TSA agents: Does the beginning of this movie make you have conniptions?

Ramah Mustangs

My family and I try and wait until after Thanksgiving dinner before we start decorating for Christmas and watching and listening to Christmas movies and music. So I watched my this with you two this morning as my first Christmas movie of the season. As always it was a great reaction. My wife is on your side, to her Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.

Terry Yelmene

Carly certainly knows who Bruce Willis is now! And she discovered him from a true Christmas movie.

Clay F

I was a young adult when this movie was released. “Yippee-Ki-Yay, Motherf***er!” instantly became an iconic phrase.

Nick Thousan

Great reaction besides being epicly wrong about it not being a Christmas movie.

Looking for others who heard it too. That was a surprise because of her other sister. Very odd use.

hfs jfc

Finally at the end of the comments and only two commenters mentioned your faux pas. Very odd to hear you say that at 1:51:28.

Noticed this now too. Sadly that's how people talk. I was a caretaker for people like that when I was 20, only after that I stopped using that word. PiB girls are partially putting on a persona, they don't really say "Oh fetch" and "Oh my gosh" in real life, they put on an innocent role. They use the F word like everyone else, and who knows what. The thing is, for a beautiful girl it makes them even more appealing to appear innocent (same doesn't work for men). So a lot of women put on that show (they obviously don't cuss for YT algorithm reasons too) I heard somewhere that one of their sisters has some kind of condition. Which makes it even more odd. It was mentioned in the "Rain Man" reaction I think

Allen Bond

"Welcome to the party... everyone!"

Johnny Salinas

Well I guess I'm watching Die Hard tomorrow 😀 I'm literally watching "Rocky II" right now 😀

Mr Jordan

It's officially Christmas .... Yippee Ki Yay

Sahitya

I think Live Free or Die Hard is a very underrated action movie. It gets a bad rep as a die hard film, but on its own its really well made. I would even argue the action is shot the best in it and it's the best looking one out of the series. People don't talk about it much but with the unrated version it's pretty badass

djKENTO

it’s officially Christmas now! Yippee Ki-Yay mother fuckers AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

JediLounger

I am in the middle of the reaction now, and this is just a guess. But have you ever watched Parenthood Cassie? Bonnie Bedelia (Holly) was very prolific in that.

Prof. Writhms

Seasons beatings! 🌲 Though it is outside of the Christmas theme, I consider the 3rd installment (“Die Hard: With a Vengeance”) the best of the original trilogy.  I hope you get to that one at some point.

Scott

Yes , and it's sat night here💪

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

The Cassie n Carly reactions are so great, it feels almost like being in the same room literally watching the movie with some "cool people" (that's like a Goodfella, but for chill Gen X people, like if I say about you, "oh she's cool people man" that means she's pleasant to be around and like you can trust them too). You two are cool people, so fun to hear your commentary together, definitely sisters 😂 Also, the writer definitely had no love for my home Southern California, at least LA aka La La Land lol I get that. But the irony was I'd never before noticed a line where Holly tells John that one of his old cop buddies retired to Ramona, no, POMONA! 😆 If you've ever been to Pomona you know, around here if you start a story with "so I was in Pomona" ears perk up, like, "well you survived, so this should be a story" 🤣 Also, shout to William Atherton, the character actor who portrayed "the Prick" in about 22.7% of 80s movies; he was the amoral news parasite in this franchise, Dickless in Ghostbusters, and the worst Prof ever in Real Genius (love that movie btw)

Andrew Hogan

So Cassie, is this a Christmas movie to you? And yes, do Die Hard with A Vengence. Also, Grumpy Old Men is a good holiday movie that isn’t really a holiday movie along with Lethal Weapon.

Andrew Hogan

It’s funny, I was going to suggest Bond, since hardly anyone reacts to them and also because there’s 23 or so of them. Which ones will you start with?

Sindre Kristiansen

Didn't think it would be possible to enjoy Die Hard more than I already did....I was wrong! This was so much fun to watch it with you guys! Thank you for posting this!

Andrew

In the past several years, weirdly enough, watching this movie has triggered fond memories of my late older brother. We saw this together in the theatre when it first came out and I was still a child (but old enough not to be frightened by it) while on a vacation with our mom. It was my first R rated movie, and we had such a great time watching it together that when we went back to the theatre the following night to watch something else, at the last minute, we snuck into this one to watch it again. It was among the very first in a new line of blockbuster “summer” action flicks that have been flooding movie screens ever since, and I’ll never forget sharing the excitement of experiencing that type of movie for the first time with him.

MattN

Yay! I always love a Carly and Cassie reaction. You guys have the best dynamic and some of my favorite reactions on this channel is with both of you. This is a really fun movie and definitely was important in how we thought about action heroes. Like others in the comments the next two are also pretty great too. Awesome job! This one was a lot of fun!

Sindre Kristiansen

There are more Die Hard movies indeed, but I would perhaps say that the 1st and 3rd are the really strong ones. You can technically watch just the 3rd, but I think it would be fun to watch 2nd with you guys as well. :) The 4th and 5th....eh. I don't know. Maybe the 4th, but it's not a must for me at least. I'm sure many people will have opinions on this (which may differ from mine) but thought I'd give my two cents on it anyway :) PS: Big props to Hart Bochner who played Ellis (the awful guy doing coke). His acting was amazing and his character Ellis has been regarded as one of the worst d-bags in movies. I found it funny that you both instantly didn't like him at all, just confirming how awful his character is! :)

Andrew Hogan

I vote for Speed to be watched since you love elevators.

David Bennett

I should be asleep but seeing you and your sister react to die hard was more important. Absolutely loved how in to the movie you guys were. I personally think the next 2 die hards are worth watching at least once, the rest.....MEH......hope you have Predator 2 on the docket somewhere.....that last Yippe Kiyay cracked ME UP!

JediLounger

I would watch up to Die Hard 4 at least. Die Hard 2: Die Harder is just ok, but there are several plot threads from this one that get picked up(one specific one you would really like). It’s got some solid action, and some pretty good twists, but also has some giant gaping plot holes, and the situation is even more unbelievable than Die Hard. Total suspension of belief is required. Die Hard with a Vengeance(3) is awesome, and you should absolutely watch it. It’s my personal favorite because of how dynamic the film is, situations change by the minute. And it is Funny with a capital F. Absolutely hilarious, one of the best 90s movies for sure. As another member mentioned, Live Free or Die Hard(4) is underrated in my opinion. The plot is really goofy, but the film makers really go for it, and put everything on it being a fun movie to watch. And they mostly get there. Just make sure you rent the unrated version, it’s much funnier with all the cursing intact. A Good Day to Die Hard(5) is….to put a word on it, rough. It’s watchable I guess, and I will watch it with you. But it’s not an ideal film to react too, unless you are going for something completely and totally silly with not much reason to exist. Which is a totally valid reason to react to something, bad movies can make good reactions as well. Just prepare for lots of groans lol. Supposedly a final Die Hard movie is going to be made, I am guessing that Disney is going to see how Indiana Jones 5 does before they try to bring back another aging franchise for at least one more go around.

Matthew Saban

I would love to see the two of you continue the series. I agree with what Sindre said, but definitely include Die Hard 2, it also happened around Christmas. I also agree with Andrew’s comment. The two Grumpy Old Men movies are amazing and the entire Lethal Weapon series is worth watching. The two Grumpy Old Men movies have love stories, for some additional incentive. ❤️😊

Brian McGovern

There are too many die hard movies now. Die hard 2 was meant. Die hard 3 i would certainly recommend as part of your series. From that point on, the die hard series went way over the top. They made John Maclean a superhero. I mean he jumps on the back of a jet for goodness sake.

Nismo

That was great, really entertaining with you two! So before this film Bruce Willis wasn't really in movies or did action, just tv. He really captured that normal everyman quality in the movie, he wasn't a super muscled out invincible hero like Arnold or Stallone. Some other facts, Al also played a cop on the tv show Family Matters. For Hans death scene the director released Alan Rickman from his harness early without telling him. His reaction was real, supposedly he wasn't really happy about it lol

rubberkidney

"its not a christmas movie....but it is fun to watch at this time of year..because...you know...." because you know what...that...its christmas? :) christmas movie confirmed.

Jon Johns
>>73516335

Please don't get me started with Bond... (Cassie knows) but I'll just say, the best Xmas gift I could have gotten was Carly WANTING to watch Bond movies with Cassie! I am giddy with anticipation.

Jon Johns
>>73517189

Great point here, at some point everything kind of tipped, and we started seeing action stars vulnerable, yet still prevailing over the baddies. Arnold in Predator was scared, Bruce here was a bloody mess, and out of bullets. Great thoughts here, Matt.

Jon Johns
>>73519060

Oh my, Bruce in Moonlighting was phenomenal. I wish that series was streaming, or at least more available to buy on discs. It was one of the most clever written and performed shows of it's time.

Jon Johns

It's really quite simple: a movie to watch during the Christmas season is a Christmas movie. The debate is good, though. List your elements of a "Christmas movie" and then look for those elements in Die Hard. They're all there.

Jon Johns

Cassie homework: Roy Rogers, Marshall Dillon, John Wayne. All classic cowboy actors. Also, that dumb cop guy you loved to hate was the teacher jerk in Breakfast club...

Gábor Árki

Great reaction, and great prediction from Cassie with the punch! This is indeed a great movie even though no one was really betting on being a hit. The screenplay is loosely based on a book, which is a sequel. The first book was filmed in the '60s starring Frank Sinatra (The Detective) and due to contractual reasons the role of John McClane had to be offered to him. Thankfully, he turned it down. Then it was also turned down by almost all the Hollywood actors you can think of (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, Richard Gere, etc). Nobody wanted it because it was pretty much the opposite of the usual, high testosterone, macho action roles of the era. Eventually they got Bruce Willis to accept who was trying to break out from television back then. He received a $5 million pay check for the movie which was an outstanding salary for a television actor but he was taking a big risk. If it would have been a flop his movie carrier would have been most likely over. But it turned out to be a huge hit, audience really liked it. I recommend continuing with the next two sequels. Die Hard 2 has a very similar theme and vibe to it although not as great as this one. On the other hand Die Hard with a Vengeance is a great one, one of the best action movies ever made. If you want to end on a high note you can stop there. Live Free or Die Hard is a decent one and won't ruin your taste but it is not a great movie either in my opinion. But I would definitely recommend avoiding A Good Day to Die Hard altogether.

Dioskur

Yes you should view some more Die Hard. Die Hard (1988) Die Hard 2 (1990) Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) ...these three could be called the classic ones. After a huge time gap, they made some more: Live Free or Die Hard (2007) A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) I personaly think these last two are uneeded and over the top. Not bad movies, but more of what you'd expect from an action blockbuster. Less charisma and more boom.

Andrew Hogan

I’d argue that, while not in the traditional Christmas spirit, a lot of people don’t have that Rockefeller type perfect Christmas most of the time and that, that type of Christmas is usually for kids, when everything is happy and innocent and full of wonder. This is an adult type Christmas movie, where lots of things are going wrong, you might not make it home for the holidays, you’re away from loved ones, you have a bunch of responsibilities and kinda want to shoot somebody at times (but would never do, lol).

Jon Johns
>>73520042

Good point Andrew. At my house, there were like 30 kids around Christmas, plus all the parents, grandparents, older cousins, etc. There were two 'Christmas's' at the house, the one where all the kids played with toys, and folks gathered around the tree sipping hot cocoa and eating cookies... but also the part where folks gather in the garage, drinking beers, and catching up, and some smoked, and basically got to spend Christmas with "The Adults"... Die Hard is like that. Its still Christmas, but... different than the indoor, "kids around the tree" Christmas.

Ike
>>73519416

… that’s another one right there, Jon. I gotcha for✌️two more weeks pal. You wanna another one?

Dirk Rheeder
>>73518285

I would love her to watch the Lethal Weapon series, I think she would really enjoy them

Obie Brown

I was the one that sent Cassie the Die Hard Blu Ray, this is like Christmas wish, thank you so much what a great reaction.

Dirk Rheeder

Others have stated, I'll just re-iterate, please put the Lethal Weapon series on the list. Heck, we can do a season of police movies, there are some greats!

Brian Landers

Pleeeease react to Lethal Weapon!!! Carly would love that too!

Steven Ashford

Cassie and Carly dynamic are so fun. Just watched a little bit for some happy vibes. I went barefoot until I was like 12. Only wore shoe when I had to. Cassie, with you on elevators. Got stuck in one on the job in a distillery. Welders were welding tanks on outside and elevator was filling up with fumes. Never again. I take the stairs.

Chazzie3679

It wat nice to see you and Carly together again. Tell Carly I hope she's feeling better Fortunately, I haven't had to have my tonsils removed...yet. With my health problems, it's only a matter of time.

Krusty “Topher”

Seeing some lethal weapon love in here. Agree. Both Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are fun and iconic. Die Hard 1 and 3; LW 1 and 4 are the best ones IMO.

William Bryan

anyone else notice the price of unleaded at the gas station? lol

Scott

He'll yes do Die Hard with a Vengeance at least and Lethal Weapon which may just be better than Die Hard. Sis is awesome watch Lethal Weapon with her

Scott

But for the bast Christmas movie ever made that would be National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation!!!!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

"I want someone to know how good Argyle did!" That was a lot of fun. What a great idea to do this one together! :)

Ronny Boss
>>73526385

I'm waiting on someone to do a reaction to Hebrew Hammer. I watch that every year

Mike Lipke

a really good Bruce Willis movie series that you would love is RED and RED 2

Shehab Dawoud

"It wasn't stupid action." Taking shots at Predator, Cas?

William Bryan

two actors in Die Hard were also in the Ghostbusters franchise. Anyone spot them?

Alex Gorell

It ain’t Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi plaza.

Patrick Toscano

I find it interesting that one of the writers (Steven E de Souza) has said that the movie is a Christmas movie and even has a checklist that compares it to White Christmas.

Grinznmore

Poseidon Adventure moves from a boat to a high-rise. Kudos to the special effects department. Repetitious but it is a fun movie. Characters remind me of the Dirty Harry series. It's an old formula but works and stands up well over time. Thanks for a fun evening. I prefer variety so I'm a no on sequels. History of Violence is a good flick after the holidays. I am still rooting for Scent of a Woman before the end of the year. Happy Holidays everyone.

Josh Phillips

“Welcome to the party pal” still cracks me up every time 😂

Martin Skouboe

I seem to remember you said that you saw Lucky Number Slevin. Bruce Willis was in that one as well (Mr. Goodkat).

Robin Craft

Yippee Ki Yay Cassie and Carly!! Great reaction ladies. Two John McTierman directed movies in a week! Like Predator... plenty of action, explosions and clever one liners. I'm firmly entrenched in the " Yes!! Die Hard is a Christmas movie" camp. Although he appeared in this film only, Alan Rickman's character Hans Gruber is one of my favorite movie villians of all time. RIP Mr. Rickman.

nick bell

I'm pretty excited for tonight now. Next...goodfellas and Godfather 1&2. The classics

Opti_Frog

You could check out Die hard 2, but i wouldn't bother with the rest.

Damon Corrigan

Dissenting opinion: the other Die Hards really aren't worth it. The Lethal Weapon series is okay, but really hasn't aged all that well and none of the have this first Die Hard's combination of Gun-shooty action with brilliant good guy/bad guy and comic lines - they tried, but just couldn't pull it off. And again, it hasn't aged well. However, this was just another classic Cassie and Carly reaction, and I am glad Carly was here for this one. Die Hard is a bit over the top with language and the one scene dragging the woman off the desk was really unnecessary, but all in all a great heist movie with lots of plot twists. I am glad you two enjoyed this one.

Grégory Gautier

No need to see it (the movie), I know it so well, blurred images or not it's the same for me! The movie that launched Willis's career in cinema, and he was the last choice of the cast! My favorite scene is the end with Mcclane and his gun in the back! :D Great reaction, Cassie and Carly :)

Wirenfeldt Jr
>>73533474

Die Hard 3 is solid enough.. and i like the direct link.. 2 was okay and the last two were utterly forgettable..

Jay

I'm still waiting for the director's cut that ends with Hans sitting on a beach, having earned his 20% and loving life:) Won't be able to watch the reaction until tomorrow but I can't wait!

MikeLL

LMAO! "Nothing like a terrorist hostage attack to bring you together!" Pick me up off the floor! Yes it is Christmas now!

Brian Jones

This isn't A Christmas movie..... It's THE DEFINITIVE CHRISTMAS MOVIE..... :) Seriously though, it's quite possibly the best action film ever made. And now that you've started the journey, you must watch 2 and 3..... Anything past that really isn't worth it, but the first three films are pretty amazing. 1 and 3 are action masterpieces..... The two films directed by John McTiernan. Great reaction as always.

Grinznmore

Prayers going out to any members impacted by the storms.

Cole Jennett

I’m a little surprised that Die Hard 2 isn’t more well liked. I actually enjoy it every bit as much as the first, and even more then the 3rd. I think it would definitely be worth her watching 2 next Christmas, and 3 anytime after. I agree with the majority though, it wouldn’t be necessary to watch past 3.

Joe Aschenbrener

Great reaction! Thanks to both you and Carly. You need to watch some cowboy westerns. Start with the original "True Grit" with John Wayne that won him the Academy Award. Yes, Grace Kelley in " High Noon" with Gary Cooper was also worth the reaction. GOOD JOB and GOOD LUCK!

CJGardner

Okay. Alan Rickman. The silky-voiced, compelling, glorious Alan Rickman. Because you both only recognized him as Snape means you've not seen Sense and Sensibility, with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, and Hugh Grant. I remember when Die Hard came out there was a big deal made about how this was the first sort of major action movie that had the villain as intelligent, suave, educated and charming instead of a clumsy aggro doofus (it was the 80s and boy were most villains lame in my opinion). Anyway, to truly appreciate the beauty of Alan and his voice, not to mention the completely WONDERFUL story, acting, LOVE STORY (ies), and filmmaking, you and Carly both would adore Sense and Sensibility. Completely adore it. So I strongly recommend, maybe even if you're doing some sort of Valentine's week or something, for you both not to miss out on a perfect confection of a movie and the truly beautiful side of Mr. Alan Rickman. Fantastic reaction, you guys!

John Drake

Most of the commenters will already know this - when Hans falls at the end, the look of shock on his face is real because the stunt coordinator told Rickman he'd be dropped on the count of 3, but let him go on 2 to get a genuine reaction

Eric

Best Christmas movie of all time. Die Hard with a Vengeance is also a classic. Not a Christmas movie but definitely a must watch if you liked this one.

Choof

I'll mildly recommend Die Hard 2 but heavily recommend Die Hard 3, it brings back the same director and works as a great follow up to the first movie.

Jason Mangen

References. Arafat was a Terrorist leader of the PLA but was able to move freely in some European countries especially France and used aid money to buy luxury items such as suits etc… The FBI agent known as Big John refereed to Saigon and him flying in helicopters then and Little Johnson came back that he was in high school then.

Biggman83

Fun to watch this classic Christmas movie with you both! I’d watch 2, 3 and maybe 4.0. It’s been a number of years since I’ve seen it, but I remember it being entertaining.

Sean Novack

LOVED this reaction Ladies! This film started the saying "It isn't Christmas until I've seen Hans Gruber fall to his death off of Nakatomi Tower!"

Björn Von Knorring

I’m firmly in the ”this is a christmas movie-camp. I think it has lots of christmas-spirits.” I know yourube -reactor vkunia wasn’t sure whennshe watched but after viewing said that it definitely is a christmas-movie😊 Die hard 2 is good and Die 3 is really good. After that it is mostly misses.

Björn Von Knorring
>>73539195

I think some people don’t like it because their plan is not as solid. With just a little suspension of disbelief I think it is a really good plan. I like it.

Björn Von Knorring

Congrats to Cassie who has now accomplished 4/5 of the ”classic 80s action-movies” (Terminator, Die hard, Predator, Aliens & Rambo). Bet you didn’t think you were closing in on that achievement a year ago did you? As for Rambo; I can only say. Do you think it is Sylvester Stallone running around killing people left and right? Thst’s what I though and I was wrong. Yes; it is definitely an action-movie but not that kind specifically.

RJ MacReady

The same director also directed Predator.

Bubba Fett

Like terminator, if you do this series I would pick a stopping point at die hard 3 (die hard with a vengeance). The ones after that just don't do as well. For another excellent Bruce Willis movie, the 5th element for sure!

TOGFather

You are both blasphemers. This is ABSOLUTELY a Christmas movie. Take away all guns and explosions and it's a father struggling to get home to his family in time for Christmas. It's Planes, Trains & Automobiles with MP5s.

Phillip Ribbink

I'm definitely in the It's a Christmas Movie camp. (Just came from the livestream, and Bruce Willis is wrong, the writer and director of Die Hard are right). It's not a Christmas movie like It's A Wonderful Life or any of the Christmas Carols in that you can show it to your kids. But it does have a moral about the importance of love, family and overcoming adversity. When John first arrives at Nakatomi he's looking forward to spending Christmas with his family. But he's also got the unresolved issues with his wife, that he can't let go. It's clear that their separation has not been smooth, they've been separated for a while now, and clearly didn't finish the last argument they had. Holly's at least had the kids, but John's been in New York all by himself. He probably fears that Holly using her maiden name is a sign that she's thinking about cutting him out of her and the kid's lives completely. Though clearly that's not the case, but again there's some bad blood there. Then Hans and his buddies crash the Christmas Party. John endures everything he ends up enduring and he realizes, that nothing is more important to him than Holly and the kids. Being thankful for those in your life that you love, if that's not a Christmas story I don't know what is.

MountainViking

Die Hard 2 & 3 are both worth watching

DanVibes

The reason why Die Hard will always be a Christmas Movie for me is, that it was (and still is) aired on Christmas Eve, almost every year at about 11pm or 12am. Here, Christmas Eve is our big day for the XMAS festivities (not the 25th), and we kids were allowed to stay up longer than usual and watch TV after Christmas Dinner and presents. That's why Die Hard will always be linked to Christmas for me. :)

Chris Reise

Cassie & Carly, regarding this not being a Christmas movie...your entitled to your incorrect opinion LOL. I hope the two of you will continue with the Die Hard tradition with: 2 - Die Harder 3 - Die Hard With a Vengeance 4 - Live Free or Die Hard & 5 - A Good Day to Die Hard I mean, after all, you started the franchise together, it would only be right to continue together, right? :)

Doug R

Cassie, did you notice that the lead cop that we all hated was the Principal from The Breakfast Club. Talk about being typecast.

brooke atkins

Definitely 100% not a Christmas movie. Just cause it takes place at Xmas means nothing. So does lethal weapon and that’s not a Xmas movie!! I’m with Cassie and Carly on this one!! Lol

Jacob Bender

LOL you could have waited until June like the folks who made this movie...oddest timing for a holiday themed movie release EVAR.

Michael Jung

Is it just me or is Cassie getting really good at working out intricate action plots as they happen?

Michael Jung

I think it was established that John realized Hans wasn't a hostage when he recognized his watch as the one the terrorists wore.

Michael Jung

Cassie, you should totally react to the commercial Bruce Willis made for Die Hard batteries - it's basically a mini movie that features some of the actors from the original film after a couple decades.

Ian Cano

That was fun!

Michael Mayne
>>73562640

I think there's a deleted scene that gives John an extra hint that Hans is not merely "Bill." In the standard cut, I think the implication is that John picks up on 1) Hans' style of dress, 2) the way he holds a cigarette (European, "pinch" style), and 3) that Bill Clay is listed as working on a different floor than the Christmas party (?). It's one of the few vagaries of the movie that I just chalk up to John's super-sluething, but I feel like something is lost in the edit.

Michael Mayne

Very glad you all enjoyed this one. It's a favorite holiday movie of mine! Went and watched it anew in a theater right before the pandemic and had a blast!

LMrcs

I legit watch this and Lethal Weapon every Christmas lol. To each their own but they even got a white Christmas with all the paper falling!

Michael Mayne
>>73563550

It was especially hilarious seeing the two of you watch in silent awe through most of the movie, I assume partially trying to piece together how it could qualify as a standalone Christmas movie. haha But it's also always fun to see people who, despite their qualms with its qualifications as a Christmas movie, being otherwise invested and rooting for the McClanes as they muster the threat of Grinch Gruber! haha!

Hok'Tar

Yes you need to watch more Die Hard movies. The third one is my favorite. Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson are awesome together

Patrick Flanagan
>>73523980

LETHAL WEAPON and DIE HARD take place at the same time. I am convinced. Gruber and General McAllister are working together. They even share a henchman, played by Al Leong.

Patrick Flanagan
>>73549520

..."Saigon" of course being a reference to the Vietnam War, to be clear. Pretty much all American action movies in the 1980s mentioned or dealt with the Vietnam War in some way.

Patrick Flanagan

I consider DIE HARD to be more or less a perfect movie, in that it does EXACTLY what it sets out to achieve, with no wasted scenes or narrative dead ends. This movie was hugely influential on Hollywood for at least the next decade, with Bruce Willis offering a more human kind of hero compared to the walking tanks played by Stallone and Schwarzenegger. The cat-and-mouse game between a wisecracking hero and a cunning and charismatic villain, where the physical location plays a major part in the story, was copied over and over again, with a different setting being the twist. There were DIE HARD clones set... on a bus! (SPEED) on a cruise ship! (SPEED 2) on a mountain! (CLIFFHANGER) at the Stanley Cup finals! (SUDDEN DEATH) on a river! (THE RIVER WILD) at a prep school! (TOY SOLDIERS) at another prep school! (MASTERMINDS) on a battleship! (UNDER SIEGE) on a train! (UNDER SIEGE 2) on a plane! (PASSENGER 57) on Air Force One! (AIR FORCE ONE) inside the White House! Twice! (WHITE HOUSE DOWN & OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN) in a shopping mall! (PAUL BLART: MALL COP) (seriously) Not to mention the actual DIE HARD sequels, the first two of which were "DIE HARD in an airport" and "DIE HARD across New York City." (After that the sequels stray from the formula.) The joke about cowboys is a little obscure today, but when Hans is taunting McClane by pretending to be the condescending commie terrorist and criticizing American culture, saying McClane thinks he is "Marshal Dillon" (the hero from the long-running Western TV show GUNSMOKE), McClane jokes that he was always more partial to Roy Rogers. Rogers was a "singing cowboy" (apparently that was a thing?) who sang songs and did rope tricks in between gunfights and chases on horseback. So McClane is just making fun of Hans here.

Planner

Movie recommendations from this: Resident Evil (for the elevators - maybe an anti-recommendation for the elevator bit in it, actually) and Swordfish (for a more realistic cops vs bad guys take). The other Die Hard movies, Die Hard 2 is the only one that is really tied to this one, by my recollection, the rest could be watched however. A Good Day to Die Hard (the latest one, from 2013) is John McClane going to Russia and being a terrorist there... Yes, it is as weird and bad as that makes it sound :P

The problem with trying to draw a line between Christmas Movie / Set at Christmas is that half the canon of "official" bona fide Christmas movies are merely set at Christmas. Love Actually, Home Alone, even It's a Wonderful Life. Often - as in Die Hard - Christmas is a catalyst to get events rolling, but the key themes of these movies and many more are broader reflections on love or family or personal redemption that could have taken place at any time. Heck, even in A Christmas Carol, the granddaddy of all Christmas stories, Scrooge is cruel all year round, and his soul must be saved for all year round. Christmas brings it to a head, it's cast as a time to reflect on these things, but it isn't really about Christmas - it's about *life*. Well Die Hard is about a guy who needs to re-evaluate his life, and Christmas forces the opportunity. He learns what he truly values, and in the process saves everyone from a bunch of grinches who want to steal rather than give, and ultimately the movie is happy and reaffirming of love and family and personal redemption and good ole' American values of entrepreneurship and rugged individualism and, uh, cold-eyed frontier justice (but seriously - Al's big heroic moment is that he's finally learned to kill again. Yay? lol). Thematically it's as much a Christmas movie as any other that doesn't literally have scenes set in Santa's workshop. It just... challenges the idea that it has to be all warm and fuzzy about it. 😉

You guys didn't immediately react to seeing the actor who played the police chief, who was of course the principal who held the Saturday detention in The Breakfast Club.

Marina

That was fun. I'm so happy you watched it. My favourite Die Hard is Die Hard 3. It's a must watch!

Nathan Bishop

I also agree that this is not a Christmas movie. Also, I would say that this is the only Die Hard movie worth watching. The ending for this one is the best, and the sequels fail to measure up in so many ways.

Kristopher Chavez

Here is why Die Hard is a Christmas movie. From The Critical Drinker: The Heartwarming story of a New York cop who travels across the country to reconnect with his estranged wife on Christmas Eve. There's parties and laughter and hilarious mishaps and even a few bad eggs that want to spoil the holiday season. But along the way, our main character learns a few important truths about himself, embraces the holiday spirit, and finally reconnects with his wife just in time to celebrate the big day with his family.

Rumpus Parable

I’m firmly on the side of it being a Christmas movie. Don’t agree at all they have to be sweet in nature - only that Christmas *Must* be intrinsic to the plot, not just a side happenstance. That said, for allt he action focus, if you need Christmas-Sweetness it was that Christmas cause of his being there that landed him two new friends (especially te brotherly bond with Al), renewed Al from his previous work trauma limitations, and brought the marriage together to go home for a loving-parents-together Christmas Day for their kids (not to mention a cool story for the rest of the kids' life about Dad saving the day and Mom's life on Christmas Eve. Back to Xmas film or not, movies set in Christmas Tim like The Princess Bride don’t qualify as the actual film doesn’t revolve around it being the holiday season… it’s just an unmentioned detail that doesn’t matter. I believe you’ve watched Ghostbusters at this point, if so (or heck, not spoiling things if you have) you might recognize the creep reporter was also the Ghostbusters creep EPA visitor. Another fun reaction! :)

Rumpus Parable

Oh! And to add for fun, the theater I love in London that replays out-of-cinemas movies has this as part of their annual Xmas lineup. I’d not watched it ever on a theater screen or happened to watch it for a few years… was there around Christmas so with my other Xmas movie tickets for that theater I half-interested grabbed one for this. Holy Cow did being on the big screen and a holiday crowd hit me just how great this film is. Even if only half-interested if anyone reading this gets another chance to see it in a theater I strongly suggest it. Awesome theater time!

Sahitya

Don't know if anyone's recommended this yet but after a couple lethal weapon movies, u should do the Bourne series, arguably the best action/spy films They're ageless and beat most of the action movies from the last 20 years. And for the record I feel die hard is the only non Christmas movie thats fun to watch during Christmas. Doesn't make any sense but that's the only way I can wrap my head around it

John McClane lost his shoes and had to run through glass, jump out of a building, get shot, and respond to terrorists in Los Angeles — just to see his wife and kids for the holidays. Neil Page had it easy.

Michael Larsen

Hope you do 2 and 3 as well, absolute classics. Anything after that is fairly mediocre.

Steven Ashford

OK just finished watching that with you and Carly. You two got invested really quick in this one. I could tell Carly really liked it. I thought it was funny how you referred to him as Bruce and Carly kept referring to him as John for most of the movie that was pretty funny. Yes there are more diehards I got a feeling you will be watching at least a couple more with Carley.

I love that, thanks for sharing that! I am so sorry about your brother. I love that movies and who we experience them with can mean so much more than the movie. Merry Christmas Andrew!

I love the history stuff like this! That is crazy that they didn't expect it to be big and everyone turned it down.

Jon Johns

I ALWAYS look for that kind of stuff... I thought I was the only one.

Popcorn In Bed

i love that! Where are you from? My husband's fam in Quebec Canada do everything on Christmas Eve as well!

MountainViking

Die Hard 2 does take place on Xmas Eve, as well, though #3 happens in the summer

Jeffrey Folie

If Die Hard is a Christmas movie then so is Lady in the Lake(1946). Definitely a "Christmas" movie you should watch.

Terry Yelmene

on the verge of 2022, reacting to the 1988 classic Die Hard, to comment "watch for that Bruce Willis... he's really good" is beyond adorable - charming! These women are among the MOST CHARMING reactors out there! and definitely agree- Die Hard is one of the best movie classics of all time to be viewed in December, yet NOT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE! great reaction ladies!

Andrew Hogan

For after the holidays, we need a LEFTOVERS poll / bracket of leftover 80’s action films. A few people mentioned some already, maybe you can throw Lethal Weapon in there if you don’t have time this year. It might be smart from a business standpoint to wait in Lethal Weapon, but I might start a riot with this suggestion, it’s up to you.

Jay

How can you possibly make Die Hard a more enjoyable movie experience? Watch it with the popcorn sisters! Some interesting background on Alexander Godunov (Karl), he was a famous ballet dancer in the Soviet Union before defecting to the U.S. in 1979, while on tour with the Bolshoi Ballet. My sister met Alan Rickman in London around 2004-05. She said he was an absolute gentleman and spoke to her and her friend for 10 minutes about Snape and theater (my sis ain't a Die Hard fan). That man died far too soon, losing him and Bowie within a week of each other genuinely hurt.

FranciscoGios

Liked the whole reactions Cassie & Carly!! can’t wait for the next one.

A Good Day to Die Hard is one of the worst films I've ever seen in the cinema. It genuinely made me angry. 4 was a bit meh but it kept me semi interested. But 5? Ugghhh, I hated it. Not mad about the 2nd one, I think it's OK but I love Die Hard with a Vengeance. SLJ is such a good partner for Bruce and Jeremy Irons, while no Alan Rickman, makes a good villain.

Chaz Ines

I never ever wanted to get into action movies. I thought they were all so dumb and pointless . . . until I watched Die Hard . . . then I got it: Pure adrenaline fun and entertainment. Loved'em ever since. Then . . . I thought nothing could make this movie more entertaining . . . until I watched Die Hard with the Popcorn In Bed duo, Cassie and Carly!!! Keep up the wonderful work. Your channel is AMAZING!!!!!

Obsolyeet

Anyone else annoyed that the security guard makes McLane search for Holly on the computer? And when John says the 30th floor, the guard is like "Christmas party, they're the only ones left in the building." You could have mentioned that Sherlock.

N M

Pal. It’s ‘welcome to the party, pal’ with emphasis on ‘Pal’ :)

Mr Jordan
>>73616314

To be fair, they had to show Holly using her maiden name to setup the argument later in her office. Plus, it was cool to show that touch-screen technology back then (1988). I mean, did you see the size of the cell phone used by agent Johnson? No, the other one.

Lifehouse

My god, this reaction was soooo fun to watch. Please watch the 2nd and 3rd with your sis aswell. There are some fun surprises for y'all in these die hard movies. I want them right now to be honest, but i'll be patient! Haha.

Johnny
>>73578311

Yeah the Bourne series would be great - I think Cassie would really enjoy them. I think after the first one, she'd be curious what happens next and would want to watch the rest of them.

Author Travis Adams Irish

So cool, it's been a rough week. My cat went blind, and the roof was leaking, but I had my two "Internet sisters" to watch a favorite movie. And my blind cat enjoyed it too!

Michael Lynch

LOL Bruce Willis, who knew? Everybody knew. Oh and it definitely is a Christmas movie. It also just happens to be one of the best action movies of all time. I would definitely do the next two diehards. Then on to the lethal weapon series. If you want another really good movie with Alan Rickman in it it's definitely not Harry Potter, it's Robin Hood prince of thieves with Kevin Costner.

JayF
>>73685334

I would add January Man for another Alan Rickman movie. Kevin Kline is the lead on that one. It's a comedy/crime/romance thing.

Michael Lynch

I've never seen it. I'll have to check it out.

Che Guevarra

Now you got to watch the sequels, except for the 5th one (the last one). "A Good Day to Die Hard" was atrocious....and Cassie, you have seen Bruce Willis other than in "The Sixth Sense." You also saw him in "Pulp Fiction."

Che Guevarra

...oh and yes, "Die Hard" IS a Christmas movie. 😂👍

Dean Holt

Really glad you both enjoyed it love how you both got really into it as well. It’s entirely up to you how many of the other movies you watch. But the first 3 are really good, the 4th ones a bit average and the 5th was terrible in my opinion. I’m really glad I’ve got your Patreon as I’m enjoying see your reactions to some of my favourite movies

Marcus Asaro

As to the question of are there any other Die Hard movies that one should watch....NO, there are NO other Die Hard movies. People may claim they exist but they're obviously diluted and don't understand when sequels do a movie injustice. Ironically, Die Hard was originally intended to be a sequel, based on the book "Nothing Lasts Forever", and following the events of the novel and 1968 film adaptation of "The Detective".

Jon Brown

I know this has probably been said over and over again in the comments, but yes you should totally watch the next 2 Die Hard movies (preferably with Carly present, that was fun to join both of you 😉) Also, in case you haven’t been told already, if you like seeing Snape in other movies, you should totally watch Quigley Down Under 😃

Dustin Nelson

First time we hear Cassie use some real language, wow

Joe M

Die Hard 2 also takes place at Christmas time. You should def should see that one. Or you can save it for next year.

Tara

Hey Cassie, another great reaction! Sometimes I wish I could talk to you during the movie. There are times when you ask a question and I answer you… lol. The Nakatomi bldg is actually a 20th Century Fox bldg. My aunt was a paralegal and worked in that building for one of the studio lawyers. They had the legal dept there and I’ve been there a few times. I remember driving up to the roundabout at the front and going into the lobby and thinking this was where the body hit Al’s car. Because it takes place at night it became a problem for people who lived close by because they could hear the explosions and loud noises. If remember correctly, they could only film during certain hours. I think you’d like Lethal Weapon, it has action, but also similar comedy moments. Until next time…

Aman Gill

love your reaction videos

Aman Gill

die hard 1 and 2 and 3 are my favorite

Rick Williams

Great reaction to a great Christmas movie. I have always loved this movie.

Jayie

It was a great review, up until the use of the r slur. :/ Was that really necessary?

Brian Lowery

The only other Die Hard movie I’d recommend is the third installment, Die Hard with a Vengeance. You can skip die hard 2 and the others.

Connoisseur

I've seen this movie dozens of times, but Carly saying "take the Rolex!" at the climactic scene (02:02:14 in the movie) was literally the first time I put together that it was the watch they mentioned at the start of the movie😅 I'm slow I guess. Loved the reaction.

Jason Dolan

I'm glad I completely forgot your reaction because it is almost like a new reaction for Christmas Eve this year, my FAVOURITE Christmas Eve movie of all time. Die Hard is not a Christmas Movie... it's a Christmas EVE movie, haha.
