Hey, Devon here. As you well know I've been working with a few gazan families to raise money for their daily living costs in the genocide. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we've been able to raise the money to register Ahmed and his family for evacuation from Gaza. I truly, truly cannot thank you enough. I hope the wait is short and I'm able to tell you that he's safe in Egypt very soon. Here are three more campaigns from trusted sources. Each of these are for a family that need your help. If you're able to help them out at all, it would mean the world.https://chuffed.org/project/121901-help-mahers-family-with-medical-costshttps://chuffed.org/project/128691-help-my-family-evacuate-gaza-war-zonehttps://chuffed.org/project/130802-help-rashas-family-in-gaza-evacuate-and-live

Mangadex.org has a complete run of Eden. If anyone wants a manga rec I think RuriDragon is fantastic. Also Devon should watch/read Laid Back Camp, might improve the alcove sleeping experience. Demi would fuck up a hiest by killing absolutely the funniest person to kill at just the wrong moment.

The Mad Scientist's toolkit

"How did your egg crack?" God I don't know if I could answer that and it only happened a couple of weeks ago.

not real

I almost made a winter kills joke before they brought it up. Glad i waited

Jimjam

Curses Dev (very affectionately) for making me cry yet again. In all seriousness though, hearing you speak about how you’ll fight for so many people is beautiful and gives me hope.

Jennifer Houghton

Nice shout out for Gareth Dennis' book "How Railways Will Fix The Future" a good read, no previous railway knowledge needed.

Eliza Blackhart

Embarrassed my egg got annihilated by the opening music video from the first video essay Natalie Wynn did post FFS. At least a Sophie song was involved.

Thomas Noriega

I was at the Somerville live show, much love to Nova and the WTYP Boys for a great evening!

GG Allin Dulles

Devon you may have missed probably the best part of watching battle of lake changjin as a native english speaker which is a guy with a British accent talking about how he misses his mother at home in Brooklyn

Cyrus McEnnis

I'm rather firmly of the opinion that my reason for being is to perceive beauty. I had a conscious realisation when I was young that I never wanted to loose the ability to look at a blade of grass and be wonderstruck by how beautiful it is. So if asked the question "Where do you find beauty in this world?", my answer is honestly "In the faces of those i love, in the complex simplicity of a blade of grass".

Foxing Around

Dr Pepper supremacy… why do the Americans gatekeep it

Cyrus McEnnis

Also - using Leverage as a template you need a hitter, hacker, grifter, thief, and mastermind for a heist. Driver would normally be contracted out. So, let's call it 5 roles for the main crew, a contractor for driving, and an ablative Wingrove for narrative tension. Honestly, I'd vote for Liam Anderson for Wingrove. He has the sort of directed aggression the role requires >.>

Ben Nancekivell

Thank you All for answering my question. As well as your courage and solidarity with those who cannot be somewhere safer.

Cyrus McEnnis

There was a post on Patreon calling for them a few weeks back.

Andrew Dunn

I started working at Pepsi about 3 weeks ago. Don't AMA, I'm too new Fun fact: we are owned by the Japanese beverage company Suntory Fun fact: Dr Pepper is a name and a formula, which they sell to either Pepsi or Coca-Cola based on the territory. So we make Dr Pepper at our plant but don't sell it in the major cities where we are based. Here in the US, we have had a Wild Cherry Pepsi since like 1990 something. They recently started carrying zero versions.

Stiltpuppy

Doing society for creative anachronism shit but for 2015

Public Universal Foe

Eden: it's an endless world has a lot of stuff that makes me go "what did the author mean by this" in occasionally very bad ways, but it also has a chapter that is almost explicitly about being transgender and it makes the rocky stuff worth it.

diezelzwerg

No kidding, as a fellow (American) Dr Pepper zero girl it breaks my heart that Abigail's being disenfranchised by my country in a soda fashion:( She deserves better!!!

Lay-Tex-Lips

The biggest downside to the No TV Rule is that it becomes impossible to recommend a lot of Tokusatsu stuff since TV shows are a huge bulk of its output

Ross Nolan

I haven't listened to this yet (I have a very strict routine of listening to this podcast on Wednesdays after lunch while walking on Dun Laoghaire pier because high functioning autism is not just for podcasters) but I do want to say how much I love you three and the work you put into this whether the free episodes, the bonus episodes or these behind the scenes glimpses. Hearing KJB is honestly one of the highlights of my week, every week.

oskar walter

I love that the piece of media that makes me cry on a semi-regular basis is a comedy movie review podcast premised on roasting spy thrillers

An impromptu concert from Bosco Hogan

I'm happy to say I recently read Boys Weekend, it was at my local library. Which means that there is some really cool person working at the library here in central Nebraska.

Matthew Maddock

The film every child should watch if we’re doing an Adolescence - Oh What A Lovely War.

Vilani99

Fuck I should’ve specified historical social structures and worldviews instead of rivet counter shit. Loved all of yours answers, especially Novas

AaronMk91

I save-scummed Disco Elysium and still had a good time. Then I made what I felt was a mistake and immediately started a second replay and found I didn't have the steam, even fully knowing I missed basically the entire Communism vision quest, but I basically blew my energy and have to wait for it to restore. But man, now I am thinking: absent that what then if the Pod was forced to play Cruelty Squad

Heather

I enjoyed hearing you getting to know your local birds as I have recently formed a parasocial relationship with the wood thrush who lives near my workplace

Candy H

"We are not the Great Satan, thank you to America" LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO CAMPEAO DE MUNDOOOOO AMERIKKKA NUMERO UNOOOOO

Victor

The mad joker-laugh that burst out of me when abi said "I can't be trans, cause if I were I would know, right?" Damn, mood.

Saint Muerte

I guess I have to hang up the checkerboard fedora until they answer how they feel about Ska.

The Mad Scientist's toolkit

Some days I still feel like I'm "faking" because it's a very minor change but I also feel like I'm finally becoming who I always wanted to be. I looked up what it feels like to be non-binary and it felt right and I looked up what it feels like to be male and nobody had a satisfying answer so I just said fuck it I'm going to discard the label and do what feels right for me.

Tormentum

Seeing the libs on bluesky again felt like witnessing a thriving population of a species previously thought to be near extinct

Evie K

1: If you need to escape the UK, come to Australia, it's actually pretty good here. 2: I know it sucks but I'm so glad you didn't go to America Nova, was genuinely woried for your saftey a few weeks ago when you mentioned the tour. 3: I was operating an industrial sewing machine when you answered my question and dam near lost a finger 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for answering, made my day!!!

Andrew Dunn

Stormbreaker was about as bad... as a snake Re Abigail not saying exactly what caused her egg to crack- is it not the anecdote from the Sex and the City episode where you ran into an ex and had a torrid night in a hotel and the ex said they were a lesbian for everyone but you and they didn't know why?

Maxwell Dziabis

As a genderfluid Catholic theologian, I wish November well on her journey of “being in as many unwelcome spaces as possible”. If nothing else, at least I am glad she’s here in my neck of the woods for now 👍 (genuinely really appreciated all the historical/theological details and nuance she brought to the Conclave episode, I would have wanted to add literally the same things lol)

Nettle

Nonbinary mother nation rise up

Andrew Dunn

Speaking of simple theory to read, I would suggest Jose Maria Sison's Basic Principles of Marxism Leninism. simple, short, and modern. Written by a Filipino Maoist leader while in jail

BarFly

An interesting found footage movie I encountered recently is 84C MOPIC, a zero budget Vietnam War picture from the point of view of a combat videographer attached to a reconnaissance patrol.

Hubert Grzywacz

You had Ed Zitron on, and you're struggling to find a computer guy? :D

sgthebee

Abigail, a question for you! Do you also get a wry humor from Moby Dick? I read it very much as a workplace comedy, full of camp characters and over-the-top sets (the church decked out like a ship, the Pequod metal AF with all the whale bones, etc). I think I also need a romantic comedy just about Ishmael and Queequeg's romance, because I've reread the first few chapters many times to remind myself that it starts with an "oh no there's only one bed!" situation and ends in marriage.

Jeff

Adult Human Caper

NowhereMan661

I absolutely agree, Moby Dick is hilarious. The audiobook version of it that I listened to had the perfect narrator.

PG

I would say a heist describes a specific type of crime (multi-person team executing a theft that is in some way large-scale) whereas caper is more about describing the tone of the crime story (a bit wacky and humorous)

Tom Gerrish/Apoth

The film to force the schoolkids to watch (and I would make a donation for you to watch) would be Brassed Off because the message of the movie is 'fuck thatcher'.

sgthebee

omg the LibriVox one by Stewart Wills?

heffa

Omgomgomg I WISH they would do the Christopher Lambert Beowulf movie!! That thing was so terrible/funny!

A_GingerIdiot

Chat, to what extent does Rogue One qualify as a heist movie?

Wuppdich

I started to develop the habit of yelling at the TV, after I transitioned. Much to the amusement of my flatmate.

Angel-of-Deadlifts

Relating to Dev! I was just about to come out in my first year at uni. Then my cousin came out in a really bad way while living with my grandad (who was in the early stages of dementia) and the family's reaction stopped me coming out for almost 10 years!

Angel-of-Deadlifts

My mum got me some almodovar DVDs including bad education during my Spanish GCSE. And she was surprised I turned out to be a transsexual

Angel-of-Deadlifts

TMI but I'm listening to this episode waiting in an A&E in Berlin for urgent Urology care because the NHS fucked with my HRT!!

House Chaos

Agreed, but now that Sondheim is dead, Dave Malloy is the only one I can imagine being able to do it right. And for the sake of all that is bright and beautiful, keep Pasek and Paul away from it. They're the Benioff and Weiss of musical theatre.

House Chaos

You're also always welcome in the Netherlands if all else goes tits-up!

House Chaos

I agree but also TOO SOON T_T

Andrew Dunn

Ooh, they can react to the 3-episode heist arc in Andor season 1

Oror

If someday Abigail is doing some LA shit and can't record then you two NEED to do a Disco Elysium episode. It would give me back years of life expectancy.

Jermy

Dr Pepper Zero Strawberries and Cream is where it’s at. I can’t get enough. I’m gonna have to calculate an inflation stop point because it is a significant part of my grocery bill

Alma Blue

The story Dev told about their mother's reaction to nonbinary questioning is beat for beat a story I've heard people tell about trying to tell their parents they might be autistic sooo many times

Athena Von Tharsis

Re. The naming thing, I chose the NATO phonetic for the initial letter of my dead name twenty odd years ago when I needed a name at short notice. Changed post pandemic and assumed this legend, cos I felt Juliet had been on the line far beyond her breaking point n done an outstanding job holding out, but needed to be relieved and replaced by a fresher, still stronger aspect of myself. Which was timely in light of recent developments. I remain committed to TERF island too, will brook no retreat or surrender, and thank every person who is of the same opinion.

Kaeczar

Spun the NATO phonetic alphabet list and my name is now Quebec. Pray for me.

Alexandra Mitterer

I feel the "everybody feels like that" from Dev's mother so much :') Things I said that my mom has responded to with "everybody feels like that/does that": -"I liked looking at other girls in school" -"I can't concentrate when I'm not under pressure" -"I can't look people in the eye for more than a second" -"I feel the same towards my best friends as I do toward potential partners" -"I don't really identify with femininity or femaleness"

meg

in the same vein of the goldeneye game bonus, would love a disco elysium bonus. just vibing on the themes.

Fiona

Movie based in 2019? Set in Sydney starting around July/August when the fires started. Sydney had days engulfed in bushfire smoke, extreme fire events, Covid 19, etc. Then you had other states moving from fires to floods. Good times 🤩
