Seb, in Marvel Comics, people who just have powers do often exist haha. I mean, among the super geniuses, aliens, pretty-much-gods, wizards/sorcerers and rocks that control the universe, people born with powers or witches aren't too much of a stretch. So yes, what is being confirmed here is that Wanda was born with magical abilities, but they were weak. Being exposed to the Mind Stone amplified her considerably.

Love that Hocus Pocus left such an impression that you can recall it’s iconic lines 🤣🤣🤣 But this episode… oh man, did I ugly cry 😅😅😅 I was doing so well too 😒 I survived the “What is grief?” line (LOVED that entire interaction, such a beautiful moment), and my eyes got watery during “I can’t feel you”. What broke me though was four written words: TO GROW OLD IN 💔🥺😭😭😭😭 This episode gave me everything I felt was missing of Wanda and Vision’s relationship in the movies, and it definitely enhances it retroactively. I also loved that they are incorporating more elements from the comics to flesh out Wanda’s character (The Scarlet Witch Name, Chaos Magic)

Wanda and Pietro Maximoff are mutants, Seb, just like the X-Men. The show was also introducing that concept but they didn't do a very good job of it lol. Mutants are born with a mutation in their genes that gives them extraordinary powers. Wanda is a special mutant that was touched by a god and is now super OP. She was given Chaos Magic, which is super powerful. They both always had powers. Wanda was just always stronger. More than even Spider-Man, Wanda is the true embodiment of "with great power comes great responsibility" because she has the greatest power of them all. Reality warpers like Wanda are simply unmatched, even in the comics. She's stronger than Thor, Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau, who is the original Captain Marvel in the comics, by the way. Wanda is by far the strongest character in the MCU. It's not even close. Reality warpers can create entire universes (hence Darcy picked up CMBR), create life and basically do anything. They're honestly terrifying.

from my understanding, wanda had a gene that allowed her to have powers, but like agatha said, the stone amplified those powers. the gene also is what made wanda survive the mind stone unlike the other subjects that they said died

It remains to be seen if the MCU versions of Wanda and Pietro are mutants. But yeah, Wanda is definitely the strongest character.

This was a great episode. I really like that they went pre-1900s for once, opens up for a lot more history. Getting more of Wanda's backstory was great, I think these TV shows are going to be great for getting more backstory on the more minor characters. The scene with Wanda and Vision on the bed was really beautiful. Her creating Vision was a bit of a shock, means she created the kids as well. That's some OP powers. I didn't realise that Scarlet Witch is like some sort of title or being, I just thought it was her super hero name I saw. If Vision can't leave, I wonder if the kids can. I wonder if the newly created Vision is going to be some evil thing now, Vision v Vision action next episode?

This show has not introduced mutants, it's telling us that Wanda was born a witch and she has been using magic all along, which is the reason why the bomb didn't go off, in the comics it has also been established that neither Pietro or Wanda are mutants, they just thought they were mutants. All the mind stone did was boosting the powers she already had in her that would probably have faded away as she didn't practice or learn how to use them. The difference between witches and sorcerers like Doctor Strange aren't that many, but the main difference being that witches are born with some latent magical abilities while sorcerers needs to actually study and learn how to use magic, there's also different types of magic and different ways of casting spells.

Agatha is indeed from the comics and trained Wanda.

"What is grief if not love persevering?" is such a beautiful line. I love how this episode fleshes out some stuff in Wanda's life that perhaps shows have been touched on in some previous movie to tell us more about her. But I don't really have much to say about it, except for a small note below that ended up actually taking a lot of words. For strange comics rights reasons, Marvel couldn't use the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver names until Disney bought Fox. That's why they were always referred to by their actual names, Wanda and Pietro, while fans often called them by their other names. I like that Marvel used that to their advantage by, now that they can use the name, turning the Scarlet Witch name into some kind of legend that Agatha realises refers to Wanda.

Honestly, people went crazy over this episode when it first came out! It was such a fun time to be a Marvel fan. For clarification. Witches/Sorcerers don't work like science-based powers that are given through experiments. You don't "get" magic powers like Captain Marvel or Captain America got theirs. You learn them as mentioned in Doctor Strange. And sometimes people like Wanda are magically gifted. The Mind Stone did amplify the magical inclination that she already had. But it wasn't the origin of her abilities, just the origin of the scale of her abilities. Scarlett Witch has different origins of her powers depending on the comic story. Traditionally, she is a mutant. Meaning, her powers are genetically based like the X-men. But she has also been given magic-only origins which was an interesting take on Scarlet Witch given that she's so heavily tied to the X-men. I know in some stories Scarlet Witch is a mutant whose mutant gene gives her access to Chaos Magic, so she is a mix of both a real witch and a mutant. But I think the reason the MCU chose this magic/infinity stone origin is that Disney/Marvel sold the rights to the X-men to 20th Century Fox several years ago. I grew up watching several X-men animated shows, so I've always associated Wanda with being a mutant. Hopefully, at some point, they can tie her story back to that. But that's just my hope as an X-men fan. Also, yes, Agatha is also from the comics. There's rarely been a super-powered character in the MCU that doesn't have a comic book origin.

In the comics, Wanda and Pietro are the mutant children of Magneto and her technical power is over Probability. She creates Probability Hex's to make guns pointed at her fail, to overcome an obstacle, succeed at anything she attempts. Since it is only manipulating the probability, she doesn't have specific control of each outcome. She may make a gun fail but it could be a variety of possible ways to fail or break. It's rather...Chaotic. 😄 She did stop the missile from going off because after the first one caught her by surprise, she was suddenly scared and hoping to survive...so she did, from anything that might hurt her like the next falling bomb. Then in the MCU, it looks like when she encountered the Mind Stone, she knew of the risk and hoped that she and her brother would survive and that they would be strong enough to fight Anyone that might try to hurt them again. She wanted to be stronger than anyone or anything she could ever possibly imagine and the Mind Stone had enough cosmic power over the mind that it gave her the power to defeat whatever she could imagine by giving her the power to do or create anything she could imagine. Some real Power of the Mind. At least that's how I see it. The show is calling it magic in general because try explaining a probability hex to wider audiences and young children. lol

like everyone said here ^^^ this episode confirmed that Wanda was born with powers, but the mind stone then amplified those powers. also! the kids are real! idk if you remember but Monica said in an earlier episode that everything inside the hex is real, those are Wandas children!

This episode blew my mind when I first saw it. The show is so creative and near-perfect. Nearly a year later and I'm still amazed that they were able to pull of something this ambitious. I'm glad you liked this episode, as it's one of my favorites!

As the MCU progresses you're gonna see vampires, zombies, and witches. Wanda in the MCU IS a witch. but the stone chose her and amplified her power to godly status

just some context from the comics: wanda and pietro are actually mutants and the children of magneto. obviously they haven’t made that a thing in the mcu yet bc when they introduced the twins, x-men was still a fox property i believe. so they (the mcu) were not legally allowed to imply that wanda or pietro were mutants even though it is probably why they were able to survive the mind stone experimentation. now that disney has rights to x-men/mutants again, they retconned her origin in the mcu to make it so that she had abilities (the x-gene) before the mind stone contact. so more mutants with the x-gene like wolverine and storm will start popping up soon.

Kevin

They aren't the children of magneto in the comics anymore either. I recommend reading the Scarlet Witch comic (2015-2017). What the MCU is implying here is that Wanda used her probability hex/chaos magic so that the mind stone would not kill her brother and instead give him powers.

Kevin

thats why the Hydra soap commercial says "find the goddess within" ;)
