Hey butter lovers!

Happy Hump Day! Womp Womp. Hope your week is going well, we’re halfway to the weekend guys, we can do this. Remember in the last update I said I was having weird symptoms-well turned out to be shingles-in my mouth and nose. My face was going numb and it was weird and gross and freaky but thanks goodness the antibiotics are working quickly! What in the heck?? am i right?!

I was so sad to hear about Val Kilmers passing yesterday. I hope he is no longer in pain and his family has peace. I first met him in Topgun as Iceman, fell in love with him as Doc Holladay in Tombstone, feared him properly in Heat, wanted to marry him in The Ghost and the Darkness and sealed my adoration for him in Kiss Kiss Bang. Gay Perry forever! What am I missing from his filmography? Rip Doc ❤️❤️❤️

This week we have our first Reboot Apes woohoo, Tom Cruise silver fox? and the Baseball Poll winner (Bad News Bears) Get your crackerjacks ready!

On YT we have our other two cortroom movies and Monty Python—-Insurance, Deception and Madness oh my.

Our movie madness is down to our final four-the games will be Saturday and the finals Monday! Gattaca vs. Blazing Saddles and Leon the Professional vs. Cape Fear! Dun Dun Dddduuuunnnn!! I will definitely be watching the top 2. I want to have a wildcard poll as well with our poor eliminates.

We will also have a package opening party LIVE on 4/26! Come one come all!

Pick a Flick drawing will be on Friday! Can’t! wait!

Thanks for all you do, your support and patience and kindness. Love you to the moon made of popcorn and back l❤️

Shingles is scary, hope you’re feeling better.

Erik Locquiao

Collateral is severely underrated, as is the dynamic gun action. Tom Cruise was John Wick in it before John Wick.

James Turcotte

The Doors. See Val turn into Jim Morrison. ...and Meg Ryan as his girlfriend.

WestBound

Wait are we really skipping Mark Wahlbergs Planet of the Apes ?.??

Philip Alan

I hope not. I think she said she'd either watch before the new ones or after. I'm hoping AFTER!

Philip Alan

Remember, after you watch the new Planet Of The Apes, give Tim Burton's Planet Of The Apes a try! I really think you'd enjoy the performances of some of the huge celebs as apes! The make-up is incredible, IMO.

John Drake

Cruise is more silver wolf than fox in Collateral, great flick.

ROBERT CLARK

Val Kilmer also played Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Forever

Just Plain Bob

Val Kilmer is must-see in “Real Genius.”

Ted Whalen

Yikes….. the Shingles is not fun at all. I hope that you start to feel better. Do you have any thoughts/feelings about Alex Ovechkin (the Great 8) being on the verge of breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record (he is now three goals away). This is one of those records that most people thought would never be broken.

Happy Hanukkah

I almost feel bad about doing this to Val Kilmer, RIP, but nonetheless: It is April 2025, and I hereby advocate for *that* version of The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996). [#004]

Alexander Berry

Willow is a must see fantasy film with Val Kilmer.

Joe “Retroclassic” Pinney

For Val Kilmer, you’re missing two big ones: Oliver Stone’s THE DOORS (1991), which came out earlier the same year as JFK (1991), and which Val totally dominates as Jim Morrison, and THUNDERHEART (1992), in which Val plays a part-Lakota FBI agent assigned to investigate a murder on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. Graham Greene (who played Kicking Bird in DANCES WITH WOLVES (1990)), plays a Lakota tribal detective who initially clashes with Val’s character but later assists him as the mystery deepens. Both are excellent films and very highly recommended!

Shehab Dawoud

If Houston get to the final, I think the top 2 is more than enough. If they lose against Duke, I think it should be stretched out to the final 4. Only fair!

Rick Rodriguez

RIP to a big childhood hero of mine. Madmartigan was the first intro to me with Val. So many classics and great roles that have all been mentioned. I would go with Top Secret, Real Genius, and Thunderheart as recommends for the channel. And good to read Cassie is feeling better. Shingles are the worst. P.S. I always quietly loved Kilmer as Batman.

Clay F

Looking forward to Rise and especially Collateral. I will watch the Bad News Bears reaction. As for March Movie Madness, I have no strong preference among the Final 4, and will watch the reactions to the 2 finalists that you react to. Two Val Kilmer movies I suggest: 1. "Thunderheart" (1992) [RT=91%]. I think you would like it. 2. "The Doors" (1991) w/Meg Ryan.

Clay F

Ditto. +1 for Thunderheart. +1 for The Doors.

Johnny

You should watch Top Secret! I think it was Val Kilmer's first big role.

AceofSpades501

So sorry to hear about shingles in the mouth. Didn't know that was possible. Hope it's not as bad as it sounds. I hope someone brings you a shrubbery with the two level effect so it looks nice.

Dean Holt

Looking like a good week, very interested to see your reaction to Collateral (not saying why as I don’t want to spoil anything). If you are going to watch a movie for Val, I think the top 3 you haven’t seen yet are The Doors, The Saint & Willow. But I’d also like to add The Real McCoy & Batman Forever as I don’t think it’s as bad as a lot of people make out & in a strange way you might actually like it better than the 89 movie. But really hope the meds work for you and you feel better soon.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Glad you're feeling much better, Cassie! If you want a couple of Val Kilmer film suggestions; He played Elvis in True Romance (1992), although you never see his face, only his Elvis suit and Elvis voice! He also played Jim Morrison in The Doors biopic in 1991, providing his own singing vocals! Lastly he got to play Batman in Batman Forever (1995), but it's not held in very high regard compared to Keaton's and Bale's. He did dodge a bullet by not being in the follow up Batman and Robin (1997), which is so bad it is on IMDB's bottom 100 list alongside Cats (2019) and Highlander 2 (1991)! I'll try to send you some Cadbury's Orange Mini Eggs for the package opening, do they sell those in America or do they only sell the ordinary kind?

Richard Maurer

Yeah, some things are better forgotten.

Clarence Newman

I have no problem pointing out the reasons why we're looking forward to Collateral, Dean. It's because of this and that, him and her, that bit on the thing and all those other bits that are truly wow and will put a smile on Cassie's numbed-up shingle face. One of Tom's best, and though not a comedy, I think she will be thoroughly entertained.

Vlad D

You should watch Val Kilmer in Real Genius, Top Secret, The Saint, and the Doors. How about honoring Val with one week just for him

Mike Lemon

Kilmer- At First Sight (1999) is a good romance movie with Mira Sorvino and is based on a true story. The Saint (1997) is a spy type of movie with Elisabeth Shue and one of my favorite "oh that guy" actors, Rade Serbedzija. Both movies are Carly appropriate.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

You will really enjoy Tom Cruise in Collateral (2004) Cassie. I personally think it's one of Tom Cruise's best films and performances. Trivia note: it also features a before-he-was-famous appearance by Javier Bardem, three years before he won his first Oscar for No Country For Old Men (2007)!

Clarence Newman

Is it, Erik? I don't get the feeling it's unloved. I agree about the dynamic gun action, though. There's guns in every movie, but now and then (Open Range, Dirty Harry), you really get a sense of how powerful the guns really are.

Richard Maurer

You’re an awful person, HH. The only thing worse you could do is bring up him playing Batman in Batman Forever…..wait, I just brought it up, I’m an awful person too!!!!!!

Dean Holt

I personally don’t think she’s going to smile, although I think she’s will like it. But I don’t really want to say any more. But I’ll comment after she’s watched the film. Personally though I agree I think it’s one of his better movies / performances. But my personal favourite is The Last Samurai.

Clarence Newman

Cassie. I know you're a trendsetter in the reaction community, but no one in the history of lurgys has ever had shingles of the face. You'll just try anything once, won't you? I would say get better soon, but you're like a little pinball these days, bouncing around from lurgy to lurgy, and just when you think your ordeal is over, the paddles whack you back into play. If you ever get tired of reacting, you could make megabucks being prodded and poked by scientists in their "Immune Systems and Why They're a Good Thing" seminars. In the meantime, you need to watch Towering Inferno in honour of Richard Chamberlain and Willow in honour of Val.

Mike Lemon

What is this "Highlander 2" of which you speak? I remember the movies going from 1 to 3 and then ending. It was weird.

Richard Maurer

The two must see Val Kilmer movies you haven’t seen yet are two of his early ones - Top Secret! and Real Genius. And to all the people who were sure Cassie was going to watch the Final 4 - I told you not to count on it. But I still wish she would.

Clarence Newman

Lovely sentiment, Neil, but alas, it's like telling Danny DeVito to "Be tall". 🙁

shaneth138

YESS!!! RISE of the Planet of the APES. Finally!! So excited. Hope you feel better soon!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Highlander 2 (1991) is like The Exorcist 2 (1977), everybody just pretends it does not exist!

Clarence Newman

I thought he was alright as Batman, but it's definitely a Yay-Boo kind of movie. Yay to Val, Boo to Jim Carrey (who I love but he's too much here), and Yay to Nicole Kidman. I love Tommy Lee too (in general) but he's a mixture of Yay and Boo here, and the less said about Robin the better. Not the most ringing endorsement of a movie I'll ever give. but it has its merits.

Mike Lemon

I think she should watch all four only if Blazing Saddles and The Professional are both of the winners. The former I think she may be too young to appreciate the humor and the latter I think she may pick up on the problems with the director, but we'll see. Who knows, she is full of surprises.

Mike Lemon

You wildly misspelled Shogun (1980) for Chamberlain. Must be an auto-correct thing.

Patrick

Shingles suuuuucks. I had it on my chest when I was younger and it was awful. Hope you're okay!

Christopher Ferrarelli

You should check out Val Kilmer as The Caped Crusader in Batman Forever (1995). Also, have you wrapped up the OG Apes series? I was wondering if you’ll get to Battle For The Planet of the Apes (1973).

Patrick

Val Kilmer: 'Wonderland' (2003) based on a true story, one of his most powerful performances.

Jon Johns

Just so that Cassie is not confused, Interstellar does not feature Val Kilmer, he's not even in the film posting a film title with zero context is incredibly confusing.

The Star Treker (aka Michael)

I had no idea you were sick—really hope you're feeling better. I've been loving your reactions to the classic Planet of the Apes movies on your channel. But man, I gotta admit, I was a little bummed to hear you're skipping Battle and the Tim Burton/Mark Wahlberg remake. Totally get it, though—your channel, your call. Still, I'm beyond excited for you to dive into the reboot movies, starting with Rise of the Planet of the Apes. And of course, I miss your Star Trek reactions. Hoping one day you circle back and check out Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and the rest—so much great Trek still waiting for you. Also, would love to see you tackle more DC and Marvel movies. On a sadder note, hearing about Val Kilmer's passing really hit hard. He was incredible as Iceman in Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick, and I actually really enjoyed his take on Batman in Batman Forever. And let's not forget him as the voice of KITT in the 2008 Knight Rider series—a cool nod to the original show.

Clarence Newman

Shogun may be a Towering mini series, Mike, but it suffers from a distinct lack of people with their heads on fire. And given that you are a man who has staunchly campaigned against tv series' taking up air time on the channel, I feel the need to point out that Towering Inferno is a good 20 minutes shorter than the Shogun series.

Philip Alan

The Island Of Dr Moreau is such a guilty pleasure of mine. Maybe an October entry? :)

Mike Lemon

Off topic- Are the uploads to Rumble going to start happening again? Movie Munchies getting her channel struck this week is a good reminder to always have a non-YouTube backup.

Jon Johns

Val Kilmer films I'd suggest: Real Genius; fun comedy about really smart people. Willow; a fantasy film directed by Ron Howard, exec produced by George Lucas. (Disney + created a series in 2022 that is a sequel) Thunder heart; a crime / investigative thriller set on a native American reservation (Lakota Tribe) -- Cassie, I think you'll eventually go back to post- Batman '89 series of films before the Nolan Trilogy rewatch, no need to single out Val's Batman movie out of order IMHO. Top Secret & The Doors are not my taste in films, so I can't recommend them. The Saint was 'good' but not great. His performance was 'good' but not great. Again, IMHO.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - Oh, Kilmer wasn’t the problem. The problem was he was stuck in that awful movie . He could have been a good Batman if he was in a decent version of the Batman story. The real problem with those Batman movies wasn’t the actors, it was Joel Schumacher.

Keith Brown

I agree on all but I do love "Top Secret" done by the creators of "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun" folks.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - Yet another thing better forgotten.

Jon Johns

I guess I loved Airplane! But not much else from that team? I do love "Kentucky Fried Movie, did they make that?

Vincent Vega

No spoilers but I really hated the ending of Collateral

Richard Maurer

I really want to see her reaction to Blazing Saddles in the same way I wanted to see her reaction to Holy Grail - however she takes it will be interesting, and therefore entertaining, to me. I’d definitely do the full watch along on that one.

Clarence Newman

Kentucky Fried Movie is hilarious, although, because it's a group of unrelated sketches, it's also very hit-and-miss. Some of it would be very jarring for Cassie to watch, but it would definitely make for a good reaction. The mini-movie in the middle is superb, though she would need to watch Enter The Dragon first before she would get the joke. And yes, it was Zucker and Abrahams who did it.

Richard Maurer

Cassie’s Rainmaker reaction got taken down before I had a chance to watch it .

Jon Johns

There was a modern attempt to recreate KFM vibe called movie 43, which, imo, is just awful 😂

Wesley White

I'm really look forward to you and Carly watching the Planet of the Apes reboot/prequel (sort of) lol! I actually really like these ones more than the OG's and Andy Serkis (Gollum) is fantastic in his motion capture acting! I was just as shocked as anyone after hearing of Val Kilmer's passing, 65?, that's young! He was one of my all time favorite actors growing up! Though I admit I've only seen a handful of his movies! One movie that you must react to that he was in, is a childhood favorite fantasy movie of mine, the movie "Willow (88)" Such great, fun, wonderful, and underrated fantasy movie! May he RIP😭💔😇🙏 I so can't wait for your YT edit of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" I've already watched your full-length 4 times up to this point, I even showed it to my friends recently and they laughed hysterically at your reaction lol🤣🤣🤣 I'm very glad to hear you're finally getting better! Shingles? YIKES!!!😱 I only had those once in my life when I was a teenager, they were on my back around the waist near my ribcage, luckily my family and I were able to stop it in time before it got worse! Glad you're getting better, love and support always, you and Carly are the best, God bless y'all and the family🥰😇🙏😁🤗😉👍✌🌹

Richard Maurer

Top Secret! and Real Genius are the two she should watch, maybe The Doors. Willow I could do without. And Schumacher Batman movies should be buried and forgotten. The nostalgia goggles are working overtime with these movies…imo, of course.

Richard Maurer

Philip - lets not. There’s two other, better, versions of the Moreau story, if we have to watch it in October - which we.don’t, we could watch them any time.

Richard Maurer

No to Willow - Yes to Top Secret! or Real Genius.

Chris Thom

Yeah he was great in that. Maybe Lisa Kudrow's best acting as well. Super dark film though.

Chris Thom

Really fun action movie. Super colorful and over the top. Probably more enjoyable for the young, but very much a comic come to life.

Bill W

Glad you're feeling better. ❤️ Shingles in the nose and mouth sounds really scary.

Chris Thom

Great suggestion for Cassie. Think she would enjoy that.

FranciscoGios

Rest in Peace Val Kilmer, The Saint was favorite film from him

Bill W

I pretend none of them existed and it was just an awesome tv series (1992-1998)

Bill W

+1 Thunderheart

MikeLL

Knowing that Bad News Bears won the baseball poll I looked at the sign of upcoming movies and interpreted it as: Rise of Collateral: Bad News! Hey, I don't know what it means, I just interpret the signs! Excited to see the modern Apes movies. They are as cool as the originals, and that is very cool. Mostly I'm just counting the days. 51, to be exact, counting today, until the release of Mission Impossible The Last Reckoning! Now, THAT is something to be excited about! But I hope we see all four of the Final Four films! I want to see the one comedy, Blazing Saddles, most of all, and I'm afraid we won't see Auburn in the finals (mostly because I have Florida and Houston in the finals in my bracket!).

Richard Maurer

Clarence - Did you click on it? I did earlier last evening and got a “removed for content” message.

Bill W

Don't think she follows any sports. Regardless, I've been trying to suggest Mystery Alaska and Youngblood for several years.

Chris Thom

Loved The Doors. But apparently the band really did not. In fact I think they still feel betrayed by it. Oliver Stone does seem to have a knack for pissing people off.

Chris Thom

Has Meg Ryan appeared on the channel yet?

Bill W

She has already seen interstellar.

MikeLL

When I asked her in the Butter live about watching all four games, she said that she hadn't said yet, she didn't want to take away from the excitement of watching the actual games that are this weekend and the final on Monday. I'm hoping for an audible call on her doing what she did last year.

Chris Thom

Granted I was ten in 1995, but Batman Forever was the perfect blockbuster for that age. Bet your kids would enjoy it at least if you don't watch it on the channel. Fun fact: Tommy Lee Jones told Jim Carrey he sincerely hated him multiple times during filming.

Chris Thom

The Saint really hurt his career apparently.

MikeLL

Watching Paul Newman and Steve McQueen et all in The Towering Inferno is a towering good idea!

Mario C

Feel Better! Lot of good ones that you havent seen. Classic 80’s Real Genius, Thriller The Saint, and Fictional Willow! My personal favorite performance is The Doors but not sure if you would like it. At First Sight is right up your alley lol.

Richard Maurer

While I dislike many movies, I reserve the term ‘despise’ for a select few. I truly despise the Schumacher Batman movies I don’t think even children should watch them as they give a bad impression of what the Batman character is supposed to to be about. But that’s just my opinion :-)

MikeLL

As for more Val Kilmer movies, they actually weren't made 60-85 years ago like most of my favorite movies were, so I am totally unqualified to comment on them!

Bill W

More re-watches? Oy vey! 🙄 And I agree with the 'nostalgia goggles' assessment. Jeez Larue! Ok, I'm running out of emphatic exclamations.

Jon Johns

You know that Cassie & Carly have the memories of goldfish. Plus, what have they re watched recently that vexes you so?

Bill W

God bless the Munchies. They deserve justice!

Chris Thom

Your objections have been noted. I remember loving Forever, and then being flat-out depressed by Batman and Robin three years later. Still not sure if they were really all that different, or if it was an age thing.

Chris Thom

That's interesting. Wonder if there's an age range when a person's favorite movies take root? Maybe ten to twenty five?

Richard Maurer

Really? Not trying to be. Just my normal blunt self

Archronos

Blessed week. Taxis will never be looked at the same again!

Richard Maurer

MikeLL - she said in her post she’s definitely watching the top 2 - which could mean she still MIGHT watch the Final 4, but could also mean she’s only watching the final 2. It’s a little vague but it gives her room to change her mind.

Bill W

Jon, no recent re-watches but a re-watch was listed as an option on the baseball poll. Just not a fan of the idea of re-watches...whether it be for a memory refresh, or to add Carly to the reaction... And I felt the jokes were way more obvious in Top Secret, and not as deftly delivered. Different strokes, i guess.

Richard Maurer

For me it’s the narrow range from the 1920’s to the 2020’s.

Jon Johns

Well, if the voters know it's a rewatch, and vote for it anyway, whatcha gonna do? Find a better community of more like-minded cinephiles?

Keith Brown

Yes they wrote “Kentucky Fried Movie” but John Landis directed it .

Clarence Newman

Just clicked on it after reading your post and it started playing. On here only, I think. I haven't tried via Youtube.

Richard Maurer

Have I said recently how much I despise the Schumacher Batman films?…..cause I really despise the Schumacher Batman films. ;-)

Bill W

I've heard of other channels being hacked and they lost all their content because it was all on the server/cloud. Always save everything on a hard drive!!

Richard Maurer

Their (the movie munchies) constant chatter is adorable if you’re in the right mood……and like nails on a chalkboard when you’re not.

Clarence Newman

Didn't like The Saint. Not a great film and Elisabeth Shue's hairstyle was scandalously bad.

MikeLL

Chris Thom, that is very possible. As a young child in the 1960's, the 20-30 year old movies that were on afternoon and weekend TV were all from the 30's-40's. Richard, that sounds too narrow. Don't you like any silent movies??? 😂

jdj830

The great Val Kilmer performance missing from your list is THE DOORS, the film about the rock band that performed the songs you heard in Apocalypse Now.

Jon Johns

IMHO, the saints disguises were not good, Gene Parmesan on Arrested Development had better 🤣

Richard Maurer

Clarence - maybe because you’re not in the US? Not sure if these strikes work the same outside the US.

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

Hey Cassie, sorry about the shingles but so glad you're feeling better.

Richard Maurer

There were many silent movies in the 20’s. ;-)

Clarence Newman

They were poor to be sure. Did you realise, though, Richard, that Alfred from the Keaton Batmans was also in Horror of Dracula? I know this because I started watching it last week before my broadband bit the big one.

Richard Maurer

Jon Johns - I know you weren’t asking me but I’ll answer anyway, because I want to. If a re-watch wins a poll and I don’t like it, I just won’t watch it. Why would anyone leave over something like that? Unless that’s what became a majority of the content, then I could see leaving.

Above Average Dave

So sorry to hear about the shingles, Cassie. Mouth and nose sounds PAINFUL! God bless and get well soon!

Katie Sivak

So sorry to hear about Val Kilmer. It’s really awful. Please watch real genius or thunder. Those are some really good Val Kilmer movies You would like Willow it’s a fun fantasy movie and you and Cassie would really like At First Sight, a romance with Val Kilmer and Mira Sorvino Feel better Cassie sorry

Clarence Newman

Just tried it again, Richard. I have full Rainmaker access.

verygooster

Hope you’re feeling better, Cassie! One Val Kilmer movie I hope you consider is Top Secret! It’s a comedy from the Airplane and Naked Gun folks so you have an idea what you’re getting into lol.

Dan M

Shingles in your mouth and nose?!?! Good grief! I know you’re an innovator in the reaction world, but I’ve never heard of anyone getting shingles in the mouth and nose before. It sounds awful…and I hope it passes quickly, like yesterday. Can’t believe Val Kilmer has passed. He had great roles in so many of my favorite movies. A great actor who seemed very down to earth…one of those actors who you’d just like to sit down and have a conversation with. Here are some of his movies that you haven’t seen that I think you’d enjoy: Real Genius - hilarious 80s comedy about super smart people and teen problems Top Secret - comedy spoof in the same vein as Airplane! and Spaceballs Willow - mythical and magical fantasy adventure At First Sight - romance drama Thunderheart - crime drama I’m so looking forward to watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes with you and Carly. I think the both of you are going to be really surprised at how good it is and how invested you become in the story, especially now having the seen the OG movies.

Clarence Newman

She's officially decided to skip Battle, Christopher. At least 3,000 people on here told her it was not worth watching.

Bill W

Jon , is that my only option?

Richard Maurer

Michael Gough? Of course I knew that, hard as I tried to forget (for his legacies sake).

TheSingulatarian

Anybody watching "The Studio" on Apple TV? The most recent episode seems to be about a movie very much like "Collateral" where the studio chief has to give a note on a denouement that ruins the movie and has to be cut. Good show.

TheSingulatarian

Antibiotics, Shiingles, No. The doctor may have given you something that is helping but it cannot be antibiotics. Antibiotics only works on bacterial infections. Shingles is a virus. It may be something like Tamiflu which is an antiviral medication. Glad you are feeling better.

Richard Maurer

I get it though, it’s an age thing. If you were a kid when you watched them you probably enjoyed them. But I was in my 30’s, and when my friends and I discussed movies and someone brought up the Schumacher Batman movies the next 1/2 hour would just be goofing on them and basically shredding them. It was a pretty common sentiment of the comics fandom then too.

Rudy Hernandez

Val Kilmer: Real Genius The Doors Top Secret Willow

Doc Larry/old geezer

The third Batman movie Val Kilmer Batman forever is a different interpretation than the original 1989 Batman with Michael Keaton, which I know was not your favorite. Let’s say far from it. With the passing of Mr. Kilmer, maybe we can have a Val Kilmer poll. The next few weeks look exciting and enjoyable. Keep up the good work. PS I’m glad you’re feeling better

Jason Henderson

Dear Cassie, I was so sad to learn on Patreon that mr Kilmer had passed on, After a few quick tears I am sharing my thoughts with you and the pib community. He was such a great actor totally dedicated to his craft, so talented so Committed, such a special person. To impact others threw your acting abilities, giving us some happiness some joy , says a lot ! My favourite role he portrayed was doc Halliday of course, but loved heat and the ghost as well. Others I thought were great was Willow , where he met his wife , the saint , thunder heart And Batman. For a time in the early 90s he was a top box office draw not unlike Tom cruise. Just a thought, would a full week dedicated to him be Something that you would consider? My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, he will always be with us all threw his life’s work! Thanks Cassie for The channel for the platform to share, With the p i b community ! For Val 🍿🙏🏻

Richard Maurer

Clarence - it’s not even showing as a option on Cassie’s YT channel anymore here in the US.

Richard Maurer

All but Willow I agree with. He was good in Willow, but he and the tiny Frenchmen were just about the only good things in it, imo.

Joe J

For me, re-watches are about, "I need views", lets watch a really popular movie again". Hard to resist that temptation.

Shawn Kildal

Cassie, please keep in mind there a post credit scene in RISE. It helps to explain what is to come.

Larry Darrell

Val Kilmer films to see… Top Secret! (1984) Real Genius (1985) The Doors (1991) Thunderheart (1992) The Saint (1997) The Salton Sea (2002) Wonderland (2003) Spartan (2004) Oh boy… Shingles? You’re doing too much Cass. You’re running yourself ragged. Try taking a month off or so from all the Extra Curricular Activities. Eliminate the Stress.

Shawn Kildal

No more trips to Mexico for Cassie

Joe J

Clarence, mainly it was just (3) people who told her 1000 times each, Lol.

Joe J

Tough love from Mrs. Popcorn...we aren't ready for that, Lol.

John Liebling

Very sorry you have Shingles. Glad modern medicine is making the difference and you're feeling better. Awakenings starring Robin Williams and Robert DiNero is an amazing movie. And it's based on a true story. This is not a funny Williams movie; it's a very tender flick; in a way you can't imagine. It's not a story you've seen before. I hope it's part of the group which got eliminated, you'll give a chance.

Stephen Dias

Sadly, "Secondhand Lions" didn't make the cut. I'm certain that Cassie (and Carly) would love that movie.

Joe J

The Towering Inferno is a weirdly satisfying watch. Always keep that tube of 10,000 SPF sunblock handy, you just never know.

Joe J

Up next should be "Mr. Brooks", Lol. Let's not wait till Spooktober.

Clarence Newman

Maybe not, but it plays on here just fine

Robert Baldino

I'd say that those first two are essential to the Val Kilmer experience.

Joe J

I think she'll be all "aped" out and skip the Burton one.

Richard Maurer

Depends on the movie. I was all in for the with Carly re-watch of Lord of the Rings. Didn’t care much one way or another about Gladiator. And I can’t really think of any movies they’d be willing to do a rewatch to that I really care about.

Bill W

Chris, yes - Courage Under Fire. I think she's seen Harry/Sally. and Mail before the channel.

Joe J

Burton + Apes seems very scary, and it's not Spooktober, Lol?

Joe J

Not underrated, Lol. It made good coin at the box-office, RT 84%. Still shown quite a lot on basic cable.

Sahitya

Sorry about the shingles. Tbh I'm glad it turned out to be something treatable, but I'm sure it wasnt fun to deal with. Not to give overt medical advice but just some info for what it's worth. Shingles is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus in your nerve roots. After recovering from chicken pox as a child, the virus remains dormant in the nerve roots. For someone in your age group shingles can be caused by high stress and lack of rest. High stress -> high cortisol levels -> cortisol tanks immune system -> allows reactivation of virus in the nerve root. Something to think about. An interesting case of it is Conan O'Brian, he mentioned on his podcast that he got shingles in his eye in his 20s, on his birthday no less lol. Interestingly the same nerve that goes to the eye is part of a larger nerve called the Trigeminal nerve that, guess what.... has 2 other major branches that go to the nose and mouth. 😱 On a side note, looking forward to Collateral, what a film!

Uncle Phoenix

I’m feeling that all these sick days are connected. “Maybe” it’s stress related. I’ve heard that a little Ashwaganda can help with stress. A lot of CEO’s and entertainers use it to help with stress.

Adam Doyle

All good Winners in the Final Four! I am excited to see Collateral (intense) and there are many other great courtroom dramas (and a few comedies) if you want to keep these going all summer.

Riktur Scale

I second the above! Real Genius and Top Secret are really funny. Also, maybe his turn as Batman. Not because it is good, but he was BATMAN!

Doug Law

My first Val Kilmer movie was Thunderheart. Lesser known movie, but still one of my favorites. The Saint was also a lot of fun. Side note: I will forever be grateful to Tom Cruise for his insistence in putting Val Kilmer in Top Gun Maverick. And for adapting the role and the scenes that Kilmer was able to do it. What an amazing tribute to him.

Wes

Kilmer films I recommend are 1. Top Secret 2. Real Genius 3. The Salton Sea 4. Thunderheart and something Cassie would like 5. The Saint

Sam R.

PLEASE let it be Bad News Bears from the 70s

Milton Reduxed

In Willow Val Kilmer is the Greatest Swordsman Who Ever Lived

Milton Reduxed

Hi Cassie I wonder if you've thought about going to see a homoeopathist to help with compromised immunity? My vet recommended we take our cat to one when he couldn't help and, although some people will call it nonsense, it really worked and she lived for ages. Also it's risk free without side-effects and there are several in Provo Utah

Bill Maurer

"Yo, homie ... that my briefcase?"

Bill Maurer

Val Kilmer movies .. Willow Wonderland .. hard and brutal movie to watch.

Mark Vaderr

This is going to be a fun week! Glad you are feeling better, Cassie. Now stop getting sick! We get new Apes, a top notch Michael Mann thriller, and Walter Matthau. Hopefully The Bad News Bears will make you more anxious to watch The Odd Couple. 😁One can dream. Cassie, if you make a 50 year anniversary poll for 1975, then you might as well go all out and also make a a 75 year poll for 1950, and a 100 year poll for 1925! 😃 Wouldn't that be fun! Of course it would. Sadly, I will have to miss your package opening. 😥 I will be in Green Bay for the NFL Draft. I'll have to watch the replay and see the joy on your face when you open the package from Julie & me. April is off to a great start, although you may want to wait a few decades from returning to Mexico. Just go to Disneyland instead.

Clay F

My kids liked it.

Clay F

PATREON. I am in the US and the "[YT Edit] The Rainmaker (1997)" works just fine on Patreon. Does not go through YT. YT is not the player. I think this is what Clarence is talking about. Clarence watches the edited version of The Rainmaker (1997) reaction on Patreon, which works fine everywhere. Richard, you could watch the edited version of The Rainmaker (1997) reaction on Patreon. YOUTUBE. The Rainmaker (1997) reaction is apparently blocked on YT in at least the US and Europe. This is apparently what Richard is talking about. But Richard can watch the edited version of The Rainmaker (1997) reaction on Patreon?

JohnnyUtah

100% willow needs to be reacted to

Clay F

There are 10 movies in the Planet of the Apes franchise. She reacting to 9 of the 10. All except Battle (1973). She has already reacted to the first 4. 1. Planet of the Apes (1968) [the best of the 10] 2. Beneath (1970) 3. Escape (1971) 4. Conquest (1972) 5. Battle (1973) [she will not react to Battle] *6. Planet of the Apes (2001) [she saving till the end] 7. Rise (2011) 8. Dawn (2014) 9. War (2017) 10. Kingdom (2024) *She said "I think i will watch the tim burton one after!" --Thus, she saving the Tim Burton 2001 remake till the end after the Serkis Apes movies (reboots). --If she decides not to react to the 2001 remake, she would therefore react to 8 of the 10.

Joe J

Burton + Apes, be afraid, be very afraid. 😆 RT 27%

Clay F

Yep, not the greatest. She said she has a friend who liked it. And there are a few patrons who are fans and have pushed for a reaction to the Burton remake.

Dave Beverley

Two Val Kilmer films to watch.. 'Batman Forever', bit of a corny film but underrated & i always thought he made for a great Batman/Bruce Wayne & one of my all time favourites in 'The Saint'. Two 90's films that have the sort of elements you like.

Clay F

No contest.

Clay F

Val Kilmer movies she has not seen? My ranking of some below. 1. “Thunderheart” (1992). Redemption. My favorite but I have nostalgia. I think she would be invested and like it. Val Kilmer is lead character. 2. “The Doors” (1991) w/Meg Ryan. Not a perfect movie but I like it. Val Kilmer is lead character. 3. “The Salton Sea”(2002) – ok 4. “Real Genius” (1985). Acceptable. I prefer Thunderheart and The Doors. 5. “Top Secret!” (1984). Silly but acceptable. I prefer Thunderheart and The Doors. 6. “Wonderland” (2003). Johnny Wadd is a legend but the movie not the greatest. 7. “The Saint” (1997). Overall, not that satisfying. 8. “Willow” (1988). Not a fan. Slow pace and generic story. Kilmer is prominent character but not a lead character. I am afraid that Willow (1988) might win a Val Kilmer poll. 9. “Batman Forever” (1995). Nostalgia may be strong with middle-aged male patrons who watched this as a kid/young adult. I prefer Batman (1966) and the Dark Knight trilogy.

Just Plain Bob

The Tim Burton version of “Planet of the Apes” is just atrocious. Marky Mark phones it in and the whole thing felt like it ran out of budget 2/3 of the way thru. It’s only redeeming qualities are Rick Baker’s make-up effects (some of the very best ever captured on camera) and Tim Roth’s scenery chewing depiction of General Thade. Paul Giamatti is also fantastic but given too little to do. That said, tastes in movies varies widely. I’ve seen several people in this forum absolutely skewer “Batman Forever.” The story is bad, the direction is seemingly non-existent, Tommy Lee Jones gives the worst performance of his career and Val Kilmer proves that Marky Mark isn’t the only one to phone in their performance in a big budget extravaganza. For me, it doesn’t even have nostalgia going for it (I saw it during a very difficult time in my life). For absolutely no good reason, though, I love it. I won’t even try to defend it. It’s bad, so very very bad. But I love it.

mikethemotormouth

As far as Val Kilmer, I'm waiting for The Doors, Willow, Red Planet, Wonderland, and my favorite Batman Forever

Clay F

The makeup effects are excellent. Tim Roth gives a good performance. Paul Giamatti ain't bad. Helena Bonham Carter. I don't have the hate for the 2001 remake that many do, but did not find the story that compelling. Also, some of the performances not the greatest. Story aspects that I like are those that indicate societal commentary and animal rights, and the better portrayal of a more primitive ape culture. I think there is a chance that Cassie/Carly will like it at least ok, but who knows.

Dean Holt

As I’m not a massive fan of Costner, it doesn’t surprise me I’ve not heard of the movie before. But just looked it up and it sounds very interesting, also has Demi Moore in so that’s a good reason on its own lol.

Stick Figure Studios

Make sure you watch The end credits of RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.

justin swan

So glad your doing better :)

2-Can

Yes, definitely an end credits movie.

Joe R

Cassie needs to watch the John Travolta movie, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble. It is about the one person in the world who has a worse immune system than Cassie.

Richard Maurer

I did say YT Clay, I hadn’t checked Patreon I usually only watch full reaction there. Good to know I can watch it somewhere.

Lesley and Zack

I grew up watching Val Kilmer in Real Genius over and over, I regularly quote it to this day!

Shreddy

Shame Carly wasn't in for Collateral. Most interesting movie out of recent ones

Jon Johns

So sorry Bill, for the late reply, my day got away from me. Of course that's not your only option!

Björn Karlsson

I had to translate shingles 🙂 My mum got that back in 2020 at Christmas. I gave her a lift att Christmas eve to the hospital. Shingles is a nasty desease 😬😬😬 Great that your medicin works. Take care 🙂😃

Gryflet

Very small movie of Mr Val Kilmer and one of my favorites is "Thunderheart" a 1990s mystery thriller set on a Native American reservation. Classic!

JohnnyUtah

Another great Kilmer film.

JohnnyUtah

You mean Batman Forever, not great by any means but I still like Vals batman far more than Clooneys. Big props for Thunderheart at no. 1. Although I love willow, it was something for us kids who just missed out if star wars to love.

Vincent Vega

The Saint! That's one of those films you forget you've seen so you rewatch it years later and are like, How did I forget about that?! Awesome film and Kilmer is amazing in it

Clay F

Oh yeah. Thanks for pointing out the typo. I edited to correct. I walked out of the theater during the middle of Willow. I was 25 in 1988.

View the Right Thing

Sorry if this was covered elsewhere, but what happened to the Rainmaker YT video. It seems to have disappeared.

Stick Figure Studios

I think it gets somewhat of a bad rap myself. It's not exactly good, but I don't think it's as terrible as so many say.

Stick Figure Studios

Thank you for mentioning this. You are doing the Lord's work.

Eric Wallace

Shingles is miserable, I can't imagine having it in your mouth. Glad you are on the mend! I hope Rise of the Planet of the Apes drops soon, I could use the vibes

Shawn Kildal

I actually thought of that too reading her post. Did you know Travolta became involved in a romantic relationship with the actress that played his mom in that movie? She died (of cancer I think) while he was filming Saturday Night Fever

Shawn Kildal

She has a reaction to True Romance actually

Shawn Kildal

She watched all 4 movies that made the Final 4 last year.

Shawn Kildal

She said Interstellar put her to sleep so she probably didn't see all of it. Carly saw it and would only say it was way too long

Shawn Kildal

I do try. Cassie is usually quick on the trigger to instantly turn off the movie once it's ended. I'd love to see their reaction to the post credit scene especially

Sam R.

the Mans a walking punch line , and the kids are amazing and hilarious.

Mike Lemon

Odds are a copyright issue. You can still watch it on the Patreon player though.

Chris Thom

There was actually a lot of thought and money and creativity that went into the art direction, costumes, effects, sets and such. Seriously large budget for the time. It's over the top but there's plenty to appreciate about it.

Rick Rodriguez

Maybe it can be 2 polls. Comedy Kilmer and Drama Kilmer

Chris Thom

My vote would be for The Doors one thousand percent.

Philip Alan

It's such a fantastic show! (The Studio)

Philip Alan

@Richard - interesting. I've only seen that one version. I'll have to spy the others.

Bill Maurer

Deja Vu. Denzel and Val Kilmer, in a smaller role

Viet Ta

I am personally bummed that it seems like she's skipping the markey mark version

Marty McGee

You'd love Val Kilmer as Madmartigan in the 80's fantasy movie Willow. Glad you're on the mend though. Shingles in your mouth and nose? Must've been miserable!

The Star Treker (aka Michael)

You totally should, after watching all of them gives you the full picture. I've seen them all, and while I've enjoyed most of them, nothing hits like the reboots. I seriously love them. 😊 I'm honestly so excited to see your reaction to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Really hope it hits for you. And still waiting for them to drop the fifth one (which I hope they're planning to) and pick things up from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Eddie Perkins

I would have to go with Wonderland, the fact-based film of John Holmes.

Richard Maurer

Totally agree about Willow and Batman Forever. It would make for an awful tribute if either of those won a poll. I doubt if Val Kilmer himself would want those films to represent his career - certainly not Batman Forever.

Richard Maurer

I’d watch a reaction to the Tim Burton one, the YT version anyway, just to see what Cassie would make of it. But I wonder how well it would do on YT?

Richard Maurer

Mr. Brooks would be an interesting reaction but it definitely doesn’t belong in October, since it’s not a horror film.

Matthew Tarpley

Yikes! I hope you are feeling better. Did you ever have chicken pox when you were little? I had chicken pox when I was. That is the reason lots of folks get shingles. My grandmother had the shingles REALLY bad. And both my doctor and health insurance people kept riding my backside until I got shingles vaccines, so I went ahead and relented just so they would stop pestering me. Anyway, I hope you are feeling better and looking forward to your movie posts.

Happy Hanukkah

To the contrary, Cassie has a *great* immune system! Can you imagine how almost superhuman it must be to allow her to remain alive and active despite the fact that all the nefarious microorganisms in the world have apparently declared war on her?!

Happy Hanukkah

RM - So you're saying that the movie that will win the poll will be either Willow or Batman Forever. :-P :-/

Happy Hanukkah

Joe, how *dare* you quote RT to Clay, of all people?! :-)

Dean Holt

I personally don’t mind the Tim Burton movie, as I can enjoy it for what it is. I’d probably give it a 6/10 and have it in 6th in my ranking behind the Original and the 4 films from the reboot.

Richard Maurer

HH - correct. That’s why they should be banned from the poll

Happy Hanukkah

Which inspires this capital idea: pre-poll polls to determine which movies should be banned from the poll!

Richard Maurer

And if the wrong movies get picked in pre-poll polls we have redo polls until the right films are picked. What could possibly go wrong?

Nathan Benefield

Hope you are feeling better and wishing you the best. And this has been said by others, but Val Kilmer is great as Madmartigan in Willow

Chris Thom

She just added it today if you haven't seen yet.

Richard Maurer

Philip - there are two other versions. Island of Lost Souls (32) starring Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi, and The Island of Dr. Moreau (77) starring Burt Lancaster and Michael York. Both are generally considered better than the 96 version, except by Happy Hanukkah, for some strange reason

Happy Hanukkah

To watch the Val Kilmer version; that is the *Law*! Are we not men?

Brian Wood

Val Kilmer - The Saint 1997

Patrick Dillon

The best Val Kilmer is "Top Secret", the "Airplane!"-ish spy comedy spoof.
