As much as Dragon’s Dogma is one of my favorite games of all time, the fact that it lets you have sex with children is a constant reminder that its dev team is, unfortunately, Japanese.

I really don’t really see what Jackson is seeing here. If anything, it seems to me to be the opposite. The 90s and early 00s were inundated with comedies that casually sexualized high schoolers, and the internet was rife with jailbait and “countdown until X celebrity turns 18” sites.

Yeah, I'm not saying pedophiles were invented in the last 10 years, but I do believe that normalisation is trending in a direction that is a bit more uncomfortable than it was in the 90s and 2000s. Blatant acceptance and almost pride feels more common, like people with that interest have almost been galvanised by having popular media that promotes their interest as well as access to mainstream communities that also accept their interest as well. The comedies sexualising high schoolers was weird, and the jailbait and countdown sites were certainly disgusting, and groups like Nambla existing was concerning but each of these examples feels relatively tame to me compared to what is happening now.

Dreezy

49:48 Jackson’s been fighting these degenerate lolicons for so long he can’t even find things cute without it being weird 😭

Simon Hughes

oh i get it now, its Jackson Carp, like Clark

This is why Jackson as an American and a gun owner. I’m all for hunting pedophiles dangerous game style. Us Americans have an unquenchable bloodlust, and my and a majority of my fellow countryman’s utter hatred and distain for pedophiles. The only problem is 80% of Congress and the Senate have to go (This is a joke obviously people, kind of 🤣)

I’ll elaborate. It’s a long read. Beware of spoilers. The game has a “beloved” system. Essentially, it keeps track of every npc you’ve ever interacted with and uses an algorithm to determine which of them likes you the most. It takes into consideration how often you talk with them, how you treat them, whether you give them gifts, etc. At the end of the story, it determines who has the highest affection towards you and names them your true beloved. They are then kidnapped by the titular Dragon and you have to rescue them (or let them die in exchange for ultimate power, but that’s another story). It’s a neat play on the “knight saves his true love from the dragon” trope. Of course, after you save your beloved, the two of you lie down together suggestively, the screen fades to black, and you wake up in your bedroom together. It’s pretty non-graphic and tasteful, but the implication is there. The problem is that every human npc in the game, with maybe three specific exceptions, can become your beloved. This includes the old folks, the already married folks, the nuns and priests, and even the children. What’s even better (worse) is that this beloved system is never once explained to the player. You don’t know about it until the game has made its selection, and even if you did, the way it works mechanically is so obtuse that it was a genuine mystery that took years for fans to figure out. Without a guide, it’s almost impossible to guarantee you’ll get the person you want as a beloved (there is also no way to not have one). That means a lot of players weee blindsided on their first playthrough by the game suddenly declaring that their one true love was the married blacksmith, the court jester, the elderly father of their childhood friend, the fat old nobleman’s teenage daughter, or the fat old nobleman himself. Most of the memes surrounding the game involve fans declaring that one of these is the “canonical” choice. The nobleman’s daughter is particularly bad because she happens to have a quest associated with her late in the game which, if done perfectly (which most players will want to do as it has one of the best rewards in the game), will raise her affection to maximum. It’s an innocent quest that sees you babysitting her for an afternoon, playing hide and seek and engaging in a foot race. Being that this is one of the last available quests that raise an npc’s affection, however, and that the beloved system has a built-in recency bias, completing it right before you confront the dragon massively weighs the beloved selection towards this underage girl, so a lot of players get her accidentally unless they actively try not to. The common excuse is that the game was extremely rushed and most of the mechanics were left unfinished. This is objectively true. But the argument falls apart for two reasons: firstly, the romance mechanic was recreated almost identically in the sequel, which runs on an entirely different game engine so it was clearly a deliberate choice rather than a holdover. Secondly, you get a unique ending cutscene if you got certain characters as your beloved, and one of them includes a witch named Selene who is technically in mortal and thousands of years old, but who canonically has the body and mind of a 14-year-old. It says so in the official material released alongside the game. To be somewhat charitable, you can also play as a child if you so choose. There’s nothing stopping you from making your character a kid and then romancing a child character your own age. But there are no flags in the game for determining who can and can’t be romanced by which player character. Every npc, with a few exceptions, is considered equally eligible. Certain characters (the most fleshed out ones) are more likely to be chosen than the rest, but if you don’t engage with these characters enough to raise their affection, anyone else can be chosen with equal likelihood. If you don’t actively pursue anyone, simply talking to an npc more recently than the others right before you confront the dragon could be enough to push them into your beloved status, resulting in you ending the game with a new spouse who you never wanted to be with.

All that said, it is a fantastic game besides that one detail. Just look up a guide on how to avoid being an accidental pedophile.

leatherhand

Jackson insinuating that there is more Daphne porn than Velma porn shows he is not NEARLY that chronically online

Dave Matthews

The chibi reviews guy made a response video to you guys lmao. Also good lord don’t look at the YouTube comment section of this video or his response, everyone is defending lolicon bc it’s “just fiction” 🫩

theofficialpodcast

Yeah, this was an unexpected development and a frustrating brigading .So many obnoxiously bad comments, all upvoting eachother. But this behaviour absolutely *isn't* being normalised, guys.

Dave Matthews

I can’t tell if the majority of the audience has just been closeted pedos, or if the algorithm unfortunately showed the video to the worst people it could. Props to you for making the video anyways though Jackson. All these people are claiming that lolicon is having the most pushback it’s ever had, and yet the response clearly shows the complete opposite

deviantoats

Most of the people defending loli on the video definitely aren't fans. A lot of them keep accusing a "host" of following some loli artist which makes them "hypocrites" but the only time they name someone they mention Andrew lol

deviantoats

lmao, I just watched his video and his whole argument is Andrew follows a loli artist on Twitter so Jackson is somehow a hypocrite.

Not_Muchh

Jackson Carp was my first romance

theofficialpodcast

No, the current comments aren't from fans. Lolicons are so emboldened by the current state of the internet that they actively brigade like this constantly. Chibi Reviews basically sent them, as well as a few other notable lolicon personalities on twitter. There were a few Lolicon former fans who commented about being disappointed, etc, before the large wave of people came who were sent by Chibi Reviews. They've done this to other people who "notice", though.

jonathon

A show like big mouth would not have existed in the 90s, it would have been ripped to shreds. It got multiple seasons and even got awards I think, thats the best example I can think of what Jackson's saying about it becoming more normalized to an alarming degree

theofficialpodcast

I think finding your niece or nephew cute is normal, of course, but when 30 year old men are commenting on children that they are not related to as “cute” out of the blue on random photos or videos, I do think that’s at least somewhat odd. But maybe I am just too sensitive about it because I’ve seen how lolicons like to use coded language to signal their interests everywhere across the internet.

Western Philosopher

I’ll give you that one. I have no idea how Big Mouth is allowed to exist.

Waits Sharpe

Has anyone actually played Pragmata? Despite the controversy I’ve literally never seen a single clip of gameplay which kinda informed me it Probbaly isn’t worth playing

Zach

Holy shit the amount of people defending loli

OneMillionRats

Jackson Carp is the GOAT, been wanting to hear someone go after these fucking pedos for a long time.
