I left this one feeling very weird and sorry i’m stream of consciousness-ing that outro! Robert Duvall was such a treasure in this, but it succeeded in making me feel very uneasy.

Rest in Peace Robert Duvall. We need a michael Douglas poll one day to. He was terrific in this.

Adam Doyle

To be honest, it was made to make feel uneasy. The craziness of the world, feeling both a understanding and abhorrentaion for the main character.

Zander

Oh wow Cass, had no idea you were watching this. It's a horrible great film isn't it? I imagine this is a top movie for many men out there, even if they won't admit it. Sad but fair commentary on America...

Shawn Kildal

Cassie also reacted to Duvall in Deep Impact and Days of Thunder.

Edgar Gonzalez

Oh yeah....Michael Douglas isn't going to have a good day today 😁

Edgar Gonzalez

I what some wham fries at whammy burger 🍔 😋

The freeway is jammed And it's backed up for miles The car is an oven and baking is wild Nothing is ever the way it should be What we deserve we just don't get you see A briefcase, a lunch and a man on the edge Each step gets closer to losing his head Is someone in heaven, are they looking down Nothing is fair just you look around Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down He's sick of waiting of lying like this There's a hole in the sky for the angels to kiss Branded a leper because you don't fit In the land of the free You just live by your wits Once he built missiles a nation's defense Now he can't even give birthday presents Across the city he leaves in his wake A glimpse of the future, a canibal state Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down The freeway is jammed And it's backed up for miles The car is an oven and baking is wild Nothing is ever the way it should be What we deserve we just don't get you see A briefcase, a lunch and a man on the edge Each step gets closer to losing his head Is someone in heaven, are they looking down Nothing is fair just you look around Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Falling down Man on the Edge by Iron Maiden. This is based on this movie. Edit: this song based on the movie is what I meant.

Night King01

I think you got it right. The movie definitely shows the fine line between good and bad. In the first part of the film were on his side because who never have thought about the mundane annoyances everyone has to deal with like construction jobs that never seem to go away. but the curtain slowly gets revealed on Michael Douglas character showing he is not a well guy at all. We would never have acted on these impulses. He did because he wasn’t stable. He was trying to conform to a system that he believes betrayed him and he just snapped and decided to take his frustrations out on the world.

Popcorn In Bed

wait the movie is based on the song or the song is based on the movie?

Night King01

I think the reason he decides to not retire because Pendergast realizes he could still be able to do his part to try to fix a system that failed someone like Michael Douglas while also recognizing that this did not excuse Williams actions.

Chris Thom

By director Joel Schumacher. Same director that did The Lost Boys, A Time to Kill, Batman Forever, Phantom of the Opera, Flatliners, The Client, 8mm, Phone Booth, and St. Elmo's Fire (Demi Moore's first movie).

Dave

This movie is a daily reminder to never go for fast food anywhere near 10 am. The rage is real. Love this film.

Just Plain Bob

Smart filmmaking on display here. Michael Douglas plays a character that is, on the surface in the beginning, quite sympathetic. As he said, he did the “right things.” He got an education, got married, had a kid and worked hard (presumably). He expected his share of the American dream. Instead, he’s lost his family and his job and lives with his elderly mother. But he is also irrational and abusive. It’s hard to believe that his controlling behavior toward his wife and child didn’t also spill over into the workplace and that this, despite his protestations, might not be the real reason he lost his job. At the same time, we can see ourselves in the “bad day” he’s going thru. Stuck in traffic, blazing heat, rude people, etc. All of this dialed up to 11. And the circumstances pile up for a man that’s already on the brink, until his reaction (once we realize his underlying behavioral issues) seems like a foregone conclusion. And, by the end, a man who was sympathetic at the start is revealed to be the family destroyer that he really is. And on the other side, we have Robert Duvall, torn between his love for his job (really, his calling) and his wife, a woman who appears to be the mirror image in many respects of Michael Douglas. In fact, both remind me of something a friend of mine once said about people diagnosed as “borderline personality disorder.” He was a psychiatric nurse at a local hospital and possessed of a real ability to cut thru the (sometimes) BS of psychiatric platitudes and posturing. Someone had been in the news, diagnosed as having “borderline personality disorder” (this was fifteen years ago so I don’t remember the exact circumstances). I asked him what the term meant, in laymen’s terms. His response: it means they’re an a**hole.

MacGuffinStuff

This movie is about what LA traffic does to you, makes you crazy. I'm joking but the story was literally born in LA traffic. I live in Ontario California which is beautiful, with no traffic at 3am I'm 45 minutes east of LA, rush hour that's easily 3 hours if there's even one accident (there will be 4 or 5) It's a little overly stereotypical with the portrayal of East Los cholos, those guys were from Chino 🤣 Sorry, have to make fun, but seriously this movie is a ballsy representation of the violence that can be both outside and inside a man. It's deep, and tragic.

Shawn Kildal

This movie was very much a "hot" topic around the country when it was released. It was filmed in LA during the Rodney King trial and the verdict resulted in massive riots. The filming of the movie had to be shut down for a while.

Clarence Newman

Yeah. Most of us have that in us, I think. Even Cassie, who gives little glimpses of it whenever Ramsay Bolton is on screen. Like it or not, we've all imagined doing terrible things to an a*hole or two. We just don't do it because our shut off mechanism still works. Personally, I think this film is improved by Michael Douglas being the star. I always thought there was something a little bit unhinged about him, especially around the eyes.

Shawn Kildal

Once FATAL ATTRACTION (1987) hit the theaters and then WALL STREET followed 3 months later, I think it's fair to say Michael Douglas was considered to be at the very top of A-list actors in Hollywood. I saw Fatal Attraction at the theaters, and I don't know if any movie captivated and rattled me as much as that one did. It was talked about on every talk show and made its way to pop culture history. I remember it being on the cover of TIME magazine. I don't know if it would be one of Cassie's favorites (however it was on her mom's list of favorite movies btw) but I am going to speculate that no other movie will elicit more of a highly entertaining reaction from Cassie.

Clarence Newman

If you need a cleanser for the ick you feel for Michael Douglas right now, War of the Roses with Kathleen Turner is a lot of fun.

Shawn Kildal

The Foo Fighters had a music video to one of their songs based on this movie.

Shawn Kildal

The cute order taker at Whammy Burger was played by Michelle Pfeiffer's sister, Dedee.

K, Zachary

I think that's how your supposed to feel. The first time I watched it I felt very uncomfortable. It was my friends and Dad that got me to see the humor in it though. I think you have to see watch this one from a different perspective. At least that's what I did. My gf Eva on the other hand. Feels exactly like you do She hails Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall performances Overall she said "that she didn't like the way this movie made her feel".

Wesley White

It is so ironic that you'd post this as I too had a rough day at work today to the point where I nearly lost my mind lol! (Thank goodness for my MORTAL KOMBAT music lol) Today at work, not only did they bombared me with so much dishware to clean and we were short handed by one dishwasher, but we had to move as much stuff as we could out of the kitchen today because a floor cleaning specialist was coming in to do a deep clean of the floor, yet I managed to finish everything on time tonight [phew] lol! Michael Douglas' character is totally relatable, especially for me, oh don't worry, I'd never stoop to the level of insanity that he did in this movie, but I know what it feels like when you're having such a bad day, where one thing after another happens and you get driven nearly over the edge! I won't deny, I myself have a bit of a short fuse, something that I unfortunately inherited from my father, but I can't blame him because all his life he has been bullied, picked on, and even beaten up on by other kids at school and even his own siblings! When he grew up, he was almost constantly getting in fights, at least ones that his brother would start and my father would finish them lol! Don't worry, despite my short fuse, it takes a whole lot for me to snap like my father lol, I've never been in a fight in my life and I don't plan to, unless someone messes with someone very dear to me! Besides that, in truth, I've never seen this movie all the way through, the furthest I've got was the part where he's at the fast food joint and looses it lol, beyond that I've never seen the rest! So in some ways, his character is almost relatable! Welcome to LA Cassie, the city of lunacy lol, thank gosh I don't live there lol! RIP Robert Duvall for sure, he was one of my favorites! He lived a long and good successful life! I never knew "To Kill a Mockingbird" was his debut into movie acting, that blew my mind when I first saw that movie! I honestly cannot say what my all time favorite movie of his was, but my top 5 favorite films of his are: "True Grit (69)", "Apocalypse Now", "Geronimo: An American Legend", "John Q", and "Secondhand Lions"! One honorable mention goes to his portayle of Robert E. Lee in "Gods & Generals"! His legacy will live on in his films, cheers to Sir Robert Duvall 🥂 Good reaction Cassie, I'm still working on the fan letter that I'll be sending you soon, just some things I feel like I want to share with you about me and my personality in movies, plus some suggestions for voting polls! Once again I'm sorry I couldn't participate during the POPPIES Awards yesterday, something happened to me over the weekend that just put me in a huge state of depression that not even you could've snapped me out of it Cass, IDK what it was that caused it, I just felt emotionless! I was as stiff as a mannequin in a display window lol! Don't worry now, I'm feeling a bit better now! Though I will openly admit that I did catch a glimpse at one point of you and Carly hosting the POPPIES, may I just say, you two looked very lovely in the dresses you two picked out😇🙏 Anyway, hope you're doing well and the family is doing well too! Love and support always, you and Carly are the best, Happy (early) St. Patty's Day (watch/react to "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" lol) 🍀 and God bless y'all and the family 🥰😇🙏😁😉✌🌹

Chris Thom

Hope to see that and Basic Instinct on the channel eventually.

René Ferland

"I mean, that is the most pathetic-looking burger I've ever seen." You made my day Cassie! :-)

Paul Ark

The music video for the Foo Fighters’ song “Walk” is a parody of Falling Down

Steve Smith

Where's GOT 6x7 and 6x8 ????????????????????????????

Milton Reduxed

Everything Michael Douglas did between 1987-2000 is reaction-worthy

Milton Reduxed

@Chris, How is Cassie supposed to react to that 5 minute sequence in the middle though!? She could just go and make a cup of tea or something and let it play

Yaisu

On some level I always found this movie a bit relatable. Yes the man had anger issues. But I can understand getting upset about price gouging, false advertising (the burger), entitlement of others. At the same time I do feel bad for his wife and daughter for having to deal with those anger issues.

bgb1975 (Brian)

The start of this movie is quite like the start to Office Space. Peter Gibbons almost turned into BIll! Good thing that he went to that shrink. Can't wait to watch this one with Cassie tonight!

YodatheHobbit

Sorry for it making you feel uneasy, but you actually seemed to enjoy the plot more than I thought you would. Movies like this gave us a bit of teenage depression as a kid in the 90s. I could totally relate to parts(onlysmallparts!) of this to my own dad after my mother divorced him, but I did so with Liar Liar and Mrs. Doubtfire too, so.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. My dad never went nuts at all, but he did have a short temper sometimes when he drank. Heck, any movie with divorce in it made me cry at the end when I was 11. I see D-Fens as a guy with mental health issues who became the villain and if he'd gotten help sooner he'd be okay. Unfortunately in the 90s seeking mental help wasn't talked about if a person's problems weren't publicly obvious. Back when I was a teenager and first saw this I used to feel like I could relate to most of what he was complaining about, but not his responses to it. Nowadays I find his complaints less relatable and the anger not worth the headache and heartaches it would bring me. Although I don't get angry about it, in truth I can't stand rude people who greet you as if they're your friend when they're actually just trying to sell you something. By this I don't mean I dislike friendliness. I love friendly salespeople! Just not false pretenses. Kind of a strange comparison, but it's almost sort of like the nazi guy trying to relate to him by showing off his "racist vigilantly stuff", assuming he knows what he likes. Talking like he's already his friend. A person you don't know trying to talk like they already know you. Rather than get angry, I just point out the illogicality of it and move on from that. "No, we're not bros. No, I'm not your/a boss. We're equals, thank you, have a a good one." I am the customer and they are the seller. If I'm interested in purchasing something from them I'll approach, if not, I'd rather not be spoken to like they want to know me outside of this exchange. I'd love a new friend, but that's not what they want, otherwise they'd be talking to me when not on the job. They want me to purchase. It is true that Michael Douglas is so good that you almost want to root for him, not in how he's treating people, but in relaxing and coming to his senses. As sad as it is, I do like that his suicide by cop wasn't an entirely selfish and illogical act, knowing his daughter would get the life insurance money. Robert Duval was even better in this than I remembered and he reminds me of my stepdad.

Chris Thom

Gordon Day Lewis was on bass, I believe.

Chris Thom

I don't know, but the editor cut around it pretty expertly for American Psycho.

Milton Reduxed

But I mean on the full reaction—How uncomfortable must it be to watch a 5 minute sex scene while a camera records your reaction; Going out and getting a drink is a genuine suggestion to work around it. When I re-watch Basic Instinct I skip that part as it's boring and feels like it goes on forever

Clay F

This afternoon or tonight, or tomorrow.

Clay F

Enjoyed your reaction and this rewatch. I hadn't seen the movie in 25 years or so. Sad movie. Will miss Robert Duvall. I liked your comments on Duvall in the intro.

John A

I didn't see this until high school in the early 2000's after we read The Metamorphosis, but I went straight to the store after school and bought it immediately. Guy at the store talked me into getting Michael Douglas's The Game with it and I was instantly obsessed with both

Chris Thom

I haven't quite seen this yet. I remember Douglas' outfit and image well from passing it on cable many times. As a kid, The Client and Batman Forever were definitely my favorites. And 8mm was an uber dark trainwreck that I couldn't look away from. Not that it was bad, but the subject matter was just pitch black. My first introduction to Joaquin Phoenix.

Chris Thom

The Game was the first Michael Douglas movie I ever saw. Or actually it was The American President. Then Wall Street after.

Shehab Dawoud

We need more Michael Douglas. He, more than Tom Hanks, is the typical American man on the big screen. Fatal Attraction (1987) Wall Street (1987) The War of The Roses (1989) Basic Instinct (1992) Disclosure (1994) All bangers.

DAVID COSTELLO

A another great Robert Duvall work is the miniseries "Lonesome Dove" with Tommy Lee Jones and Diane Lane. But honestly he's good in everything.

Milton Reduxed

Dedee Pfeiffer can spit on my Whammy Burger any time, hawk tuah!

Milton Reduxed

Cassie is our favourite reactoress...reactress? Think about it. I know, man, I know alllll about it...

Clay F

Lonesome Dove miniseries lost to Falling Down in the YT Live poll.

Clay F

Traffic (2000) is the ultimate

Clay F

Your next Michael Douglas movie should be "Traffic" (2000). --He is awesome and the lead. --compelling story. “Traffic” (2000). Won 4 Oscars. Nominated for Best Picture Oscar.

Shad Kanyak

Rush hour traffic at times makes me empathize with this guy.

Shehab Dawoud

This movie is also what would’ve happened if Frank Grimes didn’t electrocute himself. IYKYK

Clarence Newman

I'm sorry but if Dedee Pfeiffer spat in my burger, I'd dump her for her sister. I've heard she's cute.

Derrick Guess

Not going to lie I was looking forward to this week's episode of game of thrones.....

Richard Maurer

Steve - Well, it’s not here, I can tell you that much.

Stick Figure Studios

With all due respect to LOST BOYS, I think this might be Joel Schumacher's best movie. A very dark, very intense, but also surprisingly funny thriller/sociopolitical satire. Michael Douglas is fantastic (and apparently this is his favorite character he's ever played). Duvall (RIP) is reliably solid. I revisit this every few years and I'm still impressed by it.

Stick Figure Studios

Very astute of you as I believe that is the point. The man is disturbed and his reaction is extreme, but the issues he's dealing with are very relatable.

Stick Figure Studios

I think 8MM is very underrated. THE CLIENT is ok. A TIME TO KILL is a well-made film that I have some moral problems with. I like BATMAN FOREVER and LOST BOYS (heck, I even enjoy PHANTOM OF THE OPERA), but I think FALLING DOWN might be my favorite Joel Schumacher film.

Clarence Newman

Undoubtedly true. But you've gotta love a man who isn't afraid to urinate on his fish supper while it's cooking.

Mike Lemon

It was second place on the Mother's Day poll. I really expected a watch in the last couple of years.

Chris Thom

A Perfect Murder was a solid thriller. Very entertaining Hitchcock remake.

Mike Lemon

And Gone in 60 Seconds (the infamous moth reaction).

Chris Thom

I didn't know it was so beloved until reaction channels.

Joe J

You still can.

Joe J

TBR Schmitt just did TWotR a few weeks back. It won his monthly PAF.

Tyler Hale

It sounds like the movie accomplished something

Joe J

Keep in mind, Cassie's patreon drop schedule is always somewhat fluid from week to week. Always been that way.

Joe J

FD did well at the box-office, but not shown much (if at all) on basic cable anymore. FD joins the long line of films that basically are becoming forgotten.

John A

THE GAME!

Milton Reduxed

Save War of the Roses for Christmas time

Flounder

Speaking of forgotten movies: SEX, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPE. It is a nearly perfect movie that ABSOLUTELY NO ONE has reacted to. Its success paved the way for the 90s Indie movie Renaissance.

Shreddy

As a man, I had a lot more empathy for D-Fens than Cassie had. He wasn't originally a bad guy, he genuinely loved his daughter, and the daughter clearly loved him. D-Fens spiralled gradually, after losing his job, he couldn't pay child support. Too proud to admit it to his mother or to anyone. His ex-wife prevented him from seeing his daughter, and the judge gave him a restraining order "to make an example out of him" (why it's always a dude who is made an example of) despite never being violent towards his family. People around the city were pricks to him. Men are expected to always handle everything alone, society doesn't support men, it only supports women. Men have to deal with their own problems alone. He just couldn't handle it. Was he a bad guy? Yes, after killing a person. The person he killed (actually just 1, the nazi store owner) was a horrible person though. D-Fens was nice to everyone who was nice to him. (The groundskeeper family, the street vendor he bought the birthday present from, his daughter). He tried to talk sensibly to the street thugs on the hill. But as I said, he spiralled. The point of the film is to feel empathy for others (and not be like the pricks around the city) because anyone could be sent off the edge. Including you and me. Like they say "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about."

OddThomas

Cassie: "I need to watch more comedies" Patrons: (awkward meme)

Catherine LW

That should have been a Duvall tribute. His best and favorite role in his career. Augustus McCrae is one of the greatest characters in literature and film.

bgb1975 (Brian)

I agree - I think that this is Schumacher's best film.

Chris Thom

That's on the channel. Two years ago, maybe?

Chris Thom

Lol the moth attack was definitely a main takeaway from that one. There's a stuffed animal moth in the filming room somewhere because of it.

Chris Thom

Is she still an actress?

Lana Gorgeous

I don't know if it will win any polls, but I implore you, for yourself, if not on the channel, you must watch The Apostle. It came out in 1997, and Robert Duvall is the absolute star, in almost every scene, and he does a magnificent job. Also in the movie is Billy Bob Thornton and the great, beautiful Farah Fawcett. It is just a fantastic movie. Robert Duvall was nominated for best actor at the Academy Awards, and this is a small synopsis of what the critics thought of the movie: Critic Roger Ebert gave it to four out of four stars and called the film "a lesson in how movies can escape from convention and penetrate the hearts of rare characters. " Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly gave the film an A− grade and described it as "a seamless match of strong artistic vision and physical performance", with "the Oscar-winning star of Tender Mercies drawing on more than three decades of experience personifying the hard contours and bruised souls of American men to create a fearless and fascinating piece of work. I hope you do watch it ay sometimes you won’t regret it and it is Robert Duvall at his very best.

Clay F

Cassie said she was disappointed that Lonesome Dove didn't win. I don't have all the percentages. YT Live 2 prelim polls + final poll: 1st poll -Secondhand Lions 41% -Network 29% -The Judge 17% -The Apostle 13% 2nd poll (don’t have percentages) -Falling Down (won) -Phenomenon -THX1138 -Lonesome Dove miniseries (2nd place)* Final poll -Secondhand Lions -Falling Down (won)

Clay F

I feel for men and women. I emphathized with D-Fens but also see bad situations for women. Women are beset with unfortunate circumstances that seem difficult or impossible to overcome. Often, women have to deal with their own problems alone. Women are "made an example of" in the justice system. Society supports both men and women, but imperfections and not 100%. D-Fens could have sought help, at least counseling, but apparently didn't. Sometimes, men (e.g., D-Fens) and women need to look inward at their own contribution to their predicament.

KTVindicare

The exact underpass he's in (the 110 south to the 101) is particularly terrible any LA native immediately sympathizes with this dude's crashout in the middle of Rush Hour. He did what most of us think about or dream about doing when stuck in traffic especially on the 101 or 110.

Clay F

The Apostle (1997). Duvall wrote, directed, stars as lead. As you noted, nom Best Actor Oscar. Finished last in the YT Live first prelimary poll. -Secondhand Lions 41% -Network 29% -The Judge 17% -The Apostle 13%

Catherine LW

Well she can always pick as PPOM! 🙂

Clay F

Falling Down won the YT Live Duvall poll but didn't fare well in a Patreon PR 1-50 poll (2,833 votes cast) 2 months earlier in December 2025. Falling Down finished 7thof the 9 choices. Beat by Sister Act and Short Circuit. PR 1-50 Poll – December 2025 1. City Slickers – 443 votes 2. Caddyshack – 384 3. Watchmen (2009) – 372 4. Jack Reacher (2006) – 307 4. Clarence Newman

Cassie's week tends to go from Tuesday to Tuesday, Derrick, and The Poppies this year have caused a wee delay. I would expect GoT to drop tonight or tomorrow.

Chris B.

@Shreddy Agreed. I know it's become somewhat of a scandalous take, but especially in modern times what happens with D-Fens is a similar dread faced by a lot of men. It's not that his actions are excusable, because they aren't really at the end of the day, but that he felt abandoned by all of his world and found no stable support to help pull him from the brink. Unless our culture (specifically western culture) starts to pull back on some of the toxic misandry and mass indifference towards boys that permeates throughout, I fear that a character like D-Fens not only becomes more prescient as time progresses, but actually becomes tame in comparison to what will happen when all our boys and young men, who have been growing up under continuous demonization for things outside their control & taught to feel alone and unsupported, decide to really lash back at the world they believe abandoned them.

Shreddy

@Clay F Women have their own, different set of problems. Like experiencing way more domestic violence, not saying that. But at least in my country (Finland) 75% of people who commit suicide are male. Only 25% women. Maybe it's because men (like D-Fens) find seeking help harder, not just professional help, but even talking to their buddies. Women have better support networks. It's in the culture too, for men people say "Suck it up" so men don't seek help. Men have more pressure being the provider, and if they lose their job, they can lose everything

Milton Reduxed

@Shreddy, factually lesbian relationships have the highest levels of domestic violence, gay male relationships have the lowest, and straight relationships are somewhere in the middle Make of that what you will

Gryff

... Love you too? But like, as an entertainer. Your grandpa sounds like a nice fella. Have tissues on hand for Secondhand Lions.

Chris Thom

If she puts a poll up for it I'm sure it will get plenty of interest.

Chris Thom

Oh that was that same director as Oceans Eleven and the virus movie wasn't it? Blanking on his name, but he's very good.

DavidJPL

For the love of God, when are we going to get Caddyshack and The Blues Brothers! ;-) Whenever the picks get too serious, these would be a great way to lighten things up!

DavidJPL

I was just sayin'.... - Caddyshack , and The Blues Brothers !!! :)

Mark White

Great sum up Cass, your confused feelings are exactly what the producers of this movie are wanting to achieve with the viewer. It’s not black and white or good and bad story. It’s complex You are spot on when you said it’s a “Smart movie, in showing two sides of a coin” For me, this is prime Micheal Douglas Kirk Douglas, Micheal Douglas’s father said “He played it brilliantly. I think it is his best piece of work to date." The score is so underrated as well, with that electric guitar giving off those low downward tones of inevitability! So your grandparents were John Wayne and Robert Duvall!! No wonder you are so cool Cassie 😉 Thanks for the reaction, one of my favourites.

K, Zachary

Give Them Something To Talk About (1995) with Julia Roberts and Dennis Quaid and Robert Duvall. I knew I was forgetting one. Kirk Douglas, (Michael Douglas Dad) was best friends with Sharon Tate went to her funeral.

Stick Figure Studios

It occurs to me that if Cassie felt this uncomfortable with this film, just imagine how she'll handle TAXI DRIVER, which is sort of like FALLING DOWN without the comedy.

Mark White

War of the roses is a nice bit of fun Cassie would enjoy.

Mark White

True. Top movie though. Got to be reacted to at some point.

Mark White

That’s a dam good sum up Bob.

Philip Alan

How did you NOT recognize the description of Apollo 13 while D-FENS was describing to his wife about his reaching the POINT OF NO RETURN? Oh, well. FANTASTIC movie! FANTASTIC reaction. When you spend more than 33 seconds for your outro, you know the movie spoke to you.

Philip Alan

I've owned every video version of this movie. VHS > DVD > Blu Ray. We need the 4K now. I love this movie.

Clay F

Makes sense = the iconic Taxi Driver as a notch on her reactor belt.

Clay F

The Blues Brothers is No. 2 at both the old Popcorn Requests and the new Requests. I think she said she "needed to get to that" referring to The Blues Brothers.

Clay F

@Shreddy Maybe you were over emphasizing to make a point. You said "why it's ALWAYS a dude who is made an example of." (Caps added). What? Females are made an example of all the time by judges. You said "Men are expected to ALWAYS handle everything alone." (Caps added). What? That is simply not true. You said "society doesn't support men, it only supports women." What? Respectfully, that statement is absolutely ridiculous. You said "Men have to deal with their own problems alone." So do women. Your point? That humans have to deal with their own problems alone? @Chris B. Both misandry and misogyny are bad. There is debate on which is more prevalent, and more destructive. Surely, misandry doesn't help. Maybe misandry contributed to the rise of men grievances blaming others, such as in the manosphere and with toxic masculinity.

Eddie Perkins

I have always loved this movie; it's easy to relate to. We all have a breaking point; it's just how you handle it. I wouldn't recommend handling it this way, as it puts you at the point of no return.

YodatheHobbit

I was surprised when he shot Sandra. That's when I personally considered him irredeemable. I could understand but not condone shooting the guy in the leg who threatened him with a knife and tried to kill him in a drive by, I could understand and would defend him for killing the nazi who took him hostage in a very "g-rapey" manner due to it being self defense, but shooting her was where he lost me. I also couldn't be on his side in any capacity for berating who he thought was a rich family for having a barbed wire fence that he, an "innocent" person climbed over. Imagine trespassing on someone's home property and yelling at them for having a sharp fence. 😅

Rick Williams

You understood the movie very well, Cassie. It shows how easy it is for a good person to become lost and lose it in a world of rude people who only think of themselves. They don't care about how they treat others. It is all about them and what they think they should be intitled to. Great reaction, Cassie.

YodatheHobbit

To me LOST BOYS is as dopey and cheesy as Batman and Robin. I prefer A Time To Kill, Phone Booth, 8MM.

Rick Williams

John Wayne and Robert Duvall. You had two great grandfathers if you had one like John Wayne and the other like Robert Duvall.

Zane From Canada

I know this was a Robert Duvall poll pick and I'm so stoked that you'll be watching Secondhand Lions. 😁 Here's some more Michael Douglas films to react to: The China Syndrome (1979) The Star Chamber (1983) Fatal Attraction (1987) very frightening 🫣 Wall Street (1987) you've mentioned the sequel some but have you seen the original Black Rain (1989) high octane action Basic Instinct (1992) XXX thriller Disclosure (1994) very relevant present day subject matter A Perfect Murder (1998) Wonderboys (2000) Funny screwball comedy Traffic (2000) Very dark Don't Say A Word (2001) A modern day Hitchcock film

Clay F

+1 for Traffic (2000). Instead of "very dark," I would say a "contemporary thriller" that is gray, and with terrific acting all around.

The Short version: We Made Him. Absolutely no excuses for him, but some people are not 100% mentally prepared for the Absurd Bullpiss that one has to deal with in this World on a daily basis. Some people make it for a while, but you never know when you’re going to meet someone at their breaking point. Perhaps remember that next time you have an interaction with ANYONE, that you don’t know well. Next time you decide to respond negatively to someone face to face or online. A little politeness, consideration, courteousness, selflessness and understanding go a long way. Getting off the soapbox (before someone kicks it out ;-) I must have missed the poll that gave us this awesome and forever timely film. Apparently, Lonesome Dove (1989) was a possibility. As much as I love this film, I would definitely have recommended more for Cassie and a Robert Duvall tribute, to watch Lonesome Dove. Oh Well, at least Cassie is aware of it and wants to see it. I am also glad that Robert Duvall was the best part of Falling Down for Cassie… even though she didn’t seem to enjoy the moment he finally stood up for himself with his wife. Sometimes you just got to stand up for yourself, even when it’s your spouse that’s holding you down. Thanks Cassie for trying to understand this film and please remember Lonesome Dove.

Larry Darrell

Are we sure Cassie knows that the Wall Street film with Shia Labeouf and Michael Douglas is a sequel to the original film… Wall Street (1987) starring Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, Daryl Hannah and Martin Sheen??

Chris Thom

I don't think she's seen the original.

Larry Darrell

But she’s seen the sequel, which means she really needs to see the original.

Chris Thom

Definitely. Money Never Sleeps is fairly disconnected from the first if I remember right.

Larry Darrell

Other than Gordon Gecko character and knowing his background, there isn’t much connection. The main reason to watch the original is that it is the superior film, and if you’re going to remember Michael Douglas from a Wall Street film, it should be the first one from 1987.

Mark Pitta

I’ve seen this film before but this time around it wasn’t sitting well with me and I knew I wasn’t going to feel any better. 1/2 watch.

Brent Petty

Cassie during any potentially violent scene: "There are women and children there!" Evidently the men present were expendable. :)

Mojo One Thousand

Suggested "Black Rain" a few times, last time would have been as a bit of sleeper for the "buddy" poll.

Mojo One Thousand

Pretty sure it was a YT poll. And I agree that everyone should treat each other with some level of deference, as everybody has something going on.

Mojo One Thousand

A movie made with a lot intention behind it... a lot of apathetic, sweaty intention.

Brent Petty

I doubt it. IIRC, according to her reaction to The Game, she believes Gordon Gecko is a real person.

Old As Dirt Bert

That stream of consciousness at the end was appropriate and one of the reasons your reactions are well received. Thanks for watching this one. It showed unrest of the era and an ugly picture of LA not long after '92's civil rights and policing issues.

Lukas

"it succeeded in making me feel very uneasy" I don't think she likes the Special Sauce, Rick.

Lukas

But even if you can't relate to this movie, cant someone just enjoy watching a man spiral out of control on film? Doing what me might want to do on a bad day at a fastfood restaurant? Why would anyone feel uneasy about this movie? Why does everything need to be a happy ending with flowers? Thank God we don't have people like Cassie writing or making movies. Anyway, I agree with you. haha

Chris Thom

"Greed is good" does sound like it could be a real quote from a Warren Buffet type back int he day.

Chris Thom

I keep thinking Duvall was Royal Tenenbaums. But that was someone else that passed last year.

Mike Lemon

It was the one I voted for. Sorry about that.

Chris B.

Amazing comment, and perfect for this movie in particular! Wish i could like this comment twice!

Milton Reduxed

Wall Street is currently #183 on Popcorn Requests

Gray

Entertaining film, do like how Sheila at the burger place still DGAF even after D-Fens pulled out the gun haha.

Clay F

In the YT Live Duvall prelim polls, the 8 Duvall movies considered: 1st poll -Secondhand Lions 41% -Network 29% -The Judge 17% -The Apostle 13% 2nd poll (I don’t have the percentages) -Falling Down (won) -Phenomenon -THX1138 -Lonesome Dove miniseries (2nd place) YT Live final poll (face-off of winners of 2 prelim polls) -Secondhand Lions -Falling Down (won)

Clay F

As you may know, she said she wanted Lonesome Dove miniseries to win.

My favorite part is when the kid helps him with the rocket launcher and he blows up the construction equipment! Nothing ups the blood pressure more than driving along when a bunch of cones or signs reduces the number of lanes from two to one, and there is no sign of construction or any other progress. If I ever had money to burn, it would be so, so satisfying to simply drive right through all of them! "Sorry officer - I didn't see them!"

My_Cousin_Mose

There is no such thing as toxic masculinity. There is masculinity and there are those who vilify it.

Macabre Movie Maniac

The movie hits home for everyone because it's something we've all thought of before.

LukeG84

Finally got around to watching this one. I remembered almost nothing about this movie other than the burger scene, and watching it again all these years later explains why I never watched it again until now. Too many annoying scenes with the police, and its trying to make you root for the bad guy terrorising his ex-wife by having him do some things you approve of along the way. Hard pass!

Johnny Bullis

Hey Cass.. great reaction. I havent seen this in a while. Glad you liked it. This is a story of deconstruction.. a man who had enough. If you liked this.. you should check out Phone Booth with Colin Ferrell.. very similar movie and its the same director as well. And youre right.. Robert Duvall and Michael Douglas gave great performances.

Astraeos

You've seen the sequel, but not the original Wall Street (1987)?? How has that movie never come up on the channel??

John A

It's wild, isn't it?

Clay F

Toxic masculinity refers to a collection of offensive, harmful beliefs, tendencies, and behaviors rooted in traditional male roles but taken to an extreme, and that can be self-destructive, e.g., can lead to risky behavior, substance abuse, and depression. Toxic masculinity is not inherent in males but instead refers to a set of socially constructed attitudes and behaviours often linked to traditional concepts of “manliness” that can harm individuals and society as a whole. These norms encourage men to suppress emotions, display dominance, and avoid any traits perceived as “weak” or “feminine.” The term doesn’t imply that masculinity itself is negative. Rather, it highlights a harmful version of masculinity that pressures men to conform to rigid roles, ultimately impacting not just men but also women and society overall.

Chris Thom

Love a good stream of consciousness outro. Those are the best.

Kevin Charley

Lonesome Dove is way better than this or Secondhand Lions

Brian Sheely

Modern American society is definitely unhealthy for mental wellbeing. I think most of us could go postal if pushed far enough.

Daniel J Fort

Falling down is about tge working man sucker whom gets the shit end of the stick and snaps Basically.

I felt this way while working for a transportation company 10 years ago. My uncle showed me this movie I didn’t even quit I walked away and changed my number. cause if I kept going with the company this would have happened. I feel for this guy every day
