Have to admit, I was really pissed off when I first watched this about how Mirrio and Deku allowed Overhaul to take Eri away. I understand the big picture reason, but it left such a bad taste in my mouth. I was truly disappointed in them. Especially Mirio's immediately readiness to abandon her for the sake of the mission. Saving the person in front of you is what matters. The moment you let someone out of your sight, who knows what could happen. This scene shows why Deku is such a superior choice over Mirio, if he was alone without Mirio holding him back, he wouldn't have left that alley unless he had Eri, or if he was dead.

I see your point, but what were they supposed to do? They didn't have a clear understanding of his quirk at the time and there were other citizens nearby that would have been caught in the crossfire. Also, they're just kids. Got to cut them some slack. If they did try to stop Overhaul and things went wrong, they would've been responsible for possible casualties and for not following orders. It's a tough situation to be in anyway.

They could have grabbed Eri and ran if they didnt believe they could take down Overhaul. Very few people are faster than 8% deku at running in a straight line, amd Deku can increase that at the cost of his body. Mario can't be caught if he dosent want too. Not to mention they could have easily gotten backup. The point of a hero is that once they take that title, they basically sign over their lives to protect others. Protect until you die. Heros in the MHA universe balk at that, which was Stain's entire point about false heros.

There was a lot more bad that could’ve happened if they tried to act in that situation rather than not. They had no real proof that Overhaul did anything wrong unfortunately and sure the whole thing looked suspicious but one wrong move and it would’ve been over for both of them knowing what he can do (Case in point Magne and Compress’ arm) there goes your chance to save Eri because he would've fleed with her if they were onto him, and Deku and Mirio are also dead too. Overhaul also probably had some backup when he goes out in public and if something went wrong regardless and the heroes didnt’t so it was the right call to wait.

I get it but that would have jeopardized a seriously large operation. Overhaul isn’t just a low level street criminal, he’s the head of the Yakuza - the biggest gang in the country. If you take him in on a dv charge he gets a slap on the wrist and his entire criminal operations goes dark. They’d never get another chance to take out a guy who’s flooding the streets with drugs that could affect the entire superhuman population. Plus neither Miro or Deku are pros. They have to use smart judgement and take this info to people who would know how to act on it in the best way. And Mirio recognized that Overhaul had already seen Deku’s face so he’d be in danger if they made a move here. It’s frustrating but Mirio made the right choice

Well, if Mirio (Lemillion) died, I guess Foresight would no longer have a claim for Deku handing over One for All, lol! (Game, set, match!) Mirio’s pretty slick with Overhaul, though – playing it light and airy. When Overhaul invites them into the alley, Ima like “FTS!” -- if I were Deku fixated on saving Eri, I might have just grabbed her and fled. But that could have been disastrous in terms of ultimately capturing Overhaul and preventing even more harm. Deku’s getting rocked by the hard practicalities of hero-ing bumping up against his compassion and idealism. I kinda had the same reaction as All-Might hearing about his impending fate. He made his decision, and he knew what he was deciding when he made it. It is what it is. But it’s kind of wild Deku’s presence has made him resolve to endure (if possible) past his fated end. I guess we’ll see what comes of this – but it doesn’t really change anything for All-Might. Just like Rogue One, he’ll take chance after chance to keep living, until he either survives or his chances are all gone. His resolve meanwhile will remain constant. “Ultimate Fistbump!” [a great sci-fi reference for today, btw, Nov 4 – IYKYK!] Knowing the future: I’m not sure. Basically what if you look and the end result SUCKS… yet you still aren’t happy with that outcome? Plus sometimes hard situations teach us something important. And now the story has changed: Instead of bravely venturing into the unknown with hope in your eyes, you’re someone fighting against the future to change the fate you’ve foreseen, fearing you might not be able to. Will it change your decision ultimately to know? Sometimes I feel like the value of a choice is owning it while not knowing the outcome – it makes it fully yours. But hey, I guess your idea of life being a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book where you eventually read ALL the pages is valid too lol! I haven’t figured out Overhaul yet – his power is devastating, yet he’s actually pretty measured and he practices restraint. What’s up with his demeanor and what are his actual goals? Wow, Red Riot pulled through, didn’t he? That was pretty cool. And it was nice to see him get some more attention.

Red riot unbreakable!! I’m a huge Kirashima fan I could feel the manliness through the screen🥹

42:07 he’s coming so far to the pint he’s giving people motivational speeches! So proud of the angry chihuahua

Then the operation fails. Simple as that. Sacrificing the person in need of help in front of you, for a possible chance of success in the future that hasnot yet happened yet, is exactly the lind of thing that leads to people in charge viewing human lives as statistics and numbers. Its not a hero's job to plan and scheme. Its a hero's job to save the person in front of them.

Wingus

Sorry if this comes off kind of rude, but that way of thinking feels very narrow minded. By definition, a hero is someone who saves people and fights evil, but you really have to think of repercussions. Sure in most stories people can get away with doing whatever they want with minimal repercussions and most of the times even get praised for it, but it makes a story more interesting to actually have to think before acting. Does it suck that Mirio and Deku had to leave a little girl alone, yeah, but as others have said, what happens if Chisaki crashes out right then and there, what about all the damage that can be done in that moment in a public space, all the lives that could be lost. You can be proud of yourself for standing with your morals, but then what. Again, don’t mean to admonish you in any way, I totally understand the feeling of being let down by a hero not saving someone right in front of them, but they made the right choice.

Logan Prime

Kirishima is one of my favorite characters. He absolutely pops off this season. Episode 5 of this season is one of my favorite.

Emiya Shirou

I find it both funny and fucked up that Kaminari is Class 1A’s resident phone charger

Zen Reacts

It not a particularly stand out moment but in s2 even All Might admits there are people that he is unable to save even if he wants to

Zen Reacts

Also yes Togatas experience becomes very apparent in this situation

I don’t think that they made the wrong decision, but regardless it’s not like the story just lets them off. That moment stays with both of them. They’re young and inexperienced and trying to balance what being a hero means in idea vs in reality. If the correct choice was always save the person in front of you then there would be no tension, and no real choices for anyone to make. But it’s not that simple, not in the show or in the real world. And every decision carries weight, which they end up feeling the weight of this specific decision as this arc continues. It’s meant to be tough on them.
