Issue 5: New Tactics

Harrison Blackwell smirked as he watched Kara Conway enter the ground floor of his skyscraper and check in with the receptionist. Normally, he enjoyed making the peons wait on the ground floor, so that only after waiting their due time could they ascend and meet him in all the god-like splendour of his executive office on the top floor. But my my, who could resist this woman? She had a bust like Meteor Woman herself, and didn’t seem too afraid of showing it off, even though she was quite visibly pregnant and, according to his secretary’s research, already had a daughter named Dinah. The man licked his lips, wanting to see her in person.

“Hope,” he said to his beautiful Japanese assistant. “Have you completed your security assessment of her?”

Her implant glowed faintly on the side of her head. “Yes, Mr Blackwell. Nothing flagged. Her physiology is Earth-normal as well.”

He narrowed his eyes. “Curious. I almost considered her a candidate for Meteor Woman. She certainly has the cup size for it, does she not? Even if the muscles aren’t quite present.”

“If you say so, sir,” Hope replied, the slightest of pouts upon her lips.

“Come now, dear. A man has his appetites, even for a woman as clearly pregnant as she is. What a specimen. Have we hidden all evidence of our latest . . . visitors?”

He was referring, of course, to the super criminals that had been hired to step up the violence in the Metropole. Not that they knew who was hiring them, only that he was paying well and using his network to pay their bail or frame their situation as ‘brainwashing’ thanks to chips his own shell companies made. Thanks to his secret little ‘pet,’ it wasn’t hard to rotate their powers, either.

“All cleared, sir. No evidence present.’

“Good. Send her up.”

Just a minute late, the elevator doors opened, and Harrison was positioned at his desk, position elevated, his hands clasped together, goatee perfectly groomed, and his many screens all on behind him, displaying the innovations of his industry. It was aimed to impose and impress, but much to his disappointment, Mrs Kara Conway barely seemed to register her incredible surroundings, not even the literal shark tank occupying the left wall nor impressive sculptures taken from over a dozen countries’ cultural heritage museums.

“Mr Blackwell,” she said. “Thank you for agreeing to meet me.”

“Ah, Mrs Kara Conway, your pictures do not do you justice! You are indeed a lovely sight!”

She raised one eyebrow, crossing her arms beneath her very prominent chest as she crossed the room to him - another power move. She was wearing a stylish business suit, one that still managed to conform to her dynamite dimensions. It consisted of a white maternity blouse that pulled tight against her belly, and had the top buttons undone to allow for some much needed breathing space for her utterly delectable cleavage. Her pants were professional trousers, albeit in a maternity fashion that cupped part of the underside of her belly, over which the hem of her shirt flowed. She wore glasses and her hair was in a professional up-do, but there was no hiding her incredible beauty. Certainly, her child was not going to be lacking for milk to judge from the size of the jugs it’d be drinking from, a thought that gave Blackwell some rather aroused amusemet.

And yet they weren’t quite Meteor Woman’s dimensions, another disappointment. He’d truly thought he’d guessed her true identity, but the evidence was not quite matching up. Alas, Hope’s implant could only make so many connective leaps.

“If you don’t mind, I’m going to take a seat,” Kara said. She rubbed her stomach. “I’m just about six months along now, and this little one is pushing up against my lungs.”

And two noticeable breasts were pushing down on them, Harrison mused with a smirk. He gestured for her to take a seat.

“Please, take a seat, and my congratulations. A girl or a boy?”

“I’m leaving it to be a surprise.”

“Ah, I rather detest surprises. In my business, as well as yours, Kara, I find that surprises are most unwelcome. I prefer to have every factor accounted for. Every last one.”

Kara took a breath and stroked her fertile stomach, but her gaze remained on Harrison. “If there were no surprises in my line of work, Mr Blackwell, I’d be out of a job. Can’t have business booming without unexpected burglaries.”

He chuckled. “Indeed, Kara, an excellent point!”

“That’ll be Mrs Conway, thank you.” “If you prefer. Shall we get to business? After all, yours is indeed, as you just said, booming. Hope, throw up the projections for me, will you?”

Hope nodded, and her secret implant whirred out of range of any normal human’s hearing. It was a test, one last one, to see if Kara could indeed be the nemesis he was preparing to totally undo in order to accomplish his dream for the Metropole area, but her face was fairly blank, looking to the screens, which lit up a moment later. Ah well, he considered, she really isn’t the true thing. Such a high-pitched whine would have alerted her super hearing and given her obvious discomfort from its power. There was a reason he was wearing a high-tech earpiece that blocked sound for the two seconds the implant sang.

“As you can see,” he continued flawlessly, pointing to the screens behind them. “The Metropole area continues its descent into becoming a hive of scum and villainy, to borrow an expression from a classic movie. Burglaries are up, unwanted trespasses, domestic incidences, supervillain attacks as well as lower tier henchmen movements, not to mention the high-tech weapons trade on the black market has begun moving in. It all points to horror, Mrs Conway, which is everything that I oppose. We stand on a precipice; do we allow the Metropole to slide further into anarchy, or do we seize the moment to remake it, safer and more civilised? The question can be answered, in part, with your technology.”

Kara’s eyes narrowed. She truly had a fierce stare. It was almost enough to get him to stop looking at that truly delectable line of cleavage on display.

“Tell me more,” she murmured.

***

Kara exited Blackwell Enterprises. As soon as she was out of sight of any security cameras, her calm businesswoman look left her, replaced by that of a mother’s rage.

That fucker. He’s behind this. I just know it. All that grimy talk of civilisation and all that. Sounds like a damn politician. The kind of man who would bomb a maternity clinic just to see his securities stock go up.

She had to force herself to calm down, and remind herself that her mission had been a success. Harrison Blackwell’s attacks on Meteor Woman had stepped up massively. The online social media sphere was on fire with criticism.

‘Meteor Woman fighting while PREGNANT? See Pics for Proof!’

‘Should she lose custody? Star City’s protector puts own baby at risk!’

‘Not even her famous chest can save her from this scandal: brainwashed citizen forced to act as villain has foot severed by Meteor Woman!’

And so on. It didn’t end, and it was targeted as all hell. Not that it was entirely wrong either. Kara had cursed herself again and again for her stupidity in conducting superheroes while pregnant. Ralph hadn’t taken kindly to it either once she’d come fully clean. But there was a difference between her earlier stunts and her having to go all out after her family and people had been attacked. Her blood still boiled, the memory of the broken glass, the cacophony of chaos, her own Riley nearly enveloped in it.

I wanted to kill those fuckers so bad. I nearly did. So what will I do to that bastard Harrison Blackwell?

It was then that the voice of the Meteor, the patron who had bestowed upon Kara her powers, not to mention her very ample female figure, spoke in her mind.

‘Be careful, Kara. These are not the thoughts of a true hero.’

“I know,” she said under her breath. She placed a hand at the small of her back and rubbed her stomach while she walked. “I’m trying, Meteor. I’m fucking trying here, ya gotta believe me. But they hurt my family. They’re hurting the Metropole. And if I’m right, this asshole is doing it just so he can make his ego project.”

‘And if true, it will make him among the worst foes you have ever faced. But I gave you your powers because I saw in you the potential for good. For justice. Because you protect the people around you, not because you fight your enemies.’

Kara sagged a little, took a much-needed breath (God, she was out of breath with this baby, that hadn’t been a lie to Blackwell).

“You’re right. I know you are. I’ll . . . I’m trying, Meteor. I’m really fucking trying. Ya gotta believe me on this one.”

‘I trust you, Kara. Make sure to trust yourself.’

Kara nodded at this. “I’ll try. I’m pretty fuckin’ shaken up after last week. Hell, I was goddamn nervous in that frickin’ meeting. Do you think he suspected?”

‘I do not know humans that well, but it is very rare for you to ask me to remove your powers, even temporarily. Was it such a risk?’

“Oh yeah. I’ve got no doubt that bastard was tricked out with every tool and gadget trying to tell if I was Meteor Woman. I needed to be totally human again, even if it means some serious goddamn shoulder pain. Seriously, how do women with big boobs handle it without superpowers? My upper back is killing me! And that’s not even getting to this belly; can you calm down, little one? You’re kicking up a bloody storm here!”

She really needed to get home so she could restore her powers out of sight. Kara had come to love her figure, and was even starting to appreciate her pregnant figure now that it felt like she was having an actual baby inside of her and all the wonders such a thing meant, but God if it wasn’t a heavy boulder of a weight while she was demoted to regular human status!

Seriously, how do big-chested ladies do it?

***

Kara received another reminder as to why she could start enjoying her pregnancy a little more when she got home. Ralph had put Dinah down for a nap and was continuing his investigations of the so-called ‘Blackwell Conspiracy’ on his laptop, but as soon as she entered his attention shifted.

“Honey? How was it?”

“I’ll tell you in a moment,” his ultra-busty wife said. “But first - Meteor, do your thing! Give me my powers back, please and thank you!”

The power crackled within her, and for a moment she was in that dreamspace, riding upon the Meteor, the voice of her patron flowing through her.

‘Do well, Kara. Stay the course. I know you will find a way to be a hero without threatening the life within you.’

“I will,” she vowed.

But, because this was a regular consequence of such a change, the flash of power left her in her Meteor Woman costume, albeit another new one, much to her surprise! It was a tight maternity outfit, still silver in colour and still a leotard, but stretching over her belly and cupping it from beneath. The long blue cape had become a half-cape, which meant that her expanded rear was displayed much more prominently from the sides and behind, and the same for her childbearing hips as well. Her cleavage window remained, but now had a clasp so she could easily remove one of her colossal breasts in order to breastfeed.

“Woah!” she exclaimed. “Uh, Ralph, I promise this is just an accident. I said I wouldn’t do superheroics and I meant it. I think this just sort of . . . happens when I get my powers back. Seriously, I promised no more action, and . . . Ralph?”

Her husband was slowly rising from his desk, his gaze fixated on her.

“Ralph?”

He strode forwards, his stare almost intimidating. For a moment she was worried that he was angry at her. Ralph was always such a witty go-getter that his darker side practically never came out, but she feared disappointing the man she loved. But then she saw that he was tenting prominently in his pants, and his gaze was practically feasting upon the sight of her gravid superheroic form, her large dome of a belly jutting out. Her own worried expression shifted to a grin, and she struck a post to the side, showing him how big her belly was, not to mention her rear.

“Ah, it’s that kind of reaction, huh?”

“Oh boy, yes,” Ralph said.

Thirty minutes later, they were both panting in bed, Kara having climaxed more times than she could count. As much as she loved being the one in control during sex - that male part of her still remained at times - it was a thrill when her husband took control as he just had.

God, I love it when he has me lay my preggo body back and then fucks me from the side of the bed with my legs spread. Jesus, thank you for making me a woman! Who am I kidding? Thank you, Meteor, for making me a woman. Mhmm, even a super knocked up one.

Her belly rose and fell dramatically, as did her swollen chest, as she lay back against Ralph. She loved this position, especially after a great deal of passion. It also made her giggle as Ralph cupped her boobs and made them bounce, not to mention caressed her rounded stomach.

“She’s moving,” he said.

“Could be a boy,” she reminded him.

“I know, I just like the idea of my family of girls.”

“Me too,” she said. She turned her head to the side to kiss him, and she did so passionately. When she broke away, she looked into her husband’s eyes as he continued to stroke her fertile form. “Do you forgive me?”

“Kara, you’re the love of my life. Of course I forgive you. You saved our family.”

“But I went overboard. And I did superheroes behind your back.”

“And you’ve said sorry. I know this is a huge part of you. I know it must be hard to deny it. Being a hero is who you are. But if I can forgive you for secretly being a man when we were first dating, I can forgive you for this.”

She giggled and gave him a little zap with her laser vision upon his thigh.

“Owie! What was that for?”

“I wasn’t a guy, you little meanie! I was a woman and I turned back into a guy. I’m pretty sure you would have noticed a penis that first night you fucked me.”

“Mhmm, that was a good night.”

“It was indeed.”

“Let’s have more of those.”

She kissed him again. “We will . . . once this dark period is over.”

A seriousness settled over the loving pair. She lay back against her husband, and was reminded that she was quite taller than him, especially in her superheroic form.

“I got the job done,” she said, and filled him in on Blackwell, as well as her suspicions about him.

“Sounds like he really is our man. We’ll know once the City Hall meeting occurs. Are you sure he won’t find the bugs? His people are good.”

Kara smirked. “He was too distracted by my ‘meteors’ during that whole meeting. And I may just be a working class stiff who became a hero, Ralph, but I know security systems, and how to evade them. Burglar, remember?”

“Well, I trust you. City Hall is a different thing though, Kara. Are you sure you’re willing to go through with it?”

She nodded, her expression steely. Her little baby was shifting about inside of her.

That’s my baby. That’s my womb. God, I’ve got a womb with a baby in it. I never would have imagined this four years ago. And yet . . . it’s all that I want. And everything I’ll protect, just like the Meteor said.

“I’m sure. Then it’s up to you.”

“You’re not tempted to do some superheroics?”

She took a deep breath, readying to tell Ralph the other new development she was organising. “We-ell, I’ve got another idea that may just help counter this Blackwell asshole. But it may require you to pretend I’m not your wife so you can interview the outstanding Meteor Woman again. You in?”

Ralph began cupping her large maternal breasts, which caused her to moan sweetly.

“That depends, do you feel up for another round?”

Kara licked her lips, placing her hands on his as he stroked her belly, which rippled with the movements of their baby within.

“God, yes. I swear, your libido is your goddamn superpower, honey.”

She floated into the air and displayed her naked pregnant form before him, turning around to show her lovely curves.

“But this time, I’m riding you. I want you to look at me like I’m a frickin’ goddess.”

Ralph’s expression told her that he was A-OK with that.

***

Bugging City Hall was another job for Kara Conway. They’d needed upgrades to their security for years, and it wasn’t hard to get it done quickly and yet on the sly when she pushed the whole ‘crime is rising’ angle at them. Ironically, it was Blackwell’s own evil schemes that allowed her to easily plant her own security tech that would allow Ralph to sift through the politician talk and find something.

Thank God he’s a reporter, because to a blue collar gal like me, I’d rather shoot myself in the head until my ear starts to ache. Not like I could understand what the fuck was being talked about in all their bureaucratic nonsense talk anyway. I’ll leave that to someone smarter.

But she wasn’t dumb. At least, she wasn’t street dumb. For all her efforts to keep being a superhero, Kara had ignored the obvious: the power of community, and women scorned, and a mother’s rage. The perfect storm existed, of course, in her own Metropole neighbourhood. It was why she was visiting the house of her new friend Marli Mackleson and her wife Leticia. The former’s twin pregnancy looked even larger than before, and because of the heat, her body really showed it: she was wearing a singlet top that failed to cover her stomach, and a pair of baggy sweatpants. Kara was glad for it, because she was sick of wearing fancy maternity wear that Ralph bought for her. She was hewing closer to her working class roots now, which manifested as a simple white tank top and pregnancy jeans with a support band. She almost felt like she needed it.

“Girl, you look amazing!” Marli said, embracing her so that both women had to lean over. Their bellies rubbed against one another anyway.

“You look great too,” Kara said. “I’m glad you weren’t seriously injured, or the babies.”

“You acted quickly!” Marli said, before lowering her voice. “Meteor Woman.”

Kara rolled her eyes. “Just don’t go yelling about it, okay? I’d rather the whole neighbourhood didn’t know.”

“I am sworn to secrecy! But be warned, Letician may ask you to fly over and give our landlord a colossal wedge. That asshole is raising the rent thanks to all this recent violence.”

They entered into Marli’s home, which was a deeply homey apartment with numerous colourful paintings. The woman blushed a little on her dark features.

“My, uh, artistic displays. I get inspired by my social work.”

“They’re lovely . . . I think. Sorry, I don’t have an art brain.”

“You better get one,” another voice said, revealing itself to be Marli’s Asian wife Leticia. “Because Marli’s art will need to feature front-and-centre for these demonstrations. Picketing and demonstrating is an art, Kara. Oh, and I made cookies.”

She held up a plate and Kara took two with no shame whatsoever.

“Pregnant!” she said as an excuse. Leticia just scoffed.

“Oh trust me, I know. Mrs ‘Twins’ here already ate the first batch. Now, would you like to get a seat so we can discuss-”

The doorbell rang, and Marli waddled over to get it. She opened the door, and there was Ice Shard on the other side of it, her hand on her slightly swollen belly. She was a severe looking woman with snow white hair, wearing a pale blue maternity dress.

Jeez, how does she not get noticed? She’s got a stick up her butt just like when she’s out of costume.

“”Uh, hi,” the woman said. “I’m . . . Ice Shard.”

Marli and Leticia introduced themselves, and Kara acknowledged her often judgemental peer.

“I’m not big into sharing my secret identity,” she said bluntly. “Is there a place I can change into my superhero tracksuit?”

Leticia took her to another room, and the pregnant hero returned in her full Ice Shard garb. She looked sceptical, and she and Kara eyed each other off.

“Fine, I was a fucking hypocrite,” she finally said. “But I wasn’t as far along as you.”

I could really laser her right now.

But Kara refrained, and instead smiled and changed the subject, like her husband had taught her was a common reporter’s trick.

“We were both wrong, and we can both make it right,” she said. “That’s why we’re here. In fact, I’m going to be here as Meteor Woman, not Kara. You ready for a show, Marli?”

The excited pregnant woman clapped her hands and squee’d.

“Okay, I call upon the power of the Meteor!”

A thunderclap - Leticia quickly covered the cookies - and she was in her Meteor Woman outfit, maternity style.

“Damn, those boobs,” Marli said. “I seriously want my pregnancy boobs.”

“Impressive,” Leticia noted.

“Yeah, yeah,” Ice Shard said, aware that her own ‘transformation’ had been far less dramatic. “Can we get to the point? What’s this about?”

Kara placed her hands on her back, emphasising her huge stomach. Her silver maternity dress costume was so tight one could literally see her baby kicking against her stomach, making little marks. She winced for a moment; somehow, despite having superstrength and borderline invulnerability, being pregnant always made her go ‘oof!’

“As you can see, I’m pretty damn knocked up right now,” she noted.

“Me too,” Marli.”

“Yeah, and me three,” Ice Shard said. “Which means we can’t exactly fight the local neighbourhood villains. We have to leave it to the Hero Society.”

“And I will,” Meteor Woman said. “And this time I mean it, barring any personal attack on me again.”

Dinah still has nightmares . . .

She gestured to the four of them. “But that doesn’t mean I’m taking this shit lying down. I’ve been so focused on what I can do to save the Metropole area that I’ve been ignoring the obvious: what the people of Metropole can do to save their homes. This chickenshit Blackwell thinks he can just throw his money and his media influence at us and rip us away from the neighbourhood we live in. We know it’s not the best. We know it needs a lick of new paint and better roadwork. We know there are certain alleys you just shouldn’t go down, and we’re not so stupid that we don’t lock the doors at night. Hell, I do it and I’ve got more powers than I know what to do with.”

“Show off,” Marli said with a grin.

“My point is,” Kara said. “I’m a goddam Metropole mom, and I’m fucking furious about this. My kid is with Ralph at the moment because she’s still scared to go to daycare. A daycare that won’t exist if Blackwell gets his way. So it’s time for us to go on the offensive. Leticia, Marli tells me you work in community development, yeah?”

The woman nodded, her expression serious. “It’s how I met Marli. One of those underfunded community sports programs for underprivileged youths. We were at a basketball court.”

“I thought she was a real snack!” Marli exclaimed.

“You think you can mobilise some of your contacts?” Kara asked. “I joined a few marches and demonstrations back in the day before I became a real piece of shit, uh, and then became a lot better again. But I ain’t one for organising them.”

Leticia slowly nodded. “I think I get what you’re saying.”

“Marli, you’re a social worker. I know you’d never spill the beans on your cases or whatever, but is there some way to show the good you and people like you do?”

“Hell yeah, there is.”

“And Ice Shard, I’m not gonna ask your real name and where you live, but can I assume you’re a Metropole girl?”

“Not really,” she said. “But I moved her six months ago. With my partner.”

A silence followed. Wow, Kara thought. She really keeps it all close to the icy vest, huh? Gotta respect it, I guess.

“Okay, I won’t ask further, but you’ve been a Hero Society heroine longer than I have.”

“So?”

“So you know retired heroes and heroines. Other mothers. Ladies with powers on maternity leave or starting families that may have settled here or have family here. Or just have history or helped fight crime here.”

Something like realisation dawned upon Ice Shard’s face. She crossed her arms beneath her chest and there might have even been the slightest trace of a smile upon her cold features. “You’re aiming for a media blitz.”

“David vs Goliath,” Kara said. “My husband says it’s a story that always sells. Get the people moving. Reframe the narrative. Show everyone what’s really going on. Blackwell wants to portray us all as criminals and parasites? Let’s fight him with love.”

“Sappy,” Ice Shard said, at the same time as Marli said, “Awww.”

Kara put up her hands. “Oh, and we’ll fuck him with the long arm of the law, too. Right up his ass.”

The ice-themed heroine did smile, finally. “Now that’s what I’m talking about.”

To Be Continued . . .
