Ace Degenerate

Wasn’t there a YT release of this already?

Patrick Gibbs

LEEROY!!! WHO’S THE MASTER!!??

Ian A

SHO'NUFF!! I had such a crush on Vanity. You are right, this is a live action Saturday Morning Cartoon.

Dan

How about a Chuck Norris movie poll? RIP Chuck.

Shad Kanyak

The full reaction post was more than two months ago. Maybe you remember seeing that post?

Milton Reduxed

Hard to believe someone expended their golden ticket on this

Ace Degenerate

Yeah I watched it back then and commented on the post maybe that was it. I thought I had watched the YT version as well. I know a lot of reaction channels have had copyright strikes and such then done reuploads. I thought this might be one of those times. But I guess not.

Kiss the Librarian

I paused my binge to see BotB with Cassie on my big screen. Surprised to find it's up already and so excited! It's one of the best and most cinematic episodes.

Richard Maurer

Yeah, this is a bad movie. That may have been intentional, but I don’t think so. A lot of 80’s movies were very cringe-worthy, to one degree or another, but the lower budget ones usually don’t make it onto reaction channels.

Richard Maurer

To me , yes. Like HtD it’s not so bad it’s good, it’s just really bad.

Richard Maurer

I hope we can get some real martial arts movies on the channel - that is the Asian ones.

Joe J

I was very surprised to see a YT edit for this one.

Joe J

We gonna need Bloodsport though.

Clarence Newman

That is Asian. It takes place in Asia and there's Asian folks. Plus Jean-Claude, who somehow plays an American.

Richard Maurer

I like to call Bloodsport a honorary Asian martial arts movies. That being said I’m afraid if you make an exception for one people will expect exceptions for all and we would end up with a poll killer like Rush Hour 2 winning.

Clarence Newman

Makes me happy, Joe. It bodes well for Cannonball Run.

Richard Maurer

Joe - someone must be convinced it will do well on YouTube. Right now it’s at 18k in 15 hours. If it keeps at that pace it should do decent, but it’s not looking like huge numbers are going to happen.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - I hope you’re kidding (hard to tell with you sometimes) - just because a movie is filmed in a different country doesn’t make it a film of that country. Bloodsport is a US produced film.

Clarence Newman

I may be kidding. Hard to say. We could always get her to watch Squid Game, though. Not exactly martial arts, but asses do get kicked.

Richard Maurer

Squid Games is the Saving Private Ryan of series. Everyone’s done it that ever needs to.

Joe J

It should beat Moonstruck and the Jesse James movie, pretty much anything will I think, lol.

Gray

Swear there was a poll on YT on whether to watch Squid Game. Pretty sure yes won, I only watched the first series dunno if it went downhill after that.

Richard Maurer

Second season was okay, haven’t watched the third season.

Richard Maurer

Bloodsport is the only good US produced martial arts movie.

Milton Reduxed

The Karate Kid is the best US martial arts film

Clarence Newman

Season 2 of Squid Game is a bit of a dip, but Season 3 finishes the story strong.

Richard Maurer

Karate Kid is barely even a martial arts movie.

Richard Maurer

It’s martial arts at the level you can see in any small town dojo. And that crane kick is about as unstoppable as a balled-up paper towel. Rush Hour is more of a martial arts movie, and it’s not really one at all.

Milton Reduxed

...And it's a better movie than Bloodsport

Richard Maurer

Clarence - Sure. Because standing on one leg with your arms high in the air is one of the fundamentals taught in all forms of martial arts. Remember when Rocky did it to defeat Clubber Lang?

Richard Maurer

That’s called an opinion, Milton. And it’s not one I share.

Clarence Newman

Steady on, Milt. Bloodsport’s got Bolo.

Clay F

I agree with Milton that Bloodsport is not the greatest. "This is where it all began for the Muscles from Brussels, but beyond Van Damme's athleticism, Bloodsport is a cliched, virtually plotless exercise in action movie recycling." I would be happy for Joe if Bloodsport won a poll.

Gro Do

She deserves JCVD butt shots.

Richard Maurer

Clay, whose quote is that? Someone who doesn’t understand martial arts movies, that’s for sure.

Clay F

I like The Karate Kid (1984). Would vote for it in a poll, except for the grim fear that the sequels KK2 and KK3 would get an auto-reaction if the original won. (How many times do I have to say I voted for the movie, not the franchise?) KK3 is truly abysmal. IMDb 7.3, RT 90%, RT Audience 83% = The Karate Kid (1984) IMDb 5.3, RT 15%, RT Audience 35% = The Karate Kid, Part III (1989) KK3 = "Morita, who was Oscar-nominated for the original, remains a likable stick figure, but Macchio has gone from cute to typecast here, his waifish charm turned to gawky adulthood." And no, you don't need to watch KK3 for Cobra Kai. By far, the vast majority of people who watched Cobra Kaid did not watch KK3, and were just fine. Cobra Kai is self-contained and has plenty of background on the characters -- don't need KK3.

Richard Maurer

All this is precisely why they need to do Asian-only martial arts film polls - to keep out the US-made wannabes. Thanks for proving my point.

Clay F

Bloodsport (1988). "Van Damme may have been an excellent martial artist ... but he was no actor." "Bloodsport is strictly for martial arts buffs; little is offered here in the way of plot, dialog, or acting." "The contest format is hopelessly repetitive and inert, the characters would seem underdeveloped in a comic book." 1/4 "It may be focused rather single-mindedly on ruthless hand-to-hand combat, accentuating muscly he-men who are often shirtless, but the repetition isn’t too bad." "Hacking through the jungle of cliche and reservoir of bad acting in Bloodsport are some pretty exciting matches." "A well-plucked turkey, humorless and plagued by a script full of stilted mumbo-jumbo." "It's very entertaining despite making absolutely no sense. Terrible acting but it's so fun." "It's hard to argue that this Van Damme martial arts movie is actually good, but it's acceptable to call it entertaining ... emphasizing its silly qualities."

Richard Maurer

Clay - you’re fundamentally misunderstanding what’s most important in a martial arts movie. While good acting and story are helpful they definitely not as important as the fight scenes. Well choreographed fights supersede all in a martial arts film.

Joe J

Bloodsport and KK 1 are basically perfect films for what they were intended too be. Both films have stood the test of time.

Richard Maurer

Joe - I never claimed that Karate Kid was a bad film. It’s not a good martial arts film, however.

Richard Maurer

Now you’re talking. That’s a real martial arts film.

Bill Maurer

How about a Chuck Norris movie poll ??? Or Bruce vs Chuck in "The Way of the Dragon" ???

Richard Maurer

I see that the movie’s stalled at 30k views on YouTube.

Joe J

If interested, Jen Murray just posted a reaction to Jason and the Argonauts. 👍

Richard Maurer

Not a big fan of hers, but for JatA I will make an exception.

Richard Maurer

Watched Jen’s reaction to Jason and the Argonauts. It was a pretty good reaction. But I’m still not going to subscribe.

Ragothor

What are you taling about? Best film ever made!
