Introducing an easier way to check if short descriptions will fit on the character sheets. As I'm working on transcribing all the content, I've grown tired of having to go back and forth between the two versions of the sheet to see if everything fits on both.
To remedy this, I've created this helper PDF. It contains all the multi-line fields from both sheets which mirror each other while keeping their own formatting. The last page of the PDF has a writing style guide so you can reference the types of things I shorten and abbreviate. Hopefully more of you can benefit from this file when writing your own add-on scripts.
I know you are all waiting patiently for the magic items to be implemented, but sadly there are so many that it is not a fast process and I don't have much to show at the moment.
This helper file will make it easier for me to request assistance from the community, for example with testing magic item short descriptions, but more on that later!
I have updated the attached helper file to now:
Have a version number (currently v1.1.1).
Have buttons do more than just reset the fields, each can:
Reset
Convert to the metric system
Convert to the imperial system
Convert to first person
The conversion from and to metric units is there to check if whatever you are adding doesn't overflow when the sheet is set to metric.
The conversions to first person is very rudimentary, beware to double check its result for grammatical nonsense.
If you want to follow the progress of the magic item transcription, you can check out this Google Sheet. I'll keep it updated as I progress.
All items listed in it have had a first pass, where all the information from the book was added. Next they still require:
Transcribing: writing a short description, adding/correcting their automation.
Checking: double-checking if the short description and the information coptied from the book is correct.
Testing: if they do what they are supposed to do in the sheet's automation.
Some people have expressed that they want to help transcribe magic items in the past, and this is also how it was done for the 5e (2014) magic items. I haven't setup anything to work on this with multiple people, but I could, depending on interest.
If you have experience writing add-on scripts for the MPMB Character Sheets and you would want to help transcribing magic items, let me know in a comment, on Discord, or through my website's contact form.
If there is enough interest from skilled transcribers, I am happy to facilitate a way for you to contribute to this project.
