Hey guys, hope everything is well in the world. I don't even really know where to begin with the blog this week so apologies if it's a bit all over the place.

POST YOUR QUESTIONS/TOPICS for the November Podcast below! Still more time and I have only seen 1 or 2 so far so go wild, need something to talk about!

---------------------------------------

Let me just vent really quick) I've made it really clear over the last few months that I'm not interested in posting the dirty laundry of my personal life out to the public and nothing has changed there. However I do feel like I owe it to all of you here, supporting the channel monetarily through all of my own ups and downs.
Without getting too graphic into the detail, my living conditions went to shit in August. More to do with people than anything else. I'm basically stuck in a tight spot with who I'm living with, given they never leave the house (and people think I'm bad for that) making it impossible to film and work freely like I'm used to 90% of the time. And on top of that, it's just an incredibly toxic and suffocating environment now.

I would go elsewhere but that's just unrealistic, even gave it a try at the beginning of September when I lost a week of production time on Hawktober, but that was somehow worse. The biggest part of this that messes with my head, is that I just can't see an end in sight, which is scary to think about. It's scary because this is affecting my ability to work on content, the content that keeps me on a good path mentally. So long story short: I'm in a position where it's becoming more and more difficult to do the things that keep me sane. So for the next couple of months, I really have no idea how content is going to operate. I am able to still do some filming here and there but all of this makes it incredibly difficult to get out of bed some mornings, let alone have the focus and strength to feel creative or productive enough to do anything.

At the end of the day, just know that I really appreciate the support from all of you as it really does help me out so much and allow me to keep doing this and stay sane. I'm just tired at this point. Living with this is extremely exhausting and I hope that soon rather than later, I can figure something out to get back onto a more positive path and make things better. 🙂

ALRIGHT ENOUGH OF THAT SAD SHIT!

Goals for 2020) I'm thinking a lot about next year obviously, given I'm more than ready for this year to take a bullet and be done already. So here is what is on my mind! Some of these are channel related, others more personal.

  • Finish Ty the Tasmanian Tiger series before 2020 (we'll see what happens)
  • Complete another Every Level Ranked episode
  • Get some ink
  • M O V E O U T 😅
  • Return to Skylanders reviews for Trap Team, Superchargers and Imaginators
  • Medievil 4 Part series (First Game Revisit, sequel, Resurrection & Remake)
  • Start on weight loss stuff again, for myself first and foremost
  • Cover the classic 2D Mario Games and begin that series
  • New bunch of random games for testing episodes
  • Hopefully... some International travel !!!

I inherited some money back in 2018 and it's sitting there, waiting for an international trip to both see the sights, visit friends and make content. I'm just deciding where to go first, how far I can stretch the dollars to get the most out of it and the best time of year to do things. But obviously my 2 biggest targets are US for cons, sightseeing and the UK for meeting up with friends and making videos. So if you're from either of those places, let me know the best gaming events or other sights to see!

I'm also hoping to start doing some additional work on the side. I'm currently doing a logo commission for a channel I'm a massive fan of and have been for a while now. The goal would be to try and make that a semi-regular gig, possibly with 1 or 2 others on top of that, as an additional revenue stream towards... M O V I N G O U T!

---------------------------------------

Closing Thoughts) So that's where I'm at right now, just trying to push through and get 2019 finished, with the aspirations of a much needed change for a better 2020. Thank you all so much for your incredible patience and hopefully, I can get you some closure to the Ty saga in time for Christmas! Don't forget to leave some Questions/Topics to discuss in the November podcast with a comments below! Thanks for reading and as always, hope you have a great fucking day. Cheers guys! 😁

Keep pushing Jak, I’m sorry to hear things aren’t great right now. You’ve given me entertainment when i was in hard times so I hope my and others support gives you motivation. Take care

I’m so sorry you’re going through this kind of shit hope you get it sorted soon. Hyped for your 2020 plans! I’m currently playing through the Medievil remake and I was actually interested to hear your thoughts on it so I’m excited for the video next year. 😊 Btw Manchester Comic Con or just Manchester in general please for your travels 😛

SquareEyedJak

Thanks! I played one level of it at PAX this year and it looked great, was going to have those 4 videos this month but NO WAY was that going to work. And thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind!

Hey Jak. Maybe some higher tiers for Patreon could help. I have up to $60 patron tiers on my patreon, and people support on those levels. It's really awesome because they help me make a living and help me make games as a full time job. I'm not sure what you could give out for higher tiers, but I feel like people would go for them. I know I would change over at some point. Anyway, it's really up to you man, but trust me, it's a huge help. Maybe you could create a discord server and only give access to $10 or higher patrons. Just some suggestions. :)

SquareEyedJak

I've thought about it but I really don't know what I could offer that wouldn't take away precious time from primary projects. I'd like to get a $10 or $20 tier at some point but even then, absolutely no idea what I could offer.

Dream Mix

I think a Discord server or something along those lines could really help. Just some way to hang out in a group and talk about the videos would be awesome. I could help you out with that if you needed. For an even higher tier, it could literally be something like "help me make content" or "help me survive". You're doing a lot of work for it to all be for free. I know there are people out there that would take that. I don't think it would come off as desperate either.

SquareEyedJak

I've tossed the Discord idea around for so long now but I'm pretty reluctant as I hate using Discord that way personally, and I'd hate to be inactive in my own group. 😅 If I had something of value to offer on those higher tiers, I'd definitely consider it. But at this stage, I just don't have anything. Hard enough getting things done in time for Early Access as it is with certain projects.

I feel you, Jak. This year hasn't been a good year for me either, but I won't get into details here. I do hope you can get a place of your own in the future. I may not be in the UK, but I do know CoxCon is always a big one that some of my British friendos attend. I wish you would visit Texas one of these days, but you don't have to. Either way, I hope you have a great fucking day, and until next year! Cheers!

Jak, only you know what your comfort zone is remember that. Have a really good think and maybe write down a list of the pros and cons to weigh down your options better. Also, good job for managing to push work out anyway despite you feeling on edge and anxious. International travel sounds like a great idea as I live in the UK myself, there is this arcade club in Bury, Manchester which is really good three floors (second floor more VR stuff, rhythm based games, Japanese style and third floor is more retro style arcade games only £16 for adults and is worth the money). Anyway, if it isn't too much an hassle you could also arrange to visit people's homes to play games with or if you have Skype you could organise either 1:1 or group sessions with people so we have easier means of contact than PAX AUS. Just because you have a list of goals for next year, don't plan that you are definitely going to do them as you have done this year, you have done far too much for your capability. If you ever want to have a break from YouTube or not want to do it full time anymore like you thought a few years back, then an update video would help the community to understand. Keep us updated mate about you're getting on and maybe mention this kind of stuff in the podcast to further grasp everyone's comments. Anyway hope you have a great fucking day!

SexyPancake

Hey Jak are you planning to do any more specials like Hawktober next year or are you just going to stick to more randomised and regular reviews?

RadioTails

Which part of the UK are you think of visiting Jak? Cambridge does have a Computer Museum (http://www.computinghistory.org.uk/) and that's about it. Not much fun living in East of England. :( As for Video Game Cons, the Video Game related ones are the Play Expos in Blackpool and Manchester. Both deal with retro and new games, like PAX. One that is a bit closer where I live is Retro Revival that is located in Wolverhampton. Ignore the fact the area is bit crap, the events are amazing. It's mainly a retro event, and there are free tournament sign-ups! Plus retro games to buy! Looking forward to the next one! :D For events that are more like Comic-Con, we have MCM Expo. Birmingham and London and the closest ones to me. They aren't bad, and I did find a boxed Alex Kidd in Shinobi World for the Master System. My friend was very jelly. :P In Doncaster, they sometimes do a Video Game Market. Only been once, but it was stalls full of retro games (prices were hit and miss). The best part was there is a road called "Backside Lane". XD Lincoln does have a retro shop called Gotham Games (best name ever). Have gotten some great games and deals from there. Plus there is a café called Thomas2 (again, best name) which serves the best cupcakes. London is shit. I have been so many times, it's still shit. Although If you have never been, it's worth going. It's still shit. :P Now I want some Kangaroo. They do serve them in the UK, right?

SquareEyedJak

I’ll keep all this in mind, thanks. I’ll be in a few places looking about and visiting different people. I saw Birmingham in that wall somewhere so whatever that was could definitely be an option. :)
