For me I found Carol's story finding her true self very relatable to my life and just the way she connects everything together it was cool to me

Many dislike this movie, but I personally enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it's incredible or necessarily one of my favorites, but it's an enjoyable movie and I personally found humor in Brie Larsons comedic timing and style. I'm looking forward to the future for her character.

Adrian LH

Have a good day out tomorrow Seb. Try to ignore the cringe. You know we'll likely enjoy almost anything you do as we adore you for you, you're sexiness and talents. Now you know we'll enjoy it, no need to cringe just enjoy that we'll enjoy , relax or be hyped, but know we got your back so all good

Alex

So I actually like the character of Captain Marvel as played by Bri Larson, but I felt like the stakes were way too low imo. She's so powerful and the villains are not, so like, why should I be invested?

Chris Evans filled intro/outro, cheeky flex for Daddy at the end there, Vlog content, new suit for Endgame, special 1k video- you are spoiling us and excited to see it all! This was my first time watching Captain Marvel and I was kinda surprised how fun it was. Lots of easter eggs and lore to stuff we had already seen which was great as well. I think Captain Marvel is supposed to be one of the most powerful beings in the universe so is difficult I guess to fit her well in the MCU whilst not making most threats trivial. Not too sure how I felt about Carol Danvers though. She felt cool and sarcastic, but also felt a little flat emotionally.

ayden

congrats on 1000 patrons!!!

The only reason I liked this movie is because I new endgame was next :P

btw seb chadwick hadnt passed on the release of this movie!

I think this movie is underrated. Not in the top tier of marvel movies but still decent. One recommendation - Since in reaction videos, talking over dialogue is inevitable, you should DEFINITELY use subtitles when you watch so you can see the words as you're talking... Also, I think perhaps the name you were thinking of when you said "Laurie" you probably thought of Hugh Laurie (the actor from tv show House). This is Jude Law... In Sherlock Holmes among other things

I really enjoyed this movie in the theater, BUT I think part of the problem with the script (and character) is that Carol herself, didn't know who she was, so while we were trying to get to know her, so was she. The combination of this character plot point, along with tons of exposition needed to explain why she was the way she was, gave the movie an overall weird vibe. It wasn't until the twist that the movie started to have a bit of heart and at that point, I felt a change in tone that seemed to have missing up until then. There was almost too much to accomplish in just two hours, to integrate her into the group of Avengers we already know and love. Hoping that The Marvels gives us a bit more reason to care about Carol. But as I said before, I did really enjoy the movie and on it's own, it's a lot of fun! I should add that like Ryan mentions in his comment, I find Bri's comic timing really enjoyable....a bit snarky and almost sarcastic. Love it!

Charlie

Captain Marvel is one of my favorite characters. When she's glowing and her eyes are, that's when she's in her Binary form. She's basically invincible, but she can't stay in that form too long. At least not in the comics. I think they did a really good job with her!

Tori Jeri

Congratulations!! You deserve this!

James Allen

Awwwh man, I hope you get around to watching agents of shield, either in your own time or a reaction series. It's soooo good and such an underrated element to the MCU. Plus, Coulson is King

Chris

Goose the Cat was named after Maverick's best friend from the film Top Gun. Of course we find out he's a "Flerken: an alien creature resembling a cat who can store universes in their mouth and travel instantaneously using their mouth." ( sigh, only in comics lol )

Great reaction make sure you watch the entire credits of Endgame!

Mateo_gk

This movie is very enjoyable, and in my opinion, has some of the better payoff for the rest of the MCU. There are a couple of callbacks to this movie in future MCU installments that I think make this movie get better as time goes on. Great reaction Seb, can’t wait to see that Ant Man and The Wasp intro!!

Benjamin Price

I'm so stoked that you work so hard to put out so much content lol I feel you on being tired. I had just finished an exam for one of my classes after getting off a shift at work and had like zero energy until I saw that you had put out TWO more videos. It was the coolest thing getting to just chill out and watch a movie alongside your reaction after such a long day. I appreciate the time you put in. You definitely set yourself apart from other content creators.

As someone who grew up in the 90’s, I loved that this movie took place during that era but sometimes I felt like they were trying a little -too- hard with the 90’s references. I was surprised that you knew what Blockbuster was. I didn’t know if they had them there in the UK.

Anonymous

It feels odd that our childhood is now like a vintage aesthetic for films 😂 Blockbuster used to be everywhere in the UK, most towns used to have one.

I definitely wasn't watching this just to get to Endgame because I actually really love this movie and what it says about the human condition. I especially love the montage of Carol getting up over and over and what that says about humans; no matter how many times we get knocked down, we always find a way to get back up again and keep fighting. it's such a powerful message and I think it's a running theme in a lot of Marvel films (it's in Spider-Man as well, which I think is why Spidey is one of my favorite superheroes). that scene always gives me chills and I'm glad you caught on to that message. you did a great job with this reaction and really caught on to the spirit of the film, which I think a lot of folks missed when it first came out. you continue to be one of my favorite reactors so thanks for putting out great content, despite being so tired. also, I hope you're taking care of yourself! ❤️

Michael

This is a film that lacks punch of first watch, as you said, its introducing a new character really late into the endgame phase. However, on rewatch with expectations adjusted, its a really great film. I think if it had came out a few years earlier (definitely before infinity war) it would have had much better reception.

Adrian LH

Any wasp - cool intro , great presents. Fun bloopers. How was it meeting a sebscriber in the city?

Adrian LH

Sorry you had bad internet coverage. I know how much you love being present and interacting. Nice you persisted and tried your best. I reckon the premier still went well as you had done the extra effort with the intro and bloopers. Try not to feel bad about today's premier. We still love you heaps!!

“Space choking and space bondage…” Oh Seb, I wonder about the way your mind works

Knights Who Say Sledge

The Skrulls and the Kree are MAJOR elements of the Marvel comics universe - they're maybe the two most significant alien races there. And we're definitely going to get more good stuff from them in the MCU in the future. Carol is indeed OP AF, but that's also true to form in the comics. She was my favorite Marvel character when I was a kid by a long shot. She has grown and evolved over the decades in the comics to become an intergalactic hero who can handle global level threats. Talos is also my favorite character from the film, Ben Mendelsohn, the actor, is a winner in EVERYTHING he does. Goose, the cat/flerkin, is named in the film after one of the characters from Top Gun and the dog fight in this movie between Maria Rambeau and Minn-Erva is maybe more of a tribute to Top Gun than to Star Wars, but also that too, I'm sure. In the comics, the cat/flerkin is named Chewie. The switch for the film makes sense because of how they're foregrounding Carol and Maria as pilots. In a final note, I cannot wait for you to dig into the Disney+ shows!!!! They REALLY deliver the goods. The Netflix shows (minus Iron Fist) are good and Agents of SHIELD is... a mixed bag... and they're not really exactly part of the MCU in the same way, or maybe I should say to the same degree that the Disney+ shows are. So, the Netflix shows and Agents of SHIELD may be worth your time (especially Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage) but FOR SURE the Disney+ shows are a must (they are directly building to the forthcoming films and pull heavily from the movies so far - no spoilers, just sharing). As always, thanks for what you do and for your channel, Seb.

EdgingNothing

I always like watching Captain Marvel but like you said, not as good as other. The depth part was what was lacking but its enjoyable to watch. Also thanks for all the hard work you have been putting in for your patreon channel and most of all, thanks for moving the film so I can see that flex haha. keep up the great work seb

Charlie

There are rumors they are bringing it, or some characters, back! Apparently since it's been on Disney+, it's blown up around the world and is the most popular Marvel show. :) With that being said, I'm hoping to see that version of Ghost Rider and Daisy Johnson come back.

Loved this Reaction video, what separate s Captain Marvel from someone like doctor strange is her character arc. We don't see her grow as a person, realize that she needs to change, understand somethings about who she should be like every other character. We don't even see her lose someone important to her like Cap. Carol Danvers just doesn't have her memory and by the end she remembers stuff. We see her realize that her mentor is evil and we don't get any emotion from her. She doesn't hesitate to attack her old "friends" and mentor when they come face to face. We don't see any heartbreak and we don't journey with her as she finds the strength to do what is right. She just learns the truth and does the right thing. Just a brief conversation with Rambeau(Rambo?) AND on top of the lack of emotion or personal struggle, she becomes God like powerful and doesn't have any struggle to defeat anything once she gets her new power. She stumbles a little bit, but there is no real fight at the end. The stakes are so low because she is so much more powerful than the bad guys. Anyway long story short. It's hard to have any emotional connection because she really didn't have to earn anything, and there are zero stakes because there is no question that she is the most powerful thing in the universe.

I really like this movie. Captain Marvel is a different kind of character. She's a woman who has spent her entire life suppressing any girly emotions to measure up in a man's world so she has a colder demeanor most of the time and deflects everything else with slight humor. It's ingrained in who she is, even when she has forgotten her past. Once she even starts to remember, she doesn't know exactly how to process or express her emotions fully. It would be weird if she suddenly went from poker-face to sobbing, emotional mess. That isn't who she's ever been. I think her path back to her humanity and emotion will be a long one. She has a whole lifetime of personal suppression to undo and that's not gonna happen in one movie. This stunting of emotional expression can be off-putting and I think that's why a lot of people don't like her character. She doesn't have the emotional warmth and depth of other characters but that's the point. She's a product of what she thought she had to be to be just as good as the men. That's what I love about the MCU. Not every character is exactly alike.

A note on Fury's eye. Some people find him losing his eye to a scratch "uncool". In reality, he held one of the most dangerous creatures alive. It has a whole pocket universe inside it's stomach that it can banish you to if it chooses to swallow you. He's lucky he had one is his lap and he Only lost an eye. I find it funny that the truth is so unbelievable that he keeps it a secret and just let's people speculate about how he lost it. It adds to his mystery.

Movie get a half star bump just to the Stan Lee opening credits. It's literally my favorite part of the film, Film is fine, but for Marvel a bit below average. My biggest issue is just that I don't like how they change Carol Danvers (in the comics) from her Ms. Marvel (or Warbord) power levels to that of her Captain Marvel power levels. I just liked how the comics handled the creation of Phoenix far better, or how through practice Scarlet Witch and Invisible girls powers grew to make them the strongest or one of the strongest members of their own team (I hated the cosmic level power upgrade they eventually gave Wanda, that she apparently always had...bullshit). And this is also something the comics have done over the decades to many characters, expand powers, so bigger feats and bigger threats, a couple times of after that incredibly lazy writing. For the movie itself my only real complaint is I hated the alien life form that takes the form of the cat and pretty much every aspect of the story that being is in.

I liked this film, but it's not one of my favourites. I did not love Carol's character as much as that of other MCU heros. She is okay, but it's not the same feeling like I've had for Cap or Black Widow or even Ant-Man when they just immediately clicked. I mean, even secondary characters in Black Panther gained my sympathy much faster. But then again, she is a BIG hero, like universe big, she does feel a bit out of this world so maybe that's good for the character. I don't know, not yet sure about her 🙂

Ebony

He could actually say “I lost it to a tentacled creature from outer space.” And that is 100% true.

Ebony

A creature from outer space that uses its tentacles to swallow whole armies. Badabum

Ebony

This isn’t my favorite MCU film or character, but the “only human” scene and her breaking out, is one of my favorite movie moments ever.

Rob Flynn

After seeing some of the upcoming Marvel plans, I've decided to put my judgement of her character on hold. It looks like they're branching out more into cosmic stuff in addition to multi-verse stuff, and Carol on a cosmic playing field does make more sense.

DracoMint

This was my second time watching this movie, I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I did the first time. It's far from my favorite MCU movie, there's some problems still, but it's not a bad movie at all.

Connor Ellis

"Who the hell calls a cat a goose?" Someone hasn't seen a certain film...

Brett Erix

I only started the MCU a year ago, but watching chronologically, so it appears I'm missing all the "moments". I watched this one 2nd (after Captain America), then went on to Iron Man etc.

Jenni P

That's actually my favorite way to watch them. But I did watch them in release order originally so maybe that's why.

Lucile Byrd

You: "Ronan's Kree, right?" Me: "Congratulations, Seb, you have finally asked a relevant question!" JK, your's is actually my favorite reaction to this movie. It is odd how every person I have seen watch this movie forgets the part the Kree played in Guardians of the Galaxay (and in Agents of Sheild, for those who watched that show) and just assume the Kree are the good guys just because they say they are at the beginning of this movie. And, when people realize that the Kree are the bad guys, they still don't understand the manipulation and brainwashing they did to Carol and just continue to say bash her as a character. At the beginning of the movie reactors agree with Jude's character that "emotions are a distraction and dangerous for a warrior" and every time her humanity/personality started showing she would be lectured or threatened with 1-on1 with their AI dictator. Yet by the end of the movie those same reactors complain that she was such a boring emotionless dull character (uhm reminder, she was brainwashed to have no emotion).
