Been wanting to watch this one for so long to see these three dynamites all together on screen! A love triangle? a love square perhaps? It was sweet and funny and swoon-ie? The ending wrapped up really quick but i think everyone lived happily ever after! ;)

Oh, this one is a classic Romantic Comedy: Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and James Stewart I was a kid when I saw this...I was rooting for Dexter to get Tracy 😁

Jake McNulty

If you ladies enjoyed this one then you might equally enjoy "High Society" (1956) starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra. It's pretty much a remake of "Philadelphia Story" but with musical numbers by legendary songwriter Cole Porter.

James UK

Looking forward to this one. The remake, High Society, next? Grace Kelly’s final movie before becoming Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco. A couple of other Cary Grant movies I hope you’ll get to, from later in his career, are Charade and Father Goose.

Joe J

Every old movie Cassie watches has Cary Grant in it...coincidence?

crazyivan

Top 10 comedy of all time, featuring Hollywood royalty. Love this movie and love your reaction. Baseball season is starting, so this one might be my last view for a while...It'll give me something good to binge once the Braves falls off a cliff.

Just Plain Bob

I think Cassie would enjoy “The Thin Man” (1934). It’s the story of Nick and Nora Charles (William Powell and Myrna Loy), a husband and wife sleuth team who investigate an inventor’s disappearance. Nick is a retired NYPD detective and Nora is his wealthy wife. Their banter is fantastic and their chemistry is such that you find yourself wishing they were married in real life. Nick is dashing and charming and funny. Nora manages to be cute and gorgeous at the same time and is more than a match for her husband’s frequent quips. In fact, so much of the humor comes so fast that you find yourself tempted to rewind because “did he/she really say what I think they said.” It’s one of Dashiell Hammett’s lesser works in my opinion but translates so well to the big screen you’d never guess it. Nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award.

This is another dream come true reaction for me. And with Carly? Icing on the cake. Darn it, I have to go to work shortly and sat down to watch the first twenty minutes which turned into 35. I'll just have to watch it from the beginning when I get home and then watch the whole thing again on my next day off. This will be a great reaction. I already like how the sisters were laughing at the start and how engaged they are. Of course some of the dialogue is going over their heads, but that just comes with watching an 86 year old movie for the first time. This is just one of the most enchanting and captivating comedies of this time period. A creation made for Katherine, made to be her "comeback" vehicle, and it was a smash hit. I believe James Stewart got a "make up" Oscar for his role here, a delayed award for his performance in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington from the previous year. His scenes with Katherine after the party are just electric and the highlight of the picture. He actually steals the whole movie in those scenes. Maybe he did deserve that Oscar. I've always felt unsettled in how the picture ended, believing for a long time that Tracy and Mike should have ended up together. But I think the picture ends in just the right way now. Great movie and can't wait to watch the whole thing.

Thanks for getting this up by teatime GMT

An Affair to Remember is a must watch

Christian Becker

Oh, another classic - very nice! On a totally different topic, Cassie’s Madness Tournament has actually brought me to at least look up NCAA tournament results. Me, a Bavarian football (soccer) fan? What is happening? Heck, I even found out that one of the streaming services I pay for is showing the games live. I actually watched part of one game last night, but that’s where the spell broke. I really do not like basketball. But now for the really crazy part: if Cassie decides to watch a game live on the channel, I’d probably watch along. (Please don’t!)

K, Zachary

You know we love this movie. One of our favorites. We love to see you girls together watching this. We usually watch this all snuggled up together on the couch. Love on the screen, makes fall in more in love with each other if that were possible ❤️ The actors alone were outstanding, my gf is a big Jimmy Stewart fan I think we both are.

Nevermind, seems to be a Patreon issue. When copying the link to the private Youtube video, it plays fine.

Oh, what a treat on a lazy Sunday afternoon! Thanks!!

Keith Brown

Grant and Stewart got along great in fact check out the You Tube clip of James Stewart receiving a life time Oscar award in 1985 given to him by Cary Grant. Both of these great actors would soon be gone a few years later but it's nice to see them together again.

Keith Brown

Yes , The Thin Man movie series would be a treat for Cassie. Oh, by the way the 2nd Thin Man movie (After the Thin Man) has James Stewart in one of his earliest movies!!

Edgar Gonzalez

Really, they did?I didn't know that. 😮

Phil Stubblefield

To me, this reaction is worth more than all of GoT put together! I'm so excited to see this with you two! One of the classics of the Golden Era of Hollywood, with three of the greatest stars ever to grace the silver screen! 🤩

Johnny Bullis

This is exactly why I love this channel. Thank you for watching this Cass.. Ive never seen it and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised how good this was. And I would've never known if it werent for this channel.

Thomas Renton

I couldn’t agree more Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby in the same movie singing together and charade has been called the best Hitchcock film not made by Hitchcock

Walter

I love this movie. Incredible cast and the dialog is rapid fire, smart, and funny. I first saw this as a kid and later in life I often used the name C. K. Dexter Haven for reservations.

Catherine LW

What a treat on a Sunday evening with nothing to watch! The dialogue is sharp and fast paced, if not a bit dizzying as you’re not sure who will end up with whom. I agree, I like how they don’t make you hate anyone and supporting cast is likeable and memorable. Not sure if you girls picked up that Tracy and Dexter never consummated their marriage. Two allusions: Dex refers to Tracy as a “married maiden”, and Tracy later laments that “I was not yar”, yar meaning responsive and ready to act, though it was an aside in reference to the boat The True Love. Tracy’s insistence on perfection kept her from allowing intimacy and vulnerability. That’s why Kittridge was so shocked when he thought Tracy had a fling with Mike the night before their wedding. Love precocious Dinah, with her yoyo (I had one as a child!) “How do you get smallpox?” Stewart was fabulous when he’s drunk, hiccuping and all. Please consider Notorious by Hitchcock- Grant sizzles with Ingrid Bergman!

Clay F

The acting/charisma of that trio is stunning. Agree the interaction between Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant is great. Enjoyed watching those 3 awesome actors interact. My favorite Katharine Hepburn movie. Jimmy Stewart = good acting, e.g., his interaction with others (especially w/Hepburn). Also, his being drunk is convincing to me – he didn't overdo it. Cary Grant is smooth. Charisma. Good at delivering quick lines.

Phil Stubblefield

I third that nomination! The same clever, rapid-fire dialog, snarky humor, and powerhouse leading lady. Cassie and Carly would both love it!

Phil Stubblefield

I know I'm in the minority, but I really didn't enjoy An Affair to Remember. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but one of the pivotal decisions in the film (no spoilers!) just rubbed me the wrong way. Perhaps I should watch it again as a much older and perhaps wiser man...

Old As Dirt Bert

The song Dinah sang while playing the piano was "Lydia, the Tattooed Lady" from the 1939 Marx Brothers movie "At The Circus". Groucho Marx was known for spouting clever songs, poems and asides during their films. This song, written by others, made reference to many things contemporary and historic ranging from an 1894 Opera to an obelisk at the 1939 World's Fair in NYC. My wife and I were delighted by this reaction! The sisters got all but the most dated references and the reaction to the triangle or quadrangle relationship was a hoot.

Johnny Liu

Always love it when we get a classic! although the ending does feel a bit random with Kitteridge disappearing and Conner being brushed aside after going through so much. But out of all these heavy hitters Katherine Hepburn really stole the show in plenty of parts.

Shawn Kildal

Carly also saw Cary Grant in Arsenic and Old Lace for Halloween

Shawn Kildal

Still a bunch of great Cary Grant movies yet to be reacted to. Most will probably request the popular ones such as Charade, Notorious, His Girl Friday, An Affair to Remember, and The Bishops Wife. However, if pressed, I have a hunch Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House would be Cassie's favorite out of all of them. I first became aware of this film because it was included in AFI's list of 100 years 100 laughs TV special. All of the movies I mentioned here are great as well btw.

Eddie Perkins

James Stewart's first and only competitive Academy Award for Best Actor was for his role in The Philadelphia Story. If I had my way, I would give Jimmy an award for everything he's been in. I love the classics. I remember most of the Jimmy Stewart movies you've seen, but I can't recall if you've seen Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) or Rope (1948). Harvey is another charming Jimmy Stewart film. And The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is another Jimmy Stewart movie I recommend.

Walter

Charade is my #1 film - spectacular chemistry. Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House is great. I'd add Operation Petticoat and Father Goose to your list.

MikeLL

For those keeping score, this was Cassies' seventh James Stewart reaction (Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, The Shop Around The Corner, It's A Wonderful Life, Rear Window, Vertigo, Anatomy of a Murder), her fifth Cary Grant reaction (Bringing Up Baby, Arsenic and Old Lace, To Catch A Thief, North by Northwest) and third Katherine Hepburn reaction (Bringing Up Baby and The African Queen ((not The Queen of Africa 🤣🤣🤣not the first time Cassie has mispoken this film's title, and Cassie keeps counting The Aviator!))). Thus it was Carly's third Cary Grant (Arsenic and Thief) , second James Stewart (Life) , and first Katherine Hepburn. I daresay that Cassie will see Stewart again in Harvey, How the West Was Won, The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and others! She'll see Grant again in Charade, Notorious, The Bishop's Wife, His Girl Friday, An Affair to Remember, Father Goose and too many others to mention. I'm sure she will see Kate Hepburn in The Lion In Winter, On Golden Pond, and hopefully a few movies with Spencer Tracy. Is it too much to hope for Morning Glory (1933), her first Best Actress win???? I wonder how many watching this channel have seen THAT one???

Clay F

To me, her GoT reactions are the best on the channel. So rich and invested.

Catherine LW

I believe it was Best Supporting Actor he won for The Philadelphia Story.

Catherine LW

In that opening scene which shocked you both, they had to keep re-shooting it because Hepburn insisted that Grant wasn’t using enough force. Naturally she had a mattress to fall on, but Grant was nervous and worried that he was going to hurt her.

Joe J

Would love to see a reaction to The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, one of my absolute favorite westerns. 30s & 40s moves are just too dated in style for my tastes anymore, but I certainly saw my fare share growing up.

MikeLL

Argghh! Corrected. Thanks! 😁Robert Wagner 60's TV show. I'm so ashamed!

clutchkman

It's been so long since I've seen this one, but looking forward to seeing it again with you ladies. Is this the one where Jimmy tells Kat that she's "lit from within?" Love that line, and she was.

Catherine LW

Agreed, The Thin Man should be on her list. I love Myrna Loy (Nora). Cassie did like her as Millie in The Best Years of Our Lives.

Clay F

Many patrons feel like you Joe. No widespread demand on channel for 1930s, 1940s movies = never win polls if modern movies are included, often finishing toward the bottom. I think Cassie prefers modern movies. With that said, there are patrons as evidenced by this comment section who want 1930s, 1940s movies. Yet, I don't see much of that happening. The stars were aligned for Philadelphia Story in being a famous old movie w/high name recognition as the only old movie in a poll with 14 modern movies. Old movie patrons apparently ganged up to vote for the sole old movie with modern movie patrons dividing their votes among the 14 modern movies. Such that Philadelphia Story finished 2nd. Striking.

Maria Torres

And leave us not to forget the wonderful Ruth Hussey as Liz! This isn't a triangle, it's a rectangle, and you could even say it's a pentagon if you include Kittridge as a legit member of the tangle. I love the last moments here between Liz and Tracy, when Liz is a great lady and forgives and even endorses Tracy's break; and then when Tracy says she won't marry Mike in part because "I don't think Liz would like it". Poor Liz is often disregarded by audience members, but she is vital here too.

Maria Torres

Grant apparently was cracking up at moments during that immortal scene at Dexter's house, while Stewart calmly proceeded to let it happen.

Maria Torres

I didn't want to lose track of synching but tried to make note of what I wanted to tidbit for you. I can only remember one thing, though: "There's a little spit in your eye. It shows." Dexter has coldly and aristocratically insulted Mike. He has metaphorically spit in Mike's eye. Incidentally, Roland Young plays Uncle Willy. He was a great supporting player, who made a name for himself in a series of movies about a stuffy little man who becomes entangled with playful ghosts: "Topper", of which the first costarts Cary Grant, and as his partner in ghostly crime, the beautiful and fun Constance Bennett. He kind of steals the show whenever he appears in a movie that should be seen much more often: "Ruggles of Red Gap".

Catherine LW

That’s right. He had to control himself from bursting out laughing throughout that scene and you can see him repressing himself.

MikeLL

James Stewart did indeed win the Best Actor Oscar for this film. It was a very unique film that they chose for his win. He could have won it for Mr. Smith or Harvey in my mind.

Timothy Williams

You must watch the remake, High Society. It is a musical with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, with musicians including Louis Armstrong! It is the same yet very different and very good!

Timothy Williams

And... Grace Kelly!!! Her last film before becoming the princess of Monaco!

Eddie Perkins

It was for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Cathleen Jennings

Cary and Katherine did another movie together - Holiday. They did 3 all together :) For more Jimmy Stewart: Rope by Hitchcock, Katherine Hepburn: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Cary Grant: The Bishop's Wife, Penny Serenade, Topper (with "Uncle Willie"), That Touch of Mink (a rom-com), Charade (thriller with Audrey Hepburn), His Girl Friday... can you tell I kinda love Cary? lol

Cathleen Jennings

The first time I heard Groucho sing the song, I was shocked. I live in Kankakee! "When her robe is unfurled, she will show you the world If you step up and tell her where For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paris"

Catherine LW

Actually they did four: Sylvia Scarlett, Bringing Up Baby, Holiday and The Philadelphia Story. Sylvia Scarlett was about Hepburn playing the daughter of a father/daughter scam team, the father played by the wonderful Edmund Gwynn, of Santa Claus fame (Miracle on 34th St.) They were on the run from the French police and Sylvia cut her hair and dressed like a boy to evade capture. They meet up with a young Cary Grant, who played a Cockney con man. This was one of Grant’s first roles where he was noticed by critics and was considered the best performance of the film. Hepburn gave an uneven performance, and Grant outshone her. Still worth watching for its good humor.

Catherine LW

Oops you are right, Best Actor.

Nolofinwe

This movie is a bore and it’s got three great stars in it and it’s pretty hard to make it a bore fest but the author of the book it’s derived from was full of Him self obviously! If you want to see a better version of this story , watch “High Society” With Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, and a couple of really terrific songs. It’s really funny way more romantic than this overrated movie …and I love Katherine Hepburn !im telling you watch High Society as soon as you can

Doug Faries

Awesome movie, love Catherine Hepburn, also need to check out any of the Spencer Tracey and Katherine Hepburn classics.

crazyivan

I'm sure I'll get a few groans, but if you like this set of Hollywood Royalty - you'll enjoy On Golden Pond (1981), starring Henry Fonda, Katherine Hepburn and Jane Fonda....or just pick any of the Robert Redford/Jane Fonda movies.
