Snake Snake he’s our man!!! If he can’t do it NO ONE can!!!

Brian McGovern

Those fonts for Post and Pre 1980's was tripping me out. No apostrophe and the S looking like a 5, I thought I was seeing 19085.

Brian McGovern

Looking at the Trivia for this movie and you can totally hear that it is Jamie Lee Curtis doing the voice over at the start. Also suprised to see James Cameron did the matt paintings for the New York city skyline.

Chris Thom

Cameron painted them himself? Really?

Brian McGovern

Everything he says sounds "bedroomy"? Seems like an interesting bit of insight into their married life. :)

Chris

It's kind of a sad movie, considering how they were just so sure that the World Trade Center would just be there for all time.

Stephen Malloy

Pro wrestler Ox Baker played the guy Snake fought in the death match.

Andrew Heller

Even though its pretty much the same, still can be fun…should do Escape From La

Robert Jewell

You know, the Kurt Russell film I really want you to see is BREAKDOWNu (1997).

Clay F

Great reaction. Glad you liked Kurt Russell here. Skip Escape from L.A.

John Armbruster

Cameron made the New York city model. Computer graphics were not sophisticated enough to render the wire frame view of the glider display. Cameron applied florescent tape to all the building edges and lit it by blacklight to simulate a computer display. He learned well from his time with Roger Corman

John A

Bone Tomahawk for your next Kurt Russell movie!

Clay F

I am in the premier now, but jumping to GoT full reaction.

Chris Thom

Was going to watch this in full tonight...but I'm too tired. Maybe LATER.

Just Plain Bob

Chris, James Cameron got his start doing set decoration for low budget producer Roger Corman. In interviews, Corman talked about how talented Cameron was and his genius at taking cheap props and making them part of the set. He particularly mentioned the time that Cameron worked on a low budget sci fi film and glued spray painted egg cartons to the walls of the hallways to make them appear hi tech. I’ve seen the film and it was surprisingly effective.

Happy Hanukkah

23:44 Absolutely nothing. Not anymore.

Christian Becker

Greetings! I didn’t expect Cassie to like that one. But as it seems, Snake did the job to turn it around for her ;-). As I already wrote in the full reaction comments, a John Carpenter poll should be considered - perhaps for October? There are still some good ones left. One of my favorites is Assault on Precinct 13 (1976). That was the first Carpenter movie where I didn’t "poop" myself as a kid, having seen only The Thing and Halloween before that one.

Collar City Guy

Maggie/Adrienne Barbeau was married to the director John Carpenter when this film was made, lucky John!

Kevin O'Donnell

Good reaction, surprised you liked the movie so much, its not for everyone! I am going to be controversial here and say I prefer escape from LA 🙂 but for the budget escape from new York is pretty good for its time.

CJ Holden

I don't think I ever saw Cassie so worried when the name of a director showed up. :D You really have to watch STARMAN and MEMOIRS OF AN INVISIBLE MAN, which are respectively Carpenter's most romantic and funniest movies (Although he disowned INVISIBLE MAN due to studio and Chevy Chase interference.) Carpenter did indeed write a backstory for everything, including how Snake got his eye patch, but none of it was deemed important enough for the lean, mean movie he had in mind. Donald Pleasance even came up with a backstory to explain the US President's British accent (In short: After a war the UK became part of the US), but again, they decided to just not put it in the movie. There also was a deleted opening that shows how Snake got caught. He was doing a heist with a friend, but had to leave him behind. In the last second he decided to go back and get him, only to see that the cops already shot him. It wasn't used for pacing reasons and because it painted Snake too much of a not-so-bad guy early on, while during the movie we are never supposed to know how selfish he actually is. Also if you listen closely to the bit from the mysterious tape that Snake destroys, it's clear that "the solution to safe mankind" is the manual to build the biggest, deadliest nuclear weapon of all time, so in a way, Snake might have saved the world by destroying it. Random story: During a test screening the audience was completely silent and Carpenter got nervous, because he had no idea if they were bored or really into the movie. Then when Cabbie died, the whole theater went "Awwwwwwwww". Who doesn't like Ernest Borgnine? And they obviously loved the movie.

Richard Maurer

Since I had already watched the full movie on Patreon, I put the YouTube version in the background while I worked on something else. It’s always nice to hear Cassie’s pleasant voice, even if I’m not paying attention to the screen.

Joe J

Another maddeningly short YT reaction, same as A Fistful of Dollars.😢

Richard Maurer

Not sure why they’re doing shorter ones now but I assume they have their reasons.

Joe J

Richard - It's a choice for sure. Even 5 more minutes can really help the flow and enjoyment of the edited reaction. Not everyone has the time or interest in watching full-lengths.

Richard Maurer

It could be a copyright thing, might be to cut back on editing time and cost, might be they just didn’t think there was enough good content - this is a 80’s movie with a 1 hr 39 min run time. So there’s not as much to work with content wise.

Collar City Guy

Also should have mentioned that I was hoping Cassie would have recognized Ernest Borgnine/Cabbie from The Poseidon Adventure. Loved Ernest, RIP.

Joe J

You can say that Richard, but other reactors to this film have chosen to give us longer edits. Edits in the last few years are generally much longer across the board....so viewers do come to expect that. I will make a prediction that both edits for Logan's Run and The Day the Earth Stood Still will be sub-30 mins also. I really hope I'm wrong.

Richard Maurer

I have to admit I prefer shorter edits for YouTube. If I really care about the movie I watch the full reaction. That being said we really don’t know why they’re doing shorter reactions, maybe a mod might know?

Joe J

I would also think very truncated edits would hurt views on YT. Cassie did increase the length of GoT edits because of complaints. Curious situation for sure.

Mark White

Yes Cassie, Oblivion is worth a watch.

Clay F

Seems reasonable for such a short movie. But, Joe, I feel for you. I am sure another 5 minutes would have been nice. They may be anticipating copywright problems to avoid hassle of rework. I never watch an edited reaction. I either watch the full reaction or skip the full and edited reactions altogether. Many of the movies she reacts to I have never seen or don't really remember. Thus, watching an edited reaction would be gibberish to me. Plus, full reactions are much better in that I pick up more nuances of her performance. As you know, options for a PiB Patreon member w/access to full reactions include (1) accept/enjoy edited reaction best one can, or (2) make time to watch full reaction (my recommendation -- not much more time commitment, especially w/only 2 PiB movie reactions per week), or (3) skip both the full and edited reactions if not enough interest.

Clarence Newman

Haven't watched this yet. I have some catching up to do.

Joe J

She's all onboard with Kurt, lol. Otherwise the film would be a complete snooze-fest for Cassie.

Joe J

Clay, you will appreciate the irony in that the shortest edit Cassie posted last year was for your favorite Lost in Translation (25.17min on a 1h 41min run-time). Good thing you don't watch edits, lol.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - Noticed you haven’t been posting with your usual verbosity.

Clarence Newman

I'm embedded in a legal battle with the corporate buttwipes that made me redundant, Richard. Not to mention the minor issue of trying to find a new job. PiB is a good de-stresser for me usually, but sometimes I just need to step out. The bad news for you guys is I'm never away long.

Richard Maurer

Good luck, with everything. Stay strong.

Clarence Newman

Oh I've got them by the balls, mate. The MD manipulated the redundancy matrix, which is literally criminal fraud. He gave me 1.5 out of 5 for "Attendance and Conduct", despite me never missing a day in 2 years and never receiving one e-mail, letter or quiet word in the ear about my conduct. The guy's so arrogant he didn't even try to be subtle about it. The result is an undefendable smoking gun that he's going to pay me a few zeros for. I may also take his firstborn and most of his fingers.

Richard Maurer

Good - take him for all he’s worth.

Richard Maurer

I was hoping he has some money, if nothing else. Worth as a person is something else entirely.

Mark White

That’s really crap mate, I hope everything gets sorted soon for you. 🫰

Clarence Newman

Thank you both. The MD is not worth much as a human being, but he’s going to cost his corporation a small fortune. They can afford it but I doubt they’ll be happy with him.

Richard Maurer

Maybe he’ll get fired. I don’t normally wish for people to get fired, but some people deserve it.

Clarence Newman

Maybe. I'm giving him plenty of chance to get out with his ass by settling, but if he doesn't take it, I'll be after way more than that in court - including his job
