Even though this was Alaska, it felt very Canadian. Very fun to see some familiar faces and have we seen a sports movie that we didn’t love? no actually have we? So fun, inspiring and cute-actually going to try the baked potato thing for my boys haha

Wes

Under the radar film. Glad you go to watch this Cassie!

Edgar Gonzalez

This is a first time for me too. Aight fam, let's check it out!

Michael West

It was filmed in Alberta, so that probably helped make it feel Canadian 😁. Cute little feel good movie.

Cole Jennett

Haven’t watched this one in awhile. I remember it being a little cheesy as far as the hockey stuff goes, but I still found it to be lots of fun.

Night King01

It was filmed in Alberta Canada maybe thats why it felt canadian

Above Average Dave

Fun-fun-fun! If you''re looking for a sports movie for late March beginning to baseball season, THE ROOKIE with Dennis Quaid is not only great for The Channel®, it's a fun family film and, your fave, based on a true story. Hope you, Ben and the kids are feeling better!

Christian Becker

Great! Just got home from work and Cassie has a movie for me to watch. Happy day! :-)

Anthony Carlson

I never seen this before so I’m curious how’s this going to go…

Cole Jennett

I think she has mentioned seeing it in the past

Clay F

"a little cheesy as far as the hockey stuff goes" -- I've read that criticism of the movie -- but I will see what I think when I watch the reaction/movie. Yet, I have not watched much hockey in my life -- so I am no hockey expert. I also read that some find the movie fun.

Cole Jennett

The less hockey you’ve seen, the less bothered by it you will be. But it’s much better than some depictions of hockey in movies

Above Average Dave

Ahh, understood. I did not recall seeing in the ever-expanding list of films seen.

Clay F

+1 for The Rookie. Given as "unseen" at popcornrequests but that could be wrong.

KyloJames

You should check out “Into the Wild” (set in Alaska)! Based on a true story, too. Really beautiful film about a guy who leaves a life of privilege behind to find himself in the wilderness. Sounds kind of bizarre, but a really emotional journey about a son who just wanted his parents to understand him. Think you’d like it!

Just Plain Bob

Just saw that they’re rebooting “The Rockford Files” with David Boreanaz as Jim Rockford. I’m a HUGE fan of the original series, which starred James Garner. Garner’s Rockford was glib, charming, funny and intelligent. But the emphasis was on his charm, which Garner possessed in abundance. I liked Boreanaz as Angel in the series of the same name and, before that, in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” He’s got the brooding, angst-y thing down pat. But I can’t see him as the charming, glib Jim Rockford. Had they rebooted the show a decade ago, Bruce Campbell would’ve been perfect. But not Boreanaz. I think this is gonna be a complete miss. Meanwhile, if anyone’s interested, the entire original series is available for streaming on Amazon. Gonna go watch my Blu rays of the series now.

JL_83

remember the trailer for this back in the 90s but never actually saw it…now that you have a reaction to it though I’ll be sure to give it a look, thx

Kyle K

Hello from Alaska 😁

Uncle Phoenix

I know Cassie didn’t like Kill Bill; but I hope that she gets to see the 2004 documentary “Double Dare”. It’s about the stunt woman, Zoe Bell, who doubled for Uma Thurman in “Kill Bill” (2003).

Above Average Dave

Bruce Campbell would be genius casting — great call! James Garner was not only one of Hwood's good guys who knew all the behind the camera people by name, he wasn't afraid to call stars on their BS. He went toe to toe with head case supreme Steve McQueen on the shoot of THE GREAT ESCAPE, calling him out for Diva behavior and getting McQueen to back down several times. There are other stories like this for other productions, and everyone loved him as Jim Rockford.

Rick Williams

You liked it. Just a little to gory for you.

Michael West

Mary McCormack was in ER and she also played Kate Harper in the last three seasons of West Wing

Clay F

I watched the original series as it aired and loved it. NBC described the original series as “about Jim Rockford, an ex-convict-turned-private-investigator who would rather run away than fight and would rather go fishing than work. He isn't a coward, and he isn't lazy -- just rather on the cautious side, that's all.”

Milton Reduxed

For more elder Burt Reynolds BOOGIE NIGHTS (1997) awaits! It would be a good collab with Kat actually

Canadianant

Great soundtrack for sure

Canadianant

A lot of fornicating with some hockey thrown in there! Lol this was actually pretty good . They really built out a good team of side characters with everyone. Sort of having their own side story as well.

Just Plain Bob

Question for anyone that’s watched “Three Body Problem” on Netflix. Which is better, the Netflix version or the series “Three Body” streaming free on Amazon? I’ve read the Amazon version is deeper and more thoughtful, but also much slower. And how does either stack up against the book? Should I read the book (series) first or watch one of (or both) the shows?

Just Plain Bob

PS to above: I’m a big believer in trying to adhere to the original artist’s vision. It’s my understanding that the Amazon version does so. Is that the case?

Mike Lemon

"A lot of fornicating with some hockey thrown in there!" 'it felt very Canadian.' Hmm...

Uncle Phoenix

Ok, Let Me Explain: Zoe Bell is such a sweet lady, from New Zealand. She totally reminds me of that young man, Julien Dennison, who played Ricky Baker from “The Hunt for the Wilderpeople” (2016). Anyways, I thought that seeing Quentin and Zoe together; might inspire Cassie to watch some more ALTERNATIVE Movies, like Robert Rodriguez’s classic action-film “Desperado” (1995).

Mojo One Thousand

I knew that this would be enjoyed by the ladies, as it kinda in their wheelhouse. That's a reason why it was one of my 5 picks I had ways back. But also because it is also pretty good. Although it has ice hockey at it's centre it more a story of family and community in a small town. I did think it was going to interesting watching some of this because of content, especially with the snow plow, and that made for an enjoyable reaction. This was co-written by David E. Kelley at about the peak of his powers in the late 90s, as he was know for shows like "The Practice" and "Ally McBeal" and later "Boston Legal" with Shatner. This would have be a reason that the movie was about to get up and running. And, Jay Roach, the director, had just directed the first "Austin Powers", which may be why there was a little Mike Myers cameo in there, which I enjoyed when Cassie figured it out. Even though the costume is not overbearing, there is enough that it can throw folks off. This was between "LA Confidential" and "Gladiator" for Russell Crowe, so it was still when he was on the rise, so he only had a few Hollywood movies under his belt at this point, not sure if there is more after you include "Virtuosity" with Denzel Washington, which I think was prior to "LA Confidential" I love that Cassie's reference for Burt Reynolds is Norm McDonald's version of him as "Turd Fergusson" on "SNL", which is something which probably should be remedied at some point. A lot of the faces seemed familiar because they have popped on the channel a little bit. "Scott" the mayor is played by Colm Meaney, whom has been I know has been on the channel in "Con Air" as the belligerent DEA agent with the corvette, and also as "Chief O'Brien" on "Start Trek: The Next Generation". I mainly know Kate McCormack ("Donna Biebe") from the last few seasons "The West Wing", but someone else has noted she was in "ER", which I don't think I remember. I first saw her in a legal limited series from the '90s called "Murder One", which also the first time I saw Stanley Tucci as he was great in the first season. I think Hank Azaria has popped in a couple of things, the only thing I can really think of is that very enjoyable over-the-top scene in "Heat" opposite Al Pacino. But most people know him as basically doing about half the voices on "The Simpsons" with Harry Shearer doing the other half. He was also Helen Hunt's partner for quite a long time. "Skank" is played by Ron Eldard, whose was also in "ER" for a bit, I think as a paramedic, but he has appeared on the channel, as the pilot that was capture in "Black Hawk Down", as well as "Scent of a Woman" and "Deep Impact". We recently saw Maury Chaykin ("Bailey Pruitt") as one of the "Klane" brothers (probably the smartest one) in "Twins", but he was also in "Dances with Wolves", and "My Cousin Vinny". Kevin Durand ("Tree") we saw in "X-men Origins: Wolverine" with Hugh Jackman, and in the "3:10 to Yuma" remake with Russell Crowe, they have collaborated on a few movies together. But he was most recently doing a motion capture performance as "Proximus Ceaser" in "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes". And, Little Richard was a very talented and successful real-life musician who became popular in the 1950s. who sadly passed away only a few years ago.

Kawaii Leonard

IDK about the Amazon version but Tencent and Netflix co-produce to make a Western version on Netflix (10 eps) and a Chinese version on Youtube (on Tencent channel, 30 eps w/ English subs). I've watched the 1st episode and it's good, although I never went back to finish the series for some reason...

Just Plain Bob

I think the YouTube/Tencent show is the Amazon show, since they both have 30 episodes. Thanks for the info.

Cole Jennett

As a hockey fan it was a little tough to swallow it being a competitive game, but if you suspend your disbelief it’s still fun. She also saw Colm Meaney, the mayor, in Far and Away. “You knocked the piss out of the man who knocked the piss out of me. I’m not sure how I feel about that.”😂

Edgar Gonzalez

Almost forgot...Its Friday the 13th yall!

Just Plain Bob

Or his wonderful collaborations with QT, like “From Dusk Till Dawn” and “Grindhouse.”

Chris Thom

Dang, missed opportunity.

MikeLL

File under"Find your own copy": I always watch these reactions online, so I'm always looking hard for a free copy. I found this movie for free online at: https://indigenousfilmarchive.com/Mystery-Alaska I've never seen this, so happy to watch along with my favorite sister duo.

Cole Jennett

Well you will get another chance in 4 weeks

Chris Thom

A&W is an elite root beer. Had one yesterday and it was incredible. Respect.

Chris Thom

I love finding a free one, but sometimes there's like twenty five commercials embedded in them at random intervals, and it gets very annoying.

Chris Thom

That post just took me back to that Nickelodeon show that used to air. Unlocked memory.

Clay F

I drank A&W root beer 50 years ago as a kid.

Cole Jennett

Even better in an ice cold mug at the restaurant.

Clay F

Sometimes, as a kid, we would get a scoop of vanilla ice cream in that ice cold mug of A&W root beer at the restaurant = root beer float.

Virtuosity. Almost forgot about that one. Until Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind I thought of Crowe as the ultimate villain.

Chris Thom

Keep clicking the bottom right until you get it on its own YouTube page. Way less glitches.

Chris Thom

Think the first restaurant and factory was in my mom's home town. I very rarely see them nowadays. Only one nearby is randomly in a very small lake town up in the mountains. Been there exactly once, but I remember it being good.

Milton Reduxed

Because Patreon seems to accumulate more bugs & glitches over time instead of fixing bugs & glitches For me I have to watch the youtube video as it's the only option that plays properly

Jay

You should consider watching Without Limits (1998) starring Billy Crudup as Olympian Steve Prefontaine. Very good

Just Plain Bob

FANTASTIC film. I’m not generally a fan of sports movies but that one is terrific.

Mojo One Thousand

@Cole, to be fair, suspending disbelief is basically required for pretty much any fictional story, but particularly with a subject where one has an above average knowledge of the the subject. So, I get that. I typically set all that aside for the first viewing, and then if the story is not compelling enough the suspension may get strained or disappear where those inaccuracies can grate. North American sports probably don't lend themselves to these sorts of stories in the real world, because of how they operate. However, elsewhere in the world they can depending on the sport and the format of the competition. We have a lot more international fixtures, where national teams compete and so there can be the odd occasion where a country that would be considered a minnow can overcome one of the bigger fish, the Irish and Afghan cricket teams are examples of this in the past 5-10 years. Also, I remember an example in the last year's FA Cup (soccer/football) in the UK. Due to the structure of the competition a 3rd or 4th division team was able to beat and knockout one of the top English Premier League teams. Although they are both professional teams, there is a huge disparity in skill and player worth. So, I can suspend my disbelief on a one-off game where a professional team under plays and an underdog team over performs. Kind of the reason that US sports have a lot of competitions that have 5-7 game playoff series, playing consistency over time versus one-off good/poor performances. Also, thanks for "Far and Away", I still never seen that, so I will need to add that to my list to catch up on.

Uncle Phoenix

It’s easier to search, “Zoe Bell”.

Rick Williams

They lost. It would not be fun living in a frozen place like that. Nothing to do but hockey and fornicating. Good reaction Cassie & Carly.

Clay F

The only way to get to the youtube video is to first open Patreon reaction in its own tab.

JPDotCom23

Thanks, I didn’t know that

Chris Thom

I thought it was Jared Leto that played Fontaine?

Jay

Oddly enough, Leto did play Pre in a different film “Prefontaine” which released the same year in 1998. Having seen both, I prefer the Crudup version. I wonder if there has ever been other biopics featuring the same person released in the same year.

Popcorn In Bed

i havent even heard of this-checking it out! I loved BC in Almost famous and the first season of the morning show

Richard Maurer

Cassie saw her in the movie Deep Impact. She was the female astronaut.

Richard Maurer

She also played Howard Stern’s wife in Private Parts.

Jeffrey Smith

One of my all time favorite sports movies. So glad you two watched I knew you would both love it. Russell Crowe was awesome in it and one of the few movies with him that isn’t so serous or have a dark side to it. Great all around cast. Just one of those movies you don’t ever really get tired of . Thank you for the great reaction.

Zane From Canada

I haven't watched Mystery, Alaska since it came out in 99. 😄

crazyivan

To explore Russell Crowe's rom-com side, you need to check out "A Good Year" (2006). Or another sports movie, with a little romance for the ladies - try "Wimbledon" (2004) with Paul Bettany and Kirsten Dunst.
