I decided to get a jar of old-fashioned hard candies, like grandmas everywhere kept in candy dishes in the old days, to enjoy for the holidays. There was a huge variety of shapes and colors among the candies, which were really fun to look at.

The packaging didn’t include any information on what flavor any of them were, but I think I’ve worked most of them out.

Damn, that's the worst set of flavors.

I would add, "What fresh hell is this taste?"

Tell me if I'm reading too much into this, but I don't think you were desperately impressed.

No blood sausage? I think you got conned dude.

I lived in the same neighborhood as a major producer of seasonal ribbon candy through the 90s. When the air became less humid in the autumn, you could smell the sugar and flavorings. It was pleasant. And then that factory turned what was perfectly good sugar into the trash which is ribbon candy. Dishes full of it would appear around Thanksgiving, with endless well meaning offers from friend's relatives. The lemon isn't bad. Ginger and root beer were allright if you knew it was the nostalgic version in the 1960s. Your sacrifice and intact fillings honor your house.

I can’t decide if you got the discounted package or the good stuff…
