Hey guys,

Well I am writing you from Montana at my favorite place. We stayed a day on the way home to Utah, I thought we weren’t going to get to see this place this summer for the first time in 20 years but I finagled my way here for a day and it was the most needed, perfect day. I miss my boys though and am ready to be home. I have never been away from them this long before.

Summer is all of a sudden speeding by, 3 weeks left 🫠 Mixed Emotions. Mostly scared-big transition years for 2 of my 3 kids.

This week we have two winner picks with The Ghost and Mrs Muir and Cliffhanger and going to try out Henry C as Superman. Who has seen the new one? I’ve heard pretty great things? No Spois though!

A Steven Spielberg Poll went up today and it is Close encounters of three movies on there ;) Mske sure to vote! I hear you on doing more directors polls too! I’m also going to go live and do a PR poll 1-300 poll (or two) this weekend!

I want to let you know that with being back home tomorrow-the kids starting school in a few weeks- i’m hoping to be back to a little more consistency and regular scheduled programming. Copyright is killing us on any kind of schedule on YT but at least here we’re hoping for more spaced out uploads throughout the week!

Extra Butter Hang will be Monday july 28th at 5pm MST-thinking a watch along to either Into the Thunderdome or 1993 Bruce Lee Story? Thoughts?

I hope you all know how much you mean to me!

Cassie

Man of Steel!!! You’re gonna fall in love with him.

Edgar Gonzalez

Saw the new superman movie last week...it was way better than I thought it was going to be, and I will leave it at that in case the PIB fam hasn't seen it yet. ❤️

Erik Locquiao

Would the Bruce lee story eventually be uploaded to Patreon or YouTube? or would that be an extra butter exclusive?? Regardless - that should be watched with Carly if possible, you’ll both love it.

LukeG84

Really looking forward to Man of Steel. After that it’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, and then ‘Zack Snyder's Justice League’, pretty please🙏🏻

Matthew Brown

Man of steel??? Ok what the hack?!!! I...i... I actually want to watch that reaction!

Anthony Carlson

Here we go with Man of Steel!! The first step of the old DCU! Glad you had a good time back home in the Great North! And welcome back to the States once again!

David Freese

I think Superman ended up back than I expected and I definitely think it'll be better than Fantastic Four. Man of Steel is ok more of a different take but let's see what you think of it. No matter when or how I can't wait for more Max. Enjoy your week Cassie and everyone else.

David Freese

I try to not say negative things about movies because I hate when people do it but Batman v Superman and even Zack Justice League was a little lacking but if Cassie watches them make sure its Extended and Zack over the original Justice League

Stick Figure Studios

Haven't seen the new Superman movie yet, but really looking forward to it. I've heard very good things as it apparently gets right a lot of the things that MAN OF STEEL sadly got wrong. For the record, I did like MOS (particularly Henry Cavill as Superman), and it is definitely worth seeing, but I have a number of issues with both the film and Henry's interpretation of the character. I won't elaborate here until after you see the film, but I am curious to see what you think. GHOST AND MRS MUIR is a charming classic that I think you will enjoy. Teriffic cast. Rex Harrison (from MY FAIR LADY), Gene Tierney (one of the loveliest and most talented actressed ever to work on Hollywood) and George Sanders (one of my favorite British actors) are all great. Can't wait to see your reaction. CLIFFHANGER is a really thrilling 90s action movie that will literally take your breath away. I remember seeing it on the big screen and it had me by the throat from that iconic opening scene to the very last frame. Should be fun. Hope you all make it home safe. Keep up the good work. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

Followed by WONDER WOMAN, SHAZAAM, THE SUICIDE SQUAD and AQUAMAN.

Dave

Another solid slate of films this week! The Ghost and Mrs M , Cliffhanger, and Man of Steel should all be great watches for you, so enjoy - and don't worry too much, the kids are alright. They will settle in and do great! You're the best!

James UK

Looking forward to Cliffhanger. Great 90s action. I also remember enjoying Man of Steel at the time, although I haven’t seen it recently so my memory might be playing tricks on me.

AceofSpades501

I thought the new superman was meh, I thought James Gunn did great with The Suicide Squad, but I don't know if his style worked for a Superman movie.

DAVID COSTELLO

Can't wait for the Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Gene Tierney is great. Shame she had such a hard life. Laura is another great movie starring her.

Rick Moreno

Thunderdome! Thunderdome! Master Blaster rules Thunderdome!

Clay F

I remember the big transition years for my kids. Kids are resilient. You and your kids will be fine. You will feel good to get back home. Glad for the PR 1-300 poll. EXTRA BUTTER HANG. I vote for THUNDERDOME but would be ok with the 1993 Bruce Lee Story. CLIFFHANGER (will be a first watch for me). Looking forward to the stuntwork. I voted Three Kings in the poll but will give Cliffhanger a chance. THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR (will be a first watch for me). I am typically not into pre-1950 movies but do like expanding my horizon. I am interested to see Natalie Wood as a kid actor. MAN OF STEEL (will be a first watch for me). While I typically don't watch superhero movies, I am looking forward to Man of Steel b/c I am curious. Not looking forward to any excessive action, but hoping for good character development and a story that captures my attention and I connect with.

Mark Vaderr

Welcome almost home, Cassie! Looks like one more week to Bringing Up Baby? Yes, Summer is flying by. Almost time for football & Scary Not Too Scary October. Glad to hear that you are enjoying yourself. Take care!

Rod Reavern

All right, "Cliffhangar" is a classic '90s action movie. Having been raised in that time period, it seems a little strange that Cassie watched "Demolition Man" before "Cliffhanger," but at least she didn't watch "Judge Dredd" instead. There's no reason to watch that one -- I regret even mentioning it. If Cassie does watch a Judge Dredd movie, it should be "Dredd" (2012). If it helps, it stars Karl Urban from "The Lord of the Rings" and Lena Headey "Game of Thrones" -- and Olivia Thirlby from "Juno" (before she apparently fell off the face of the Earth; what a shame, she was so cute). I suppose Cassie "needs" to watch "Man of Steel" to complete her Superman film checklist. Although, since James Gunn has rebooted the franchise, technically it's unnecessary to watch any of the DCEU movies. TBH MoS isn't bad. It was a victim of Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy's success, because the empty suits at WB assumed DC Comics fans wanted a dark and gritty Superman movie, which was utterly wrong. Regardless, Henry Cavill most embodied Superman, and he could have been incredible if he had been given better material to work with, and smiled a little more. Considering that Cassie watched the animated "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" film, perhaps she's open to watching some of the Superman animated films from the past 30 years, because there are many worth watching. I recommend: "All-Star Superman," "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse" (also starring Supergirl) and "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" (also featuring Power Girl).

Charles Briggs

I disagree with saying they were lacking in my opinion all three were masterpieces but anyway I do agree if she watches Batman V Superman to make sure it's the ultimate edition same with the snyder cut Zack Snyder's Justice League is leagues better than Josh Whedons garbage film Josstice League

Charles Briggs

Yes most anticipated reaction on this channel outside of the Lethal Weapon series hey cassie just go in with a open mind with Man of Steel it's very different from the Christopher Reeves films and you should like it hopefully🤞 one more thing if you watch Batman V Superman (2016) after this please make sure it's the ultimate edition not the theatrical cut 👍

Bill Maurer

YES !!!!!! Man of Steel !!!!! Big Thanks for reacting to that one. Hopefully you can finish Snyderverse and let us know what you think. MoS is vastly underrated and not appreciated As always, my best to you and your family, friends and love ones

Clay F

Good point. Thanks for reminding me. I liked both the movie (Miracle on 34th Street) and the full reaction. Below is what I posted 7 months ago in the comments on her full reaction to Miracle on 34th Street: "First watch of the movie for me. I liked it. Plus, your reaction was infectious. I like the scene early in the movie when Kris Kringle spoke with the Dutch orphan in Dutch (that's the kind of special moment that a kid actually experiencing would remember). I haven't watched that many Christmas movies. I thought this sweet and heartwarming. Also, seemed like a true Christmas movie." "I forgot that Natalie Wood (who played Susan) was a child actor. As you may know, she was in several big movies before her mysterious death in 1981. I thought the casting for the fake psychiatrist was good -- he played his part well. I don't know the 'To Market' song. Lastly, I recognized right away William Frawley (who played the political adviser to the judge) from 'I Love Lucy' and 'My Three Sons' -- two TV series I watched a lot as a kid."

Steven Perez

Loved the new SUPERMAN film by James Gunn. It's a vast tonal difference from MAN OF STEEL, and light years better than BATMAN V SUPERMAN, which I thought was dour and depressing. I can't wait to see what else James Gunn and Peter Safran have to offer.

Rod Reavern

I agree, James Gunn's new Superman movie was "meh." It reminded me of the first Aquaman movie, wherein the writer/director crammed in too many elements, supposedly because he wasn't confident there'd be a sequel. The new Superman movie was overstuffed to the nth degree, to the detriment of Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane, who had amazing chemistry with the Superman/Clark Kent actor, but it was a disappointingly small part of the movie! The problem was that the empty suits at WB chose James Gunn as their equivalent of Kevin Feige, giving him free rein to create the new DC film universe, and allowed him to indulge his craziest instincts. It was too much for one movie. Ironically, the Gunn's Superman movie might benefit from a 4-four "Snyder Cut" that gave more screentime to characters like Lois Lane.

Clay F

Agree, thumbs down for Judge Dredd. Man of Steel -- is below true in your opinion? "Predictable action crushes character & story. If all you want is blockbuster action it's there and Cavill wins Best Looking Superman. If you want more revisit a Dark Knight."

Clay F

She may instead do Thunderdome (not the Bruce Lee story) at the extra butter exclusive. My guess is which ever one she does, the reaction itself will be uploaded to Patreon and the edit to YouTube. I think unlikely Carly will be there but who knows. Do you agree with this assessment of the Bruce Lee Story below? "While its impact is blunted by an overly reverential approach to its subject, 'Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story' remains a reasonably entertaining biopic of the martial arts legend."

Clay F

I watched "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947) for the first time about 7 months ago.

Johnny

Man of Steel was really good and I'm glad she's finally watching it. I saw Cliffhanger in the theater when I was in the Navy, and it was a lot of fun. This is a good week of reactions.

Philip Alan

Mr Terrific was... terrific.

Archronos

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is a wonderful film that doesn't get enough praise

Mike Lemon

"Copyright is killing us on any kind of schedule on YT" Rumble is still waiting over there to be a backup and hasn't had an upload for seven months, excepting the two marathons.

K, Zachary

I was golfing with my buddies last week. One of them I have seen a ton of horror movies with. He was asking have I and my gf Eva still loving our reactioners. I was like yeah they don't compete with each other so its good. He asked me about the Popcorn pick of the month. I cringed but I said well it's a movie we have seen before. The Ghost and Mrs Muir. He was like what's so special about that one? I was like it has a very young Natalie Wood in it. He agreed. Last month I skipped a movie which I rarely skip Cassie reaction movies. Even if I clearly don't like the movie We will still end up watching it. However my gf Eva said D&D was a deal breaker. No comment on why we it was. I do that on my YouTube channel. Which I always praise Cassie and the PIB. As our respect as gone through roof for everyone at PIB. I show it. So yeah we will be watching all three this week. I guess we will have to wait till next week for The Pianist. 🙏 We saw the new Superman, which we loved. It was nothing like watching Caitlin Clark vs Paige Bueckers live in person. That was one of the best things I have ever seen. I have said enough I have our Siberian husky pawing at me telling me to go back to sleep. 💤😴.

Stuart Guthrie

Well Cassie you mean a lot to your patrons too. My vote is for Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.

Shehab Dawoud

I like the new Superman. Fun, good performances. A little bit too much on the cartoonish side, though. The colors were a bit too bright, as well. 8.3/10. Go watch it in IMAX.

Jacob King

Loved the new Superman. It’s spot on for the feel of a DC comic. They really nailed the world and the supporting characters especially Jimmy and Lois. It’s genuinely funny too. As they say in Shakespeare in Love, all the audience wants is “love triumphant and a bit with a dog.”

Grégory Gautier

“The Ghost and Mrs Muir” and “Cliffhanger” the first I haven't seen, I'm curious to watch it too and the second a great classic, I look forward to your reaction!

Doc Larry/old geezer

I’m glad you had a chance to vacation a way to refresh and recharge. I personally think the movie Dragon a Bruce Lee story would be a fun watch. i’d like it was based on the book Bruce Lee: The Man Only I Knew. by Linda Lee even with all the challenges, this has been a fun summer watching the channel. Nice variations of movies from different generations and genres.

Choof

Loved the new Superman, fun, colorful, silly in the best way and they nailed the casting for every part.

Richard Maurer

Just saw the new Superman on Tuesday. Really good, but not as good as as Thunderbolts

Richard Maurer

I’m fine with watching Man of Steel, it’s a decent movie and if nothing else it will clear another movie out of the Popcorn Requests top 50. But the new James Gunn Superman movie is better.

Richard Maurer

When I saw in the trailer that Krypto was in it I was afraid he was going to be another baby Groot (who was fun, but we don’t need another one). Fortunately they made Krypto work.

Walter

Man Of Steel is a very good scifi movie but not (in MY opinion) a great SUPERMAN movie. But I'm not a fan of exploring a darker, "gritty" Superman. I love the new Superman. It's a wild film at times - very comic book inspired - and it really worked for me.

Andrew Heller

I dont understand the hate that man of steel gets….i thought it was a good movie but people really loath it, and henry cavill is great

OddThomas

Man of Steel is great. The new Superman was a fun popcorn movie but that's all.

Antmovies

I actually just watched CLIFFHANGER. It's one of the rare Stallone movies I hadn't seen. I've seen the new SUPERMAN. It's nothing like the others. It's a James Gunn movie through and through. I list MAN OF STEEL as one of my worst movies ever. I really didn't like how they portrayed the character. If they'd been obvious about going in a new direction like Gunn has been that'd be one thing but they didn't. But that's what's weird in an odd way Gunn has set Supes bad to a more popcorn vibe because Nolan/Snyder wanted to 'Dark Knight' Superman which never made sense.

Richard Maurer

Dredd (2012) is definitely better than the Stallone “version”, which isn’t the character at all.

Rod Reavern

@Clay F: More or less, yes. I appreciated the deeper dive into what happened on Krypton, and Russell Crowe was excellent as Jor-El. But the whole thing about him infusing "the codex" into (NO SPOILERS) no sense... other than it being the MacGuffin that General Zod came to Earth for. That, and Jonathan Kent's uncharacteristic advice and nonsensical decision to rescue (NO SPOILERS). The script was BAD. The dark tone, both visually and thematically, were BAD, and not appropriate for Superman. There's more that I'd characterize as bad, but no spoilers. The movie's only redeeming qualities are: 1) The incredible action (destruction); and 2) The casting was excellent. Amy Adams was great as Lois Lane, but I'll take more of Rachel Brosnahan, thank you!

Andrew R

Yes to Bruce Lee watch-a-long!

MikeLL

Of course I'm on the lookout for Bringing Up Baby info, but I will try to have the same patience I've had all this time! 😂😂😂😂 I had honestly forgotten that The Ghost and Mrs Muir would be up first. Is it weird that two movies chosen in PAF so close together would be older moves about life after death??? Is it weird? Looking forward to that reaction, and to everything this week. I saw the new Supes movie on Tuesday and really liked it. They really paid homage to the old John Williams score. I'm sure over time I will end up liking Gunn's new Superman movie over the Cavil movies. Cliffhanger will be a thrill a minute. And very scary!

Michael G

Nolan is an empty suit? You might want to check out who wrote the movie.

Michael G

By the nature of an adaptation of a character that has been adapted 1000+ different times, there is no “right or wrong” for what is presented

aarswft

I can already tell you they will be distracted by Kevin Costner and miss how dumb his role is.

Andrew Mote

Man of Steel is by far and away the worst Superman movie.

Just Plain Bob

Agree about Man of Steel. I like Henry Cavill and think he could’ve done a good job. But I don’t think Zack Snyder understood the character at all. Supes is all about hope. Instead, we got a film that’s dark and gritty with apocalyptic destruction.

Alex

Excited for Cliffhanger, haven't seen it in a long time

Steve Holton

Glad you got to enjoy beautiful Montana! Thanks for including Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story on the schedule. It is actually my pick a flick for this month so it’s the art of winning without winning. Or a finger pointing to the moon, or something. Really enjoyed the new Superman film. Both different from other Superman stories, but also explores the useful questions raised by the mythology. It did bring to mind another recent great Superman film, “DC League of Super-Pets” from 2022 which I also really loved. Keanu Reeves is hilariously fun as Batman in it. 😊

Andrew R

It gets bonus points because Cassie will actually enjoy the story and romance.

Robert Jewell

That lovely Mrs. Muir is what I'm looking forward to the most. Bravo to whomever suggested it! I love Montana too. We used to go to Red Lodge quite a lot.

Mike Redford

Cliffhanger! Classic Stallone, and one of john lithgow's wilder performances lol. I'm glad you didn't miss out on montana. Been enjoying my little beach vacation here in VA. Saw the new supes film the other day. Enjoyed it. True, summer's speeding by. Luckily I'm mostly a fall fan lol

Silver Machine

Count me among the Man of Steel haters. But I’m curious to see Cassie’s reaction to it. Fortunately the new James Gunn Superman is terrific!

Ted Whalen

Mike- are you at Va Beach?

Sam R.

aww big hugs on the family things going on , glad you had a great trip its been a blessed summer. Hey your EB hang is on my Birthday 😁 im not extra butter but I do love you and your channel I prom prom 🥰😄

Joe J

Thanks for Man of Steel, fantastic movie. You'll love it.

Flounder

Please do a Steven Soderbergh poll!

Anthony K.

Man of Steel should be an interesting reaction! I’m very mixed on it, in that there are things that I enjoyed, and things that I hated. Can’t wait to rewatch it, though! I hope you react to Superman 2025 as soon as it comes out on Digital! You’ll love it!

Gray

Only seen Cliffhanger which I know while be an entertaining reaction, Extra Butter is good timing for me I don't mind which film should be fun either way.

Dan Holmes

check out That Old Feeling pls a 90s Rom Com you will Love also Away We Go pls A 2000s Rom Dram you will Love :)

Joe J

For Extra Butter, I much prefer Thunderdome.

Steve Holton

When he was 14 years old Steven Soderbergh wrote an impassioned letter to Universal asking to be able to direct the upcoming "Jaws 2".

Choof

Im more interested in Man of Steel as part of your superman journey rather than a superman movie which i find quite poor. The new Superman movie does everything right that Man of Steel does wrong.

Joe J

I find Man of Steel much more to my taste than the new one. I hope Cassie continues with Batman vs. Superman and Justice League.

Joe J

On the May 13 Pollception, the "Another Director" poll received only 5% of votes. Patrons wanted this specific Spielberg Poll, but that doesn't correlate to any general desire for more director polls.

Stan the Man

Oh wow. Could Zack Snyder’s Justice League be far behind? Or Batman V Superman? Interesting times.

Ted Whalen

So I am still not too sure if the weekly message is the right place for this post, but I will give it a try. Believe it or not, most of the NFL teams will open their training camps this coming week (which means the season is right around the corner). I wanted to see if there is any interest in doing an NFL season survivor pool (the winner gets to submit five movies, and Cassie picks only one). If you are unfamiliar with survivor pools, you pick a team each week to win a game (you don’t have to worry about the betting spread), and if your team wins, you advance to the next week. The catch is that you cannot pick the same team twice. This leads to having to develop some pool strategy as you figure out your survivor pick each week. If you pick one team in the first week, they cannot be used for the rest of the season. I know that the NCAA March Madness pool has been popular, so I thought that this maybe a good option for the NFL season. I know that there are a couple of good sites (no fees) that can be used to manage the pool. Please note that there will not be any hurt feelings if you all don’t like this idea (I just had this idea as I am relaxing at Duck Beach).

Joe J

100% agree Michael. For me, it's like saying the color blue is better than the color red, lol.

Just Plain Bob

I like the idea but I’d prefer college football (huge Tennessee fan). Also, unless Cassie’s on board it wouldn’t work (obviously).

Thatmfalan

Heck yeah more superman movies!! I have love hated relationship with Man of steel it's a good superhero movie but not a good superman movie (respectfully)

Rene G.

Sorry, new Superman 2025 sucks. Full of unnecesssary jokes that didn't hit as funny. And his parents turne into General Zod copy cats. FML

Stick Figure Studios

@Michael: I can understand that way of thinking and to some degree I sympathize with it, but ultimately I respectfully disagree. Obviously there can be some flexibility in adapting certain characters, but some adaptations are better than others and ones that violate the core principles of the character's identity I would argue demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of the character, which was my issue with Snyder and his take on Superman.

Stick Figure Studios

@Joe: But the color blue *is* better than the color red sometimes depending on what's being colored.

Grad

"I hear you on doing more directors polls too!" A director's debut poll? Another chance for Duel if it doesn't win the Spielberg poll. Edit: Maybe the idea was to get some other directors into the mix ...

Ted Whalen

Bob- agree that Cassie needs to be on board. How are the Vols looking this year (I am sure that you are not a fan of Nico).

kaiielle

Alright, this will be when I give Man of Steel a first rewatch, watching along with you. 😊 I'm glad you had a great time in Montana and your boys will be thrilled to have you back! I always forget that it's a lot more common in the US to have kids go back to school in the first half of August, so when you said there is 3 weeks of summer left I had a mild panic. 😅 I'm crossing my fingers that the copyright checks on YouTube get better. It's been a lot more brutal for most lately. 😭 Have a great week!

Just Plain Bob

It’s hard to tell about my Vols. It’s an open qb competition and no one knows what to expect from the position. How much of their difficulty with the deep ball the last two years is the qb’s fault vs receivers fault vs defensive adjustments? We’ll find out in six weeks, I guess. Out of curiosity, who’s your team(s) of choice?

Kim Brink

Did you miss the no spoilers :) But yes, did not like it that much either.

Just Plain Bob

And, no, I can’t stand Nico or his POS father. Leaving is one thing. But waiting until the end of training camp, after you’ve taken ALL the first team reps and trying to hold the team hostage? That’s real scumbag behavior. It is funny that he got half of what he wanted in his NIL contract and less than he was making in Knoxville. 😂

Just Plain Bob

Re: director’s poll. YES PLEASE. But only Hitchcock as an option. Then do a Hitchcock poll, but with a twist. Poll his most popular remaining twelve movies. Then watch them all, in the order they finished on the poll. One a week for three months. That would be heavenly.

Clay F

Thanks Rod for reply. I love Any Adams.

Richard Maurer

It’s a good elseworlds (alternate reality Superman, for those who don’t read comics). In the comics there several “dark” versions of Superman. Red Son Superman, Ultraman, etc.

Richard Maurer

Ted - it’s as good a place as any now.

Ted Whalen

Bob- you probably will not like this…..but I am a huge Ohio State fan. Both of my parents are from Ohio and typically we would head back to Columbus to catch a game every year. I am heading to Columbus at the end of August for the Texas game.

Alex Villarreal

I knew Cliffhanger would be a lead in the poll, but never realized how much it would win by.

The Star Treker (aka Michael)

I'm really glad you're watching Man of Steel, Cassie — and it's awesome to hear you had a great time in Montana, while looking forward being home, I don't blame you! Lol. I've always liked Man of Steel a lot, but honestly, it doesn't top the new Superman for me. Same with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and even Justice League (including Zack Snyder's Cut) — none of them hit me the way the new Superman does. This new version feels way more comic-accurate, lighter, and family-friendly — kind of like the spirit of Christopher Reeve's Superman, but still fresh. That said, I still really appreciated Henry Cavill's take in the DCEU/Snyderverse. But I'm loving David Corenswet even more as the new Superman in James Gunn's DCU. And I seriously can't wait for the next DCU movie next year! 😊

Doug Law

Follow up The Aviator with Melvin and Howard. Melvin Dummar from Willard, UT claimed that while driving a desert road in NV he picked up a stranded old man who said he was Howard Hughes. Dummar gave the guy a ride to Las Vegas. Hughes died about 10 yrs later. Dummar then claimed to have a copy of Hughes' will leaving 1/16 of his estate to Dummar and 1/4 to the Mormon Church.

Stephen Dias

Oh, nice! I love me some "Man of Steel." Also, it's been years, but I remember enjoying "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir." I have not seen "Cliffhanger," but I look forward to it. Will it fill me joy-joy feelings like "Demolition Man?" We'll see. Oh, and yes, I saw the new Superman movie. It was fun. I'd definitely watch it again.

Popcorn In Bed

i’m thinking we might do duel for a carly watch in October?

Happy Hanukkah

Maybe. Or it could just be a single-movie prelude to the new one.

Stick Figure Studios

It's getting easier to spot who are the Superman fans and who are the Snyder/Cavill fans.

Stick Figure Studios

A flawed movie certainly, but that's a bold claim in a world where SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE exists.

Stick Figure Studios

I literally said the same thing in my comment. I actually kind of like MAN OF STEEL and can respect it's ambition and distinctive take on the character, but Zack Snyder fundamentally misunderstands Superman and that hurts the film and Cavill's interpretation significantly.

Richard Maurer

Cassie - Duel isn’t a horror movie, it’s an action suspense film, but whatever.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, it's not without its good qualities, but it is problematic to be sure.

Just Plain Bob

I actually like some of Snyder’s work. I thought his remake of “Dawn of the Dead” was very good (and I’m not a fan of remakes, generally speaking). Ironically, it was written by James Gunn. I also thought “300” was a neat, stylistic exercise. And I loved “Watchmen”, although it seems sometimes that I’m the only one that does. And I say that as a fan of the comic. I thought he did a great job of adapting it; in fact, I thought he improved on the ending. But, his DC stuff was awful. Gaping plot holes, characters changed beyond recognition, character motivations that made no sense whatsoever (Martha, really?), etc. And I don’t even like DC Comics (other than Batman, which is an awesome character). I’ve always been a Marvel fan. But, I know enough about DC to know he got it completely wrong. (Plus, I did read some of the comics. I was a kid and they were comic books. What was I gonna do? Not read them?)

Happy Hanukkah

Robert Fuest? Wasn't he involved with The Avengers?! I *love* the MCU!!!

Happy Hanukkah

Spielberg? I thought that was Ridley Scott! :-P

Happy Hanukkah

"I was a kid and they were comic books. What was I gonna do? Not read them?" You were meant to put on latex gloves, bag and board them, and put them in indexed comic boxes kept in their own dedicated closet where they would appreciate astronomically in value until you went to college and your mother threw them out. Duh.

K, Zachary

I got accused of being insensitive. Weather I am or not is not the question. Judging by the responses I got. My gf Eva said this whole response has been completely ruined. It's none of our business but my gf explained it to me that. We understand what your going through well kind of we left Indy a day early because my gf missed her dogs. No it's the same, we know but we look at our dogs as our kids so we can appreciate it. My gf Eva said "Well it's not just her kids I am sure she misses her husband too" I got hand it to you on that one Cassie if I went two days without my gf Eva. I would be shaking like a leaf. Like I said before as a couple that's only lived together for six months. Well practically six months since. We havent been apart from each other for more than a couple of days. In over a year. We are learning a lot from you guys. I just want to say thank you. We apologize for the responses that ruined this.

Happy Hanukkah

"Dredd" with Karl Urban? Surely you mean RED (2010)! :-)

Stick Figure Studios

A directors debut poll would be fantastic because it would also allow for such films as CITIZEN KANE (Orson Welles), BADLANDS (Terrence Malick), BLOOD SIMPLE (The Coens), THE 400 BLOWS (Francois Truffaut), BREATHLESS (Jean-Luc Godard), THE MALTESE FALCON (John Huston), SEX LIES AND VIDEOTAPE (Steven Soderbergh), PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE (Tim Burton), THIEF (Michael Mann) and HARD EIGHT (Paul Thomas Anderson)

Joe J

Can Carly handle Duel, I'm serious (haha), I don't know ?

Philip Alan

Have you seen Superman 4?? Man Of Steel is fine. Very entertaining.

Philip Alan

Henry made a fantastic Superman. I really enjoyed MOS.

Philip Alan

Thunderbolts was just so great. Two different movies.

Joe J

Kaiielle - Maybe reach out to "The Media Knights". They do the patron full-lengths and post on YT a few days later. Never seem to have any copyright delays posting to YT. Do they have a secret (haha)?

Andrew Mote

Yes I’ve seen all of them, Man of Steel straight up changes who and what Superman is and does. It’s a garbage movie.

Clay F

Sorry Zachary -- I deleted my reply immediately after posting it -- you are quick.

Clay F

Apparently, the leopard was declawed. The leopard's trainer stood off-screen with a whip for all of its scenes. The movie got a little goofy for me toward the end. I prefer The Philadelphia Story but truly/curiously looking forward to giving Bringing Up Baby another chance.

Just Plain Bob

Where were you with this advice when I could of used it? Could have sold them and made a mint. Instead, I had to work thru college and take out student loans. Thanks a lot!

MikeLL

I wouldn’t even mention the L word because Cassie has not seen the movie and has no idea what it is about.

kaiielle

@Joe - Their secret is most likely that they prepare their edited versions ahead of sharing the full-length on Patreon. Cinebinge does this - they've always shared their full-lengths and edited versions at the same time because they record weeks in advance of sharing the reactions to their members, which then also gives them plenty of time to deal with copyright.

Stick Figure Studios

Ah, so I think I understand your criteria better now then. A well-made movie (in terms of dialogue, visuals, cinematography, music, editing and performances) that changes the character is worse than a poorly made movie that doesn't change the character? I can understand that, even if I don't agree with it. For me, there is more to a Superman movie -- any Superman movie -- than just Superman.

Stick Figure Studios

@Bob: I actually like a lot of Snyder's work too. I've been a defender of him for a while, but I still think he was ultimately the wrong choice to make a Superman movie.

Stick Figure Studios

I am one of those weirdos who actually prefers the Stallone Dredd film to the Karl Urban one, but then I am not familiar at all with the source material. At any rate, both films are likely to be superior to the one that apparently Tyka Waititi is going to direct.

Richard Maurer

HH - it would have to have been MCU phase 1 (2008 - 2012). Robert Fuest died in 2012. The MCU is highly underrated.

Andrew Mote

Bro can you relax? In your opinion it had better visuals, dialogue, music, etc. I disagree with every bit of that. Snyder fan boys just need to chill out if other people don’t like the movie.

Rod Reavern

@Michael G: Are you being deliberately obtuse? Nolan is a Creative, not a suit. Nolan had nothing to do with MoS. It was WB empty suits' braindead idea to copy Nolan's dark tone for their vision of Superman, which totally didn't work. I'm well aware that David S. Goyer wrote both "Batman Begins" and MoS, but he did NOT write "TDK" or "TDKR." Goyer ALSO wrote "Batman-Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Jumper," "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" and "Terminator: Dark Fate." If you review Goyer's writing credits, he has about a 50-50 hit to miss ratio; he is only as good as the director he works with. Many of MoS's problems were in the script, and Zack Snyder didn't have the good sense to say "Superman wouldn't do that, rewrite this."

Chris Thom

Welcome home! Or to your US home at least. These polls on the channel remind how good some of the movies that lose are. Some don't do so well with votes, but they're still very much worth seeing. I think it's important to remember that.

Rod Reavern

@Happy Hanukkah: I referenced a Karl Urban movie I knew Cassie had seen. I don't recall PiB having a "RED" movie reaction, so I assume she hasn't seen it. But Cassie should, it's a lot of fun!

Chris Thom

Hope she watches the Snyder Cut if she gets to Justice League. It really is better. By quite a bit.

LukeG84

Agreed. I mentioned it (and the run time) on the Superman Returns post and Cassie liked it, so I’m sure it’s on her radar.

Steve Holton

"You're not the only one" 🎶

Chris Thom

Joy Ride (2002) has some similarities to Duel. That might be perfect for October. Do think it would freak out Carly, though. A lot of suspense, in similar form to What Lies Beneath. Also Pg-13 I think, but not sure.

Richard Maurer

Saw a reaction I never thought I’d see, You,Me,and the Movies watched Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer. The movie that put Michael Rooker on the map. Warning to anyone thinking of checking it out - this movie is BRUTAL. Henry will never appear on PiB, with good reason.

Just Plain Bob

I saw the wife on that reaction channel get really, really angry over something they watched one time. She blamed it on hubby and asked how he could have her watch something like that. Don’t even remember now what it was. But I’m curious, how did she react?

Richard Maurer

Like many people, they both thought it was a hard movie to watch, but also a well made one, and they thought Rooker was really good in it.

Bill W

Into The Thunderdome? Did you mean Beyond Thunderdome??

Chris Thom

Vaguely remember Siskel and Ebert giving that a good review.

Richard Maurer

Chris - They did, along with a number of other critics. That’s the thing about this movie - it’s a well-made movie, but it’s also unflinching about showing killings and other depraved acts. I’m a horror movie veteran and I found this one to be a hard watch, because it’s very much grounded in reality, and the horrible things that occur seem to be almost normal parts of life to the movie’s characters. Like I said it’s not a movie to go into lightly. I don’t really consider this a horror movie anyway. It’s more a drama with horrific subject matter.

Chris B.

Man of Steel, nice! The movie is excellent, and Henry is in my top 3 Superman actors (after Chris Reeve and Dean Cain), although really all the Superman actors and voice actors have been good so far IMO, including the new guy. FYI: if you decide to continue with more Henry Cavill Superman movies, I recommend the Ultimate Edition for Batman V Superman, and the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Yes both are longer movies, but BvS actually flows much better as a story with the added and expanded story scenes, and the Snyder Cut for Justice League is the only one that makes sense (the theatrical version of Justice League is a terrible way to experience that movie; it’s like watching a manic and nonsensical youtube edit or madlib version of what Zack Snyder actually filmed for the movie).

Happy Hanukkah

/"joke" He worked on The Avengers (aka Diana Rigg) TV series. I wouldn't say the MCU is underrated so much as tragically obscure. If only they had hired some better-known actors! Oh well, I have not yet abandoned hope that some reactor somewhere will react to one of the MCU movies and that this will open the floodgates.

Clay F

I may watch that.

Happy Hanukkah

I somehow didn't read your watch-along question properly. My thought? As long as you do watch The Bruce Lee Story sometime soon, I don't much care. I'll note that this movie is more likely to have people filling the chat with "ackshooaly" trivia, for better or worse.

Clay F

I was 26 when that song was released in 1989. I remember that the Rolling Stones were considered ancient at the time but still were very successful.

Happy Hanukkah

Look, Bill, we're all familiar with the song, and it quite clearly says "Into The Thunderdome"! Highway to the Thunderdome Ride into the Thunderdome Highway to the Thunderdome Gonna take it right into the Thunderdome...

Bill W

Oh right... by AC/DC!

Bill W

....as long as it's not Bio-Dome.

Richard Maurer

I got the joke, HH. I even mentioned his work on The Avengers series in a post I made about The Final Programme awhile back. That’s why I added the MCU is underrated “joke”. (?) Maybe I’m a little off my game lately, for some reason.

Jason Pratt

Glad you got your Montana fix- I’ll be visiting up there in October. Time to get my back tattoo started.

Daniel Karlsson

Since The Philadelphia Story will probably never win a poll I hope you will pick it as your PPOTM. Romantic comedy with James Stewart, Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant.

Gardner von Holt

One of my all-time favorites. Definitely seconding this recommendation

Richard Maurer

Clay - just so you know what you’re getting into, it’s not just gory murders - there’s a lot of SA involved too.

Ted Whalen

100% agree…..it is a really good movie!

Ted Whalen

This is just a general movie recommendation for everyone- My Mother Jayne is a great documentary about Jayne Mansfield. The movie is directed by Jayne’s daughter Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order).

Joe J

Kaiielle - I thought that might be the case. Interestingly, The Media Knights don't provide YT edits at all on Patreon. Other than providing the full-lengths, they don't seem very active on Patreon at all.

Just Plain Bob

Yeah, it’s a rough movie but very deserving of the acclaim. It kinda reminds me of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. They’re both very raw and very real which makes them grueling experiences. These aren’t “comfy, cozy” films.

Richard Maurer

JP Bob - I agree, except to say that Henry is on a whole other level as far as how graphic it is, compared to Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Grad

Stick Figure Studios: That's a good list. I'll add The Lives of Others (2006).

Just Plain Bob

I would love it if “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” makes it on a Halloween poll. Mostly because it would be fun watching all the people that have never seen the movie telling Cassie that it’s nothing but gore.

Kristian

I'm sure she would enjoy The Philadelphia Story. Carly, too!

Kristian

Please do a Hitchcock poll, if you do more director's polls! He's got a lot of great ones!

Richard Maurer

Yeah, problem is they might actually convince her, like they did with The Fly.

Chris Thom

Been wondering about that. She's been doing the rounds on the talk shows. Is that on a streamer?

James M

People do react to his best known work: "Rear Window", "Psycho", "North by Northwest". Still I would like to see a reaction to "Lifeboat", "Shadow of a Doubt", or "The Trouble with Harry". There are so many good films he made that fall under the radar.

Ted Whalen

Chris- I watched it through HBO Max.

MikeLL

I've mentioned this a ton of times and would like to see it too. It's just that we are getting Bringing Up Baby first. But when the Bringing Up Baby reaction drops, it will be the perfect time in the comments to say " Well you liked this one Cassie, and you'll like to see them again in The Philadelphia Story, and Jimmy Stewart is in it too!"

Katie Sivak

Please watch I Know What You Did last Summer and Silver Bullet

Stick Figure Studios

LIFEBOAT and SHADOW OF A DOUBT would be great. STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, REBECCA, TO CATCH A THIEF, ROPE, NOTORIOUS, DIAL.M FOR MURDER, I CONFESS and FAMILY PLOT would also all.be good.

Stick Figure Studios

But MALTESE FALCON was his first film. Read my comment again.

Stick Figure Studios

Oh, I seriously wasn't being glib in my comment. If it sounded that way, I apologize. I was just trying to parse out how someone could possibly think that MOS is "garbage" and "far and away the worst Superman movie ever." That kind of extreme hyperbolic language just sounds overly simplistic and emotive to me. It suggests a whole different set of criteria in evaluating all the different elements in a Superman movie than I use myself, so I was genuinely trying to understand what kind of thinking would lead to those conclusions. So, don't worry about me. If I don't sound relaxed, I can assure you that I am. I'm also definitely not a Snyderbro/bot/,fan. I don't hate the guy, but I do have serious issues with him as a filmmaker (I've defended him against haters and criticized him with actual Snyderbros) as I have a number of issues with the film, but to think that it is "worse" than SUPERMAN IV (which, though it has a better actor playing Superman and a more faithful interpretation of the character, Is inferior in virtually every other way) just sounds ludicrous to me. To give you the benefit of the doubt as much as possible, I'm guessing you probably haven't watched SUPRMAN IV In a long time because then you would be reminded of what an embarrassingly and incompetently made product it is (seriously, it makes MOS, a deeply flawed film in its own right, look like CITIZEN KANE). I have no difficulty accepting that other people don't like MOS, but I think that it's possible some people hate it so much that their anger and disdain blinds them to the film's actual merits. Going forward, you probably don't want to suggest that just because someone likes the movie that he is a Snyderbro. That kind of assumption does not help your case when you criticize the film because, despite my defense of it here, I acknowledge there are valid criticisms that can be leveled at it... I just think that there are far more criticisms that can be leveled at SUPERMAN IV. Anyway, peace. :-)

Carol_White

She's already watched all the Hitchcock movies worth watching, full stop. If you want to see her YouTube channel go down in flames, by all means encourage her to watch more Hitchcock. "But they're good movies!" Who cares?

Andrew Mote

My apologies for the Snyder bro comment cause that’s usually the only people that defend that abomination of a movie. Trust me I know how terrible how bad IV is. I have it ranked right above MOS and Justice League. They’re all terrible movies.

Richard Maurer

Neither of the films are close to what the Judge Dredd comic is about. And I have my doubts that the new Waititi one will be either. The comic version is more like the Starship Troopers movie, in that it’s a obvious satire of fascism. Dredd came the closest, but it still isn’t the satire the comic is.

Chris Thom

Cassie (and Carly), just saw some footage from the Practical Magic 2 set. Looks like the cast is back together, minus Evan Rachel Wood. They recast her with Joey King (as the daughter).

Chris Thom

Heard it's good. And very emotional toward the end.

Chris Thom

Was listening to a Tove Lo remix tonight at work and I thought of you.

Clay F

CHILDREN OF MEN (2006) [RT=92%]. Clive Owen. Julianne Moore. Michael Caine. I think Cassie would be captivated by Children of Men (2006). Also, I think she likes Julianne Moore. “Children of Men” (2006) is ranked very high at No. 5 at Popcorn Requests. “Children of Men” (2006) may have a decent chance to win a poll. Some patrons may vote against “Children of Men” (2006) to ‘protect’ Cassie. A couple of months ago, Children of Men came in 2nd in a live poll – 4 choices – a fairly tight poll: 4 choices in the live poll. -Mad Max (1979) - 30% -Children of Men (2006) - 26% -Evil Dead - 22% -Jackie Brown (1997) - 20% Apparently, the inclusion of Evil Dead in the poll may have been a mishap b/c Evil Dead may be on the ‘nope’ list. I preferred Children of Men or Jackie Brown over Mad Max but was glad to get the Mad Max reaction.

Richard Maurer

Clay - until I see a nope list, there is no nope list. Except for The Exorcist and Hereditary. If any of the mods want to tell us different please enlighten us all as to what exactly is on the official “nope” list. Edit: Human Centipede is a nope film too, I just remembered.

Richard Maurer

Let’s be honest, while one poll won’t destroy the channel, Hitchcock films, especially the less well known ones, aren’t going to light up the YouTube numbers either. A poll like this happening would depend on how generous Cassie is feeling at this time.

Richard Maurer

Ben recently said he has no problem with us asking Cassie to watch horror films. Now, as a horror fan, I know what horror films are mainstream enough that Cassie could watch them. For instance, Evil Dead (81) is a mainstream horror film, Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer is not a mainstream film, and despite the critical acclaim it’s received, I would never expect, or support a request for, Cassie to watch it. While I don’t believe in the hyperbole that there are films that would “destroy” Cassie on a permanent basis, I also know there are films that she is not ready for, and likely never will be. I would never advocate for those films and would do my best to warn her away from them.

My_Cousin_Mose

Children of Men is fantastic and I have no idea what Cassie could need protecting from in that movie. Though I wouldn't be surprised if some people here felt that way.

Clay F

Richard — I was just referring to what Cassie said after a break in the live. I don’t have a quote or remember well enough to even paraphrase — but after the break she said something like she was told on the break that Evil Dead was on the nope list. I could have heard or remembered wrong.

Chris Thom

Evil Dead seems comparable to The Exorcist in many ways. Except for the more splatstick tone of it.

Richard Maurer

Clay - This just goes to my point about the “nope” list. If there is one, make it official. Put it on the FAQ page along with the rest of the rules. Why do we have to guess and rely on what was said in the comments about what’s on the list. And how did Evil Dead make a poll if there’s actually a nope list that everyone at PiB can refer to?

Richard Maurer

Chris - the demonic stuff in Evil Dead is comparable to Constantine, not The Exorcist. And Cassie watched Constantine last Halloween.

TheSingulatarian

"Exorcist" Less tree rape than "Evil Dead" As a matter of fact there is no rape at all in "The Exorcist".

Richard Maurer

That’s right, I remember that now.

Clay F

Richard — She randomly selected the poll candidates live in the moment from DVDs she had received. She no longer opens DVDs she receives live along with other packages. It may be better to keep the nope list vague and fluid — without her taking a stand on multiple movies — because my guess is she is evolving to be more receptive (even if reluctantly) to movies that once might have been possibilities on her so-called nope list.

Richard Maurer

The crucifix scene in The Exorcist was caused by a demon, won’t go any further into that one though. The tree scene in Evil Dead is literally a few seconds and while it is strongly implied, not actually shown. If that’s all that was holding Evil Dead back from being watched it could be censored (as much as I hate censorship) like Deadpool was for Carly. Other than that one short scene, violence-wise it’s not as bad as Passion of the Christ and demonic-wise no worse than Constantine.

Aaron Mann

Children of Men would be a great reaction and one that I am rooting for. Not sure what is so questionable about it. I mean, sure, there is some violence but nothing even close to graphic. I would put Pulp Fiction or even Full Metal Jacket as more objectionable than Children of Men (both of which she has reacted to).

Gray

Children of Men will be fine that's an easy watch these days, think she said wouldn't react to the Warcaft movie because of an ex who used to play it. Not that there is anyone requesting that film.

Dave

Regarding the so-called "Nope List", there is no physical copy, spreadsheet, database, note pinned to the refrigerator door, or any other tangible list to be handled or posted. It is just simply any film that Cassie decides not to watch, most notably those films that she deems violate her core beliefs and preferences. Early on in the life of the channel Cassie stated "I will not sell my soul for views", and that remains true today and will remain true for as long as she does this. If she questions a film that has been requested, she consults movie databases as well as a close group of friends who know her closely and know what to recommend and what not to, according to what they know she will accept. Of course, ultimately it is Cassie who decides. So how do you know what to request, say for example in October? Well, I'd say just use common sense along with the content guidelines that have been spelled out in a number of different places and at a number of different times and events. Just prior to writing this, I did check the FAQ post and the content guidelines seem to have gone missing. There is a list of content guidelines on the Pick-A-Flick entry form (Last week of the month- get your pick in if you haven't done so already!) I will ask Ben to put them in the FAQ post for everyone to see. Yes, Cassie has bent her own rules with films like Constantine and Poltergeist and IT and others. Please don't mistake that for a change in Cassie's core beliefs and preferences. It is not a matter of "what she can handle". It is a matter of what she chooses to allow into her life and what she doesn't. Go ahead and request what you want, and don't worry about what "list" your request is put on. As so often happens, you'll get feedback to your commented request or suggestion. If she likes the request enough to consider it for polling or watching, then that's what she has decided. If she says no, then that also is what she has decided. Use whatever the response is as a tool to guide you with future suggestions and requests. That will be the best way to discover and know what is on the "Nope List", especially as there is no "list". Hope this helps, reach out to a Mod if you have any questions.

Just Plain Bob

Richard, isn’t “Evil Dead” the movie that one of the mods convinced Cassie should go in the “nope list”? I seem to have some vague recollection that this was the case. It’s too bad and kind of absurd, for the reasons you gave. It’s a damn fine movie and very scary for a first timer. But I simply don’t see how it has any more objectionable material re: possession than “Constantine”, as you pointed out. I suspect that what lands some of these movies on the nope list is that they’re scary and don’t have big name stars. If Keanu Reeves played the Ash role in “Evil Dead”, I seriously doubt it would be on the nope list.

Richard Maurer

JP Bob - I agree with your post. But let’s not rehash things we can’t really change anyway. Dave confirmed there’s no actual nope list in post above. That being said, if anyone recommends Evil Dead (81) I will support it, but at this point it might be a lost cause. However, if Cassie herself says she won’t watch it then I will respect her wishes, as I have done with other “nope” films in the past, and not bring the matter up again.

Aaron Mann

Dave - Totally agree. It would be nearly impossible to maintain a list with hundreds, possibly thousands of "nope" movies. Cassie and her team can't be expected to know every movie made over the last 100 odd years of movie making, and then filter out the questionable movies onto a separate list. Throw in international movies, and now it gets even more complex. All it takes is one movie to not be on the list, then someone suggests a movie Cassie and team overlooked, and they say, "Hey! It's not on the list! What gives?" Every movie is going to be on a case by case basis.

Richard Maurer

Dave - thanks for the response, it was helpful and courteous. Seeing as you’ve now put to rest the “nope” list as a real thing, I do still have one question - why isn’t there a nope list? As far as I personally have read from Cassie’s own words, only The Exorcist, Hereditary, and Human Centipede (and I might be misremembering HC) are no-goes. But I have also heard numerous other films mentioned in the comments as being nope films for Cassie. But I haven’t heard it from Cassie herself. I don’t know if these films were mentioned due to personal bias, uninformed assumptions, wishful thinking, or just from reading someone else’s post. Or it might even be that Cassie said so herself and I simply missed it. Which is why a actual nope list would be helpful - both to stop people from wasting everyone’s time asking for something that’s not going to be watched anyway (like The Exorcist being at 95 on Popcorn Requests), and also to stop people from erroneously claiming that movies are on the non-existent nope list when they clearly are not. Just something to think about. Edit: when I say a list I mean just the ones Cassie has confirmed she won’t do. Not every possible nope film as Aaron suggested above.

Richard Maurer

I don’t think Pet Semetary would go over too well with Cassie either, unfortunately.

Tanggor

Clay -- I didn't realize Cassie was no longer doing the "live" package opening; I kept waiting on the next one. Oh well.

Clay F

Aaron -- good point = Children of Men is no more objectionable than several other movies she has reacted to. Yet, some patrons will vote against Children of Men (even if their preferred movie in the poll) because they do not think the movie is good for Cassie -- which is fine -- totally up to the patron. Yet, does somewhat ignore the desire by Cassie to expand her horizon, and that Cassie is an intelligent adult -- and that a movie that challenges her or pushes her out of her comfort zone can make for a great reaction and help her grow as a reactor. On the other hand, patrons legitimately want 'safe' movies for Cassie because they prefer those reactions? Children of Men Will be tolerable (and maybe even captivating) for her because she will be invested. As for the ethereal "no" list, a movie that has objectionable content but is a movie she is invested and/or the movie has positive aspects that she likes (e.g., character development, rich human relationships, constructive behavior, investigative aspects, etc.) may be a movie she will accept, whereas another movie that has the same or similar objectionable content she would not accept b/c of the objectionable content. The objectionable content criteria is not necessarily always a rigid decider in a vacuum. Pulp Fiction She recently indicated that she may have been more receptive to Pulp Fiction if she had reacted to Pulp Fiction later in the channel, not so early in the channel as she did. I commented that she "hated" Pulp Fiction and she replied "but that was early in the channel." I checked my list, and my top 10 movies all time (which the list can be fluid, except for the top 3): 1. GF 2. GF2 3. Shawshank **4. Pulp Fiction** 5. Schindler's List 6. Apocalypse Now 7. SPR 8. In the Heat of the Night (1967) 9. Goodfellas 10. Back to the Future Full Metal Jacket FMJ may be a lost cause for her. I think the only Vietnam War movie she reacted to that she may have truly liked is We Were Soldiers (2002)? The Vietnam War is depressing. I have watched so much Vietnam War stuff over the last 50 years since the Fall of Saigon in 1975. I was fixated on it as a kid/young adult. I am currently rewatching the Ken Burns documentary on the Vietnam War and finding it depressing.

Clay F

Tanggor -- She has not stopped doing the live package openings. She just no longer opens packages with DVDs during live package openings.

Tanggor

Ah, OK, thanks. That's a significant distinction. Rather reduces the incentive to send them, but maybe she was getting too much weird/unpleasant stuff, which would be sad -- we have a responsibility to be mindful of Cassie's sensitivities and decency, since that's a big reason we're all here.

Tanggor

An example -- I sent in a copy of Doctor Sleep (The Shining sequel). After I sent it, I realized it was probably a bad choice, based on one scene alone. While the film is less bloody than the first (visually), there is one scene that even I have trouble with (despite having seen it a few times), being a parent also. That one scene is enough to make me regret ever sending it. She should never see that scene. Ever. So I suppose it's for the best.

Richard Maurer

Tanggor - Cassie handled the Georgie scene in IT pretty well, and The Mist was was on a poll, so it was deemed acceptable for her even with that scene. Going on that info, because we really have nothing else to go on, I think she could watch Doctor Sleep, and I would vote for it on a poll (depending on on what else was on the poll).

Kristian

I hope she'll watch The Man who Knew Too Much, the 50's version with James Stewart and Doris Day.

Tanggor

Richard -- perhaps you're right; I know she's more thick-skinned than when she started (which is to be expected). But even though I'm an ex-infantryman, and my son is all grown up and married and stuff, that scene still rips my heart out. I'd speculate that maybe I'm too sensitive, but truthfully, no one has ever accused me of that.

Clay F

I think the vast majority of physical media she has in her collection she will never watch. But surely it's nice to have such a collection. As for kids getting it, Jaws 2 she reacted to a few days ago: The shark kills a water-skier shown thrashing around under water with blood. A teenage boy is violently eaten by the shark. He is dragged through the water and smashed into the side of the boat before being pulled under. Blood is shown in the water. A young boy falls into the water and the shark approaches. A teen girl then jumps into the water and saves him. However she cannot get out of the water and is eaten by the shark. No blood is shown, just her disappearing into the sharks mouth.

Richard Maurer

Clay - she’s watched quite a few non-horror movies where children are in peril/die as well. I’ve always taken that “rule” to mostly mean that children being harmed has to be a major part of the movie rather than just a scene or two. The Mist making it onto a poll convinced me of that. The reality is all of the rules Cassie has (no excessive violence, no demonic stuff, no children being harmed, no excessive nudity or sex) have proven to be fluid, not hard and fast rules. All of them have been “broken” multiple times with no repercussions from Cassie that we’ve seen. In fact two them are made to be broken - what does “excessive” mean? Everyone has their own definition of excessive and it’s impossible to apply that definition to another person. From the discussions I’ve had here over the years excessive means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. How many times have we seen where movies with no more violence than Rocky get labeled “too much for Cassie”?

Rene G.

Wasted money of not opening dvds.. Sheesh. The nope list is beignning to put me off badly. It's like they're creating "safe space" movie reaction channel here or what??

Rene G.

Martyrs 2008, High Tension and The Hills have eyes would be my perfect october list movies.

Rene G.

which evil dead got 22%?? THe remake or the original??

Richard Maurer

Rene - I can guarantee you Martyrs and High Tension will never be allowed on this channel. People have a problem with Evil Dead (81) here. I can’t see those two even getting serious consideration for a poll.

dmh killah

Cassie, please have Carly over and watch Sinners (2025). Gonna be an amazing reaction.

Richard Maurer

If you’re talking actual gore, Texas Chainsaw Massacre has much less than your average 80’s horror film. It’s more about the disturbing imagery. But it has been copied so many times since (including a couple of remakes) it’s kind lost its impact with younger viewers. I really don’t see why it couldn’t be watched, but who knows?

My_Cousin_Mose

@Rene she still opens all the dvds she just does it off camera because she gets hundreds and it would take over an hour just to open dvds. And I really wouldnt label Cassie's small nope list as a "safe space". It's not a huge list. Watching brutal rape and murder and demonic stuff desensitizes you to it. I see nothing wrong with someone (especially a mom) not wanting to sully herself for views.

BlockbusterBrian

Henry Cavill is great as Superman... his movies are hampered by Zach Snyders direction... Snyder is a wonderful cinematographer... his movies are beautiful to see... but his story telling and choices are not fitting with the source material... they are entertaining but not substantive if you follow me... but thats like, only my opinion... The new Superman was glorious... hopeful and fun... what Superman should be...

Stick Figure Studios

"She's already watched all the Hitchcock movies worth watching, full stop." Not only is that wrong, but it isn't even remotely close to being true.

Roy Phillips

Horse manure. Snyder was asking if Superman can exist in a post-Sept. 11 world with 24-hour news, social media and nutjobs who yell "Fake News" instead of making him a simplistic, Saturday morning cartoon character. He also understands comic books as an art form and appreciates the human condition by using imagery to tell a thousand words. Snyder and Cavill got the shaft by those who miss Chris Reeve (I have nothing against the man) and are afraid of the question, especially at a time where a lot of us didn't learn from the lesson of the aforementioned tragedy.

Richard Maurer

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has has more YouTube views in 3 weeks (155k) than Beverly Hills Cop has in a month (148k). Most successful PaF movie so far - by a lot. Also easily the most views of any movie this month. How about that?

BlockbusterBrian

yeah... Snyder is a hack... who doesnt understand how to tell a compelling story with empathetic characters... he is a great cinematographer... I will never say his movies arent visually stunning... but the point of a movie is to make you feel... and a great movie should stick with you... make you want to see it again and again... as for understanding the art form of comics... I have to laugh... he broke the core rules for Superman and Batman... the actual character defining traits and the moment he got to play with them he broke their core rules for what? to show a post modern bleak reality in a Superhero movie? that there sounds like the road apples you mentioned...

Joe J

IMO, Cassie should monthly react to 1 or 2 recent movies (last 5 years), with an eye toward those that would get good views. She needs a few more wins each month. It's harder now in 2025 for most films to engage with the younger YT audience. Must change and adapt...or perish?

Joe J

I enjoy Snyder's take on the character. The films are entertaining for me, I don't need them to be deep and meaningful.

BlockbusterBrian

I agree they are entertaining films... and I am not here to yuck anyones yum... I just didnt enjoy his interpretation of the characters... I understand that not everything is for me... I just dont feel the need to rewatch Zach Snyders DC films like I do with other superhero films... I grew up reading the comics and watching Chris Reeve and Dean Cain and the DC animated shows... Super heroes should be inspiring of hope for me is all...

Richard Maurer

Thunderbolts is a good example. I know Cassie wants to watch it (at least enough to ask if she should). Make that a ppotm, instead of things like Shakespeare in Love, which will be lucky to get 40k in a month. That movie’s not going anywhere, she could watch it anytime. But jumping on Thunderbolts while it’s still fresh is running out of time. It would still do well for her, but many of the other reactors have done it already. This is a case where she depends on her patrons opinions too much. To many people here, if it was made after the 90’s it must not be good. But she needs to remember her YouTube audience doesn’t see it that way, and it doesn’t hurt to cater to them occasionally.

Milton Reduxed

Yes, an example of a really savvy nomination. A movie that wasn't really on the radar of the channel, probably wouldn't have won a poll, but proved to be popular after skipping through the regular processes. If all nominations were that successful PiB would probably start doing more frequent PaFs

Joe J

Too be successful now, most reaction channels have moved to newer movies and TV shows. I worry for PIB if Cassie doesn't get behind more new content...now rather than later.

Richard Maurer

It’s a good, fun movie. Have you even watched it?

Joe J

Everyone's a nerd for something, lol.

Clay F

+1 for recent movies (last 5 years).

Clay F

Rounders 46K views after 1 day.

Stick Figure Studios

Snyder is a talented filmmaker and by all accounts a decent guy, but he was absolutely the wrong director to make a Superman movie as he fundamentally misunderstands the character.

Chris Thom

I know the youngs seem to like that show Arcane.

Richard Maurer

Chris - okay, let’s not push this too far.

Chris Thom

The visuals he created and added to the series were pretty great. Definitely see him as a visual director more than anything else. But Man of Steel had a pretty gripping story imo.

First Name Ella

I can’t remember, did she watch Eternal Sunshine?

Shawn Kildal

Gladiator 2 was a very recent release and doesn't even have 80k views after 5 months on channel

Shawn Kildal

The Last of Us Season 2 finale only has 27K views after a month

Shawn Kildal

Pardon me, 80k for Gladiator 2

Shawn Kildal

Shockingly, Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse (2023) only has 82k after a year

Shawn Kildal

It's also probably why she's going to do Game of Thrones due to its extreme popularity. I'll be interested to see how it does.

Richard Maurer

Shawn - Nobody’s saying every newer movie / series (I wasn’t even talking about series anyway) will do well. But you mentioned two new movies that didn’t do well. I could have mentioned a dozen or more older movies that did less than 70k this year. Nobody’s saying Cassie should watch exclusively newer movies, in fact I think there are older movies she could be doing that would do quite well. But doing some 2000’s movies once or twice a month could help her numbers, depending on the movies she watches.

Richard Maurer

As far as Across the Spiderverse goes, that one was a puzzler for me too. I think she may have waited too long to get to it, if I had to guess.

Clarence Newman

Bullitt, Towering Inferno and Cool Hand Luke would all be million sellers. We all know it. And The Fly, of course. Cassie will just need some therapy afterwards.

Clarence Newman

I've seen Cassie's nope list. It contains every movie I ever recommended, plus Horror of Dracula.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - good to see you back, but those three movies would be lucky to get 175k - combined - on YouTube. Now The Fly, that’s a movie that would likely do well. Over 100k, I should think.

Richard Maurer

No , it’s just Cannonball Run (I&II) and Rhinestone.

Clarence Newman

Agree to disagree. But we do agree that she will get over a quarter of a million views if she watches all four.

Shawn Kildal

Wild guess, maybe WarGames would get a bunch

Richard Maurer

Shawn - Maybe. Beverly Hills Cop was number one on Popcorn Requests for a couple of years, got beat by Dungeons & Dragons. And BHC had considerably more requests than War Games.

Shawn Kildal

I also remember The Human Centapede being on the Nope list

Chris Thom

One of my favorite reactions on the channel.

Chris Thom

It's the number one most requested on the app. Followed by Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Chris Thom

Looks like Taxi Driver, Taking of Pelham 123, Trainspotting, Mystic River etc. will be on the next poll. And like eight others but I forget what they were.

Richard Maurer

Top Secret! and Sin City. My top two.

Shawn Kildal

In my opinion, Popcorn Requests chart doesn't reflect on how well it will do on YouTube. Also, I've seen numerous times lower charted movies win polls over higher ones for what it's worth. I remember Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was decently ranked but is near the very, very bottom of # of views on her YouTube page

Chuck Schuldiner

Rooting for Trainspotting one of my fav films ever! Taxi Driver would be second for me. Thanks for letting us know the films Chris.

Rene G.

Yeah, she was like, "Fuck this movie I'm done reactions to this one" And felt like she refuses to continue and just look at her phone most of the time!

Rene G.

Here's hoping Taxi Driver would win. She might recognize Jodie foster as 12 yr old girl since she saw hannibal and silence of the lambs

Morris B

I am with you brother. I absolutely love Superman. I grew up with Reeve but there are so many serious stories and different times in 90 years that this version needed to be told.

BlockbusterBrian

Morris, I agree there are darker sadder versions of Superman, and some of those stories are brilliant... but they require a full understanding of the character and the ability to actually tell the story... Zack Snyder is not a storyteller... he is a visual artist who would have been a spectacular cinematographer if he didnt insist on directing...

Barry Gant

Steven Spielberg?....I have the perfect movie for you. ALWAYS. This movie checks all your boxes
