Its not so much about maximising monetisation, there have been cases of age restriction/account walls and even videos being taken down so the use of other words makes it more accessible. Obviously its about monetisation too, to an extent, but yk this is their job so

It's not even about monetisation! Obviously, that's still a factor and we want the series to be profitable but that honestly doesn't play that much of a significant factor here (or as much as you may think) as YouTube ad revenue is good but it's not something we depend on for our overall monetisation (in fact, it's something we never even received until about 7 months ago). It's honestly mostly about age restriction in general. Getting hit with age restriction absolutely just kills a video's performance beyond just monetisation (it straight up is just removed from YouTube search results and isn't shown to people) and we make the videos to grow an audience so there is no point in us putting out a video that won't be shown to people due to an arbitrary policy decision by YouTube. We agree with you that it's a stupid policy decision but we are ultimately going to have to make that concession to play in the sandbox that is YouTube. Hope this offers some insight beyond it just being a monetisation thing! -J

question for Wendi- have you ever read or heard of 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami? its a novel about a cult. it goes a lot into kind of the mechanics and history of how the cult gained influence and popularity. it feels very realistic and its really interesting in the same way as a lot of content like this episode of the podcast as well as lots of what youve covered on your channel. just seems like something you might be into, or at least might like to kinda Know About. either way thanks for reading. and of course it goes without saying that i recommend the book to anyone else to whom it seems interesting!
