Hello how is everyone!?

Here are my first 3 drawings of Stranger Things characters. I started with Eleven, then did Mike, then Max. I am currently drawing... Will :-).

I am having so much fun drawing these its unreal. It takes me quite a while to draw a picture these days but I plow through these in about a day. I really love not having to like create an entire concept to make a drawing, but instead its more of a research + summarizing moment. The show provides me with characters and I have to just choose a pic of their face and think about what subject matter/symbols/themes would suit them. LOTS of them are similar haha. Lots of upside-down entanglements and sadness. I already have done fire and tendrils twice and I just started. My Will one is going to look a bit more like Mike's visually, I just do not want to make him so miserable and sad lookin.. but I might have to.

It's also so fun to sorta just practice studies. I don't draw off of reference much anymore (fully relying on it, so to speak) so practicing a "recreation" has been very beneficial for me. It is kind of something I forgot how to do.... I like to overlay my references on top of my sketches just to make sure nothing is horribly off-kilter and when it lines up pretty good that feels good. But sometimes a little craziness is needed or even better than perfection. Mike's eyes were much lower in the ref but it just looked wrong. When I was younger I was obsessed with making everything as close to the reference as possible. Now I know how to make it my own a bit more, choose how I might alter the colors. I have been converting the references to grayscale and that seems so obvious but it rly rocked my world in terms of approaches. Like...I don't have to make the colors exact??? Woah...

Anyways, this reminds me of my avatar drawings from 2020. They are just so fun and good. I hope you like them too, there are much more to come hopefully!
