2026-10-22 09:00 Yeah, so Himeno wasn't lying when she said Kobeni "has the moves". For a few of the reactors that ended up watching the CSM anime as it was coming out weekly, some got hounded real badly by CSM fans after getting a pretty negative first impression from her breakdown during the Eternity Devil encounter. Particularly by fans who read the manga years prior and had already experienced Kobeni's rise as a fan favorite character. I try not to get too jumpy with ya'll when it comes to these kinds of first impressions (a policy coming up with pretty much every other character in P5R) because I'm able to look past my attachments with certain characters enough to understand that getting a bad first impression with people like Kobeni is part of the intended experience. But hey, some people just can't help themselves, I suppose. Anyway, as for "my" first impression with her, I wasn't too bothered. The main reason being that Kobeni was actually my introduction to CSM back when it was just a manga with no anime adaptation. There's a particular Kobeni centric scene that's like 2-3 seasons away from being animated that became the source of a shit ton of memes and fan animations, one of which I just stumbled upon on YT one day. Had zero clue what I was looking at, but it was clear to me that there was lot of love for Kobeni based on what I saw from the comments. So when I got around to reading CSM myself for the first time, I knew there had to be something else to this girl that gave her such a cult following. That being said, while the moments of her excelling in combat are cool, I do think that her timidness is honestly the main contributor of what has made her such as popular character. Half of the draw being people sharing Fujimoto's sadistic sense of humor in seeing a pathetic person going through hell for the most absurd reasons possible, and the other half being those who do actually sympathize with her constant anxiety. There are many people out there who can relate to her situation of barely making it through each day as their family forces them to have to put up with indescribable amounts of BS all to help out their relatives.

Yeah i wanna see the look on their faces when Kobeni comes in clutch and saves the day (plus that shot on the train of... oh look who is alive and unharmed...creepy af!)

This is the episodes that show why Makima is such a ledgendary figure to the other devil hunters. She is Her, with a bunch of mysterious powers. From this episode we see she has regeneration, an attack ability that punches holes through people, the ability to watch through te eyes of a crow (like mei mei from JJK), and can voodoo doll people.

JT

While Makima's powers are meant to be a mystery, I suppose I should bring up the difference in dialogue between the manga and anime here (9:52). Instead of saying "I was able to avoid getting shot", she originally just says "I wasn't hit". Just food for thought.

Finally got around to watching the Reze Arc movie btw. What a beautiful film (not that I was expecting really otherwise). Gonna have to gather some panels and notes on it pretty quick. Gonna have to dismantle the setup I use to put my BS here together pretty soon for my move lol

Its sad how Aki only has two years of Natrual lifespan left, and that's only if he dosent use the sword nail again. I dont think he is gonna make it that long though tbh.

Denji have retrospection on himself for his lack of emotions and grief over his friends dying, shows how intelligent he really is. Being able to recognize your own shortcomings, and trying to think about what might be the cause of them is something that's pretty hard to do for normal people, and many require a therapist to open up those pathways of thinking. O don't feel like Denji is a "stone cold piece of shit" I feel like he is traumatized and is just blocking out his emotions as a self defense mechanism. I dont know how CSM ends, haven't got much father than the anime with the manga, but if Denji lived long enough I believe all that trauma will hit him like a brick later on, if he ever gets to a place where he is "safe".

Jennywocky

Yeah, Denji is undervalued as a character. He's showing more emotional intelligence/chardev than Jinwoo (from SL) ever does, lol.

Jennywocky

I'm really looking forward to watching it for a third time...

JT

If we're counting the times I've read it, this one's my gonna be my fifth lol

Jennywocky

I never read it yet :)

E9: So the closer (Aimer’s “Deep Down”) is one of my favorite CSM S1 closers, with its emotional power and the flowing animation both disturbing and mesmerizing… and along with being different than most of the closers, it just aches with such a sense of loss. Himeno promised “everything” to the Ghost Devil in return for “everything” back – and whatever its faults, the Ghost Devil is true to its vow and (even with Himeno gone) goes to jumpstart Denji back to life. It’s a small grace but we’ll take it. Yeah, Denji isn’t dumb but he’s inexperienced – he never imagined how ruthless his enemies would be, cutting both him and his hostage in half. But things will get even more ruthless… As far as Makima goes, you should trust your observations and not dismiss them. We all saw her take that shot to the head, and you know there was no way in hell it missed regardless of what she tries to say later. Soooo…. there’s various reasons she still walked away, you’ll have to ponder which might be true. But we definitely DON’T know what existing contracts she has with devils – and whatever she did at the monastery in Kyoto, well, that was horrifically brutal. You saw the cost – a name spoken, a life spent (the convicts she requested), and what she gets is that whoever’s name was spoken by the sacrifice becomes momentary putty in her hands. Along with Himeno slowly vanishing, this sequence is one of the most horrific in the show so far. Kobeni might be a nervous edgy wreck much of the time, but she’s got SOME kind of devil pact (which she refuses to specify back in E6-7 at the group dinner?) that obviously makes her extremely formidable and able to save Denji. Some viewers think it’s a Monkey Devil (based on her speed and agility) but… who knows, or what its price was? What’s really sad is Kobeni vowing to tell Himeno she’s quitting… not realizing Himeno is already gone. It was also sad how Hirokazu (already mortally wounded) shifts to take the kill shot aimed at Kobeni, saving her life. It’s pretty wild how scared shitless Akane seems when people start to explode, since she seemed almost unstoppable with her Snake Devil. It’s perfect, because if the steel-minded Akane is freaked out, well, now we’re all freaked out too. I heard Ken mention her fingernail. Yup, and a second red “nail” appears on her finger when she commands, “SNAKE! TAIL!” to stop Kobeni. They aren’t really red nails, they’re the red nailbeds of her now-missing nails – the Snake has peculiar tastes. E10: Power and Denji are such a great team, they make me laugh so much – even when they’re being jerks (like stealing all of Aki’s apples) or coming up with outrageous strategies for defeating Kishibe. As for Aki’s, he’s mostly in a daze – his lifespan has been heavily shortened with nothing to show for it, Himeno is gone, and then he finds out from her letters home that she was trying so hard to get him to quit, to save his life. He’s still able to cry at least. I hope one day he will be able to smile, though. As a taskmaster, Kishibe (who was Himeno’s master) is a real trip, and while it sucks to be killed by him countless times, better Denji and Power learn here how to fight properly if they want to survive in the future. They both get better (and it’s hilarious watching them wear glasses to seem smart) but Kishibe’s still got their number. With little resources left, Aki gets taken to the Future Devil to make a deal. Other bargains described suggest Aki’s barely got anything to barter with, so what will he even offer?

Legacy

Devils usually require something to use their powers like aki gives up lifespan to use the sword ((he has 2 years left to live not 2 uses of the sword)) . when you said “what’s up with her fingernail” that’s all she had to give to use the snake devil

Makima was shot, she was lying.
