Cool. I'm the first one to post so I can give my learned opinion before anyone else. Ummmm....never seen this and don't know what it's about. Is it any good?

Nick Stark

You silly. It’s just before 3am here in Oklahoma and I was FINALLY drifting off. Then the movie I had been waiting for all day gets posted. Thank you Cassie. Just finished watching your reaction and was definitely not disappointed. I had a feeling you were going to enjoy the ride. Especially the ending.

Just Plain Bob

No idea if it’s any good but I am aware of the basic premise and know that’s not how double jeopardy works.

Bill Maurer

Happy Mother's Day to you and all the Mom's out there 💘

K, Zachary

Chime woke me up, the dogs have seen my movement they want scratches. Yeah I have seen this too many times. However I am a big Ashley Judd fan and this one I remember clearly we will have to watch this one later tonight. We watched The Last Of Us last night. No spoilers. We love what Cassie's mannerisms during movies. The fact that she stops herself from swearing mother freakers. The fact that she yells stop it. During scenes she doesn't like. She usually crosses her arms too. When it's building to a big scene she will lean forward one hand usually on her mouth. Jump scares are something to behold. The way she defends Jean-Luc Picard in every movie. Now we see she has a stuffed Picard next to her cute gift. We can't wait to see her mannerisms during this and during the new Last Of Us. My Wild Love ( What I call her in public a tribute to the Doors song ) Will yell WTF with her eyes getting big. When she gets surprised. She will grab onto our husky Amaru and hug him tight or me. When she gets scared or it's building to a big scene. When she gets nervous she will twirl her hair. Cassie is not alone with her mannerisms during movies. I am sure every girl is different though. That's what makes everyone of them so unique.

Clarence Newman

Happy Mom's Day to Cassie and her Mom. Also to every other Mom in the world, except the one in Carrie and every Mom Anne Ramsey ever played. They can suck it. Please, Cassie's Mom, exert some pressure on your daughter to watch Towering Inferno this month. Or Lost In Translation. No...AND Lost In Translation. Tell her she has to do it or you'll send her to her room.

JL_83

have not seen this since its theatrical release in ‘99 so it may almost feel like a first-time watch…I remember thinking Ashley Judd was good, and that Tommy Lee Jones just seems ideally suited for this type of role

Phillip Bates

I always loved this movie and and Ashley Judd's and Tommy Lee Jones' performances were both very good. Your reaction was good... exactly what I expected from a Mom. Happy belated Mother's Day!!

Ted Whalen

I hope that you had a great Mothers Day! I have always really liked this movie. Your mom definitely has good taste in movies!

TheSingulatarian

If You like Ashley Judd then you will like William Freidkin's "Bug" (2006).

clutchkman

Those were moving words about your mom. I have no doubt that she's proud of her children. Happy Mother's Day!!

Jeff

I think this is the first time that the Find Your Own Copy link has let me down. According to Just Watch, I should be able to watch along on MGM+ where I have a subscription but this movie is not there. They have a trailer for the movie but not the actual movie.

Terry Yelmene

For me, this is a Top 20 (hard to do only 10) PiB-Cassie reaction. There is a full range of emotions and insights shared, and through to the end, Cassie holds her 'Cassie Hope' for the feel good ending. - We all get it here.

Carol Rocha

Woke up to this!! Oh my goodness!! A rainy day and Double Jeopardy! What a combo!!! ❤️❤️Tell Mom thanks (I love this movie) and I hope you both had a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Carol Rocha

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you PIB mothers!!

Carol Rocha

Also, KISS THE GIRLS; Ashley & Morgan Freeman. A great mystery/thriller!

Clay F

Is your MGM+ subscription directly with MGM+ , or through Amazon Prime or through Apple?

Carol Rocha

It’s a GREAT movie I’ve watched for years! Love it!

Carol Rocha

😂I don’t think so either, but it’s great to see this play out in her case!

Jeff

Directly with MGM+. I have (and had) some subscriptions through Amazon Prime so I know things can lag there, or never show up, but this time I am direct.

Jeff

Following on my earlier comment, I sent a note to Just Watch (using their "see anything wrong" link) to let them know that this movie is not available on MGM+. Within only a few minutes, I got a response and they have removed the MGM+ from the available sites. I hope they checked to verify and didn't just take my word for it.

Matt Rose

One of those 'much better than the premise would indicate' films. It doesn't break any new ground but it's so well executed that it really doesn't matter. It's also much better acted by everyone than is typically required for this type of film. Jones, in particular, plays things in a much more subdued manner than usual. Good movie.

Above Average Dave

I am going to watch this, but quick question: was Canadian superhero Alex Trebek involved in anyway? Happy Mother’s Day to Cassie and all the Moms in this happy, movie-obsessed group!

Mike Lemon

No, he wasn't in this. You may be thinking of Final Jeopardy. It's an obscure horror flick where he plays the psychotic... Well you have to see it to believe it.

Above Average Dave

WHAT IS, THERE IS NO JEOPARDY WITHOUT ALEX TREBECK, Mike?

Grégory Gautier

This is probably Ashley Judd's best film (in a first role), two actors work wonderfully together. My only regret is that the living husband is revealed too early in the film. Otherwise, Ashley Judd is as beautiful as ever. Cassie is bound to be pleased with the happy ending.

Dan M

Happy Mother’s Day to you and your mom, Cassie! I hope you had a great time with your Book Club! I’m so glad you enjoyed this movie. I think it is highly underrated, both in terms of the story and plot, and in the acting performances by Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones. Another great choice by your mom.

Dan M

Even Bruce Greenwood does a great job at being a despicable human being.

Zane From Canada

Since you enjoyed this. Definitely check out High Crimes (2002) and Kiss The Girls (1997). Both starring Ashley Judd. Ones a courtroom drama, the other is a thriller. She's fantastic in both. Also, both star Morgan Freeman. 😁 Happy Mothers Day!

Dan M

Recruiting the assistance of Cassie’s mom…very clever! 😂

Matt Rose

Bruce Greenwood is one of my favorite actors. The man is versatile (can be a good guy or a bad guy with equal skill) and has one of those believable acting styles and always feels natural to me. He's frequently the best part of any film/show that he's in.

Matt Rose

KISS THE GIRLS is pretty solid.

MikeLL

This was another first time watch for me. It was pretty good action movie with some heart. If I remember correctly, when this movie came out Ashley Judd was an actress, and, afterward she was a Movie Star, with capital letters and everything!

MikeLL

Hmm, did a quick Google search, and that is how double jeopardy works. Can't be convicted of the same crime twice after either a conviction or an acquittal.

Just Plain Bob

MikeLL, the movie’s explanation of double jeopardy fundamentally misunderstands the doctrine. First, here’s what the actual double jeopardy clause of the Constitution says: “[N]or shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb...” Note that it says “for the same offence.” An offense is an action, predicated on a specific set of facts, not an outcome. The courts have ruled, repeatedly, that a person can’t be tried again for the same crime after being acquitted, can’t be tried again after a conviction (that is, the state can’t keep sending them to prison for the same offense again and again) and can’t be tried again after a mistrial in which a jury has already been seated and the fault of the mistrial lies with the prosecutor. Now, imagine if the doctrine were applied as depicted in the film. A bank robber, convicted and sentenced for robbing American Bank, could (upon release), treat that bank as his personal ATM, robbing it any time he needs more cash. After all, he’s already been convicted. A convicted sexual offender could assault the same victim over and over again when released. A husband, sent to prison for savagely beating his wife, could resume the abuse when released without fear of repercussion. Applying the doctrine correctly, if the film had said that (after parole) she couldn’t be convicted and sentenced again for her husband’s murder as a means of putting her back in prison as additional punishment FOR THE SAME OFFENSE, it would have been correct. But, killing him after being released is not the same offense. It’s a separate action with a separate set of facts and, therefore, a separate offense. But don’t listen to me. Just do a little more research. As one newspaper noted when the film was released: “a crime, for double jeopardy purposes, consists of a specific set of facts. Change the facts and you've got a new crime ... no one would believe that a person convicted of beating Richard Roe to a pulp on December 8th could avoid another conviction for tracking down poor Rich in February and whaling on him again."

Brent Petty

It's a decent flick. I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10. Double jeopardy doesn't work that way at all, but I'm a huge TLJ fan and this was Ashley Judd at peak hotness, so it gets a positive review from me.

Dan M

Totally agree. I feel the same way about Robert Deniro.

Carol Rocha

KISS THE GIRLS / w Morgan Freeman /mystery/thriller. You will love it!

Carol Rocha

Loved your reaction!! Just like a mom!! ❤️

Just Plain Bob

I’m just impressed they actually listened to a customer’s concerns. The Force must be strong in you.

Mojo One Thousand

Ashley Judd had a bit of a purple patch in late '90s, early 2000s. And, disproportionately in movies involving crime. "Heat" is another one that I don't think got mentioned, she was Val Kilmer's wife in it. It was about the same time as "A time to kill", a few years prior to this. I have mentioned this before, but with this being an Ashley Judd movie, it is relevant again. There is an Ashley Judd, Hugh Jackman movie right in the middle of the PIB wheelhouse. It is a rom-com from the early 2000s caled "Someone like you", I think it comes to mind everytime Cassie asks are there any she hasn't seen, as it surprises me she hasn't seen it.

Story Archer

There's no way two girls turn out like you and Carli without having an absolutely amazing mother. Happy Mother's Day to both of you.

Clay F

I just checked -- MGM+ has been removed. $3.99 rent and $4.99 buy on other services.

Story Archer

Yet another basic movie that isn't available on ANY streaming service without having to buy or rent. It's insane to think, with so many streaming services, so many films are still unavailable. Anybody ever see the TV series 'Missing' that starred Ashley Judd where she was a (former) CIA operative who's young son gets kidnapped and she goes rogue to find him? Kind of a reverse 'Taken'. Only ran for one season, but I thought it really showed her potential as a female action star/spy thriller type.

Clay F

So Just Watch was wrong. I notice your later comment above you got Just Watch to remove it. I have noticed tht Just Watch is occasionally wrong. Sometimes when a service (e.g., MGM+) drops a movie, Just Watch will lag in showing that update.

Clay F

I like Greenwood. Some of my favorites = Thirteen Days, Capote (2005), and Star Trek (2009), etc.

Larry Darrell

Which leads to another she hasn’t seen, with Hugh Jackman… Kate & Leopold (2001), starring Hugh Jackman, Meg Ryan and Liev Schreiber. Who wants to play 6 degrees of Rom-Coms Cassie hasn’t seen? ;-)

bgb1975 (Brian)

I think I'll always prefer having a hard-copy DVD or Blu-ray over a streaming service.

Clay F

Ashley Judd had her first on-screen kiss in her career in TNG S5E06 "The Game" (1991) -- she kissed the boy-wonder Wesley Crusher. She was cute in the 2 episodes of TNG she was in. Some of my favorite Ashley Judd movies: --Heat (1995) (you reacted to) (she was excellent) --She Said (2022) (she plays herself) --Ruby in Paradise (1993) --Barry (2016) (she w/emotional depth plays Barrack Obama's mother) --Frida (2002) In addition to being an actress, Ashley Judd (age 57) is a humanitarian, activist, and NY Times best-selling author. She's a leader in the #MeToo movement.

Clay F

Double Jeopardy Streaming (digital): $3.99 to rent. $4.99 to buy. The Missing (2012) (10 episodes) doesn't get the greatest reviews. Yet, the show was nominated for 2 Emmy awards. One for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie (Ashley Judd) and the other for Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special. You can buy digital The Missing (2012) (all 10 episodes) to stream on Amazon Prime for $19.99, or on Fandango for $14.99.

Chris Thom

Solid 90's thriller. The 90's sure knew how to make a good suspense film. A lot of great ones left for the channel. So curious what Cassie would think of BUG. One of Ashley Judd's most impressive performances ever but it's a truly gnarly story. Directed by the guy who brought us The Exorcist. So that tells you something. Michael Shannon also very good in it. Also the outro convinced me Enough from 2002 with Jen Lopez might be enjoyed here.

Chris Thom

That's weird. Would think this would be on a lot of them. I swear they know when Cassie is doing her reactions. lol

Chris Thom

It would freak her out I'm sure. But that movie is so fascinating. Personally I think that's the best acting she's ever done.

Chris Thom

Appealing to Cassie's mom is a tactic that may just be crazy enough to work.

Ted Whalen

I always liked seeing Ashley at the Indy500 race with Dario Franchitti.

Philip Alan

"Okay... C Block" - me thinking you're throwing out some jail terms. Nope. Made me laugh!

Ted Whalen

I had to listen to that twice to make sure I heard it correctly.

Joe J

I wonder if this 90s film will get decent YT views in say the first week or so. Gattaca and Cape Fear also seem to be struggling.

Cole Jennett

“Yes, I love 90’s movies!!”. Hands down, easily the best decade for movies in my opinion. I was thinking about this recently, just take the S’s! Shawshank Redemption, Saving Private Ryan, Shakespeare in Love, Schindler’s List, Sleepers, Sleepless in Seattle, Sabrina, Swingers, Speed, Starship Troopers, Scream, etc. I’m sure I missed a ton. I didn’t even mention Son in Law😂

Clay F

Glad you liked it. Engaged, attentive, "into it." Agree being trapped in coffin was "so so twisted." I liked acting of 3 talented leads. Ashley Judd great acting in each scene she in. Plus, she is "naturally" beautiful, as you noted. Bruce Greenwood did great. Hard not to like Tommy Lee Jones. Further, I like the setting of New Orleans. Love New Orleans. Been many times. An aspect I was neutral about was the reunification (final scene) with her kid, which I was looking forward to -- while Ashley Judd excellent acting, the scene was more flat than should have been. What I didn't like about the movie is how dumb the movie. For instance, made no sense for her as a cautious smart person to do all that reckless criminal stuff after she paroled -- she instead could have got the info she needed in other ways (and any criminal stuff could have been more cautious, less reckless). An aspect really bothered me is how the movie butchers (incorrect interpretation of) the Double Jeopardy Clause of the US Constitution. She could definitely be tried for a second murder of Nick not the same offense (different time, different place) as the first murder of Nick. Also, even the most simple-minded investigator would have immediately looked up a newspaper article with a pic of Nick to compare to Devereaux. You exclaimed "Look up a picture!". You mentioned newspaper article. Later, he gets driver's license. Movie = weak logic in delivery. Lastly, going deep inside the cemetery out of public view was such an obvious set up (she that dumb?) -- I almost turned the movie off at that point. I know she anxious to see her kid but surely she sensed the trap or at least something odd. "One of the dumbest chase thrillers ever to stumble onto the big screen." I rate the movie at 2/5 with Ashley Judd being captivating as a strong point. I definitely like Witness (1985) and October Sky (1999) better. Thank your mom for those two. Lion (2016) on your mom's list that tied for next to last place in the poll is 10X better. Great comments you had about your mom and you in the intro.

Darren Harrison

Yes. Who, despite his name, was Scottish. They even married in a Scottish castle.

Clay F

You list some of the best. I know you were joking about Son in Law (which is not one of the best) but turned out better (2.5/4) than I expected. Gave me a postive feeling. Glad I watched it.

TheSingulatarian

Cassie will be swearing like a sailor by the end of the year. I'm pretty sure I almost heard her say the F-word the other day.

djKENTO

The reason you don’t see Ashley Judd in many movies past the late 90s is that she was Harvey Weinstein’s first accuser. He sexually harassed her, she was vocal about it and he had her black listed from basically every big time project she attempted to get.

Rick Williams

It was great watching this movie with you, Cassie. It was great watching you get the payoff that you wanted at the end of the movie when she got her boy back. I haven't seen this movie since it first came out. I didn't remember most of it. It was great rediscovering this movie again. You need to help me rediscover more movie gems from the 90's. Great reaction, Cassie. You are one of a kind.

Mojo One Thousand

Hahaha Larry, I actually thought some would bring up "Kate & Leopold", as soon I typed 'Hugh Jackman'. I thought about bringing it up in my comment, but I didn't want to go down a rabbit hole and decided to leave it some that was at least adjacent because of Ashley Judd.

Brian's Dog

The only store clerks who didn't give Ashley Judd the confidential information she was looking for were ladies.

Nick Ireland

This was kind of a dumb movie, but I was entertained!

Brian Lowery

She, Annabella Sciorra, and Mira Sorvino basically had their careers destroyed by that creep. Sucks, because they are amazing actresses.

fastecp1

This was a fun movie. AJ has a few good movies from back then that I think you would like, but haven't seen. Kiss the Girls (1997), High Crimes (2002), Where the Heart Is (2000), Simon Birch (1998), and Normal Life (1996) are all movies that I have seen that are worth a watch. And I don't mind watching an Ashley Judd movie now and then; she's easy on the eyes.

Story Archer

Do you guys think it would be too much to suggest 'Peppermint'? Cassie loves Jennifer Garner (as does Carli), but... you know. I don't like recommending movies just because I really like them, I want to be sure that they will too, and that film is a bit... intense.

Story Archer

That's because they were the only ones capable of saying 'No'...

Chris Thom

Forgot she was in Where the Heart Is. Bet she'd like that. If she hasn't seen it already.

Chris Thom

She's all about prison humor. Kind of her thing.

Chris Thom

Thought I knew what you were referring to but I was thinking of Domino from 2005. Haven't seen Peppermint yet. Bet she'd like Jennifer Garner in most things though.

Philip Alan

yeah, you kinda have to suspend your disbelief a bit during this one.

Chris Thom

Lots of good ones. In all different genres too.

Chris Thom

Rose McGowen too. Loved her in Scream but it sucks to know that's probably where she met him.

Brian's Dog

If the older version of her kid looked familiar, it's Lucius from Gladiator.

Chris Thom

Looks like Leon is doing well.

Chris Thom

Very true. Even at fourteen it was like 'this can't be right'. Lol. But the actual experience of the movie is fun.

Shawn Kildal

Cassie didn't love Bruce Greenwood as the bad guy in this, but she did love him as Captain Christopher Pike in the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies.

Chris Thom

Just looked it up. There's exactly six video reviews of it on Youtube. Two are proper reaction vids. That's it.

Story Archer

I think it's a criminally under-rated film and the best role Jennifer Garner's ever played, but it's pretty brutal in a few places, especially for our ladies. Having said that, Cassie has really grown as a viewer - immeasurably, really - over the past few years, and the world of what she appreciates and enjoys has opened up a great deal.

Story Archer

I'm never going to forget watching her watch the first of those films and, at the beginning when she sees Chris Helmsworth's cameo, proclaiming 'What are all these hot people doing in Star Trek???'

Mojo One Thousand

Spencer Treat Clark had a run of being the little kid in a bunch of movies around this time.

Mojo One Thousand

I have thought about it because of the Jennifer Garner factor, but I have alway thought there are too many other movie that I would put in front of it. "Training Day" would be one example.

Ian Tonge

Usually my willingness to suspend disbelief depends on the tone of the movie, and how upfront it is about what I'll need to suspend my disbelief for, but in this case Ashley Judd was so great, and I was so invested in her, that I was happy to let all the silliness slide and just enjoy the ride. I enjoyed this reaction a lot, an excellent Mother's Day choice.

Milton Reduxed

Decent thriller. With a bit of finesse to the script and a better lead it could have been even better

Jason Henderson

Hope Mother’s Day was another great day for everyone!😊

Stephen Dias

It's funny, the things you remember about a movie that you haven't seen in years. With "Frequency," I remembered: guy talks to his deceased father over a ham radio and together, they change history for the better. Then, as I'm watching it, I remember: oh yeah, serial killer. With "Double Jeopardy," I remembered: conniving husband fakes his own death and wife is framed for it. I'd totally forgotten they had a child. So, the movie is about a mother who will do anything to get her son back (and also sticks it to her conniving husband). That ending is perfect. It really is a great Mother's Day movie. I didn't vote for it, but good job to those who did.

Dean Holt

Seen this about 4 or 5 times and still find it a great watch. Tommy Lee Jones was also amazing playing these types of roles in the 90s. I’ve said it a few times and I’ll say it again you need to watch US Marshals as he’s playing the same person he played in The Fugitive. Also rewatching this today made me think of another 90s thriller The Net with Sandra Bullock. The film is worth watching just to see how dated the Internet looked back then 😂. But I re-watched it fairly recently and I still thought it was very good.

phillip giroux

The pitfall of the death of physical media. I'm glad I ripped all my old DVDs onto a hard drive back in the day.

Gray

Going to be rather awkward when she tells him she just killed his dad, Entertaining film though the 90's we're great for these unique action/thrillers. Ngl there were a few scenes that were unintentionally funny like the chase through the dunes(obviously a studio) lol

David Collins

I don't know if anyone mentioned this and I've been ill for a while and lack the energy to search, but this was filmed in British Columbia, Canada.

K, Zachary

One thing that has changed thanks to Doris Tate is that victims can now sit in at parole hearings. Like Sharon's family sat in on Manson family parole hearings

YodatheHobbit

Wow, I think you just triggered a memory I had when I was younger hearing about that before I had any clue about who Weinstein was.

YodatheHobbit

This was one of the movies where even as an eight grader, I thought "is that really true???" Can't be tried for same crime twice? Of course I know now that's it's an oversimplification of logic. I remember enjoying it as a kid, and I enjoyed it a bit more now, although questioning multiple characters decisions still.

Jeff

OK finally got a chance to watch long with Cassie now that Double Jeopardy was added to Paramount+ in June. Enjoyed it even though, as pointed out in numerous comments, this is not how double jeopardy works legally. I have a lot of respect for Ashley Judd, both personally and professionally, and that is as political as I will get.

John A

Had not seen this one in a long time, it was what I remember not a great movie and not true on the law. Just alright movie to me. But glad to watch it again after all these years

PepperJack

what a piece of crap Captain Pike waas

LukeG84

Finally got around to watching this one. Better late than never! I know I have seen this movie before, but it was such a long time ago I remembered absolutely nothing about it, so this felt like a first watch instead of a second. I didn't even remember Tommy Lee Jones was in this movie, or who played the husband! It's a good movie, but I can see why I only ever watched it the once before. Back then (before Google) it would have been totally unbelievable to me that a convicted murderer would have been released on parole after only six years, and pole holes like that really eat at me. Crazy to think it wasn't a pole hole after all. I'm glad Cassie enjoyed this movie and got her happy ending. I think it's safe to say I won't be watching this movie for a third time, despite Ashley Judd's amazing performance.
