You get to decide what's next for the 2024 sheets. There's plenty left on the to-do list, so help me pick what should be at to the top of that list.

"PHB Subclasses" were the clear winner from the previous "What to Transcribe Next" poll. With all of those now done, I'm again coming to you for advice.

This is referring to the 469 magic items from the Dungeon Master Guide, which include all the 368 magic items from the System Reference Document (SRD).

The sheets will stay in beta until all the SRD content is done, of which only the magic items remain.

Another thing that I could focus on next, is getting all the legacy content working in the 2024 sheets. With “legacy content” I’m referring to material from 5e sourcebooks that has not been reprinted for the 2024 rules. For example, the School of Necromancy subclass for the wizard, which appears in the 5e PHB, but not in the 2024 PHB.

As all this content has already been transcribed for the 5e (2014) sheet, it is a matter of determining which should and which shouldn’t be made available for the 2024 sheet, as well as updating some old syntax and removing things that are no longer applicable in the 2024 rules (e.g. ability score increases from race).

This should be a relatively quick process, as the v24 sheet is fully backwards compatible and I have no intentions of rewriting all the content that has already been transcribed.

The 8 subclasses, 18 backgrounds, 34 feats, 19 spells, and 2 magic items from Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn.

The artificer class and its 5 subclasses, 17 backgrounds, 28 feats, 5 species, 1 spell, and 9 magic items from Eberron: Forge of the Artificer.

But beware, the artificer class will miss some essential class features if the sheet doesn't include any magic items.

The 7 subclasses, 4 backgrounds, 11 feats, 4 species, and 2 magic items from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.

Content not mentioned in this poll will come later. Not necessarily after everything in this poll is done, but certainly after whatever wins this poll has been completed.

If you are looking for WotC publications that came out after the 2024 PHB, I can recommend checking out the fan-made add-on scripts using the Community Add-On Script Index. Those add-on scripts should work with the 2024 sheet without issue as it is fully backwards-compatible.

As much as I don't care for artificer, it probably should be next over everything else. Though, given magic items are integral to the artificer...

I feel like the legacy content can make a massive improvement to the 2024 sheet while also being quick. Yes, magic items are probably going to be more desirable for more people, but it will also take a lot longer. And I don't think having the artificer in the sheet is very useful without at least some magic items in there too.

Troy Routley

Magic items, artificer, FR:HoF, Ravenloft. Review legacy after that - I expect the arcane book in September to cover at least some of the legacy subclasses.

Holy Pickle

Wish we could rank them in order!

Iason Skiathitis

As it's quick, the legacy, as a lot of good stuff was not in the 2024 stuff.

Allen McNight

Legacy content. It is a LOT easier to manually enter your five magic items than to try to manually add in your whole Necromancer, etc.

Javier Molina

I notice the app isn't listed.... lol

My vote definitely goes out to Legacy Content. I and my players make quite some character sheets where we use old and new content through each other. It feels appropriate to first have that settlef, before moving on to the newest books like Eberron.

I agree, ranked voting is king. But sadly Patreon doesn't have that option.

This is a very good point that I hadn't properly considered when writing the poll. I have adjusted the text to highlight this issue. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

morepurplemorebetter

Ssshht, don't bring attention to it! But jokes aside, the web-app is still a long while away from being ready to publish. As people are playing 2024 rules right now (me included), I figured getting a working character sheet quickly is more important then getting a better functioning one later. Thus I've suspended working on the web-app until I have at least a stable version of the 2024 sheet ready.

I think both legacy content and magic items are very much viable next candidates and the voting (so far) seems to agree with me. I can see people making a good case for either. Which of those two will win the poll is anyone's guess.

morepurplemorebetter

It is true that the longer I postpone touching the legacy content, the fewer of it I'll have to deal with, so I won't complain if that's how the voting turns out ;)

Javier Molina

*shouts louder* 😂 Jk but that’s for that! Honestly that helps gauge what the timeline is and in turn temper expectations. In that case I look forward to the rapid completion of this weird 2024 stuff yall keep talking about. *shrugs in 2014* 😂 but seriously thanks for all you do. This is literally the only tool I can use when I’m deployed with zero internet and have new players.

JefVL

I don't think it will be "not having to deal with it", rather that details will be different from what's currently an easy copy from the 2014 sheet. The question is: do you want to enter legacy data now and make adjustments to what is there when the content is re-released for 2024 rules, or wait for the re-release and then enter things correctly from the start?

morepurplemorebetter

My approach for transcribing 2024 content is slightly different from how I handled most 2014 material. I'm not using the old code as a base but am starting from scratch instead to ensure internal consistency. And what I want doesn't really matter, as I'm letting the poll make the decision. I' be learned early in that people here are too nice, that when I let my preference shine through, that is what people will vote for.

Thomas Pedersen

I would like classes, subclasses and feats as those are harder to add on the sheet than magic items. :) So any official or partnered content would be awesome (pugilist, heroes of faerun, ravenloft etc). Thanks for all the work. 🥰

Frédéric Daigle

As much as I'd like Magic Items, I think it would make more sens to go with the Legacy material first.

Buckley C

Starting new campaign this evening, and really wish the magic items was ready. (heavy sigh) :) ... Thanks for your efforts. Very much looking forward to the next release.

morepurplemorebetter

You and me both. But there are a lot of magic items, so I'm afraid the next release is unlikely to contain all of them.
