Yeah, Bethany got it right, that's the same One Punch Man training regiment lol.

E3: New characters: - Jin-Chul Woo: Brown haired Hunter Association Manager who shows up to test Jin-woo’s mana - Tae-Shik Kang: Purple-haired Hunter Association Assistant Manager Yeah, after THAT penalty quest, I’d start doing my push-ups daily too! “Eternal Sleep / Final Rest” disease: Afflicting Jin-woo’s mom, seems to come from exposure to mana so it didn’t exist until the gates started appearing. 1 in 10K is pretty rare. No one knows how to cure it. Stepping back for a second, I’m amazed they gave Jin-woo a hunter license with only 10 mana, when the lowest ranks were normally at least 70. A sympathy license? Or were they really that desperate for warm bodies? IMPROVEMENT! Jin-woo normally gets a hospital trip from one goblin, but here he fends off three before actually winning the fight -- He would now (probably) survive E1 of the “Goblin Slayer” anime. I get why he picked Strength to improve first (esp after E4), he’s always felt weak and it’s the trait feeding his sense of inferiority, but you guys are right that he needs to be beefing up his health among other things.

So the levels and attribute points Jinwoo gets are completely separate from anything else. Seems like he’s essentially in his own system that has no correlation with the real world systems. The number from the mana reading was the real world mana scaling. Most E-ranks have at least 70 mana. He had 10 lol. But that’s why he was considered the weakest hunter alive. But yea his levels and stuff is like its own thing. But that’s not to say his leveling up doesn’t translate, as we saw in this episode, when he levels up in his little game system he does actually get stronger and stuff in the real world

I never saw OPM, so that's hilarious!

E4: Ken: “Grab it by its tail and whip it around!” Lol, like a Warner Brothers cartoon?? Jin-woo: Solo Leveler / Murder Hobo! So I will never complain about A-1 (the animation company) – they’ve made some excellent productions (including two of my favorite anime, “86” and “Your Lie in April”), excelling at engaging animation, integrated music, and good pacing for source adaptations. The music (by Sawano, the AoT guy) and animation bring a ton to the look and feel of Solo Leveling – it’s epic and stirs up a lot of emotion. E-rank hunters have at least 70 “Mana” as measured by their testing machines (mana is how much power a Hunter has) so it doesn’t translate directly into Jin-woo’s stats or level… but yeah, he’s obviously not an E-rank anymore in terms of power! I love Jin-woo’s thoughts while fighting the giant snake boss – he has buried the rage stemming from his feelings of insignificance and weakness all his life, cloaking it with by this nice, quiet, demure demeanor (reminds you of Mob in a way, right?) – but actually he despised being weak, envied the strength of others, and believed that being nice never got him anywhere, because the weak always lose. Now he will be strong at any cost, and this ambition pushes him far beyond his limits. Will Jin-woo’s character change now? Will he treat people differently? Being fixated on strength and despising the shame of weakness might make him into someone he and others would no longer recognize. Will he become a bully himself? Will he sacrifice others since he’s no longer putting himself last? Craving something so badly can lead to growth but can also twist one’s perspective, forcing a person to wrestle with dark impulses they had previously buried… (He’s kind of a contrast to MHA’s Deku here, who although also going from having no power to becoming the top hero, had a different primary motivation of helping others. Jin-woo right now mainly wants to feel strong and convince himself he’s got value.) I can really identify with Jin-woo’s “inner pep talk” here, in the sense that one way we deal with fear or danger is remembering what we’ve faced in the past and how we succeeded – I’ve been through some scary things (divorce, unexpected job changes, etc.) where I wondered how I’d make it on my own, yet I persevered and DID make it, and nowadays when some new change comes up, I remind myself how I’ve always landed on my feet and weathered out the storms to reach a better life. Those memories give me confidence to face new changes, and my fear is not as strong. I had to laugh when Jin-woo just quietly pops up in back of that D-monster boss fight and clocks it with the broken sword, completely turning the tide. (Get used to that…!) Aleks Le also deserves a lot of kudos for Jin-woo’s voice, he plays it so soft and quiet in E1, yet we are seeing a definite change in Jin-woo’s voice timbre as he becomes stronger (and he’s also had some pretty emotional moments that Le just rocks, early on).
