This is a special one. The first half i was feeling like uh-oh I don’t think Carly is going to like this-but then it just makes you feel the bad so you can appreciate the good. Amazing performances, Robin Williams smile will be forever.

I love this movie, it always makes me cry!

Phil Stubblefield

The one-take speech on the park bench by the lake... pure acting genius! 😲

MGCR

Well, now she's said that, they both have to watch Insomnia.

Jake McNulty

Might I take this opportunity to talk about the director, Gus Van Sant? An acclaimed independent filmmaker, he has made some very excellent films. Some that you might be interested in checking are: Drugstore Cowboy (1989) - Starring Matt Dillon, Kelly Lynch, James LeGros and Heather Graham My Own Private Idaho (1991) - Starring River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves To Die For (1995) - Starring Nicole Kidman, Joaquin Phoenix, Matt Dillon, Casey Affleck and Illeana Douglas Finding Forrester (2000) - Starring Sean Connery, Rob Brown, F. Murray Abraham an Anna Paquin Elephant (2003) - Starring largely unknown actors, though I think Diane Keaton was a producer on it Milk (2008) - Starring Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emile Hirsch, Diego Luna and James Franco Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot (2018) - Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara and Jack Black Dead Man's Wire (2025) - Starring Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Cary Elwes, Coleman Domingo and Al Pacino

SEAN ƴü KAY

Best screenplay oscar for matt and ben Best supporting actor for Robin As a bostonian, I get alot of these quotes said at me and used at me or in my general direction...

Jeremy Mitchell

So happy you girls reacted to this. Can’t wait to watch it😁😁

Steve Mercier

One of the most emotionally raw and human movies around...from a couple of Baaaawston kids. Oh, and Robin WIlliams being awesome. Absolutely amazing flick. Good stuff.

Blake Evans

One of the greatest scripts ever written. Even still Robin Williams improvised quite a bit. Like the “It’s not your fault” scene, or “My wife used to fart in her sleep” scene. Everyone was laughing so hard that in the shot that Matt Damon is laughing you can see the camera shaking since the camera op couldn’t keep it together during filming. One of the greats.

Wil Castillo

I highly recommend you watch Gifted (2017) with Chris Evans. It's such a good movie.

Stick Figure Studios

He improvised the fart part, but the "it's not your fault" was in the original script and was in fact inspired by a similar scene in the film ORDINARY PEOPLE.

Michael West

I love this movie. Robin Williams acting is amazing. The scene just after their first interaction is so good. He doesn’t say a word but you can just feel his emotions. The “he stole my line” was improvised as well. There are some great interviews on You Tube where Matt talks about working with him. Great reaction.

Mojo One Thousand

I like this movie, but it isn't something I can visit that often. Oscars for Matt Damon and Ben Affleck for writing, and Robin Williams for supporting actor (although technically credited first). Then you add Stellan Skarsgard and there are some great moments in this film. Like most, the Williams monologue at the lake is a favourite and pretty sure it was his Oscar clip. But, I also enjoy Afflecks moment of clarity over a beer at the construction site. Robin Williams just makes it seem effortless with aome of his improvisations that drive a lot of the endearing levity in this. He got the last line of the movie and it was an improvised line about "Will" stealing his line. I was thinking that Carly's struggles with the first half was going to be the vulgarity, but there was some smiling it seemed at points with some of it. It seemed like Cassie was surprised Minnie Driver was a Brit in this, which is her actual accent. We have only seen her use a US accent in "Return to me" and "Grosse Point Blank" and let's call it Russian in "Goldeneye" as a bad karaoke singer. The lesser known friend is Cole Hauser, who has been in a bunch of things, but is most well known these days from his role in "Yellowstone" with Costner. He has been in "Dazed and confused" on the channel, which also has Ben Affleck. I think I first saw Hauser in a police procedural show in the 90s called "High Incident" which was produced by Spielberg.

Mojo One Thousand

Williams last line, and the last of the film ("...he stole my line"), was improvised.

Blake Evans

You’re correct but I believe it was only there once and Robins Williams kept repeating it over and over. He said it was reminiscent of an acting exercise he used to use to bring different nuances with the same words.

Shehab Dawoud

I’m not a fan of rewatches but Ben Affleck’s speech at the end is one of my all-time favorite movie speeches. Could watch that scene anytime. You mentioned not wanting to see Robin as a bad guy and referenced one movie without the title. I don’t know if people have told you which one it is, but I think you should watch it. Someone as sweet and funny as Robin playing against type is only a good thing, we want people with range. I hope that film and Awakenings tie in the upcoming poll Matt Damon: I’m hoping we get The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) soon, where he also plays something you haven’t seen before. Ben Affleck: The Way Back (2020), a Basketball film I think you’d really like. The Last Duel (2021), a historic drama that he co-wrote with Matt Damon. Damon and Adam Driver are also in it. My favorite film of that year.

SEAN ƴü KAY

Been saying that for over a year you copy cat...joking aside I want a reaction of them both seeing Gifted, glad to hear I'm not the only one holding out for a Gifted reaction

SEAN ƴü KAY

They love Costner...why not go "Mr. Brooks".....before or after Ripley....I mean....ya...

Shehab Dawoud

Because I hate Costner, that’s why. But that’s actually a movie where he does some actual acting.

JL_83

PIB…it’s not your fault 😉 🍿

SEAN ƴü KAY

They love him so I thought it fit in the idea you were presenting

SEAN ƴü KAY

Also this is why I wish the discord was more active, I would love to hear your, and others, more in depth thoughts on this and other topics. I am all for 'falling down a rabbit hole' so to speak...

Wil Castillo

In my opinion, it's one of the best movies I've ever seen and it doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

John A

Now you have to watch Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season

SEAN ƴü KAY

It is up there for me as well...I also think it really fits the idea of this channel with one of the goals to shine a light on movies that haven't crossed her path but should have or did and ignored...I agree that the movie Gifted needs more eyeballs on it. I am very much aware of the political aspect of the industry tho....and it is not alone in that "great but sadly snubbed" category... Hope we get a Cass/Carr reaction someday

SEAN ƴü KAY

Alot of people dont realize both Kevin and Scott were executive producers on good will hunting (and other ones each party did at miramax).....great Jay and Bob nod tho...

Ike

This is what I call a BRAVE film because in the middle of all of this trauma and bad language, they managed to squeeze in humor, humility and a romance - that’s not easy to do and could have been a narrative disaster. I don’t think there is another movie like this. And if I recall Robin Williams, Matt and Ben all won an Oscar for this? Wow.

SEAN ƴü KAY

*Smith and Mosier respectfully...

Phillip Bates

This is one of my favourite films. It's just so special and satisfying in the end. I was working for Miramax in NYC when this film came out and I worked on the art for the marketing campaign and after seeing the screening, I was blown away, thinking that this was the best thing that Miramax had ever released. Robin, who went to Juliard, was a phenominal actor and had an amazing range. And Matt and Ben were so good in this, as well. It's funny that it's wasn't meant to be a hit, it was written as a vehicle for Matt and Ben to showcase their talent so that they could get more work. Funny how things work out! I can't wait for the Robin poll!

Stick Figure Studios

Excerpt from the original screenplay GOOD WILL HUNTING by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon: SEAN (cont'd) This is not your fault. WILL (nonchalant) Oh, I know. SEAN It's not your fault. WILL (smiles) I know. SEAN It's not your fault. WILL I know. SEAN It's not your fault. WILL (dead serious) I know. SEAN It's not your fault. WILL Don't fuck with me. SEAN (comes around desk, sits in front of Will) It's not your fault. WILL (tears start) I know. SEAN It's not... WILL (crying hard) I know, I know..

Tara ✨💫

I still have trouble believing that Matt and Ben wrote this movie while they were in their twenties and won an Oscar for it!!! No way would I be writing an Oscar winning screenplay at that age... Brilliant... just brilliant!

Brett Richey

Just want to give some love to Elliott Smith as well as Robin Williams of course. Elliott's music helps so much to make this film extra beautiful. His voice was so fragile and so full of heart. This is in my Top 10 films ever and the soundtrack is a huge part of that. I remember having to go see about a girl... more than once. But there's that special once that means more than any other... and Elliott's songs help me remember mine. RIP, Elliott and Robin. Both are missed beyond words can really truly express. Thank you for a perfect reaction, Cassie and Carly. I enjoyed the feels.

Daniel John

Cassie. If Carly didn't like it...it's not your fault.

Brett Richey

The story behind getting the film eventually made is worthy of a film itself. I've always loved Matt Damon... a true to his self and humble guy. Affleck deserves his praise too of course. I can't imagine how it felt to win that Oscar. Amazing.

Chris Thom

It's not her fault. It's not her fault. It's NOT her fault.

Brett Richey

Just another little observation that makes me cry is how Sean calls Will 'Son' and not 'Sport' in that final scene they share. It's a tiny yet huge acknowledgement of the love he has for Will. I'm sure it's no accident he said it in that moment. What a father Sean could have been... and what a son Will could have experienced being. Breaks your heart.

Chris Thom

Noticed that too. Great moment.

Chris Thom

Which bad guy movie were you thinking of? Or does that count as a spoiler?

Steve Holton

The repeating line there inspired from the Meisner school of acting, specifically the repetition exercise. It is usually just an acting class exercise, but here it used very effectively to pressure catharsis. The repeating line there inspired from the Meisner.. (Ok, I’ll stop)😊

Shehab Dawoud

I guess it would be a spoiler. There’s only one I can think of that fits the description, so if you’ve seen it, you know.

Brett Richey

https://youtu.be/dwsSbAKs3yo?si=WVvNHo8m9iLVhj7V One of my favourite Elliott Smith performances. It's on a Breakfast TV show where he's obviously a little uncomfortable being there. Yet when he performs his song Clementine after the initial chit-chat segment... the whole room is silent as they witness something both unexpected and equally breath-taking. They all seem mesmerised by the moment and any previous judgemental assumptions they may have had just melt away. They expected some raucous attitude-inflicted punk protest song - instead they experienced the voice of an angel. OK... I'll shut up now...

Clay F

When I watch this movie, makes me want to listen to Elliot Smith.

Clay F

Enjoyed the reaction. Cassie: “The second that [the movie] ended, I was like I don’t know how I am going to explain in the outro how I felt about that movie.” Carly: “Yes, because it’s like kind of crazy that it could be so vulgar and like crude in the language but it [the movie] was so magical too.” Agree with Cassie a “special movie” and on her immense praise of Robin Williams. Agree with Carly “the best ending” and that Matt Damon “so good, the best movie I have ever seen him in.”

Brett Richey

Nothing wrong with that, Clay. I'm glad to know you like his music.

Clarence Newman

Shehab. Is there a period of time and a modern day drawing involved?

Clarence Newman

I'm glad you clarified that, Sean. For a minute there, I was trying to get my head around Diesel and Razor Ramon producing a movie.

Clarence Newman

Another very well acted scene in this movie is the one in the bedroom when Skylar tries to call Will on his lies. Minnie Driver's reaction while Will is firing back at her is heartbreaking. Her rapid spiral of emotion as she repeatedly says "I didn't know that", "I didn't know that", until finally breaking down because she realises she can't undo the damage she's done.....ugh, that gets me every time.

mitchhamilton64

glad you like robin williams last line of "son of a bitch. stole my line" cause that was an improve by williams, as was the story about his wife farting. id also like to point out when shawn, robin williams was kicking will out, he wasnt abandoning him, will was the one abandoning shawn. he didnt wanna open up, he wanted to play games at a pivotal moment and shawn was telling him he wasnt gonna let him indulge himself at the expense of shutting down. its tough love

Canadianant

I love this one. Robin Is brilliant in this. Matt is wonderful and Ben gets some great moments as well. Despite the potty humour which is true to those characters , this movie has so much heart. We truly wish we all had a father figure like Sean and friends like Ben who have tremendous love and respect for will but can deliver the tough love when needed. Pretty wild that these guys wrote this as a couple of young guys trying to get started in the movie business and ended up winning an Oscar. This was such a great reaction. Thanks ladies. I'll be coming back to this one again and again.

Shehab Dawoud

@Clarence I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking, mate

Tyler Foster

I can think of at least two Robin Williams movies where he plays a darker character. Interestingly, both came out the same year, 2002. One is directed by Mark Romanek and the other is directed by Christopher Nolan. It would not surprise me if more people are thinking of the Nolan movie than the Romanek movie, but I think the Romanek movie is better. The Nolan movie is interesting, and one of the last ones where he used a different sort of style than the one he has now, but IMO it's also deeply inferior to the Norwegian original...which, bringing this full circle, starred Good Will Hunting's Stellan Skarsgard!

Sonny

At the end of the reaction they wonder about gifted people. Do they really exist? I watch a segment on 60 Minutes once where the actress Marilu Henner was featured because of her gift. And while not the same thing as Will Hunting, she and a very few others have what's called Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory. They're able to recall nearly every day of their lives in vivid detail. It's really impressive

Clay F

Yes, that story about the Indian is a true story. The story that Prof Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgård) told Sean (Robin Williams) about the genius Indian who went to Cambridge to do math is true. There is a movie about it that I like: "The Man Who Knew Infinity" (2015) with Dev Patel as the Indian and Jeremy Irons as the Cambridge professor he works with. "The Man Who Knew Infinity" (2015) (based on the 1991 book of the same name) is a biographical drama about the self-taught Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan (Dev Patel), who leaves India for Cambridge in 1913. The movie chronicles him navigating racism, and navigating academia to revolutionize mathematics with mentor G.H. Hardy (Jeremy Irons).

Mark White

Cassie! Cassie, cassie. You got me again! I knew it was coming near the end! For some reason when you get emotional I can’t help it😭 I didn’t realise it, but I think I needed that tonight. Great reaction. I was thinking of waiting for the YT edit. But I’m so glad I watched this. Thank you. And YOU have a special gift, it’s making awesome reaction videos! ❤️

Mark White

Agreed, heartbreaking.

Clay F

Ditto. Great post, Mark. Cassie emphathized with Will -- his background and the aftereffects on him at age 20.

Omar

Seconded

Zane From Canada

Definitely check out School Ties. (1992). Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Cole Hauser are in it. Also, has Brendan Fraser and Chris O'Donnell.

Brent Petty

I've said this before, but this is now the best duo reaction from you two. PLEASE don't edit this down to 30 minutes for the YT cut. This one should be minimum 45 minutes to an hour just to get the best parts of the reaction.

Brent Petty

A petition to install a permanent statue of Robin Williams on that bench has gained thousands of signatures, and Matt Damon has also voiced his support for this idea.

Brent Petty

Robin Williams was involved with the troops in real life. He did 8 USO tours to entertain deployed troops overseas. Some of the performances are on YouTube.

Brent Petty

Time to watch the whole thing again.

John

Oh Captain, my Captain!

MacGuffinStuff

I'm just imagining what that road trip would be like for Will, first time out of his home town. Sure he knows of it, just like Sean says, but to see it. Driving trucks a few years I got to cross the country many times and it's really beautiful, except right now, it sucks lol, I hated driving in the winter.

Cole Jennett

I was going to mention that if no one else had!

Cole Jennett

6th Annual Poppies best drama reaction winner!

Cole Jennett

Yet another resounding victory for the “rewatch” club! Keep em coming!!! Now I can enjoy this brilliant movie with two of my favourite people!🥰

Clay F

Very much enjoyed the reaction by you two. This reaction experience definitely fitting for (nicely responsive to) the Pollception outcome of Robin Williams finishing a strong 2nd after sci-fi. By they way, the sole Oscar that Robin Williams won in his career was for his role in GWH.

Rick Williams

Great reaction ladies. Great movie. Cassie, I knew you were going to lose it when Will finally let it out. And you made me tear up. You are dangerous. You feel things so hard and you make me feel it to. You are rough on guys. Make us get into our feeling. How do you do that? You are like a therapist to me. I think that is why you are the best at reactions. For me you are my therapist helping me deal with life. Thank you. I bought this movie just to watch your full reaction. It got delivered and 10 minutes later I was watching it with your reaction. I couldn't wait because I knew it would be special because this is a special movie and you are a special person. It is amazing how big your heart is. You are my God given solace.

Clay F

Agree with what you say (yes, heartbreaking scene), except Skylar didn't do any damage -- instead, that's all Will. Skylar broke down because Will was freakish and told her he didn't love her. She didn't break down because she realized she can't undo the damage she's done -- that doesn't even make sense. Sorry, just my interpretation. If you characterize that as Skylar doing damage that can't be undone, then she should wash her hands and walk away. Skylar acted normally and was sensitive. Will worked through it. The movie ended with Will driving to California to see her.

Uncle Phoenix

I was actually there when they filmed that.

Uncle Phoenix

BTW: There is a movie about Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Indian Mathematician from Cambridge that they were talking about in the Bar. The movie is called, “The Man Who Knew Infinity” (2015) featuring Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons.

Oisin Clissmann

I love that movie and I really hope it gets a reaction. Carly would like it too. Popcorn pick of the month maybe?

Robert da Spruce

This movie received 9 Academy Award Nominations. And won two Best Supporting Actor for Robin Williams and Best Original Screenplay for Matt and Ben And I think you’ll appreciate this Cassie. Matt And Ben took their Mom’s as their dates to the Academy Awards Show

JPDotCom23

Always a pleasure to watch the master; Robin Williams, at work. You really should just forget about it winning any poll and just watch 'Awakenings' with Robert DeNiro, directed by Penny Marshall of 'A League of their Own' fame. I didn't know she watched 'Insomnia', now I gotta watch that. She didn't watch 'Insomnia', at least not on this channel, what is she talking about?

Steve Smith

This was a great movie except for the fact of too many f-bombs which cheapened it a little.

Clay F

I don't think she has seen Insomnia (listed as "unseen" at Popcorn Requests). I recommend it but she did say she hopes a movie in which Williams is a bad guy doesn't win the poll.

Clay F

ROMANCE -Kate & Leopold (2001). Hugh Jackman, Meg Ryan. -Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). Penélope Cruz won an Oscar. -Sideways (2004) [RT 97%]. Nom 5 Oscars incl. Best Picture. -Adventureland (2009). Kristen Stewart. Summer 1987. -The Illusionist (2006). -Sing Street (2016). 1980s Ireland. RT 95%, RT Audience 92%. -Past Lives (2023) [RT 95%]. Bilingual = Korean/English. Nom Best Picture Oscar. -Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010).

JPDotCom23

Oh, then why did she say don’t make me watch another movie where he’s a bad guy, then told Carly he was a serial killer

Kevin Charley

Okay. You and Carly, instead of Marvel movies, or romance, need to watch these movies in this order: Clerks MallRats Chasing Amy Dogma Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Clerks II Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Clerks III

Clarence Newman

Agreed Clay, and it’s more clear now since I rewatched the scene on YT (haven’t watched the full reaction yet because I’m waiting for the DVD to arrive). What I meant was “inadvertent” damage (to the relationship itself, which she then realised she couldn’t bring Will back from.) The actual reason she breaks down is because the bit about Will having cigarettes put out on him hurt her badly. Great, great scene though. I’ve been a fan of Minnie Driver ever since.

Clay F

I don’t think she said “another” but said she heard or was told.

Christian Becker

Well, great reaction from you both. Personally, I like Dead Poets Society a little bit more for personal reasons - call me Nuwanda ;-) - but Good Will Hunting is also really great. Just for name recognition, I’ll throw in “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” as a quirky romance movie. Side note to Carly: It is NOT a movie about guys sitting in Yemen fishing. But there are fish involved in the movie.

Clay F

+1 for “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” Emily Blunt

Brett Richey

Minnie and Matt got together while filming and dated for a while. They split just before the Oscars in '98 which they both attended for the movie.

Clarence Newman

"Salmon Fishing In The Yemen" is one of those films I've never watched PURELY because the title bores me, and I therefore pass it over every time. I know that's dumb and I'm probably missing out on a great film, but man, that title.

Clarence Newman

+1 for Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Undoubtedly one of Cassie's all-time favourite films, but for the teeny tiny issue of having not watched it yet.

Clarence Newman

How come all these responses are suddenly upside down? Mark's was the first one, this is the last.

Clarence Newman

Now it's back to normal. Come on, Patreon, enough with these glitches. We're already having to deal with the main page taking a whole minute to load and threads whizzing all the way to the top when you post a response. Sort your damn product out!

Christian Becker

Yeah, the title is really unfortunate. But it tells a really lovely story. I think Cassie might like it, and I think for a light-hearted rom-com it is worth a watch.

Clarence Newman

Trying to honour your attempt to not mention the film title, Shehab. That's my cryptic way of suggesting the film where he develops pictures in a pharmacy. It's mentioned in a post below anyway, but I'm sure we're both talking about the same film.

prime78

Good reaction. Dang it I got something in my eyes when the girls saw the it’s not your fault scene. It seemed like a happy ending, but I heard Will became a scientist who searched for habitable planets and ended up alone and Sean wanted to develop photos in California and he ended up alone.

Shehab Dawoud

Oh. No, that is NOT the one I was thinking of, and I don’t think it’s the one Cassie was referring to.

prime78

I also recommend sing street.

Cole Jennett

If they ever do them, and I expect it would be just Cassie because of the language and crude humour, I hope she would stop after Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. In my opinion, Kevin Smith lost his mojo shortly afterwards.

Kevin Charley

Why would Carly not be able to take the language or the humor? She doesn't like violence.

Chris Thom

Trying to remember what the Sean reference is. Pretty sure it's not Armageddon.

Chris Thom

Yeah I can't really picture Carly enjoying those at all.

Chris Thom

My vote is for Sideways and Adventureland.

Chris Thom

Oh a statue there would be awesome. Great idea.

Chris Thom

Feels wrong to say that I enjoy seeing Cassie cry...but I do appreciate the emotion for some reason. Hoping that's not too vampiric. Reaction videos are a weird, wonderful thing.

Brent Petty

This one should win it in a walk!

John A

I just want her to watch Jay and Silent Bob, unfortunately she'd need to slob through the rest to get to it

MikeLL

This is reaction gold right here. Outstanding. Top tier.

Mark White

Yep, agree, it’s a weird thing. Rain man, a monster calls etc. excellent, amazing reactions. So heart felt.

Mark White

I’ve always been upside down 😂

Clarence Newman

Ooh. In that case I haven't seen it, because I can't remember seeing him as a flat out bad guy in anything else. After a little research, I'm thinking it's from 1996?

Rob Parry

For me it wasn't just Elliot Smith's music but Danny Elfman's score that made this movie even more special.

Brett Richey

3rd for Sing Street. Also Once, Flora and Son, and Begin Again. All four are John Carney directed films and all are fantastic - especially Sing Street and Once.

Brett Richey

Agreed. One of Elfman's best. One of those that's not particularly Elfman-esque. It was more subtle than his usual fare and blended beautifuly with the mood.

Shehab Dawoud

Nope. I’ll just leave it there and hope it gets watched.

Stick Figure Studios

Carly also just doesn't like crudity and vulgarity and those moves are very, VERY crude and vulgar.

Clarence Newman

To me, it’s about the humanity that comes out with the tears. It warms the soul to see a good person run the gamut of noble emotions while watching a great film, and Cassie is one of the best. Watching her react strangely renews my faith in the overall goodness that’s out there.

Cole Jennett

I think you may want to go back to that bit and watch it again. She hasn’t seen Insomnia, I think you misheard her.

Clarence Newman

OK, I've got it now. I'll try not to lose any sleep over it.

JPDotCom23

Oooh ok, I misheard that, she said "Don't you guys make me watch a movie where he's a bad guy, (to Carly) yeah, he plays a serial killer", Ok, I misunderstood. Wish she would watch 'Insomnia', at least for Al Pacino's performance.

Clay F

The title never bothered me. Goes with the quirkiness of the movie to me. With that said, I happened to catch the movie on TV when flipping through my cable premium channels — caught my attention without having to rely on the title.

Clay F

Yep, Carly definitely does not like crude vulgar language. A big negative for her.

Stick Figure Studios

Another movie similar to this one that you would probably enjoy, Cassie (and by the same director) is FINDING FORRESTER with Sean Connery.

Clay F

A kind reminder to react to “CHILDREN OF MEN” (2006) (thriller/action) [RT 92%] (No. 3 at PR). I think you will be engrossed. A Popcorn Pick of the month that could get 100k+ views. Clive Owen. Julianne Moore. Michael Caine.

OddThomas

More Robin Williams: Insomnia (Chris Nolan)

Clay F

Some of her favorite reactions are those with her crying her face off. See The Reactorverse Podcast Ep. 30: Popcorn in Bed (Apr 29, 2024). Eric: “What show or film gave you your favorite reaction experience with the channel?” Cassie: “Besides going to New York and watching that film there, that experience, some of my favorite reactions of myself are actually the ones where I’m like crying my face off. Because it just feels vulnerable but real, you know what I mean? Things [movies] like The Patriot or Cinderella [Man].” She had a great extended outro in Cinderella Man reaction in which she opens up and discusses a relevant personal experience. She wept big time in both The Patriot and Cinderella Man reactions = some of her favorite reactions of herself. When patrons say don't suggest or vote for movies that make her cry, I'm like why deprive her of that? Again, she said "some of my favorite reactions of myself are ... the ones where I’m like crying my face off." I will say that Million Dollar Baby she reacted to after the podcast seemed hard on her = too sad I think.

Chris Thom

Ohhh I had Sean as Ben Affleck. Whoops.

Chris Thom

She actually halfway prom prom'd Awakenings in a LIVE chat a year ago. Then forgot.

Clay F

+1 but she said she hoped the movie that wins Robin Williams poll is not w/him as a bad guy. But I may nevertheless vote for Insomnia if included in the poll. Sorry to Cassie but I think she would appreciate the movie.

Kevin Farrell

Ooohhh good pick, Clay! Including a great performance by Michael Caine too!

Canadianant

Count me with the chorus here. I love the early Kevin Smith stuff but the foul language and crude humour will definitely be too much for Carly and maybe Cassie . Don't get me wrong Kevin's movies have a lot of heart in them but I don't think they would be suitable for our ladies Maybe I could see her watching Jersey girl as it's a little more rom-commy and still has a bit of Kevin's flare to it but no jay and silent Bob. Maybe dogma as there is less of the crude stuff and has more Ben and matt in it. You also get Chris Rock Carlin Salma Hayek . Jay and silent Bob are just the side characters Cinebinge has watched a few of them and both George and Simone seem to find the humour and heart in them but for Cassie I'm just not sure . The og clerks is still my favourite with maybe chasing Amy or dogma following.

Clarence Newman

There's a line where it becomes too much and I don't enjoy those moments (Red Wedding etc). I don't enjoy seeing Cassie distressed, but I do enjoy seeing her emotions spilling over. Whether it's Cinderella Man (which she was totally invested in, not least because it struck a personal chord in her own life) or Smokey & The Bandit, where she just seemed to be in a great mood that day and smiled her way through the whole thing. I love seeing true emotions that reflect goodness and that's why I'm here. No one does it better than Cassie.

Clarence Newman

It's funny the strange things you hear about people. I swear I once heard that Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders has a medical condition where she literally cannot experience fear. I read/heard that 30 years ago. I tried to verify it a few months back (on Wikipedia etc) but can't find any mention of it.

Jason Dolan

Lets just assume Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting are the 1-2 punch for Robin Williams and I'm taking out Aladdin so his top ten must watch list would have to be (in my opinion): Awakenings The Birdcage The Fisher King Good Morning Vietnam Hook Insomnia Jumanji Mrs. Doubtfire I also have to recommend from director Gus Van Sant, his Keanu Reeves River Phoenix interpretation of Shakespeare's HENRY VI which is MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO, his Matt Dillon William S Burroughs romp DRUGSTORE COWBOY and of course the Nicole Kidman Matt Dillon classic TO DIE FOR

Chris Thom

Cassie did a Hook reaction with Kaielle if you haven't seen it yet.

Nick Skelton

No Patch Adams, or What Dreams May Come?

Chris Thom

I think What Dreams May Come might've been one of her earliest reactions...if I remember right.

Nick Skelton

Yeah just did a search for it , might have to watch that then.

Clay F

She also reacted to Good Morning Vietnam. She has seen Jumanji and Mrs. Doubtfire. The remaining 4 on your list are good: Awakenings The Birdcage The Fisher King Insomnia

Great reaction, Cassie and Carly 🥳 love this movie. i think i even own a copy on vhs🤫🤭 so glad Robin won an Oscar for this. (and Mat and Ben for screen writing) but Robin getting accolades from his peers really meant a lot.

Clay F

At your age, I was somewhat surprised you recognized the "Afternoon Delight" song (1976 Billboard No. 1 hit). I remember when that song was a hit and playing on the radio all the time.

When I first watched Insomnia I thought it was pretty good. As time has passed I like it more and more.

Fun fact number 1: When Ben & Matt wrote this, Robin William's part was written open, for any big star. They knew that it was only once Quentin Tarrantino cast Harvey Keitel (who was already a big name) in Pulp Fiction, the studio wrote Tarrantino a big cheque and basically said "Ok, you've got Keitel, here's your budget, go make the movie" and that's how that film got financed. They (Affleck & Damon) called Sean's role "The Harvey Keitel role", hoping that any big actor, male, female, white or black young or old could come in and do that role and make the studio want to bankroll the film. Fun fact 2: The fact that it happened to be Robin William's was a massive coincidence. Fun fact 3: Right at the end of this film, when Robin Williams was reading the note, that was supposed to be it. He was supposed to smile, and then that would've been the end of the film. The line "Son of a bitch, he stole my line" was completely improvised by William's on the spot.

Cassie, are you sure you watched this before if you forgot that Will Hunting is the character’s name?? 🤣 (I kid, I kid) Always bittersweet to watch Robin Williams. What a wonderful performance, but man it still hurts that he’s gone.

Chris Thom

If anything, she might remember it from Anchorman.

Chris Thom

The channel has changed quite a bit since those days. Much more slick and polished now.

Gray

I could never go back to the edited version, you lose out on so much.

Gray

I'm glad my memory was so poor in remembering this film, all I could remember was Minnie Drivers old couple story haha . This was such a good watch (got me teary eyed at the end too) and like others have said Robin Williams is just fantastic. I wonder what movie will be picked for the poll as there are still so many of his I haven't seen.

VOCFM

Shitty he killed himself and did that to everyone plus his children for sure

Brian

Yikes. How about some compassion for someone going through an incredibly progressive form of dementia

Brent Petty

Robin is the villain in two films that I know of. One of them was directed by Christopher Nolan.

Daniel Doble

On a related note: There was a man named Elliot Smith, he had a number of the songs on the Good Will Hunting soundtrack, including the Oscar-nominated "Miss Misery", and, of course, my favorite album of his: Either/Or (1997): "Between the Bars," "Angeles," "Ballad of Big Nothing," "Say Yes," "Alameda".. He died at 34 from (suspicious circumstances) from stab wounds to his chest. https://open.spotify.com/album/5bmpvyP7UGqB4VuXmrJUMy?si=rQMPd6qnT4Gx2mw0rXflCw

You can’t ignore The World According to Gary.

Great movie, I love watching it. Just realized Jay and Silent Bob were also involved. I never knew that. I also like the fact that the story about Sean's wife farting in her sleep and "Son of a bitch, stole my line were pure improv. RIP Robin Williams. Always and forever a true legend.
