me, the Raiders should never came back to Oakland. They came back to only leave again.

Bill W

"I love it when they call me Big Pa- pa" filmed in Chicago! (except for the game at Tigers Stadium)

LukeG84

Bill W: It does in my eyes. There’s only a handful of movies I like that are older than me, and The Bad News Bears sure as s*** isn’t one of them.

Larry Darrell

Recommendation for another baseball day… The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings (1976)… starring James Earl Jones, Richard Pryor and Billy Dee Williams.

Thoko

Why isn't BASEKetball on this poll? The sport in that movie an improved form of Baseball

YodatheHobbit

No Rookie of the Year? Awwww. Maybe Cassie already watched it before the channel.

Johnny

I haven't watched that video, but I'm going to check it out. I think the only thing I don't like about Little Big League, is the movie poster/dvd cover. It makes it seem like there's a little annoying brat kid clashing with umpires or whatever, but the fact is he's very thoughtful and intelligent, and the movie is nothing like what the poster implies.

Joshua s. Jackson

How about "A League Of Their Own" stars Jena Davis, I think you'd like that one.

Cole Jennett

What if Moneyball is someone’s favourite movie that they want to see her react to? It was pre-channel so no one has had that privilege.

Vincent

Bad News Bears Mr. Baseball Damn Yankees! (not on the list)

Jens Kristensen

Tough choice - I have to say "Trouble With The Curve", - brilliant and moving film - of course a baseball flick, but also a father-daughter connection-drama and dealing with the past versus the present - I always thought of baseball films having their own mythology - both as a sport but also the stories surrounding it - ...

Clarence Newman

Not a poll for me this one, but good luck to all the baseball fans. I loved Major League, 42, League of their Own and For Love of the Game in particular, but apart from Moneyball, I haven't seen any of these. I'll leave it to the ringers.

Clarence Newman

I'm mostly with Cole on this one. The only reason the likes of Unstoppable, Cast Away, Warrior and The Holiday are not on my wish list is because Cassie's already seen them off-channel. I would love to see her do the occasional rewatch, especially with Carly if Carly hasn't seen it. It's a real good point about all the requests that are stacked a mile high for movies she hasn't watched yet, but it's her reactions I'm here for. As long as rewatches are just an occasional thing, we could be in for some real gems.

Dean Holt

I think she’s seen it.

Dean Holt

Just reminds me of Rain Man lol. Which she’s watched on the channel if you’ve not seen the reaction.

Dean Holt

You’ve also seen it in Rain Man. It’s what he quotes all the time when he’s a bit stressed.

Mike Lemon

I've tried to get I'm Not Rappaport (1996) some love on the channel, but no success.

Gary Granata

Pride of the Yankees is the best of this list.

Shehab Dawoud

I would’ve thought we had plenty of baseball movies on the channel already, but whatever. I’m still hoping for a Basketball movie poll. I mean, it would only be fitting with March Madness and the NBA playoffs starting soon.

Gideon Danielson

I'm sadly skipping this vote, don't really get why we need even more baseball movies on the channel I'd pick Moneyball if she hadn't already seen it since it's at least something different. Also seconding everyone else suggesting different sports instead of baseball.

Gary Granata

Pride of the Yankees is the story of Lou Gehrig who the deadly ALS disease is named after. It's a love story and you get to see Babe Ruth the greatest baseball player ever. Plus it has most iconic sports speech ever made.

Keith Brown

Wow ! Why lots of no love for baseball movies ? There are dozens of great fictional and true stories to pick from ! There is only one basketball I can watch - "Hoosiers" !

Mark White

Is it bad I haven’t seen any of these movies?! Not really poll for me. Hope the best movie wins.

Clay F

She's seen it.

Clay F

Yep, she's seen it.

bknsty14

As a White Sox fan, I have to go with Eight Men Out. Great story. Great cast. Second lowest point in White Sox history, after last season.

Robert McEvoy

Don't dare call "Bad News Bears" crummy! It is a classic, especially if you saw it as a youngster when it came out.

Robert McEvoy

How about the original "Angels In the Outfield" from 1951?

Kevin Albertina

I wanted to just say all of them. They all have their charm and strong points. Baseball has probably been best represented in film (followed by boxing). I went with "Bad News Bears" which I saw in a theater when it first came out (yes I'm that old) and because I remember little league baseball. But I really hate not voting for some of the others.

Ted Little

Angels in the Outfield (1951) is a lovely, charming film and it is a crime it was not on this poll.

Mike Carey

Glad you decided to do a baseball poll! Tough one to choose though! I could vote for at least 4 of these plus several that are not listed including Bingo Long and Soul of the game!

Richard Maurer

JPB - The Howling should go first on that list imo. But Alligator and Piranha are pretty solid choices too, and that’s saying a lot for me as I usually hate killer animal movies.

Clarence Newman

I'm sure you're already considering it (it would be very sportist to only have a baseball poll), but here's my shot at a general sports poll: The Hustler (1961) Paul Newman, Pool The Cincinnati Kid (1965) Steve McQueen, Poker The Great Race (1965) Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, New York to Paris race Enter The Dragon (1973) Bruce Lee, Kung Fu tournament The Longest Yard (1974) Burt Reynolds, American Football The Champ (1979) Jon Voight, Boxing Over The Top (1987) Sylvester Stallone, Arm Wrestling World's Fastest Indian (2003) Anthony Hopkins, Motorbike Land Speed Record attempt

Richard Maurer

Not much of a baseballl fan, haven’t seen most of these, and Cassie’s already seen most of the baseball movies I care about anyway. It was between Bad News Bears and Pride of the Yankees for me, and as usual the B&W film has no shot, so BNB it is.

Don

Hard to pick one. I don't think any are crummy, although admittedly I haven't seen all of them. I was hoping for Major League. BNB got my vote.

Nolofinwe

This is impossible ! There is no doubt Cassie would love" Trouble with the Curve" more than any of the others its right up her alley . and it's a great movie that's why I'm voting for it . eight men out , 61 , are great also , Moneyballs a little inside with analynics great also . The bad news bear bears everybody loves it it's a kids movie

Katie Jackson

I'm think it's on the channel. I know she's seen it

JULIE

Oh sorry! Need to find it!

Clarence Newman

Major League is one of Cassie's best reactions. Pure joy!

John Cranberry

The Perfect Game is so underrated. EMO is a good movie also.

Eric Parpart

Question- do people vote for their favorite movie or for the one they think Cassie will enjoy? In my opinion there is no way Cassie enjoys Bad News Bears. Too dated and crude.

Ted Whalen

I would add to the list Breaking Away, The Boys in the Boat, Race, Brian Song, and North Dallas Forty (this one maybe a little too crude).

Clarence Newman

She saw that a million times growing up apparently. She's always referencing it when she talks about sports movies.

Jason Weiner

By this list it would appear as though you've already seen ALL the decent Baseball movies as these are NOT really worth your viewing time!

Silver Machine

Eight Men Out is the best of the bunch: true story, great cast, well-directed. And it tells the story of Shoeless Joe, whom we’ve met before as a ghost in Field of Dreams. I think Cassie would really appreciate and enjoy this film.

Ted Whalen

I am a pretty big baseball fan and I think there are a number of good movies on the list (Eight Men Out, The Pride of the Yankees, 61*, Moneyball).

Clarence Newman

In response to a message below mentioning the film, Cassie said...."Saving it." For what and how long, we can only guess.

Art of Free Speech

Why not "The Color of Money" with Tom Cruise and Paul Newman? Or did you just want her to watch The Hustler first?

Clarence Newman

You know what, Art, The Color of Money is the one I REALLY want her to watch - Paul Newman and Tom Cruise and all that - but ideally she should go through The Hustler first.

Kristen

Yes! Breaking Away is one of my all time favorite movies.

Don

Oops! Didn't realize she's already done it. I'll have to look for it. Thanks.

Kristen

Steeeeeve Perry!

Mike Lemon

For me- variety first, second- variety, third- a movie I like and I think Cassie would like and/or appreciate.

Mike Lemon

Soul Surfer (2011). Carly said she has seen it, but I don't know if Cassie has.

Chris B.

I have a simple rule for this kind of poll: I see Mr. baseball in the list, I vote for that, nothing but. Probably never wins out against other baseball movies, but I love that one all the same

Bill W

haha yeah I'm not sure what she meant. 😀 And THIS Joe Jackson actually has a southern accent and bats left handed!

Mike Lemon

@Cole- what if someone's favorite show is Naruto and wants her to watch all 721 episodes? There have to be rules or nothing moves forward. Remember, the point was to wach *movies* she hasn't seen and expand her horizons. Once you let one rewatch in, what stops the other thousands of movies she's seen? We have already had a taste of breaking the rules with Trek. It was already understood- no long series, but maybe a few episodes of TOS, then just four of TNG, then it's about 1/4 of all watches for a year... Now with yesterday's live, I'm guessing 30 episodes of Picard are coming in the next few months. All the while forgetting that original goal.

Sarah Jane

Have you already seen BULL DURHAM? That's an incredible baseball movie, and it's on a few Top 100-200 films lists. And it stars Kevin Costner. I came here expecting to find it and vote for it!

Bill W

I believe most people vote for what THEY like despite Cassie's known preferences, and nostalgia goes a long way.

Bill W

She does "scary" movies every Halloween, Christmas movies every Christmas.. why not a baseball movie or two every baseball season? My only gripe is she should do basketball movies now and hockey movies next month before she does baseball movies.

Bill W

Agree. Basektball now. Hockey next month.. THEN baseball.

Above Average Dave

BAD NEWS BEARS remains a near documentary of a slice of my pre-teen GEN X life when baseball was everything in the summer and Little League was your very first true merit-based integration experience. These were the days before participation trophies and we were all brutal toward each other, yet, oddly, also supportive of our friends and teammates. It was also my introduction to team sports where you learned very quickly that race, religion and other current identifiers didn't matter. These guys were your teammates. Football ended up being the ultimate of this for me with it's basically philosophy of, "You don't have to be the best at your position, just do your job on every play. If everyone does their job for 4-6seconds at a time (the length of the play), we all win."

Just Plain Bob

I was on a baseball team when this movie came out and about the same age as the characters in the movie. I’m not exaggerating to say I may have been the worst baseball player that ever lived. But that didn’t stop me from connecting with the characters and loving this movie.

My_Cousin_Mose

I avoid picking movies I think Cassie will really dislike but I'm certainly not going to pick a movie that I dislike even if Cassie would probably prefer it.

Blake Evans

Even though it’s a rewatch I gotta go with Moneyball. Only because I believe it’s a secret sequel to The Sandlot. The owner of the Red Sox at the end is the same actor that played grown up Smalls in the announcing booth. Smalls just grew up and loved baseball so much he ended up buying the Red Sox then all the Sandlot guys got in free for life!

Bill W

Anyone know what movies are lined up for this week?

Richard Maurer

I vote the movies I like best. No other considerations needed. Besides Cassie has proven the people who THINK they know what Cassie will like wrong on so many occasions. If we listen to them, we will end up with a “safe” (boring) channel full of rom-coms and borderline children’s movies. Also, Cassie can not like a movie and still have a interesting reaction to it. Her not liking a movie is not a big deal.

MikeLL

Colateral and Rise of the Planet of the Apes both seems to be in the mix.

Stranger2Reality

Fully agreed on The Howling. I'm also a big fan of Breaking In from 1989 with Burt Reynolds and Casey Siemaszko. Great little movie about a couple of small time thieves. I was really hoping Eight Men Out was gonna win this, but I knew it stood no chance. Hopefully someday.

Bill W

Collateral! ok that crosses another Tom Cruise movie off the list. Still quite a few left. I forgot about all the Ape reboots.

Stranger2Reality

Let's not forget his hit TV show Mr. Belvedere.

Stranger2Reality

Eight Men Out is such a fantastic movie. I've seen it many times and it never gets old. Just an absolutely phenomenal cast and great writing.

Stranger2Reality

*61 is great. It's about the home run race and when Roger Maris ended up setting the record, but it's very much about both of those players, with Mickey Mantle's inner demons and Maris trying to endure the near torture from Yankee fans and the NY press while he's trying to help the team win with his historic season. A really good drama, no doubt.

Cole Jennett

I vote based on what I think she will enjoy first and foremost. It just doesn’t hurt that those are also the movies I enjoy. There are instances where I will vote for the movie I think she needs to see, but may not enjoy, like Sleepers

Joe J

She's caught up on everything for now. She probably will watch "Collateral" this week...that's all I got, Lol.

Beddoe

I vote for the movie I most want to see a reaction to. I hope she likes it but if she does not I'm confident that she will still find something nice to say about it.

Javier Hernandez

You have boys and you haven't seen The Bad News Bears? Next you'll tell me that you haven't seen The Sandlot. (sad emoji) Also there is: The Bad News Bears Breaking Training 1977 The Bad News Bears Go to Japan 1978 The Bad News Bears (reboot) 2005

Clarence Newman

I still have PTSD over Officer and a Gentleman. 🥹

Clarence Newman

I enjoyed The Taking of Pelham One, but Two and Three were lame.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - I thought about mentioning that as a film many people thought she would like, but she didn’t. I didn’t want to give you nightmares so I stopped myself from doing so.

Clarence Newman

One of Cassie’s best - “Suck it!” 😆

Clarence Newman

Worry not, Mike. Most Trek fans just want her to watch season 3. That would be only 10 episodes and 5 slots.

Richard Maurer

She was complaining about having low views on YT lately. Say what you will about the new PotA series, they will correct that low view problem for awhile

Tim C

Seen Bad News Bears as a kid at the thearte definitely a reflection of 70s as a kid.Walter Mathew I believe the Couch.Definately wouldn't be my Pick .Trouble with a Curve is a Good Movie the often turbulent relationship with his grown daughter and a typical Grotchety Old Clint. Is a really good movie and a sub plot that Cassie would enjoy.

Mark T

Low views happen across many genres; you can't blame PotA. There have been about 10 reactions in the last 3 months alone that have lower views than the original series PotA and in various genres. Actually, I think the OG PotA has performed about expected, if not better than expected, considering the age and genre. There are a lot of factors that go into views, and it's not always easy to predict what will get the most views. I agree the reboots will probably fare a bit better on views, but I don't think they'll be record-breakers, either.

DAVID COSTELLO

I figured she'd like Pride of the Yankees because it's a true story and Teresa Wright (that she loved from The Best Years of Our Lives) is one of the stars.

Clarence Newman

A nightmare that never ends. And here’s another one! I realised yesterday that Horror of Dracula is in the 1001 Movies You Must Watch Before You Die!!! (Cannonball Run however….)

Cole Jennett

She didn’t enjoy it as much as I was expecting but, as a guy, I kind of glossed over the infidelity and I can see why she wasn’t as enamoured with Jake as we all probably were.

Clay F

No, I think she has seen Sandlot. I thought Billy Bob Thorton was cast well for the reboot, but the reboot doesn't seem to have the magic of the original. IMDb 7.3, Metacritic 84%, RT 97%, RT Audience 80% -- BNB (1976) IMDb 5.8, Metacritic 65%, RT 48%, RT Audience 46% -- BNB (2005)

Clay F

Her only 2 YT videos that premiered in the last 45 days or so with decent views are PotA 1968 and Sicario,

Richard Maurer

Take the 1 off the end of 1001, then it would be correct.

Clay F

She may give this poll another chance in the future but without the candidate (BNB) thick in nostalgia.

Clay F

Yep, too dated and crude (vulgar). I doubt she likes it. She said in the Extra Butter live that she prefer it not win the poll.

Clay F

Glad to see you have one from this century.

Clay F

She said in the Extra Butter live that she remembers essentially nothing about Moneyball. I think Moneyball would be a great reaction, much better than BNB.

Clay F

She said in the Extra Butter live that she remembers essentially nothing about Moneyball. I think Moneyball would be a great reaction, much better than BNB. She also indicated in the live that she preferred that BNB not win the poll. MONEYBALL (2011) (one of my favorite Brad Pitt movies). Nominated for 6 Oscars including: --Best Picture --Best Actor (Brad Pitt) --Best Supporting Actor (Jonah Hill) I watched BNB in theater when released in 1976, and I played Little League baseball and helped coach Little League baseball. But that nostalgia is not enough.

Clay F

What did you think about Moneyball? You could vote Moneyball. She said in the Extra Butter Live last night that she remembers essentially nothing about Moneyball. Nominated for Oscar for Best Picture. Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill nominated for Oscars.

Clarence Newman

Not my fault, Clay. All other 21st century sports movies are ka-ka.

Clarence Newman

I liked it, but not enough to want a rewatch.

Erik Locquiao

Fair, at least she saw that in her childhood as it should be seen

TheSingulatarian

I'm interested what she thinks of "Magnolia".

TheSingulatarian

The only thing I remember about "Breaking Away" is they movie theaters played the trailer incessantly for months before the movie came out. Not really the type of movie I was interest in as a kid anyway, but I came to hate it. I must have seen that trailer 50 times.

TheSingulatarian

She likes sports movies. That is why I want her to watch the original "Rollerball". The gets a twofer with a sci-fi and a sports movie in one.

TheSingulatarian

How about "Orgazmo" that would blow her mind.

Clarence Newman

She loved it, Cole! How pumped was she during the final game??!

Bill W

What does 'premier' mean, within the first 24 hours?

Larry Darrell

Another Baseball film recommendation for another day… The Stratton Story (1949)… biographical film about Chicago White Sox pitcher from 1934 to 1938, Monty Stratton… starring James Stewart, June Allyson and Frank Morgan. Monty Stratton is a name you don’t hear that often anymore, and that’s unfortunate. His story is pretty incredible. I’m sure Cassie would love it. Just something to keep in mind, along with the other Chicago White Sox film that should be winning the poll… Eight Men Out. Let's Go, Go-Go White Sox!!

Above Average Dave

MONEYBALL is a great movie with Brad Pitt shining every time he's on the screeen, and it's an even better book. However, in service the easiest concept of the book MoneyBall—valuing OBP (on base percentage) over the traditional stat of batting average; or more specifically from a sports and business perspective, maximizing under valued assets—it completely ignores that Oakland had 3 aces that year. Hudson and Mulder, who both received significant numers of Cy Young Award votes, and a third Zito, who actually got league MVP votes. That's like doing a movie on the Patriots' years of success but skipping the Tom Brady part—not everything, but a very big thing. Still, a good movie and a fun watch, but it wouldn't have been hard to work in how their pitching philosophy complemented their offensive philosophy. And they would've never won 20 in a row without those three guys (and the pen built on a similar philosophy).

2-Can

That’s a great suggestion. Should definitely be on the list.

Canadianant

Bad news bears is a true slice of 70s America. Just like the real 70s its not sanitized, there are moments of some characters who don't do the right thing and it's not always pleasant. That having been said the it plays out more like a documentary than a film. No those characters really exist it doesn't feel like anyone in it is acting. Those feel like real 70s kids It also sets the template for alot of what you see in later sports movies. Both Walter Matthau as butter maker and Tatum o Neal as Amanda are excellent. I voted for it because I believe it's a great movie. I hope Cassie sees that it is more than just a by the book kids sports movie and can see past it's rough spots. There is some real heart at times in it. I think it's an important movie in its own right and obviously it is winning the poll by a large margin. If Cassie wants to add Moneyball or one of the runner ups as a ppotmonth watch then I suspect she will enjoy it.

Bill W

The list of movies that won't win a poll? 🤣

Cole Jennett

She was into it, but have you ever heard her bring it up? It’s almost an after thought for her. Don’t take this as me not loving it, it’s easily a top 3 sports movie, and far better than The Replacements in my eyes, but it’s certainly not one of her favourites. If I remember correctly she put it in the B tier on one of her rankings.

Bill W

Her kids are only like 8 or 9 years old. Cassie herself is decades removed from BNB. I'm not surprised at all she hasn't seen it. She has seen Sandlot. She said it was her brother's favorite movie.

Arturo

Did she saw The Sandlot (1993) ?

David Livingston

It doesn't look like it's getting much love here, but I definitely recommend "Mr. Baseball"!!!! I don't want to give anything away (especially if you have never seen it), but it is a GREAT baseball movie, in my opinion!!!! There are many little lessons in the movie. An underrated classic in my mind! And Tom Selleck was perfect for the role!!

Bill W

🚩 But she doesn't do an actual "Premier" for every movie right? Some just get uploaded. So in that case, does 'premier' mean- within 24 hours of its initial upload? Or only within the run time of the video from its initial upload (like 35-55 minutes)?

Clay F

This poll is baseball because it coincides with the start of baseball season.

Richard Maurer

The new PotA should do at least between 100k and 200k, maybe even higher. She probably would have done better if she wasn’t pretty much the last big name reactor to get to them. Despite what some people tell you, movie fatigue is a real thing in the reactorverse. I know it is for me (and Mike Lemon) anyway.

Gro Do

BNB... Great movie. The character Tanner...lol. Im sure he's a good kid but boy, oh boy... his dad must be quite the bigot.

Richard Maurer

Some baseball movies make it more interesting than it really is by cutting out the boring parts. If Baseball was like it is in the movies I’d watch it a lot more often.

Chris Thom

Yeah I think she's brought it up a few times. She's actually seen some of the best baseball movies already, but these are the ones she has left.

Alex M

If BNB gets it I’m okay with that, but I’d really love for Cassie (and Carly) to watch Eight Men Out. It’s one of my favorites and checks at least two of their boxes: a sports movie and a true story, this one about the White Sox scandal during the 1919 World Series. John Cusack and Charlie Sheen are the biggest names but really it’s a character driven film with a large ensemble cast made up of numerous talented young actors such as Michael Rooker, D.B. Sweeney and Don Harvey just to name a few.

Patrick

Please don't start a Planet of the Apes sequels style reaction binge of Bad News Bears.... SMH lol

Art of Free Speech

Clarence, I wouldn't go so far as to say ALL 21st century sports movies are garbage. MacFarland USA is really good, if a bit formulaic. Still, it's a true story, and just gives all the feels by the end. Coach Carter, We Are Marshall, and Glory Road are all pretty good as well. Friday Night Lights isn't too bad, either.

Chris Thom

There's some funny footage of Matt and Trey on acid at the Oscars.

Javier Hernandez

Bill, Yes BNB is an older film but certainly kids still watch movies with kids in them. I mean, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Little Rascals, Pete's Dragon, Our Gang were all before my time but I remember seeing them as a child. I just think BNB is up there with Sandlot or Little Giants as movies most kids see in those tween years. But hey, maybe I'm wrong as there is no shortage of new content out there and it is so accessible.

Doug Fisher

I agree 100% Love "Mr. Baseball"! Unfortunately this is one of the many downsides to polls, people vote what they know and are sheeple for the most part. So, if a movie is a little off the beaten path, it terms of "popularity", it has no chance. Sad too because I know it would be a movie that Cass and Carly would LOVE. Anyway, it got my vote at least. :)

Doug Fisher

Me too! It got my only vote.

Doug Fisher

I am going to have to disagree with you on that. "Mr. Baseball" is a great movie. One that the girls would love to boot.

Doug Fisher

Not bad... just missing out on some really good movies. I would check out "Mr. Baseball" as it works if you are or are not a baseball fan.

Bill W

Mine too. To name a few more... David Strathairn, Christopher Lloyd and John Mahoney!

Doug Fisher

Hey Clarence. I would give "Mr. Baseball" a watch. It is pretty much an amalgamation of all those ones you loved. It won't win the pole as it is from the early 90's and most people haven't seen it.

Astraeos

The Rookie is so underrated, and fantastic. Runner up watch?

Anthony Carlson

Off topic: Val Kilmer has passed away. So long Iceman…

Clay F

Top 3 Bad News Bears (1976) -- 29% The Rookie (2002) -- 16% Moneyball (2011) -- 13%

Clarence Newman

No, but she rarely brings up Lord of the Rings or Cinderella Man these days either. She watches so many movies that the old ones fade in her mind. I think it’s more accurate to say that it’s one of MY favourites because Cassie is so engaged and clearly loved the experience of watching it.

Clarence Newman

Tom Selleck, right? I’ve been seeing comments about that one, so I might give it a go.

Clarence Newman

And as for her dropping the movie into the B tier, she definitely penalised Jake for his infidelity there.

Clarence Newman

If Cassie ever gets worried about YT views, she’s always got the likes of Scarface, The Fly, Blair Witch and Wolf of Wall Street up her sleeve.

Clarence Newman

Bill W. The popularity of a reaction is initially gauged by the first 24 hours viewing figure. You have to wait a while after that to see its true worth. Kind of like a movie’s opening weekend at the cinema really. Of course, if it comes out of the gates unusually fast, that gets noticed too.

Rose

Oooo…. 61* not getting much love *..^ my niece got accepted to BU for her grad studies and I’m tagging along this weekend to see a game at Fenway and checkout the campus. I have a coworker who’s from Boston and I just love her accent. I still remember watching a game at the original Yankee stadium during my high school trip but Fenway is going to be epic.

Rose

My grandma passed on April 1, 2002. This is such a sad day.

Anthony Carlson

Have fun. I only wish the old Tiger Stadium was still around… And BU hockey is going to the Frozen Four for the 25th time.

Rose

D.B. is famous for “toe pick” and Shoeless Joe Jackson. I’d really love for her & Carly to see “Eight Men Out,” too.

David Livingston

I'm sure they'll watch it eventually. They look at the comments and go with recommendations too. If a movie gets popular comments but not the votes, they take note and will often watch that movie as well. 🙂🙂

Rose

“The Pride of the Yankees” (1943). Definitely not on Cassie’s radar but just putting it out there.

Anthony Carlson

Tom spent time with the Tigers in 91 to prepare for Mr. Baseball.

Rose

Poor Oakland … no sports team left

Rose

Thx! Wow 25th..I wished we could have squeezed a Bruins game, too, because I love hockey.

Bill W

Rose, that reminds me- there's another tie-in. FOD features Joe Jackson, DB Sweeney plays Jackson in EMO. The actor who plays Costner's father in FOD also plays Kate's fiance in The Cutting Edge. In fact FOD has connections to other baseball movies. James Earl Jones and Art Lafluer (Sox 1B in FOD) were also in The Sandlot together. And Costner's brother in law (Timothy Busfield) played an all-star 1B in the movie Little Big League.

Mike Lemon

Nice clip. It reminds me of a discussion I heard on the radio, if an average guy, no college baseball experience, faced an MLB pitcher who was really trying, could he get a hit in 100 pitches?

Anthony Carlson

@Mike Lemon Tom did have training learning how to hit. He spent time training with the Tigers in 91 while preparing for filming Mr. Baseball.

Anthony Carlson

To answer your question, with no experience against a MLB pitcher, because of how little milliseconds you have to react to a pitch, almost impossible. If you can’t see the spin, the hand tipping, etc., you’re not going to do too well.

Ty Kellington

Mr Baseball is such an underated gem. Actually surprised it even made a poll I think it is so obscure. It won't win (shame) but for anyone who likes baseball or just sports movies in general you owe it to yourself to watch it.

Randy Schuh

Pride of the Yankees and The Stratton Story are my top two baseball movies. Sad that most people haven't seen them because they are older movies. Cassie would absolutely love both movies since both have a lot of romance.

Mike Lemon

That was pretty much the consensus but the counter was the blind luck argument. Swing 100 times, there is a good chance of connecting with something. I like to think I could get a hit, but the reality is likely different.

TheSingulatarian

Time to watch "Top Secret" Val's 1st movie and a very funny one.

Joe J

PIB is in it's 5th year. The new normal for YT views will be lower than previous years, this is normal and too be expected. There's no longer what seemed like an endless supply of popular recent movies Cassie can watch week in and week out anymore.

Richard Maurer

Cassie mentioned the low YT views that her videos have been getting lately. Don’t expect any b&w movies for a while, unless one wins pick-a-flick.

Richard Maurer

Joe - agree, but I also expect her to be looking for whatever things that are left that are likely to do better than average views, thing like the new PotA.

Larry Darrell

She should just take a month and knock out a bunch of Top 50 or Top 25. Or run through the whole Top 10. Remember when TV used have Sweeps Week.

Richard Maurer

I’m for running through the top ten, if for no other reason than to move the rest of the movies up.

Chris Thom

Think Fenway is now the oldest stadium still in use in the country.

Joe J

Agree Richard. She wants to watch "Man of Steel" soon. Also, I thought she had watched "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League", but these are not listed on her Letterbox. These would get excellent views.

Bill W

Clarence- thank you. That's what I figured. I'm also guessing that a movie that doesn't currently have any reactions on Youtube might be slower to gain views because there's no algorithm for it yet.

Larry Darrell

Definitely. That should be something she does once a year. Or if not all at once, make a plan to get the Top 10 watched over the course of a year, and repeat. But I like the idea of watching the Top 10 one after another. Sweeps Month! Once a year the channel gets an adrenaline boost.

Rob

In the next baseball poll, be sure to include It Happens Every Spring, starring Ray Milland. Comedy gold from 1949.

Joe Mallard

Angels in the Outfield and Rookie of the Year are classics 90's baseball movies.

Lamar Smith

Man oh man, Precious Cassie, seriously NO wrong picks here! The race is led by a movie, I absolutely agree, you’ll identify with, love and, for your portfolio NEED to see….. However, I cast my vote for ‘Million Dollar Arm.’ REAL heartwarming tale that you’ll 100% get behind and love

Lamar Smith

Well, I saw an interview from, the actor’s name escapes me, red-haired fellow….. in the baseball movie where a kid manages the team…. Timothy Busfield, just hit me, he comes up to bat against Randy ‘The Big Unit’ ‘wanna see what happens when a 100+ mph fastball hits a pigeon, find it on YT’ Johnson….. Busfield goes, “Randy tried to slow it down enough for me to hit it….. had to bring in another guy, closer in, essentially chucking right where I could hit it.” I’d offer that for context.

John Deardurff

My favorite genre! Five are true-ish stories (Eight Men Out, The Rookie, Pride of the Yankees, 61*, and Million Dollar Arm). Moneyball and Trouble with the Curve are newer classics. Bad News Bears is a 70's classic (Trigger Warning). But, for Cassie and Carly I would vote for Mr. Baseball as it is a Rom-Com sports movie with Tom Selleck.

Kal Zakath

Fenway Park is such a National Treasure. Used to go up there all the time, and there's no feeling quite like coming up the stairs along the 1B line and seeing the Green Monster reveal itself to you.

Alex M

First rate actors. I particularly like David Strathairn, an actor’s actor to me.

Brennan B.

Barry Pepper and Thomas Jane really nail it. Fun fact - Thomas Jane had never played baseball before, so they had to teach him the game and he actually learned Mantle's swing. Not a bad swing to have

David C. Krapf

The Rookie, Moneyball, and 61* in that order.

RandyCC

Has Cassie reacted to "A League of Their Own?" If so, I haven't found it. Surprised it isn't being mentioned, so I'll do it.... A League of Their Own!

Patrick Switzer

I have Moneyball on DVD. I've seen Pride Of The Yankees
