Mimir was quite a challenging and semi-rewarding drawing (although I do like it and you all seem to as well!)

It started as a very rough poster idea for a class that I ended up finishing for personal purposes. It was going to be a black silhouette with super grainy and simple highlights and pops of color but I just like doing realistic coloring so that idea was abandoned quickly.

I sketched it out (took forever because I couldn’t let myself be free and wonky for a while) and loosely colored it. The middle images are different stages of progress. I really had a tough time figuring out the colors on this one. It had a lot of ugly yellows grays that I didn’t want in there. Mimir is a very pale feller.

Then I thought I was done (first pic with full colored background) but he looked too pudgy. Not like,,, weight, but his facial structure was too round. I stopped there and I export it to my phone so I can see it from a different perspective. I ended up making the tip of his nose more pointy and I think maybe generally slimmed down his profile. I made the horns taller and the beard longer to elongate his face.

I was done! But his eyes bother me. I’m pretty sure its because of his empty eye. It’s not bad so I kept both versions (with eye star and without).

Then I was done!!

I think I would like to see it with a more white background to make it more modern :> More harsh.....

Btw it’s really cool to hear your thought process for how you changed his face as you went through it. Sending to your phone for perspective, etc.
