Some of my friends who can only afford to maybe go to one or two big shows in their lifetime will rewatch those videos over and over for years. Or if it's a concert where the person passed or retired so it's impossible to see them again live. I do this with videos of Elton John live that people post on YouTube, he had a residency in my city but my lazy ass kept telling myself I'll go next year then he retired. 😢

My guess is that they’re still trying to find their groove - mainly Jackson. He’s doing the OP and Red Thread weekly and Criminally Stupid. But he’s also doing the big bulk of research for Red Thread and Criminally Stupid as well as doing those Red Thread after reports. I think he’s spread pretty thin atm. I think it’s great to keep asking since they did say it was gonna be a thing, but my guess is that it’s a timing/scheduling thing.

Honestly give the new Mad Max movie a chance I know it's Chris Hemsworth but he actually does pretty good as a protagonist in furiosa, and obviously since it's Chris Hemsworth they bring him in to do a little bit of Thor shtick but given his character and motivation I think he does well with it

I'll be honest, so many of these episodes when it's just 3 hosts are mostly just dudes complaining about stuff, without much comedic punchlines or jokes thrown in for levity. They are hard to listen to because I already see that in many places on the internet and it's just boring after a while. I like the guys and they are entertaining but lately that's just the feel I get and I don't know if I enjoy it anymore.

I guess I'll concede AI rants have made for some high points in recent episodes, but now it seems like there's a segment dedicated to AI almost every episode. Charlie on the other hand has had hardly any input for a long time. He's not as enthused as the others anymore, it never feels like he wants to be a part of it.

First, switch Arnold Schwarzenegger in for Gilbert Gotfried if a natural speaking voice is so important to the analogy. Second, there already is a precedence since Bette Midler sued Ford in 1992 for hiring a soundalike to sing one of her songs for them. Laws about voice impersonation are inevitably going to be expanded if governments are serious about outlawing deep fakes. I'm not saying they should be, I am simply saying it's an inevitable byproduct of the deep fake issue. But it doesn't matter if Scarlett would have won the case or not (Open AI apparently already took down the voice in response, I read). If somebody tells a company "I don't want you using my voice for your AI assistant" and the company's response was "we'll just hire someone to impersonate you so your permission doesn't even matter" that is shitty, immoral behavior. Which is what happened, it wasn't a coincidence. Altman tweeted "her," the movie title where Johansson played an AI companion, immediately before demoing an AI companion that sounds almost exactly like Johansson. It was obvious. If this happened to a random nobody, or even just a celebrity more endeared to their fans (like Keanu Reeves or Brendan Fraiser), there would be WAY more public backlash against Open AI. But since it's "some rich cunt from LA," people are turning it into a "lol, fuck the rich" moment.

Nah, Microsoft is worse with doing things and abandoning them. They are the MASTERS of it. They abandoned their phones what now, 3 times? They buy a million games studios and kill them one by one. They killed Xbox. They put ADS in their PAID operating system. They constantly walk back on promises and pretend like they never existed. Part way through the episode and I don't knownifnit gets brought up, but regarding the scarjo voice thing: the guy who played Marty's dad in back to the future didn't come back for one of the sequels, and so they hired a look alike, used prosthetics and kept him in far shots so you didn't realise it wasn't him. The original dad actor successfully sued for use of his likeness

I usually agree with Jackson but that Scarlett Johansson take was one of the worst I’ve ever heard. Casting directors very often look for an [insert celebrity] “type.” They go to the actual celebrity first, and if they can’t get them, they look for someone similar. It’s kinda ridiculous to suggest they just abandon the role altogether because their first choice said no.
