That was a great heist movie! The way it played with who's the bad guy and who's the good guy was really clever! The robbers weren't traditional villains, and their plan was brilliant. Denzel was fantastic, as always – he just elevates every role he plays. And the whole movie kept you guessing right till the end! Hope you enjoy our reaction!

I haven't watched this one in a long time. I'm really looking forward to this watch along, but Cassie, its 2:00 AM. Go to bed.

Omar

Knew you all would like this one 👍🏽

Clive Owen was offered the role of 𝗜𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗻 before Robert Downey Jr. He did a fantastic job in the movie "𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗻," which is a dystopian thriller. We should do a poll on dystopian future movies! Denzel was in his own one in 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗢𝗳 𝗘𝗹𝗶. The catchy opening track was picked by Director Spike Lee when he listened to it in a cab. It's from the Bollywood movie 𝗗𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗲, the video is pretty great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKX5x3KZXfY . The hunting around for actors on IMDB was pretty amusing. 😁Denzel's partner, Chiwetel Ejiofor you'll remember as the villian in 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆. Holly Hunter, not Jodie Foster voiced Elastigirl, I don't think you've watched any of Holly's movies on the channel. Christopher Plummer played IMHO a fantastic Klingon General in the movie 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗸: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆, hopefully you'll get to see that soon. The other hiest films you mentioned, 𝗔 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 and 𝗦𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 are solid movies and worth a watch.

The track that plays over the opening titles is a song called "Chaiyya Chaiyya", from the 1998 Hindi film "Dil Se". It's one of the most iconic Hindi film songs of the '90s I would say, along with the music video that goes with it (they're dancing on top of a moving train). When I first saw Inside Man, it threw me for a loop. I was like "Wait a minute..."😂

Henry Graham

Did you recognise the older lady who refused to undress in the bank? That was Marcia Jean Kurtz, who played a hostage also called Miriam in Dog Day Afternoon - one of Spike Lee's nods to Sidney Lumet's film. If you'd like to see another great Christopher Plummer (Arthur Case) performance, check out The Insider (1999), a brilliant true story with Al Pacino and Russell Crowe.

Shehab Dawoud

It's about time we got a Spike Lee film. He's one of the most important filmmakers in recent history who's made some of the most important films. I hope the next ones you check out are 'Malcolm X' and 'Do The Right Thing'. Maybe during Black History Month? But you could easily watch them before. 25th Hour is another great Spike Lee film that is very slept on IMO. A great Edward Norton performance. I also loved your observation about Denzel, that he always plays a super confident character. That is absolutely true and it's one of his strengths. But it's also one of the reasons why he's not in the GOAT conversation with your De Niros, Pacinos, Nicholsons, Brandos, DDLs. He very rarely steps outside of his comfort zone, he's almost always an alpha, an authority, or a tough guy. Still, he does it better than almost anyone. 'Training Day' and 'Malcolm X' are hopefully next! As for the other heist films, I’d say skip them and let’s turn the page and get other genres on here.

Love The Insider. Michael Mann's visuals and storytelling are sublime as always. But more than anything else, I love it because Pacino brings back his 70s acting. Much more lowkey and subtle compared to anything he did after Scarface. That and Glengarry Glen Ross.

Banned by CineBinge, for no reason. 1 day after purcasing Patreon.. FU

Movie opens: "My name is Dalton Russell. Pay strict attention to what I say because I choose my words carefully and I never repeat myself." Carly *singing*... LOL Anyway nice reaction, one of my fav films. Another good one with Denzel is "Training Day". He plays a very different role though

Sneakers and A Fish called Wanda are both really different from this and from each other and also excellent. I need to recommend Children of Men which is the other top tier Clive Owen film and is so good and heartbreaking and amazing. Christopher Plummer is also the dad from Sound of Music which if you’ve never seen would make a fun reaction. The scene where the hostages get separated by gender and forced to remove their clothes is one of a number of holocaust references in the film. Spike Lee is mixing in 9/11 reminders, references to genocide, terrorism and totalitarianism, as well as implicit and explicit racism, to show that the past is always present and affecting us. The image that really stood out to me on this watch was the bodies of the hostages stacked in the street. The immediate context is the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which were making certain individuals and companies very wealthy in 2006. Murder will out, as the bard says.

AzraRillian

This was a great watch along, and you should definitely do those two other movies.

JL_83

And therein as the bard would tell us…lies the rub

aarswft

Lol at Carly guessing the twist immediately.

Tara

Cassie, at the beginning you were wondering who that older man, Mr. Case was. That is Christopher Plummer, he was in Somewhere in Time, Knives Out and is best known for Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music. You also recognized Denzel’s partner and tried to remember where you’d seen him. He was in 12 Years A Slave.

Brent Petty

Carly's first Jodie Foster movie should be Panic Room.

Jon Johns

Someone, please help: what was the hole for?

Zane From Canada

"Last time I had my johnson pulled that good, it cost me five bucks." "Five bucks?" "Yeah, it was in Tijuana. Don't ask." The back-and-forth banter makes me laugh every time. It's just so casual and nonchalant. 😂

Steve Mercier

Sweet! Love this movie. Denzel, Clive Own, Jodie Foster, Willem Dafore, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Christopher Plummer, the fantastic twist, just the whole thing. Steve? Stevie? Steven? And that opening song? Love it. Good stuff.

Zane From Canada

Jodie Foster has been around for decades, even as a child star. Very famous indeed. She worked with Scorsese twice as a kid Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974) and Taxi Driver (1976) She won her first Oscar for The Accused (1988). Great courtroom drama, but very extreme subject matter. You guys mentioned The Silence Of The Lambs, Maverick, Contact, and Flightplan. All very good. I think you two would love Panic Room (2002). Great thiller. Very modern day Alfred Hitchcock style. Jodie Foster, Forest Whitaker, Dwight Yoakem (the country singer, Jared Leto, and a very young Kristen Stewart.

Dean Holt

Always thought this was an very underrated gem. A few other underrated movies I’d recommend with Denzel is The Bone Collector, The Hurricane, John Q, American Gangster & Taking of Pelham 123. Just like a few have already mentioned Training Day is great movie. You could even have a Denzel week lol. The other two films Sneaker is a good movie with an excellent cast, A fish Called Wanda I’ve any seen once back when it first came out and is a good comedy from what I can remember lol. Also I really hope eventually you see Christopher Plummer in Star Trek 6 The Undiscovered County as it’s one of the best imo.

Mike LL

This movie to me is THE heist thriller, there is none better. The only Spike Lee film I really like, but what really makes this film is the excellent cast besides the superior story. I do admit the movie is less impactful on each rewatching once one knows the twists. The craftmanship is always there, however.

Just Plain Bob

Two superb heist movies that I fear aren’t on Cassie’s radar but which definitely deserve a reaction: “The Score” and “Sexy Beast.” And, a GREAT crime drama (though admittedly not a heist movie): “Layer Cake”, the movie that earned Daniel Craig his role as the latest James Bond.

Jimmy Reyes

This is my favorite heist movie, not knowing the reasoning of what is actually happening till the end. its great! Denzel and Jodie oh my!

Eddie Perkins

That was very good. I wish Carly could handle Silence Of The Lambs; that is her best movie. The Accused (1988) scored 93% on Rotten Tomatoes; it has one sexually violent scene but nothing bloody. And I have seen Panic Room, and I know she could handle that.

They looked them all up in the outtro. She stopped scrolling after she saw 12 Years a Slave but I was hoping she would have seen he was also in Serenity, which I believe she watched just prior to 12 Years for the channel

JarHead0351

Great movie with a great reaction by both - Sneakers & A Fish Called Wanda, Both are a yes to watch

2-Can

Christopher Plummer sang Edelweiss in the Sound of Music - he was Captain von Trapp.

Andrew Rose

Lovely reaction ladies!! Sneakers is a definite must. I've never seen A Fish Called Wanda so I can't say with that one. Keep up the great work!

Walter

First, you absolutely should watch A Fish Called Wanda (comedy classic!) and you NEED to watch Sneakers - and not just because I sent you a copy of it - it's fantastic with an absolutely amazing cast.

Walter

Second, the partner in Inside Man - Chiwetel Ejiofor - was also The Operative hunting River in Serenity.

G

Korean film The Thieves (2012) is another great heist film.

Swigzby

I hope you guys continue down the Denzel rabbithole. He does some amazing movies.

Robert da Spruce

Great reaction ladies! That was fun! In addition to 12 Years a Slave and Love Actually, Chiwetel Ejiofor was also the Alliance assassin in Serenity. Although they’re totally different from this film, both A Fish Called Wanda and Sneakers are definitely worth watching.

Alex Ch

The best hostage thriller of all time is The Taking of Pelham One Two Three starring Walter Matthau from Grumpy Old Men and Robert Shaw (the boat captain from Jaws).

Jason Dolan

Best Clive Owen movies Children of Men Closer The Bourne Identity Sin City Croupier Hemingway & Gellhorn Gosford Park Best Jodie Foster The Silence of the Lambs Taxi Driver (good luck) The Accused Contact Nell Panic Room Somersby Freaky Friday

Aj R

Please watch Sneakers!! Its an awesome movie and its one of my families favorites, we will def watch along with you. 🙂

William Bryan

FYI those games do exist. Grand Theft Auto has to be one of the top ten franchises in history. It's up there with Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Twisted Metal, and Gran Turismo. Bad ass gameplay.

William Bryan

What do the hostages do when they need to pee? I like about obscure questions like that

William Bryan
>>123061834

Doom is an excellent game. It just gets a bad rap because it was a favorite of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold

Terry Yelmene

Clever as it gets! Yes PleaseCassie - BOTH Wanda and definitely SNEAKERS!

Anthony Perez

You know what I loved ? That Cassie has now seen so many movies...not saying that she is jaded or anything but...the look on Cassies face when the one detective started quoting lines from The Godfather "Do you renounce Satan?" ...the look on Cassies face was priceless. A look of "I KNOW THAT LINE!"

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Great reaction Cassie, as always. You and Carly both. Denzel has never been in a bad movie. My friend has worked with him he played background in two of his movies. Anyway I hope you and your entire family had a fabulous Thanksgiving and you should be getting a big box of Christmas goodies from me very soon. Godspeed.

JPDotCom23

Jodie Foster is famous for playing Clarice Starling in 'The Silence of the Lambs' and Clive Owen, the main bad guy became famous for 'Children of Men'.

JPDotCom23

'Sneakers' is a bit better than 'A Fish Called Wanda' but yes, watch both.

Cassie got as far as "love actually" so she may have missed it compared to a Romantic movie that is likely on her all time favourite list - seems it is on most people's.

Mojo One Thousand

As everyone is saying, "Sneakers" and "A Fish Called Wanda" are worth a look. Not that I have seen "A Fish Called Wanda", but I know a bit about it, it has a great cast and won awards, so this would be a good reason for me to watch it Also thought it was an interesting bit synergy that Cassie thought Chiwetel Ejiofor was in "Tenet", as it was actually Denzel Washington's son, John David Washington that was the actor in "Tenet".

Cameron

what a boring screenplay

Rick Williams

First time watching this movie. Very tricky. Keeps you guessing. Great performances. Great Reaction Ladies.

Biggman83

I was waiting for the moment of realisation that Christopher Plummer was Captain Von Trapp in A Sound Of Music. But it never happened…

Ryan Towell

Christopher Plummer was the Capt. in Sound Of Music as well. And no Jodie did not voice Elasticagirl. That was Holly Hunter, I believe you saw her in "The Firm" with Tom Cruise. She was the Secretary for the PI that got killed and she helped make the copies of the files and "fell in love" w/ Toms brother. Who was played by David Straithairn who you just recently saw in Sneakers as the blind guy.

Clay F

I like this movie. Good reaction. Your positive comments about how Denzel Washington enhances/elevates what he does has inspired me to rewatch your reaction to Glory (1989) in which Denzel (as a young cocky former slave with a chip on his shoulder and scars his back) won his first Oscar. I recall his stone face (with tear trickling down his cheek) while he was whipped for sneaking out in an effort find shoes. I like that night when they singing/talking and the Denzel Washington character said "I love the 54th." Then, at the end, when the 54th was storming the Confederate-held fort, the Denzel Washington character picked up the fallen US flag (after earlier he said he didn't want to carry the flag).

@ Clive Owen's thief character is the estranged son of Chris Plummer's banker character We only know about chief robber Dalton Russell what he wants us to know or what he allows us to see: -Is very poised, confident, well-spoken, and intelligent. -British accent implies he is of European descent- He's planned a perfect bank robbery and knows the bank inside and out. -He has inside knowledge of Arthur Case's horrible misdeeds.-He knows about the mysterious safety deposit box 392 and what's inside of it. -While we don't know much about his home life, has people who care about him, or at least accomplices that do. -While not an exact measure, would be in early 40s based off of Clive Owen's own age. We also know a decent amount of what Arthur Case based on what we see in the film and what other character's deduce: -Is very poised, confident, well-spoken, and intelligent. -Past dealings with nazis implies he is of European descent-He wants to present himself as a successful and charitable man, although he is basically a monster for what he did decades ago. -He has a lot of friends in high places, but he doesn't have much of a family life (he doesn't wear a wedding band and we don't see pics of grandkids anywhere). -While not an exact measure, would be in late 70s based off of Christopher Plummer's own age. And in the movie itself, remember a few of things: -Arthur Case is immediately forlorn when he hears its this particular branch that's being robbed -Nobody bothers to asks Arthur Case if there's anyone with a personal grudge against him. The cops all just think it has to do with money, they aren't considering a personal vendetta angle. -Arthur at no point tries to ask the cops to find out WHOM is robbing the bank, nor does he ask Madeline White to find out the robber's identity. He just wants her to negotiate with the robber. Here's what I theorize: Dalton Russell is Arthur Case's son, one that Arthur had in his late 30s. By that point, Arthur probably relocated his European operation to NYC, and Dalton was your atypical Upper East Ride rich kid going to elite schools while his dad didn't do much parenting, and maybe Arthur and Dalton's mom got divorced so they become naturally estranged. At some point in time, Dalton discovers his dad's dirty Nazi laundry. Maybe this happened when Dalton working at the same bank years prior and snooped around about safety deposit box 392. Or maybe he was friends with a few Jewish individuals who had an inkling of Arthur's evil past. Regardless, this completely severs the tie between Dalton and Arthur, so bad to the point that people aren't even aware Arthur had a son. Dalton spends a lot of time disenfranchised and away from that elite world his father was a part of, but then decides to take his inside knowledge to plan the ultimate bank robbery. He knows that his dad will know he's robbing the bank and will be kind of hands off about it, really just focusing on trying to bargain/negotiate with his son about the Nazi stuff.@
