Kyle K

But if its Kingdom of Heaven it MUST be the directors cut.

LukeG84

Tears of the Sun stars Bruce Willis. Need I say more!

Zane From Canada

If Kingdom Of Heaven wins, make sure you watch the directors cut.

Dan W

directors cut.

Uncle Phoenix

The only reason I didn’t vote for “kingdom of heaven” is because it didn’t say “director’s cut”.

dachen13

Watch midway for the anniversary later in the year. If kingdom of heaven wins, which would be the dream, then the director’s cut is non negotiable!!!

Eric Brown

Agreed - it's the only real cut of the movie that makes sense

Tomt39

Kingdom of Heaven has to be the Director's Cut.

Steven Perez

If KINGDOM OF HEAVEN wins, you may want to watch the Director's Cut, which I feel is superior to the theatrical cut.

Rosario Cicero

Here’s me praying that Downfall is in the secondary poll

chevchev

Kingdom of Heaven directors cut.

Blake Evans

Please let it be Kingdom of Heaven. Such a phenomenal film! But it HAS to be the Directors Cut.

Phil Stubblefield

1. The Longest Day 2. Midway 3. A Bridge Too Far Hmmm, I guess I'm a WWII history fan...

Eric Wallace

Directors cut on kingdom of heaven

Larry Darrell

She will be very clearly made to understand that she has to watch the Director’s Cut. For sure.

Dryfesands

The Longest Day, A Bridge Too Far and Zulu are the only ones here worth considering as great movies.

DeGeezy

Directors cut KOH as well

Baroness Jennifer

If you think life is going by you too fast, then by all means watch The Thin Red Line. Time will begin to crawl. Seems like it took 10 hours to watch that movie. Maybe this was an anti-war film? By making the battle of Guadalcanal so god-awful boring it’ll turn people off from war altogether?

Raymond Terry

You must find the Director's Cut version of Kingdom of Heaven. A completely different movie from the theatrical cut, and it turned around my opinion of the entire film. Edit: The Thin Red Line and A Bridge Too Far are options 2 and 3 for me.

Connor P

If you do Kingdom of Heaven make sure it's the Director's cut

DavidJPL

I haven't seen "Three Kings" in a long while, but I know that I love it because I own it (great cast). And as I recall - regarding Gold and Oil in the Middle East - it might seem pretty timely right now!

MikeLL

I would love for Cassie to watch The Longest Day. Shockingly, I've never seen this newest film on the poll that is in first place, this Kingdom of Heaven. If the majority must have it, I guess there must be something to it.

JB

Agree

Stick Figure Studios

I echo the sentiment that if KINGDOM OF HEAVEN wins, you HAVE to do the directors cut. It's an entirely different film from the theatrical cut (with important characters that aren't even present in the other one) and so much better. It's the one film I always cite as having the biggest disparity in quality between versions. The theatrical cut is mediocre at best. The director's cut is brilliant. Still, I'm hoping for THE THIN RED LINE (one of the best films I've ever son), thougb I know it almost certainly won't win. It's a little too "artistic" for most people.

Larry Darrell

Yeah, it’s pretty good. Pretty dern good. It’s one of my favorites of the 21st Century. It doesn’t immediately come to mind when I think of War Movies, but I guess it does fit after thinking about it.

Above Average Dave

I saw it at the theater when it came out with some Pacific veterans. Halfway through, one of them blurted out, “Is this movie about birds, because it sure ain’t about the war!”

Brian's Dog

A Bridge Too Far & Battle of Britain just got 4k upgrades.

Keith Brown

Zulu is the film that started Michael Caine on his career plus it is a great action epic with a music score by the great John Barry !

djKENTO

Kingdom of Heaven HAS TO BE THE DIRECTOR'S CUT! Literally not even worth watching the other cut because it's so butchered.

John Neiberger

Agreed. If that wins, it *must* be the director's cut.

Stick Figure Studios

My introduction to Terrence Malick. Saw it in the theater with my dad and didn't know what to make of it at first. I didn't dislike it, but it was very different from what I was expecting (which was something more straightforward and conventional like SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, which came out earlier that year). It took a couple more Malick films before I finally started to "get" his particular kind of poetic cinema. Now he's one of my favorite filmmakers and TTRL is a marvelous meditation on the nature of war itself rather than a literal document of a particular battle.

Andrew Mote

Thin Red Line being slept on. Terrance Malick is a master of his craft.

Milton Reduxed

Voted for everything except Kingdom of Heaven

KyloJames

Like many others, I suggest Director’s Cut of ‘Kingdom’ — there’s sooooo much detail and context left out of the theatrical version.

Andrew Taylor

I’ll reiterate what many people will be saying . kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut only

dachen13

The best of the two 1998 ww2 films (IMHO)

Louis Chapman

I picked three of the 4 I've seen. 3 Kings, thin red and Tears

Paul Lovett

If you do Kingdom of heaven it needs to be the extended cut

pickupthepieces

I think when people may not know some or a lot of the movies on the poll they just choose the newest ones or the one with known modern stars. Not saying it's bad, but there are much better ones. /EndSnobbishRant

Andrew Heller

Thats my vote, although the one scene is real hard to watch

Andrew Mote

Agreed. Malick is one of favorites. Tree of Life changed my life.

Ron White

I paid to buy the Directors Cut to watch with another reactor because the theatrical cut is so awful. This is the only version worth watching. It turns it into an incredible film!

Alexander

Kingdom Of Heaven Director’s Cut, I agree with most people already suggesting it. This version is exponentially better than the theatrical release. Also the acting, the photography, everything is a masterpiece. You won’t be disappointed.

Henry Graham

The Thin Red Line is not just a film about a specific war. It's a film about war itself - the war that men wage as an intrusion and corruption of the natural world, the conflict that rages within each individual, and a glimpse of the paradise that we have lost through our destructive human natures. It is a poetic masterpiece that reaches higher and further than any other film on this list.

Stick Figure Studios

@Andrew: it was my first Malick. TREE OF LIFE is my all-time favorite film.

Robert Baldino

I'm going to be the dissenting opinion here and say DON'T watch the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut. It's overly long and includes a lot of superfluous material. The movie is famously a mess anyway and the director's cut doesn't make it any better.

Cole Jennett

You guys can stop suggesting The Director’s Cut, she already acknowledged that will be the version she watches.

Rod Reavern

Good to see “Kingdom of Heaven” is winning, so far. I was really meh on the other choices. Cassie mentioned “Kelly’s Heroes” during the livestream, so I assume it must be on the 2nd poll. I know that technically there are plenty of war movies left that Cassie can react to, but she’s already watched the universally beloved must-see war movies, and approaching the point of diminishing returns. If Spielberg’s “1941” ever ends up on a poll, it’s time to move on.

Allen W. McDonnell

Midway, Zulu and A Bridge Too Far are the classics I grew up with, they need a separate poll so the youngsters don;t erase them.

Henry Graham

All this talk about the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut makes me wonder, does it edit Orlando Bloom out of the film entirely? That is the main way I could have seen the film being improved.

Larry Darrell

I normally would agree with you, but I can’t say anything negative about Kingdom of Heaven. That’s a reaction I’ve wanted since joining. It’s looking like it doesn’t even need my vote, and I’ll be happy with it. This don’t happen very often.

LukeG84

Agreed Stick. One Cassie needs to watch at some point. Too bad it doesn’t look like it’s going to win this poll.

LukeG84

Yeah, it’s been a very long time since I watched it but I know what scene you’re referring to. Still worth Cassie watching.

Keith Jones

I too have have heard/seen every other movie on both polls and never even head of this one let alone the apparently massive love for the directors cut. After watching the trailer it's just not a genre I enjoy so I probably just dismissed it when it came out, but no memory of every hearing of it...weird

Stick Figure Studios

He's definitely a weak spot in the film (it's why GLADIATOR is a better movie, because it's got Russel Crowe in the lead), but it adds a lot of other stuff that makes up for him.

Stick Figure Studios

An interesting and unusual perspective. I respect that. It's wrong, but I respect it. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

It also highlights what an underrated actor Bruce Willis was.

J

Needs to be Directors cut for KoH because there were THREE story lines that are either cut or rendered null in the theatrical release. It's literally an entirely different film.

David Cansler

Unfortunately a film like Midway has no chance on this poll. A great movie.

Nathan Swapp

Remember to do the director's cut for kingdom of heaven

Keith Jones

I'm worried the if Kingdom wins it will not be the directors cut, this is something I think everyone needs to post to make sure it happens, if the theatrical cut is used the time space continuum may break and we will all fall into a different reality...

Robert Evans

It's still ahead of Zulu a perfectly terrific movie.

Cole Jennett

It’s been addressed. She will watch the Director’s Cut

Larry Darrell

I think we still need a few more. You never know. The dam might break and we’ll lose the Director’s Cut forever.

Shaun

Thank you Mr. Helper!

Shaun

Agree!

Robert Baldino

Nope, I'm right. :P Another problem with the director's cut is that it makes the movie even less historically accurate, if that's even possible.

Milton Reduxed

Zulu just isn't the same without the spear-thrower line. Removing it to be culturally sensitive & anti-racist, when the entire movie has the Zulu throwing spears, is ridiculous

Rod Reavern

I agree. My point is that eventually Cassie will watch all the good war movies, and then the just-okay war movies will be left. If we get down to “1941” or, worse, “Windtalkers,” PiB should just drop war movie polls. I honestly dread that “Windtalkers” might win a poll against “Sisu” or “Overlord” (2018), just because it’s more lamestream, which means it’ll get more votes, no matter how terrible it is.

Larry Darrell

There’s more to it than just a “War Movie” label. Much Much More.

Robert Baldino

I'm a fan, but I think one of the problems is that you really have to watch it more than once to grasp what it's trying to say. Also, I would love it if someone took all the unused footage and cut the film into a miniseries.

Stick Figure Studios

I haven't seen WIND TALKERS myself, but there's still plenty more great war films to watch.

Stick Figure Studios

Agreed. All Malick films tend to be more rewarding on repeat viewings.

Alex Villarreal

I tried to get Three Kings through when I won the trivia. Don’t think it’ll win but it has a fighting chance.

Cole Jennett

I mean seriously, does no one think to look to see if anyone else mentioned it already. First thing I do when I think of something is see if someone else already mentioned it before saying anything so I don’t look foolish.🤷‍♂️

Richard Maurer

Cassie, you need to watch the extended version of Lord of the Rings…….wait, wrong movie. I meant the director’s cut of……………some movie. It’s right on the tip of my tongue. What was it?!?

Jennifer Medicus

It's long (ha!) but The Longest Day is a must. Watched it with my dad and learned so much. Although I was studying German in college and he liked to quiz me.

Jennifer Medicus

Ooh, she actually mentioned Kelly's Heroes?? Maybe one of my all time favorites. It needs more love. I think I had put it in as a suggestion at some point.

Brent Petty

Kingdom of Heaven only if it's the Director's Cut. This IS a hill I will die on.

Catherine LW

Zulu is my favorite on this list. 😞

Catherine LW

Kingdom of Heaven is too cynical and anachronistic in its sensibilities. Couldn’t finish it.

Brent Petty

Agreed. He is the weakest link. I have always idly wondered how good it could have been if Heath Ledger had been cast in that role.

Brent Petty

Three Kings is my second choice, but Tears of the Sun and Thin Red Line are good choices as well.

Brent Petty

I just realized how many 60's and 70's WW2 films used the word "bridge" in the title. Bridge on the River Kwai, A Bridge Too Far, Bridge at Remagen...

Richard Maurer

Cole - She should watch the directors cut. ;-)

Richard Maurer

Now, about that director’s cut……. ;-)

shaneth138

Kingdom of Heaven HAS to be the directors cut.

Burger On Couch

The director’s cut is GREAT. Theatrical cut was all right.

Richard Maurer

So Cole the mod doesn’t have to say it, I will - it is the directors cut, Cassie confirmed it below.

Richard Maurer

She already confirmed the directors cut below.

Philip Alan

Three Stooges Meets Dracula?

Chris Thom

Three Kings and The Thin Red Line are very unique for war movies. Kingdom of Heaven I haven't seen yet. Anyone know if it's based on real events?

Chris Thom

Do you think it would be worth it to watch the animated LOTR on the channel?

Jacob King

The Thin Red Line and Three Kings would be high on my personal list of decent war movies. I’d add Welcome to Sarajevo and Buffalo Soldiers.

Clay F

Three Kings was my top choice of the 5 you submitted.

Clay F

I voted: --The Thin Red Line --Kingdom of Heaven --Three Kings. Glad to see those are currently the top 3 in the poll results.

Clay F

Has anyone mentioned that Kingdom of Heaven should be director's cut? Cassie did. She said "it will be."

Brent Petty

I saw that after I posted. No big deal.

SEAN ƴü KAY

Kingdom of heaven needs to be director's cut tho

SEAN ƴü KAY

My bad...Just realized we r all typing the same thing about kingdom of heaven needed to be director cut...

RP

The Thin Red Line is exquisite, but I don’t think it will ever win a poll. I’m not even sure Cassie would really love it the way many do. But I now she would respect the craft and see the beauty of it. I’d love to see that reaction. Maybe someday. 🍻

Chad Laurence

Tears of the Sun isn't doing well? Wtf people lol.

Chris B.

Cassie: if Kingdom of Heaven wins, you 100% must do the directors cut of it. The difference is so stark between theatrical and directors cut that I daresay directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven is the best movie Ridley of Scott has ever directed, while the theatrical cut is the very worst. Yes, the difference is that stark!

Clay F

A respectable 3rd place, currently beating The Thin Red Line by 9 votes.

Clay F

Exquisite a great adjective for The Thin Red Line (4th place). To me, a shame being beat by 9 votes by 3rd place Tears of the Sun (which I like ok but a dumbed-down stylish action movie). In the Live, she said she thought The Deer Hunter would win but was pulling for The Thin Red Line. I think we will get it eventually one day.

Clay F

"Three Kings" (awesome movie) in 2nd place but last year couldn't beat the Stallone "Cliffhanger". I was devastated.

Mark Kavanagh

Kingdom of Heaven - Directors cut (it makes a big difference)

YodatheHobbit

Oh polls! I hate it when you guys fight, lol. Not a fan of them against each other, cause the odds are that what you want most wont win, so the disappointment is doubled if you're not interested in 80% of the choices. Then if you think you've won and either one or both of what you wanted does win, it has to win again to mean something.

YodatheHobbit

Something about George Clooney in anything other than a period piece pulls me to sleep, and in those period piece films, I really like him. Although, I did really like him in Gravity too.

UCOOLJULES

Man, I'd so love to watch Cassie & Karly watch Zulu. I think the culture shock would almost break them

Ria Grix

Zuluuuu, Zuluuuuu!!

OddThomas

Three Kings is great, it's a shame it's kind of been forgotten

Rick Rodriguez

Everything except Kingdom of Heaven. Fantastic looking but has achieved overrated status.

Clarence Newman

Not really bothered with this one, but I know a lot of people like Kingdom of Heaven. Might be time I watched it. All my skin is in the other poll.

Clay F

2nd place out of 9 choices.

My_Cousin_Mose

I always thought kingdom of heaven sucked and Orlando Bloom was horribly miscast. But I've never seen the director's cut and people make it seem like it makes a huge difference. I hope they are right.

Richard Maurer

Looks like Kingdom of Heaven has got this sown up. Now is there any consensus on watching the director’s cut or not? ;-)

Clay F

Kingdom of Heaven (awesome movie) sheer domination in the poll. Glad to see Three Kings (awesome movie) is a strong 2nd -- hopefully that a good sign for future polls -- I would love a reaction to Three Kings (one of my top requests).

Obie Brown

The directors cut is much better in many ways, so I hope that is the case

bgb1975 (Brian)

I only saw the theatrical, and was not impressed. I'll have to give the director's cut a shot.

Richard Maurer

Sorry. I could help myself. But it’s interesting to see that some people don’t read through the comments section. Cassie confirmed, pretty early on, that she was watching the director’s cut (as. She should). Yet people kept posting that needed to watch the director’s cut, even after multiple confirmations by mid Cole. So I was just having a bit of fun with that. People, if you think of something vital about the movie, always check the beginning of the comments, because chances are someone else already thought of it.

Richard Maurer

Cole - I wrote mod, but my phone thinks you’re mid. Sorry!

John A

Man, it's nothing special but I really like Tears of the Sun. Haven't seen that in forever, probably won't win any polls, but I'm glad you reminded me of it

Richard Maurer

You must be feeling pretty raw then.

Dean Holt

Not really surprised me the two most overrated movies are winning both polls. This is why I really dislike like them as it’s very rare the best films win.

Jason Weiner

Unfortunately these are skippable

Above Average Dave

THREE KINGS is a direct...uh...reinterpretation of KELLY'S HEROES and nowhere near as fun.

PB

Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut is amazing. The theatrical release is only fine. I remember walking out of seeing it in the theater and turning to my friend and saying “That felt incomplete.”

K10

Must admit a bit sad to see more modern fiction picks on top over the historical events movies based on real events/books/interviews etc..

Clay F

Looks like "KINGDOM OF HEAVEN" (the director's cut is brilliant) and "THREE KINGS" [RT 94%], both awesome movies, will advance to final poll. I am happy. I would also be happy with 3rd place "THE THIN RED LINE" -- an exquisite masterpiece (surreal) by Terrence Malick with a stacked cast -- "a daringly philosophical World War II film." Nominated for 7 Oscars including Best Picture.

Clay F

I voted only these 3: Kingdom of Heaven, Three Kings, Thin Red Line -- which are the current top 3 in the poll. THREE KINGS (1999). RT 94%. Roger Ebert 4/4. Excellent director. George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube. “Three Kings successfully blends elements of action, drama, and comedy into a thoughtful, exciting movie on the Gulf War.” Lost to Cliffhanger (1993) (Stallone) in a poll a last year. I was devastated.

Richard Maurer

I remember coming out of the theater with my father, trying to convince myself I enjoyed the Bakshi version. I kind of succeeded, for a little while, anyway.

Timothy Williams

(edited) Oh come on! A Bridge Too Far and The Longest Day aren't at the top?! Pesky kids (says this 66yo). Kingdom of Heaven is only ok and has a very low score on the tomato meter and doesn't hold a candle to the aforementioned two and a few others on the poll.

Catherine LW

I have a criticism of A Bridge Too Far. It’s a huge, stacked cast, and I swear they must have had contracts with every actor that stipulated that they equally distributed all the lines among them.

Mahad Ali

The Longest Day is such a remarkable movie. And eminently rewatchable.

Astraeos

I really hope Cassie gets the message to watch the Extended Cut for Kingdom of Heaven. The theatrical release is pretty much garbage and nonsensical. Super sad to see A Bridge Too Far so low. Absolutely fantastic movie with a truly insane cast list. Maybe one day.

Astraeos

I literally saw it on this poll, saw it was on Tubi and went and watched it lol. For a teen who was definitely big into the Ghost Recon video games, this movie was amazing. Also I think sort of a message against the entire world for not acting in Rwanda, and how that was the wrong choice, regardless of the "political" considerations.

Astraeos

I gotta agree with the dislike of polls. It's only ever just a popularity and recency contest, and they stink lol. Though I will say this channel absolutely does the most in terms of providing for ways to get movies watched other than just polls, so thats why this channel is the best! I'd always personally vote for more random choice picks of movies from the community, and picks that Cassie herself wants to watch, or other "executive decision" type picks other than just relying on popularity contests.

Astraeos

100% agreed. Kelly's Heroes is an amazing, hilarious sort of movie. I watched Three Kings exactly once, and I rewatch movies all the time lol.

Above Average Dave

Agreed, it’s a substandard rip-off of a much more engaging film.

Mike Lemon

Vanilla ice cream problem - it rarely loses.

Mike Lemon

I voted for it, it never stood a chance.

Mike Lemon

But that isn't a promise or anything to rely on. She could watch the theatrical cut or just a trailer and call it good.

Javier Hernandez

I second many on this list and suggest the extended version of the Kingdom Of Heaven. If you watch the theatrical release you lose some of the Queen's (Eva Green) motivations in the third act. Also, Ridley Scott (director), and Orlando Bloom (Legolas) have not disappointed you yet.

Ike

Both polls had two of my favorites. It is my greatest wish to get a TORA! TORA! TORA! and MIDWAY reaction back-to-back.

Clay F

Mike, agree, definiely not a promise -- she didn't use the word "promise." if she already reacting to the movie, the version is easy. Your reply makes no sense.

James M

I'll one up you on the old-man gripe: K of H isn't even a particularly good movie. What's wrong here is people who haven't watched most of these are voting for the 2 or 3 they have watched.

James M

In the directors cut the film lasts longer and Bloom is still miscast. No it's not a completely different film.

James M

How are you citing RT ratings for Three Kings and not acknowledging that Kingdom of Heaven has a terrible rating? 39%. It's a certifiably bad film by professional film watchers :D And No, the directors cut did not turn it from a bad film into a great one.

James M

"Zulu" and "A Bridge Too Far" are the standouts in this list.

James M

You realize Bridge on the River Kwai is 1957 and A Bridge Too Far is 1977? So these are three films in three different decades. Sometimes I think the fans of PiB see the movie world as divided into 4 categories: everything after 2000, 90s, 80s, everything before 1980.

James M

These are all great films. I'd bet very few of the people voting K of H have seen any of those three.

James M

Assuming you are forced to watch KofH, the shorter the version, the better IMO. Still since I won't be watching it again it matters less to me. It's a bad film and people who haven't watched most of these movies on this list will vote for it anyway.

Clay F

So you do agree the 39% is for the theatrical version, which makes that rating irrelevant. Why would I cite a rating for the theatrical version when she is reacting to the director's cut? That makes no sense.

Clay F

Kingdom of Heaven is popular among a plurality of voting patrons, as evidenced by its sheer domination in the poll. You can sit up there on your hill looking down on the ignorant masses telling them they are wrong to think the director’s cut is a good or great film if you want. “The Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut is widely considered a massive improvement over the 39%-rated theatrical version, often cited as one of the best director's cuts in film history.... Rotten Tomatoes officially lists the 39% for the [nonsensical] theatrical release. The 190-minute Director's Cut (vs 144-min theatrical) is praised for restoring essential character development and plot depth. Critics and audiences largely agree the Director's Cut fixes the original's pacing and narrative issues, transforming it into a ‘richer’ and ‘more substantive’ epic…. the Director's Cut is frequently described as a ‘masterpiece’ in fan and critics' circles.”

Clay F

"[T]he Director's Cut ... is unquestionably one of the best films Scott has ever made... While some Director's Cuts are nifty 'what ifs' with some deleted footage put back in, the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven changes the entire complexion and meaning of the movie. It's transformative in a way that extended versions rarely are. To compare Scott to Scott, watching the extended edition of Gladiator is all well and good, but it's still pretty much the same movie but with a bit more stuff thrown in. The Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven fundamentally changes our understanding of the main characters and the larger themes with which the film is grappling. The movie's ambition exceeds Gladiator's by far, but receives less popular attention due to its poor theatrical release."

Brent Petty

I said 60's AND 70's, so not sure what your point is about A Bridge Too Far. As for Kwai, you're clutching your pearls because I said 60's and it was released in 1957? Go outside and touch some grass, man.

Junior

I can’t stand it when people regurgitate ratings and quote reviews from critics out here. I couldn’t care less about what Roger Ebert or Gene Siskel said. Moreover, some of my favorite movies are ones with low RT critic ratings and high audience ratings. The wider the gap, typically, the more enjoyable the movie. Besides, there’s no added value in it. Those interested in ratings and reviews can find them with two clicks on a phone. Posting that crap is almost as bad as when people write too much about the movies Cassie is supposed to watch. Peace.

Richard Maurer

Javier - Cassie confirmed she’s watching the director’s cut, near the beginning of this comment section.

Richard Maurer

What makes it a “bad film”, I wonder? Is it the subject matter, maybe?

Richard Maurer

Halloween, while released in 1978, began the 1980’s slasher boom. So, it’s a honorary 80’s film.

Sarah Frost

So, what are you expecting to happen? People voting for movies they haven't seen? Or people who haven't seen all the options giving up their chance to vote?

Keith Brown

Well all my picks are the bottom 4 least voted on. The funny thing about when "The Longest Day" came out in 1962 the BIG selling point was its' International BIG name movie stars that were in it, a who's who's of actors of the day. Now a days about the only actor the under 45 year old aged viewers "may" notice is a young Sean Connery just before he started 007.

Joe J

Prepare too be disappointed over and over again, lol. It always comes down to some variation of "my movie is better than your movie" or please Cassie watch this instead of that.

Joe J

After watching Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers, Cassie would probably find TLD dated and boring.

Clay F

The value of posting critics and audience ratings is many patrons are interested in that review data. If you are not interested, ignore it.

Clay F

Sarah -- good points. You read my mind. Tim -- the low tomato meter score is for the nonsensical theatrical version. She is reacting to the director's cut that essentially reinvents the movie (as the director intended) -- widely considered a massive improvement over the theatrical version. Often cited as one of the best director's cut in film history. The director's cut is frequently described as a "masterpiece" among fans and critics.

Clay F

KINGDOM OF HEAVEN -- DIRECTOR'S CUT Compared to the theatrical version, the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven essentially reinvents the movie (as intended by the director) -- widely considered a massive improvement over the theatrical version. Often cited as one of the best director's cuts in film history. Frequently described as a "masterpiece" among fans and critics. The Director's Cut is one of the best films Scott has ever made. The Director's Cut changes the entire complexion and meaning of the movie. It's transformative in a way that extended versions rarely are. The Director's Cut beneficially fundamentally changes our understanding of the main characters and the larger themes with which the film is grappling.

Clay F

Last place. Maybe next time. I remember liking it as a kid.

Clay F

Current Top 3 --Kingdom of Heaven --Three Kings --The Thin Red Line Current Bottom 4 --The Longest Day --A Bridge Too Far --Midway (1976) (next-to-last) --Zulu (last place)

Richard Maurer

All’s fair in trying to get your movie watched, short of threats of violence.

More random polls is the only answer! Give patrons the chance to vote, they’ll only mess it up. I’m joking……sorta.

Just because a film’s new doesn’t mean it’s better than old films.

While it will be nice to have an excuse to watch my 4K of Kingdom of Heaven, and it might be awkward to take three films of a four film poll, I do think KoH is more of a drama. For example, even with all the big battle scenes I guess it would feel strange to call Gladiator or Lord of the Rings "war films." Would love it if KoH could win overall, and then Three Kings and The Deer Hunter could be the mor traditional "war" winners. (And the ideal order to give Cassie emotional recovery time would probably be Deer Hunter, then KoH, and ending with 3K). (Frankly, I would not mind just jumping to this outcome rather than polling the top 4 again. And maybe as condolences, you could put DD on the upcoming March Madness bracket, if you still do one.)

The film Cassie would most appreciate is A Bridge Too Far.

Several films in these polls could be argued against as not really being “war films”. But since she’s seen most of the modern big ones, I’m not surprised they’ve expanded the definition of the genre. Thinking about the war film genre, it’s really a rather small genre to get as much attention as it has from Cassie. The truly good “pure” war films are starting to thin out, especially the modern ones. And the older ones won’t win polls unless they’re separated from newer films (same as any other genre).

I would say Three KIngs or Tears of the Sun.

Uh, John Wayne?

Just want to be yet another person to tell you KoH needs to be the directors cut, I felt left out

Perhaps but those older films that have stood the test of time are generally better. Writing in a lot of new movies is awful and predictable.

Richard Maurer

A lot old films were awful and predictable too, but you just don’t see them anymore. On cable tv, about a decade ago, my father and brother used to watch this Western channel that had nothing but old, public domain westerns - I tried watching with them, but they were without a doubt among the most boring, generic, simplistic movies I ever had the misfortune to see. They basically had two plots, good guy comes town, takes on bad guys, or bad guys come to town, get taken on by good guy, without any extra story - imagine a whole tv channel of this. The point is that there are many, many bad movies in the past, they just all get forgotten. As will the bad films of today, eventually.

Anyway, it depends on the genre. Horror films are better now than they have been in a long time. But big movie studios desperate due streaming gradually ending the old way of presenting movies, are less likely to gamble than ever before on anything that they don’t think is a sure win for them, which is why we’re seeing mostly remakes sequels and generic kid’s movies these days.

Oh Yes but I'll bet even a lot won't ID him. "A Bridge Too Far" Robert Redford is not ID'd by the younger Gens. I've watch reviews on "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" or "The Sting" and they wonder out loud which is Redford and which one is Newman ?

Nathan Hill

I definitely say if you’re watching Kingdom of Heaven, it should be the directors cut. It’s a much better version of the film
