Evelyn is a mean, close-minded girl belonging to a hyper-religious family. Fearing what ‘evil liberal’ college could do to their daughter, her parents decide to send her to a female-only college with a strong Christian charter. But little do any of them know that this particular institute worships the nature of Eve herself, viewing her as a pure sexual creature in tune with nature and other women. And they intend to make all of their students just like her . . .

Part 4: Blissful Ignorance

Evelyn smiled as she talked on the phone with her parents.

“Yes, Daddy. Yes, Mom, I’m having the time of my life here. I really do feel like the Creator meant for me to go to this school. It feels like this is the path the divine has been leading me on, truly.”

“I’m so pleased, sweetie,” her father replied. “We were worried at first. You seemed to balk at it. You talked about being changed and the strange ideas of the curriculum. I looked further into it and could find nothing ungodly, however.”

“Oh, Daddy, you know me! I was just being a woman, all emotions and all that. Isn’t that right, Mom?”

Her mother gave an empty giggle on the other end of the line. “Very true, honey. Your father often has to remind me to be sensible and listen to him.”

“Just as you’ll be listening to a future husband one day!” her father added.

“That’s true, Daddy!” she exclaimed, though she didn’t feel so excited about that anymore. In fact, it was hard to even imagine. Why would she want to marry a man when she was having so much fun without any of them here? Still, she didn’t communicate this; Zuri had spoken to the girls about being cautious with their parents. It was the very reason she was having a phone call with them right now, instead of a video call. She didn’t quite understand why that was necessary - wouldn’t her parents be happy to see her? - but she obeyed nonetheless.

“And are your studies going well? Tell us about your courses.”

She giggled. She had been doing that a lot lately. “Oh, they’re just marvellous. I know I said they were strange, but I think I was just being prejudiced against their views on the Bible. My eyes have been opened to the path a woman should walk. To be honest, Daddy, I think part of me wanted to be a bit sinful on a regular campus. To go to parties and find different people and cavort with sinners.”

“I knew it! I suspected as much, didn’t I, honey?”

“Yes, you did, honey. You said as much.”

“I did say as much. I said, ‘it’s a dangerous world for a young woman. Eve was tempted by the fruit, and so will our gorgeous Evelyn be tempted by the cultural Marxists and devil-worshippers on a public campus.”

Evelyn rolled her eyes at this. Eve was not tempted. She knew that now. Eve had never taken the fruit. That had been Adam, but the men of the world had rewritten the Bible to cover up their shame and blame women for all their woes. That was why she had been so much closer to Lilith. In truth, Eve was not purely the First Woman. They were both the First Woman, and both came to reject Adam after doing their necessary part to birth children into the world. They had been too pure for a man’s vulgarity.

But she said none of this, simply nodded and gave little ‘mm-hmm’s of agreement over the phone. Perhaps it was a good thing she wasn’t on a video call with them, or they might have seen her expressions of disbelief at their mistaken theology. They probably wouldn’t take kindly to the fact that her newest white dress was cut far less modestly now, too. It brought her closer to nature, not that they would understand.

“We’re getting off track,” her father said. “What’s your favourite course, honey?”

“Oh, it has to be Professor Zuri’s course.”

“Professor Zuri? I thought that . . . woman was merely a helper?”

“Oh, she’s much more than that, Daddy. She’s a devotee of Eve, and she is such a Biblical woman. I’ve learned so much about the importance of Genesis and God’s creation through her.”

“I see. Well, that’s good, I suppose. I just thought . . . with her appearance and her unruly hair that she would be . . . not quite what your mother and I would want in a mentor.”

Ah, there it was. Her parents could be so bigoted. But then hadn’t she? Evelyn remembered looking at girls of colour with distaste, viewing them as uncultured, uncivilised, not remotely as a woman should be in God’s eyes. But how foolish that had been! Were Eve and Lilith and Adam not created with the features of all races that would spring from them? Would it not be far more likely that they had gorgeous dark olive skin and curly black hair? The heart of Africa and the regions of Mesopotamia, Zuri taught, were the cradles of civilization, and somewhere in those vast lands was the original Garden of Eden. Did it not make sense that the white-faced, blonde-haired Eve in the portraits of her father’s church was a lie?

“Daddy,” she said. “I promise you, she is amazing. There is nothing shameful about her. Quite the opposite! I want to be more like her. I wish I was more like her. And she is so knowledgeable. She and Professor Bethany are bringing us all so much closer to nature. Each day we meditate and focus on the gardens, and our assessments are not just memorising Bible verses but instead understanding the soul of the Creator and the plan for all of us.”

She tactfully avoided referring to the Creator - to God - as female. She wasn’t even sure if Zuri or Bethany or Dean Grace had even referred to the maker of the universe as such, but in recent weeks since that rapturous moment before the statue of Eve, she had started writing in a personal journal, wrestling with the strange belief that God was not male. That she was female, one who had birthed the universe into existence and thus crafted perfect Eve and her loving partner Lilith. Adam, being male, had been a necessary creation, but sadly flawed, being further removed from God’s innate feminine nature. She knew she was not the only one who thought this: quiet Anna had been bold enough to suggest the same, and Becca, who had recently joined their group as a born-again believer, was even more adamant about it, saying such beliefs in the presence of Zuri. It was telling that the wise professor who was perhaps the real leader of the college did not push back against this suggestion.

“Well, we’re just glad that we were right in sending you there, then,” her father said. “We’re very proud of you, Evelyn. You’re learning how to be a true Christian woman, in this world . . .”

“But not of this world,” she finished with a smile. “Goodbye Daddy! Love you, Mom!”

She said her goodbyes and then lay back on her bed, smiling happily. If only her parents knew how much she was of this world right now. The true world, the Edenic world. Her professors were teaching her to avoid shame of the female body, and embrace the beauty and pleasures of womanhood without guilt. There was no sin, they taught, when it came to self-experimentation and the sharing of love. Such as Eve’s behaviour before consuming the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, thanks to Adam’s manipulations.

A heat started to rise in the new woman’s body just from thinking about it. Evelyn licked her lips. Peyton was out at the cafeteria, which gave her a few minutes to partake in a little innocent fun. Truly innocent, just as the female God intended it. She moved up to her bunk and started to strip out of her little white dress. These days all the girls were wearing them, the hems so high that they exposed half of their thighs, and with a neckline that showed off their plumper cleavage. The material was loose, yet conformed to Evelyn’s new curves. But hadn’t she always had those curves? This lovely olive skin? Of course, she’d always had them. It was normal to possess them.

And so she removed her dress and flung it to the floor, and began to caress herself. Her body was warm, her skin so sensitive. She gasped as she teased her clitoris, rubbing the edges of her vulva where her flesh was most responsive. Evelyn moaned, writhing a little. She started to clutch her breasts, fondling her nipples and cupping her boobs. God, they were bigger than she remembered them being. Lovely full C-cups, a pair of palm-fillers. She wanted them to be bigger. They’d already grown of course - wait, what was she thinking? Breasts didn’t just grow rapidly out of nowhere. She’d been a C-cup for a long time, surely?

“Don’t think about it, Eve. I mean, Evelyn,” she told herself. “Just embrace the Path. Feel her love.”

And she did. God, she did. She fondled and caressed herself, closing her eyes and imagining herself in the Garden of Eden itself, spread among the flowers and crying out as she stirred her loins and played with her breasts. The feeling was marvellous, but she truly wished she could be on the grass right now, or better yet, in the forest where the wild gardens grew. Anna, of all people, had dared to do it just the other day, and claimed it gave her the wildest ecstasy.

“Just imagine,” she told herself. “See it. Like your meditations. Like the slides Zuri showed you.”

She did so, and her imagination bloomed. She was in the wild, the Edenic period before the Great Fall. Eve was before her, the curvaceous beauty with her dark-olive skin and lovely curves, her eyes slightly almond-shaped. Evelyn imagined the First Woman approaching her, lying down with her. Touching her.

“Mhmm,” she moaned, feeling her body more aggressively. She inserted her fingers into herself. She still felt some residual shame at this, and had to remind herself it was no sin. Zuri’s teachings would get her there, she knew. “Ohhhhh. Help m-me. F-feel me. I want your - ahhh! - love!”

Eve was upon her. Or perhaps it was Lilith, with her wilder hair and even darker skin. Or perhaps it was Zuri, the older woman teaching the younger how a woman could please another of her kind. Or maybe it was Peyton, who was looking so much prettier and freer these days, her awkward stutter almost gone entirely. Perhaps it was even Agatha, her makeup still slightly gothic, but her voluptuous body naked, her brown skin against Evelyn’s own.

“Mmhmm! Yessss! F-fuck me!” she cried. “I’m s-so close! I’m - ahhhh!”

She came, her entire body shuddering and shaking the bed. The pleasure was unimaginable, but sadly, as grand as it was, it was still tinged with regret and an atmosphere of wrongness. She gasped, feeling a second and third orgasm hit, but they were not enough. The mixed feelings warred in her mind.

She should experience this for real.

She should never experience this.

It was pure and innocent and lovely.

It was a foul, homosexual sin.

These urges were natural.

These urges were Satanic.

Finally, the pleasure won out, but only barely, but the experience was sadly tinged with a sense of failure. The woman breathed carefully, her chest rising and falling, her breasts aching with the promise of further growth, her other curves as well.

“I’m sorry, Eve,” she said. “I failed you.”

Someone coughed, and she suddenly rose, highly embarrassed to see Peyton having just entered the room. She no doubt had seen that final little exchange, and probably some of the passion too.

“Oh, um, sorry to intrude?” the woman said. She was looking plump in a sexy way lately, her hips broader, her stomach fat now suggestive of womanly fertility rather than unattractive obesity. Evelyn tried not to lick her lips at the sight.

“It’s okay,” Evelyn said, a little shocked at her own lack of reaction. “We shouldn’t be ashamed, even in each other’s presence . . . should we?”

Peyton smiled. “Not at all. It’s the Path of Eve.”

The two women giggled like air-headed women with no knowledge of good or evil within them, and all doubts Evelyn had just experienced were forgotten.

***

Another meditation, another blissful, celestial change. Evelyn wished they could do this more often, but apparently they had to go through enough understanding of the Path of Eve to truly ‘ascend to Edenic glory,’ as Professor Zuri put it, though they mostly called her Sister Zuri these days. Occasionally old, hostile thoughts bubbled up to the front of Evelyn’s mind - disgust at this hippie-like curriculum, revulsion towards some of her fellow women for showing off their bodies like sluts, or simply a sense of superiority for being the most devout among them - but those thoughts always subsided when she meditated before the statue of Eve, whether in a grand prayer circle or as an individual. There, she felt the love of the female Creator, the lack of judgement towards her and any other woman. It brought her peace, pushing away those bad thoughts.

Her body continued to change as the weeks passed. Her hair, formerly straight, now had a lovely gentle wave to it. It was turning black, yet possessed a silky shine even after a full day’s studies, lessons, prayers, and even tending to the garden. Her skin was brown and beautiful, free of blemish but for some cute moles. It was hard to believe she had ever looked upon such a skin tone with aversion, even bigotry. She voiced her thoughts on this privately to Sister Zuri when they walked in the gardens together after another lecture on the true story of Genesis.

“I, um, used to look at black people and didn’t like what I saw,” she said, fidgeting with her fingers as they walked among the bright purple and yellow flowers. “And not just black people like yourself, but hispanics and latinos and Asians; anyone I saw as an immigrant type. God, I’m so ashamed to say it. What was I thinking? But my Daddy and my Mom, they . . . they taught me from a young age who they thought a real Christian should look like. My Daddy used to tense up when this darker-skinned couple - African American - came to our church. He railed in his pulpit until they left, and I was so proud of him! I did the same to a girl who joined our student council two years ago! I made up all sorts of nasty lies about her, and I - I put something in her locker. Something threatening. It was - it was -”

“I know what it was, my child,” Zuri said, placing a gentle hand on Evelyn’s shoulder. “You do not have to say. I had the same done to me when I was a child, and it filled me with anger. My bully looked much like yourself.”

At this, Evelyn performed a sharp intake of breath. Something like anger roiled in her. Was this woman accusing Evelyn of being something? Was she acting somehow superior to her? Here she was, confessing her sins, and this creature dared to . . .

She blinked. What on Earth was she thinking? What a horrible anger to have. She knew where it came from. Dean Grace’s class on the History of Love and Loss had made that clear: anger emerged to cover up guilt, but guilt remained the source. Evelyn swallowed her pride, hard as it was, and nodded at Zuri’s words.

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry for me, be sorry for the poor girl you tormented.”

“I . . . I want to be. But it’s hard. I don’t know why! When I meditate, or study the Path of Eve, I feel this amazing beauty, like the Creator is moving through me. But then these thoughts rise up in me, Zuri. I feel like I’m changing, and sometimes I look at my body and don’t recognise it, but I’ve always looked this way, haven’t I?”

Zuri simply smiled. She knelt down before a beautiful purple flower and cupped it softly, making sure not to break the stem. “Evelyn, we are always changing, but the Path of Eve simply brings more changes than most. It is a change of spirit as much as body. You wish to be like her, don’t you? Like the First Woman?”

Evelyn nodded eagerly, and then knelt with Zuri after the latter gestured for her to do so.

“To walk this path and reach its end, you must tend to your garden, much like we have here. See these roots under the flowers? These are weeds. Think of them like sins, like guilt. We pluck them out, we deal with them, and then we no longer think about them. At first it is arduous work, and it makes us bitter, but the more we remove the weeds, the more our inner beauty shines like these lovely lilies, and we need not indulge in negative feelings. We can simply . . . be.”

“And what happens when all the weeds are gone?” Evelyn asked.

Zuri smiled. “A very good question. Once we have purged the sin, and dealt with our guilt, we become pure. Faultless. The stain of Original Sin is gone when we reach the end of the Path of Eve, and we truly become like the First Woman; devoted to the Creator and with no more knowledge of good and evil, for we have no need of such concepts. We will be vessels of love, compassion, nakedness and virtue, without shame and without fear. And passionate. Deeply passionate. Observe.”

She brushed the flowers aside, giving Evelyn a view beyond into the senior student area. The young woman realised she had never come this far before; the boundaries were one of the only strict rules at the college, and it was forbidden for them to see or interact with the senior years. Now, she finally understood why as she looked upon the small group of Daughters of Eve.

They were all naked. Completely naked. Just like the woman she had seen on her first day here, one she now realised had not been a trick of the light. There must have been at least seven of them, each with different body types and heights and hairstyles, but all of them with the most gorgeous olive-to-brown skin, with some even having much darker tones, bordering on ebony black. Their hair was wavy or curly and free, but apart from two women whose breasts were conveniently covered by said hair, there was not an article of clothing among them. They were relaxing by a stream, with one woman bathing in it, cupping her large breasts as she cleaned herself. Another woman was playing a guitar idly, while the woman behind her weaved flowers into her hair. But most shocking of all were the pair of women on the lush grass making love. They were kissing one another, passionately touching each other, kissing their ample chests and fondling their rondure rears. One woman moaned audibly as her lover used her fingers to please her, and soon their legs were interlocked as they made passionate love. Some giggled and watched, others continued to bathe and play music. To them, this act of lesbian sex, naked in nature, seemed to be the most normal thing in the world. There was no shame in it. None whatsoever.

Evelyn’s vision blurred, and she realised that she was crying. A small part nestled deep within her soul told her to condemn these women, to call them sluts and harlots and traitors to the natural laws of God. But an even larger part of her wanted to join them, to celebrate them, to make love to a woman herself.

“It’s so . . . beautiful,” she whispered.

“It is, isn’t it?” Zuri said. “They have finished walking the Path of Eve. They are perfect, no longer tainted by sin or even knowledge of good and evil. They are like the mythical unicorn; pure and innocent. Can you hear their laughter? See the way they play with one another and make love and relax? Not one of them wishes to step on one another.”

She moved the flowers back, blocking the view of the women. Evelyn realised Zuri was now standing over her, and she looked up at her professor.

“Do you wish to become like that?” Zuri asked.

“M-more than anything,” Evelyn said. “Oh God, more than anything!”

Such blissful ignorance seemed like heaven on earth to the changing woman.
