hey, I joined specifically for young royals and I really enjoyed your reactions. season 2 please!

LM-Entertainment Australia

you mentioned in this episode i think.. about how simon and willes amazing acting and that you'd think they were in an actual relationship in real life. this may have been mentioned in other posts.. but the show had an "intimacy coordinator" (which is a new thing and probably originated in a nordic country). they describe those scenes as being choreographed down to the second.. about where to put each hand, location of kisses, how the kisses will be played out. it's interesting hearing of their relationship with the intimacy coordinator; they describe going through consent exercises before each scene (ie you can touch me here or there, but cant touch me in x place/s). also a lot of touching each others bodies prior to the scene being shot so that they're comfortable with it. the scenes are simply amazing and i think the chemistry between them probably comes down to their relationship as friends and willingness to make the show the best they can.. as well as the intimacy coordinator having such a large amount of input with the actors and director. you'll notice that omar (simon) and edvin (wille) have that natural chemistry in real life and apparently did from their first casting together. interesting how many parts go on behind the scenes to make those scenes what they are. it also helps that omar has said he feels "safe" with edvin and that they were more free to improvise in those scenes in season 2. they said it was actually hard not to laugh at each other the whole time in season 2 because of the simple fact they'd spent so much time between seasons as friends and getting to know each other. anyway, i've written a novel - but thats a bit of background as to how their chemistry is so amazing.

And we have reached the end of yet another show (for now at least) 😭 Thanks for trusting us with our poll choice and going on this emotional journey with us, even though it was a painful one (there were definitely beautiful moments in it though). I hope everyone else here that watched it for the first time enjoyed it as well. Where to even begin with this finale: SIMON- Kudos to Simon for realizing his self worth, and not wanting to be anyone’s secret. He is right that everything up to that point had been on Wilhelm's terms (Wilhelm pursued him, made the first move during the movie, but then wanted to forget about their first kiss until HE felt comfortable with it. After his brother’s death, he cut Simon off until he realized how much he missed him, while on drugs, and then they were on again). Asking Simon to continue on in secret, after essentially leaving him alone in the spotlight with the sex tape, is asking too much. WILHELM- Tbh, I don’t envy the choice he had to make this episode. He pretty much had to choose between Simon/his happiness/being his authentic self or his family/legacy/country. The stakes are much higher than in “Love, Victor”, so I can’t blame him for the decision he made (nor can I say if it was the right or wrong one 🤷🏻‍♂️). However, me knowing he made that choice willingly giving up his own happiness, shows the power of keeping up appearances to the cultural norm and is even more heartbreaking 💔(especially since no one else, but Simon, previously cared about his happiness). His confrontation with August is one of my favorite scenes this episode (the intensity of the hurt/betrayal in the acting performance was powerful). SIMON & WILHELM: Is it weird that I just want these two characters to be happy (even if not with each other)? As stated before, the stakes are much higher here than in a show like “Love, Victor”, and both characters have been through so much already. So, as much as I would like to have them end up together, I can’t definitively say that “Wilmon” is endgame 😕 Instead I would rather them have a happy ending by being able to live an authentic life (with whomever that may be). ***Would have discussed more characters, but I already got a novel going here 🤣

Jeff Cabrera

“I hope you have a nice Christmas.” Normal response: “Thank you” Me: 💔🥲😭😭😭😭

I do see Simons side and completely understand and agree with where he’s coming from and I think even Wille understands his reasons, but I don’t think Simon can see it from Wille’s point of view, why he did what he did or even understand most of the thoughts behind it. The past like three episodes span what 2-3 weeks, even if it was more time than that, Wille just lost his brother, became crown Prince, he’s still unsure on his sexuality and then add in what the public will think, his parents. It’s a lot to deal with at 16 and he’s shown though out the whole show having issues with anxiety and panic attacks, feeling like he can’t talk to anyone. Which is justified, as all they’ll do is change there opinions to please him and the crown. He’s doing what he’s been taught his entire life to do, the royal family as a whole is more important, he’s been taught that’s it’s not about what he wants. I feel that if Erik was still alive, yes it would still have been a big deal, reputation wise, but it would be more okay for him to come out as queer as he wouldn’t have been the one responsible for continuing the ‘royal bloodline’. In the end he’s protecting himself because he isn’t ready, to come out, to be himself whatever that turns out to be. Simon is, he’s been out the whole show and that’s where I agree with Simon, Wille needs to understand himself before he can be with someone else or it’ll just hurt both of them more.

Wow, this is already a tough episode but it makes it even more emotional seeing you so affected by certain moments, Seb 🥺️ I do love you referring to August as "that prick" the entire episode though 😂 It's so amazing that they made us care so much about these characters in just 6 episodes. The ending does leave you a bit empty but also hopeful of what's to come. Season 2 can't come quick enough because I need my boys back together ASAP 😔

Jordon

Almost feel bad for recommending this now... 😬 But at least we're getting a second season so this isn't the end! Really love your reactions and the fact that you empathise so much and don't try and hide it like some people tend to do, glad I joined your patreon! With Wilhelm and Simon I can definitely see both sides, there's no real "bad guy" between the two (that would be August obvs #fuckaugust). It's more just a case of their different situations not being compatible for each other where they are at now, hopefully that changes for the better in season 2! 🤞 There's plenty of interviews and things too, with both the actors and the creators of the show on Youtube if you need a YR fix before next year! Looking forward to seeing what show you do next, my personal recommendations would be Skam (a Norwegian show that is also popular with people who like YR) and Dark (a real "headache-inducing-in-a-good-way" show). Never really gotten into Anime myself but feel free to have a new tier or whatever makes sense for you! To end on a light note; Fun facts! The names of Simon's fish are based off of the names of Omar's real life band-mates in the band he was in, FO&O. Also, the actor who plays Wilhelm's dad in this show also played Edvin's dad in a previous show of his that started when he was a kid and is still going now (Gåsmamman). And you might have actually seen the actress who plays the Queen before as she was Anakin's mum in Star Wars: Episodes I and II. Sorry for the super long comment, there's a lot to talk about in this show! 😅

This episode had so many heartbreaking moments. Simon and Sara was a heavy argument. The line about no one likes me when I'm me, hits home for me as well. I think a lot of people think that on a smaller or greater degree. Wilhelm's scenes were almost all heavy and his acting was really good. I think he was my favourite character by the end. I was surprised that he didn't end up telling people about his love for Simon, however I think that was more a writer's choice to prolong the drama. Now that he has lied once to the world, he has made it so much harder to ever tell the truth. I think Simon is similar to Benji at the end of Love Victor S1 where they both deserve to not be a secret or something to hide. I'm not sure how Simon will keep that sentiment whilst Wilhelm I guess tries to still pursue him. This series was an interesting one. I think it took me a while to get used to it's style. There were a lot of big dramas threaded together but each scene was really well done and often powerfully acted. I enjoyed seeing Simon and Wilhelm's relationship grow, even if there was a lot of painful moments for them. I liked how every character was flawed in some way and made mistakes or had background issues going on. I really enjoyed it as a show overall, it felt different as well. My thoughts are whirling at the moment so probably forgotten a ton of stuff to say lol. Oh also, Anime tier, sounds good to me.

Finley

I’d definitely wanna see your reaction to shameless US, it’s 11 seasons long with 140 episodes total though. I don’t know if you’d react to a show that long.

Alex

The ending is so frustrating but it's realistic. Him saying "I love you" to Simon and hugging him in front of everyone was a huge thing for him.

Alex

Yes, do an anime tear please, I don't like anime and it's so frustrating when reactors start doing anime

Alex

Please react to Skam season 3! It's so good! It's kinda like Young Royals and Love Victor combined (Skam came first)

Jordy Van T Zand

I loved this show so much. The actors really are amazing! I’d love to see you react to sense8 and Arcane🤓

Kaly

#ffuckAugust First time watching this show and totally loved it i cant wait for s2! The acting also..theyre so good id love to see you react to Elite, Euphoria or maybe Haunting of hill house

Jeff Cabrera

As far as show recommendations, I’m on board with SEX ED S3 (started season 1 in preparation because I know it’ll come eventually…👈🏽 pun intended lol) I’m gonna keep throwing Schitt’s Creek and Netflix’s Daredevil into the universe, even if it’s a long shot. But I trust the recommendations of those on here (I’ve heard good things about SKAM as well, but idk how us in the states would be able to watch it). Not opposed to anime but I’ve heard other reactors mention it’s a nightmare if you decide to put it on YouTube, just FYI.

To my knowledge SKAM never had official translations, so most stuff available online is fansubs and when I watched it they were all on Dailymotion. There is a website that compiles them all.

June

I cried so hard 😭 I didn't even think to watch this when it came out because I thought it was just another mediocre teen drama. But oh boy was I so wrong!! Glad that I watched it for the first time with you.

Philip whyte

Not sure if you have already seen it already, but Elite would be a good show to react to.

Davide

That ending is so painful. And that's not a criticism, it's very well done. The fact that this episode managed to affect me this much means a lot, sadness in fiction rarely does to this extend. I'll write thoughts tomorrow, I can't right now.

SpeedyBrandon

Please Seb, for the love of everything, consider watching Elite :P

Glenn Van Pestel

I just binged all the reactions, and I feel destroyed. What a good series, but I had hoped for a happier ending. Season 2 better come quick

Dwayne Mason

I concur with speedy Brandon and think you would enjoy Elite!! It's such a fun show with a zany bunch of characters

Samuel

This has to be one of the most well done season finales, even though it is really sad and heartbreaing, but yeah, it just proves how well the show did with making you liking these characters - well, aside from August obviously xD The pacing thing I think is very much due to the fact that it's a nordic show, whereas if it was American it would be much more high tempo and and melodramatic for sure. I don't know if you're at all into crime shows, but there are actually a lot of amazing nordic noir crime shows, a recent one to come out of Denmark that has had a lot of success is The Chestnut Man - also only six episodes. Nordic crime shows and British crime shows are fairly alike in mood and pace, so if you ever want to delve into that a bit, I would recommend The Chestnut Man as a starter :)

Samuel

Oh and also, we all like you when you're you ^_^ And to answer your question at the end of the episode: Why we wanted you to watch this? Well, look at your face - that's why :) Misery loves company xD

Gambit

13 Reasons Why or Elite :) Xoxo

Gambit

Sense 8 is also a great series!

Davide

It's been a day since I watched it and it still hurts. And I think it hurts more because both Wilhelm and Simon acted reasonably. I side with Simon, but Wilhelm's reasons also make sense. We wanted them to be together and they didn't, but we don't have anyone to blame. We could blame August, and it would of course be deserving, but he only sped up the inevitable issue of covering up their relationship or not. As for the show as a whole, I love it. It's not a typical teenager romance show, it avoids the usual clichés. The show does an amazing job in saying a lot without saying anything by showing us what characters are feeling in scenes without dialog. And the acting is amazing from everyone, but I want to specifically point out Omar Rudberg, who plays Simon. I'm not saying his acting is better, but it being his acting debut makes it more impressive.

Edwin Wickey

Haunting of Hill House!! Also... #fuckAugust

Jed Knight

I wasn’t sure if I was gonna like this show when it was chosen but I always love your reactions so I watched along. OMG it is so good, the DRAMA! Seb is absolutely right when he says how the lingering stares and the passionate embraces really impact the viewer. Thanks for the pick Seb. Show suggestions: Fleabag The Leftovers Hannibal

I'm so glad you watched this show, it was something that I surprisingly really loved. I would LOVE to see you react to Dark, it's one of my all time favourite shows. It can be a little confusing at times but it is SO worth it!!!

Liam Kershaw-Calvert

Since you loved Young Royals, I think you’d love a book called Red White and Royal Blue. One of my absolute favourites, about the Prince of England falling for the son of the US president! And it has some saucy chapters 👀🤣 but apart from that, it’s still such a good book and has been commissioned for a movie!

alejandro valles

I think another reason why Simon felt so hurt is because Wilhelm told him the day before that he was going to tell the truth and say it was him, and he didn't tell Simon that he changed his mind beforehand. So he felt lied to and I see why he feels like that. I also see Wilhelm's side, but I know for a fact season 2 is going to be filled with drama

Jonnie_No9

I binged this in one night with you for the first time. I had no expectations going into it, but wow it really delivered. I felt like this was a good representation of how romances work at that age. Both characters acted as I think they really would have in that situation. I really loved that Wilhelm didn’t give up on Simon, even though he had to give in to the understandable pressure from the Crown. They clearly still have string feelings for each other - my heart melted when Wilhelm told Simon that he loved him. This is clearly not the end of them. I hope that August gets what’s coming to him. What a really well-written show that really gets you in the feels. It was awesome watching it “with” you and going through that together, as it were. Keep up the great work Seb!

Ida

i literally just binge watched this with you and i'm so stoked that there's going to be a season 2! amazing, as always. it wasn't what i expected either - it was really raw and emotional. watch queer as folk please :)

Clayton Bockman

Loved rewatching this series with Seb. Such a terrific show. Can't wait for season 2. ❤
