Cool! Thanks for the notification, see you there :)

Carol_White

The winner is Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt.

Mike Lemon

Love movie for February- City of Angels (1998).

Big Lazy Dragon

Little bummed. My pick for this drawing apparently didn't carry over from the old format to the new one (I picked C.H.O.M.P.S. from 1979) & I couldn't find it amongst the entries. Maybe next time around, as I already made my choice for the next drawing (Pete's Dragon (1977).

DWG15

Same situation here. I'm pretty sure neither of my selections for the past two months made it into the drawings. Really makes me not want to participate.

fish_thefilmcollector

A little upset. My pick wasn't a part of this months drawing. 🥲 Wasn't even in the lineup for choices. Resubmitted my choice so fingers crossed the next one.

keoma songs

It has to be done from the beta version of the new website, the Google submission page doesn't work anymore.

Big Lazy Dragon

I made my choice early in the month, before the changes went into effect. I just assumed it would carry over, but it didn't.

keoma songs

I would like to complement the members in general for their taste in movie picks. Lots of romance picks which I like even though they haven't been winning.

Richard Maurer

That’s a movie…….that I haven’t seen. Didn’t really want to either.

Cole Jennett

I saw it in the theater. It’s worth watching once, but I found it to be super cheesy.

Joe J

I was hoping Cassie would watch Bullet Train, I think she'll enjoy it.

Stephen Dias

Aw, man. I totally missed this live. The new popping graphic is cool and I like that it also lists the names on the side.

Tara ✨💫

Untamed Heart with Marissa Tomei and Christian Slater or The Other Sister with Juliette Lewis and Diane Keaton

YodatheHobbit

I submitted my Pick and Flick 2 days ago(or maybe yesterday?) and it had some sort of glitch where it was submitted but said "You haven't picked a movie yet". So I watched the list of names when each popped twice carefully and didn't see my name included. What's funny is I saw the movie I submitted up there twice, so I initially thought I was in the pan, but guess two other people also wanted to watch the same movie. We could've have triple the chances of Sunshine winning! Edit: Oh I've just realized what happened. The website by default showed me the poll for next month's Pick a Flick, not this months, even though this months hadn't been drawn yet. I assumed it would show the current month's drawing. Might be something to fix so we don't end up with out submissions not getting counted. I ended up not submitting a pick for tonight's pick. It still doesn't say I picked a movie yet though, even though the one I picked is in the list.

Clay F

+1 for Untamed Heart

Clay F

I popped out early. Gray was in the last 100 that popped out. Mike Lemon popped out last 15. The movie Your Name last 5. 1. She said she will watch Andor after GoT. 2. She asked for a “really good love movie” for this month. 3. She said, “I want to watch The Peanut Butter Falcon so bad.” 4. She said sticking with old PR until new Requests out of beta. 5. There is an auto-sync feature in the works for full reactions. Ben demonstrated. 6. Blues Brothers came up – she said “got to get on that” –mentioned No. 2 on PR. 7. When asked about Star Trek series, she seemed uncertain – said would likely be Picard S3 (10 episodes). She was against DS9 (176 episodes) in past but said people at the Star Trek convention were persuasive with her about DS9 – so DS9 may be possibility at some point. 8. She said she needs to release her ST Convention Vlog. 9. When asked why avoid Citizen Kane? Answer: “I don’t know. Just sounds so boring [Laugh].” 10. She said she has a crush on John Malkovich -- he was “so funny in Rounders" (but hate his character in some movies). 11. When asked about doing a rewatch of The Shining with Carly, she replied “I don’t pay her enough” “I could never do it to her.” 12. She said working on Instagram post asking you the two people you mix up. For her, is Joel Edgerton, Liev Schreiber. For Carly, is Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg (but Cassie said that will likely not be mix up for Carly now after Carly watched GWH). She said Good Will Hunting reaction tonight [I assume could be into the a.m.]. She said GoT tomorrow night or the next night.

Clay F

I think you would find the relatively younger John Malkovich interesting in "Empire of the Sun" (1987) (came in 4th place in the Spielberg poll -- 5 votes behind 3rd place Duel that got a reaction).

Brent Petty

I loved watching that with my brothers when we were kids. Good choice.

Happy Hanukkah

I very much enjoyed it. It 's ... "meta-stylized," to coin an expression, for better or worse. Congratulations and thanks to Rod.

Flounder

ROMCOM Suggestions: SHES HAVING A BABY (1988) — Kevin Bacon, Elizabeth McGovern, Alec Baldwin. A heartfelt John Hughes dramedy about marriage, adulthood, and the anxieties of growing up. No one has ever reacted to it. C’mon, JOHN HUGHES. UNCLE BUCK. PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES. NEXT STOP WONDERLAND (1998) — Hope Davis, Philip Seymour Hoffman. A charming, low‑key romantic comedy that celebrates missed connections and fate. Includes a subplot where the mafia tries to assinate a fish. Both are wonderful ROMCOMS. PLEASE, watch at least one of them.

Shehab Dawoud

I'm not trying to offend anyone, but you have the opportunity to pick pretty much any film in history, and you pick a recent, decent popcorn flick? Seems like a wasted opportunity. I'm still hoping my pick, Malcolm X, gets watched, given the month we're in.

David Collins

Very few love stories are any better than Lancelot and Guinevere. "First Knight" with Sean Connery, Richard Gere and Julia Ormond fits the bill perfectly.

Richard Maurer

Well, pick-a-flick is literally ‘to each his own’. I don’t think there’s been one PaF film so far that would make my top 100. But then, neither would Malcolm X.

Henry Graham

The fact that Secrets & Lies fell INTO the pot means you have to watch it, I think. The popping system is trying to send you a message! (Also, I really, really dislike Bullet Train so I'm grasping at straws here...)

Henry Graham

In terms of romantic comedy suggestions, I am unsurprisingly going to pick A New Leaf (1971), the inspiration for my profile picture and username, and one of the four gems directed by the criminally undervalued comic genius Elaine May.

Ian Tonge

The trouble with DS9 is you can't really dip in and out like you can with TNG. It's one continuous story and you have to watch every episode in order. Personally I would love it, but it's quite a commitment.

Nick Hewett

I dont think Cass has watched a Fred & Ginger movie yet. Maybe it's time. I suggest TOP HAT (1935).

casual_juergen

That was not my experience watching DS9. The first few seasons were like TNG and most other series at that time, topic of the week. In later seasons, there was a continuing background story, true. But DS9 did not tell a continuous story like Babylon 5 or GoT did. The episodes of later seasons need to be chosen with care, I would say. Since Mrs. PiB was convinced of DS9 at a ST convention, she might have gotten viewing suggestions also. We will see :)

LukeG84

100% AGREE! I still can’t believe Cassie hasn’t seen it. It’s right up her alley!

Shehab Dawoud

It’s just fascinating how much that person would have to love a recent movie that was pretty lukewarm in terms of reception, to submit it. Malcolm X is an iconic and key figure in American history, who means a lot to millions, if not billions of people worldwide. So even if someone doesn’t like the film, they can end up learning something, which films also help doing.

Mike Lemon

9- Because it is. If that movie ever played in Springwood, Ohio, the entire town would be dead.

Clarence Newman

There's a way to do select episodes of DS9 without Cassie losing the overall thread of the story. All she needs is cliff notes from the episodes she skips. Plenty of us would be happy to write those so she could read up before watching the next episode. They can be posted on the site so others who haven't watched can read them too. Those of us who've seen the entire series either won't need them or can use them as a refresher. This way, she could do select episodes per season like she did with TNG without tying up one slot a week for three years or more.

Clarence Newman

If Secrets & Lies gets watched, then I'm throwing The Full Monty back in too.

Clarence Newman

I'm someone with a broad and chunky taste in movies. Some might say I need to lose some fave list weight. But even I thought Citizen Kane was a snoozefest.

Clarence Newman

Good film with some great bloopers. "F you sideways, sir!"

Clarence Newman

It would be heaven. It would be heaven so that she could hardly see.

Björn Karlsson

I know a "really good love movie" 😊😄

JohnnyUtah

I like voyager better

Just Plain Bob

Any movie by Henenlotter would be cause for celebration. Patty Mullen is delicious as the titular character in Frankenhooker. But I’d rather see a reaction to Dellamorte Dellamore. It’s three love stories with three different female characters all played by the same actress, zombies, a flying head bride and a lead character whose psychotic break is the backbone of the movie. And it taught me the meaning of the word ossuary.

keoma songs

I think DS9 is doable if she's willing to do 6-8 episodes a season. Also, it should be stressed to her that DS9 is the most emotional of all the series in the first 50 years (haven't watched much from the streaming originals era). DS9 gets called 'the darkest' series but to me it's more accurate to call it 'the most mature'. And with maturity comes the element of darkness sure, but it's so much more, emotionally. Episodes like 'Duet', 'Children of Time', or 'The Visitor' ... I think these go places that TNG couldn't. And still so many great standalone episodes, basically anything with Quark like 'The Magnificent Ferengi" or 'Who Mourns for Morn?'. And 'Trials and Tribble-ations'. Lots of fun, or moving, or suspensful stand-alone or functionally stand-alone episodes such as 'The Magnificent Ferengi' which takes place with the backdrop of the larger Dominion story but can exist separately.

Richard Maurer

Frankenhooker has more of the com part of rom-com. That’s why I picked it.

keoma songs

I agree it's curious that a less than 4 year old, high profile movie that was a relative hit is someone's once in a lifetime choice ( and relative hit meaning over $100 million domestic coming out in first year or so after end of covid restrictions) But maybe it's really good, I've never seen it.

Shehab Dawoud

Box office means nothing. The Rock is one of the highest grossing actors and most of his movies are dogshite. It’s a fun little movie but I doubt many will remember it 10 years from now. There are better popcorn flicks or Brad Pitt films out there. But good for dude who won.

Clarence Newman

Well yeah, Johnny. While my engagement with the main Voyager characters wasn't quite 9 out of 9, I was always happy to settle for Seven.

Clarence Newman

Keoma. You've picked some epic episodes there.

Richard Maurer

I have no problem with the movie Malcolm X and would be happy to see it on the channel someday - but for me that’s the problem, it has a decent chance of making the channel, so I wouldn’t waste my one chance to get something watched on a movie that has a good chance of getting seen anyway. People could say my choice is needlessly obscure and holds little interest for anyone but me - and they’d be correct. And this is my point - other people’s choices may not make much sense to us, I’m certainly not looking forward to Bullet Train myself, but people have their own reasons for picking movies for this, whatever they may be. Do I personally wish people would put a little more thought into their choices? Sure, you only get one chance at this, don’t regret it later. But it is their choice, whatever that choice may be.

John A

Devils advocate, Malcom X is a complete waste in my opinion. Moral of the story, to each their own, you don't get to complain about someone's choice

Shehab Dawoud

I don’t know how good of a chance Malcolm X has. A few years ago she hit us with a lot of movies like Glory, 12 Years a Slave, Selma, etc. Since then, they’ve dried up. I would’ve thought Malcolm X would’ve made it by now, that’s why I have doubts and submitted it for the first time. As I said, I’m just fascinated by people’s choices sometimes and would like to hear their thought process.

John A

Anyone have the issue where it says on the pib site that your patreon shows free tier when you're definitely in the kernal club, and no amount of syncing fixes it?

SeanATX

Love rewatching GoT (again) but I can’t WAIT to rewatch Andor.

Clarence Newman

Mine's showing as it should, John. I don't see any errors. Patreon's been glitchy for a while though - pages loading slowly and stuff. May also be something to do with the beta site they're setting up.

Happy Hanukkah

Given Craig Parker's tragically aborted appearance in The Two Towers, it is wonderful to finally get a movie starring one of his landsmen!

John A

It's not patreon, it's the pib site. It's probably for the best, I don't know how I'm going to choose just one

Richard Maurer

Just looked at all the picks for PaF this month besides my own pick (which is obviously the best pick ;-), its the usual mix of ; a few films I wouldn't mind if my own pick doesn't win; a fair number of films that I wouldn't pick - but I get it; a large number of I don't care about and hope they don't win; a few that just made me think WTF?

Gary Granata

My favorite is Gay Divorcee. Beautiful dance scene to Cole Porter's Night and Day. Ginger Rogers wasn't the best dancer he danced with but the chemistry between them amazing. Plus she had to do everything backwards.

Richard Maurer

Is that your PaF this month? Go ahead, no one can stop you (calling your bluff).

Clarence Newman

The new site where you select a Pick-a-Flick? Yep, that's experiencing some issues.

keoma songs

SENSE & SENSIBILITY ! Sorry, just rewatching the pick a flick stream, and want to vouch for Sense & Sensibility for February.

Joe J

Everyone would have loved "The Final Programme"...I'm sure of that, lol.

Clay F

+1 for Malcolm X. Agree perfect for the month.

Richard Maurer

I’m sure I don’t care. That’s the whole point of pick a flick, choosing a movie that I want to see reacted to. If no one else wants to watch it that’s their problem.

keoma songs

While not my pick, I did once suggest The Final Programme in a poll suggestion about sci-fi movies from 1969-1976, the period between 2001 and Star Wars when sci-fi got weird and interesting and serious. Legitimized as more than kid movies and before the takeover of sci-fantasy action/adventure blockbusters, the sci-fi movies of that time stand out to me as a brief golden age.

Richard Maurer

Agree - sci-fi was really interesting between 2001 and Star Wars. And you’re the only person that has mentioned that they have seen The Final Programme, and presumably liked it since you recommended it for a poll. It’s a cheap rental on Amazon, I wish more people would check it out.

Catherine LW

I can’t enter a PAF on the new site. I keep getting an error message. Sent a screenshot to Ben, haven’t heard back yet. Hopefully he’s working on it.

Joe J

I'm currently not playing PAF here because the odds are too high, and most of the films submitted are just not my cup of tea. Many of my favorites most patrons would probably feel the same about. Two other channels I follow also have monthly PAFs. - TBR Schmitt: Odds are decent at around 120:1, and if you win you are only excluded for the next drawing. - Totally Whatever: At the $25 tier you can submit (2) films each month to a drawing. Odds are great at only around 24:1, and if you win, only excluded for the next drawing.

Catherine LW

Romcoms: The Philadelphia Story (1940). A Room With a View (1985). An Affair to Remember (1957).

Catherine LW

Yay, looks like Ben fixed it! TY, Ben!

Mike Lemon

" besides my own pick (which is obviously the best pick " Thank you for picking Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995) too. A couple dozen more people and it might have a chance to win!

Joe J

Mike - I upvoted "Indictment: The McMartin Trial".

Richard Maurer

Sure Mike, I absolutely did that….without a doubt.

Mike Lemon

I've been trying to at least get Top Hat into a poll for years. It's my go to example whenever I suggest my "movies I (Cassie) have seen in other movies" poll idea. That said, I doubt it will ever get a watch. All the long-ass series and franchises really limits the single, niche movies that get watched.

Mike Lemon

Justice for Joe Cross!

Chris Thom

Is Affair to Remember the one they reference in Sleepless in Seattle? That has something to do with the Empire State Building?

Clarence Newman

I know my pick will never win, but for the last two PaF's, I've had osmosized skin in the game as late as the last 5. The pain when they immediately get the bum's rush is excruciating.

Clarence Newman

Philly Story has got to get a reaction sometime. It's had a significant amount of shout-outs over the years.

James M

Can't be all that bad. At least half the reviewers didn't hate it 😑

James M

I mostly liked Andor.

James M

Here's a great love movie that's not a romcom: "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner".

Richard Maurer

Clarence - Pretty sure you went out before me this time and I was just outside of the final “100” that Cassie had Ben stop at. So not exactly close, were you?

Clarence Newman

No, but I was expecting that. I've been in the final 30 the last two or three times, so I was due a turn as the ass end of the panto horse.

Clarence Newman

And by "osmosized skin", I mean someone else's pick that I want to see a reaction to.

Richard Maurer

Well I’ve always found a few movies to hope for in case I lose. Unfortunately those movies never win either.

Jimmy Stewart

I'm patiently waiting for her to watch it!

Clay F

+1 for The Philadelphia Story (1940).

Clay F

+1 for Voyager

Rod Reavern

I'm happy my movie selection won this Pick-a-Flick draw. I'm certain Cassie will enjoy reacting to "Bullet Train." I'm disappointed that I missed the livestream; wish I could've been there! Perhaps the butterfly effect would've led to a different outcome -- you never know! 😉 I'll take the win! 😎 Thursday is my movie theatre night, because I prefer to watch early screenings of new movies. Sadly, I don't think either of the movies I saw last night ("Send Help" and "Whistle") will be suitable recommendations for Cassie in the future. I'll think of something better.

Steve Holton

Congratulations on a solid pick Rod! Looking forward to it. 👍

Clay F

+1 for Andor. Looking forward to it.

Clay F

Congrats Rod.

Clay F

Two movies (w/romance) mentioned in the Live to consider: THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON (2019) [RT 95%, RT Audience 96%]. SXSW Audience Award Winner. You said: “I want to watch The Peanut Butter Falcon so bad.” I love that movie. OUT OF SIGHT (1998) [RT 94%] (No. 52 at PR). George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez. The interaction (chemistry) between Clooney and J. Lo is awesome.

Chris Thom

I remember Out of Sight being good, but was never sure if it was actually a hit or not. Saw that in a double feature with Scream as a kid at the local theater. Was surprised how much I enjoyed it at 12. Love the scene at the rooftop bar.

Clarence Newman

Kudos Rod. I think it's easier to win Squid Game than Pick-a-Flick.

Taspens

Always from 1989 is an underrated Steven Spielberg movie

Happy Hanukkah

"no one can stop you" I'm having such a good time, I'm having a ball!

Richard Maurer

So you will in fact make “that” version of The Island of Dr. Moreau your PaF then?

Peter Morscheck

The scene at the rooftop bar is almost verbatim from the book - but Soderbergh masterfully intercut the scene at the hotel bar with the following chapter - up in her hotel room. Brilliant writing by Elmore Leonard with brilliant framing and directing choices by Soderbergh.

Peter Morscheck

I know I missed this but I recommend a "Geena Davis" week - featuring: Thelma and Louise, The Long Kiss Goodnight (Shane Black), and A League of Their Own (w/ Tom Hanks)

Clay F

Excellent suggestion but as a poll. That is one way to get Thelma & Louise -- yet, I would be afraid that The Long Kiss Goodnight (which I do like) would win. She has seen A League of Their Own.

Joe J

I can't see Cassie making an executive decision and just doing a "week" for any actor or actress. Thelma & Louise has been heavily requested for years...and so far nada.

Clay F

You're right Joe -- she wouldn't do a week. She has indicated she wants to watch Thelma & Louise and several other movies she has yet to react to. Could be years or never.

Richard Maurer

Secrets & Lies falling back into the pan means it’s burnt and inedible.

Shawn Kildal

Congratulations Rod. I've come somewhat close (top 15) a couple of times but will keep at it.

Clay F

As you may recall, came in 6th in Spielberg poll. Not too bad. Beat Amistad. 1. Bridge of Spies (2015) -- 268 2. A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) – 255 3. Duel (1971) – 243 4. Empire of the Sun (1987) – 238 5. The Color Purple (1985) – 170 *6. Always (1988) – 154 7. Amistad (1997) – 153 8. The Fablemans (2022) – 113 9. 1941 (1979) – 97 10. The Adventures of Tintin (2011) – 85 11. The Sugarland Express (1974) – 46
