G'day goofs, hope you've all been well. Sorry I've been a little slow. Hawktober has taken priority but now with that almost finished, I'm finally catching up on everything. The Goof Troop episode is one I wish had performed better, it's a simple video without a whole lot to say so let's go through it shall we!

-----------------------------------------

How did this episode come to be?
Since I was very little, my cousins had a Super NES with this game, we played it a lot but I was too young to really understand and we never made it very far. I wanted to cover it for the longest time merely as an excuse to play through so about 10 months ago during my semi-homeless phase, my boyfriend and I decided to play through it one afternoon for some fun and I was really keen to start working on the video after that.

Research & writing!
In preparation, together we also watched A Goofy Movie but I decided to track down the actual TV show for comparison as it was before my time. Loving the movie, I was quite curious to see what the show had to offer and I was surprised to find myself enjoying it quite a lot. Some episodes are hit and miss like any cartoon but the hits were phenomenal. Def can recommend seeking it out if you're interested!

Writing the episode, I really wanted to convey both the chaos of a co-operative game as we had a good laugh playing through which setup many of the jokes in the episode. But I also wanted to include what it felt like playing as a kid to tap into that nostalgic element from my youth. I was always the one tricked into doing the hard work digging holes to look for treasure for example which was a fun bit to include. The game didn't have a whole lot to really dive deep into so I really tried to lean on these elements to structure the video around more live action gags. The idea of having the Goofy plush present as the second character was a last minute addition. We found that while shopping during our move into the house and it sits on a shelf in the bedroom. One morning I woke up and was just staring at him when the idea arrived that he could be my player 2. Initially I was thinking I'd clone myself in or maybe even have Donnie present in the video but I think the idea of me playing a game with a toy doll is just kinda funny. Calls back to the character having a few screws loose too. 😁

It also allowed for segues and interaction which is vital to convey the multiplayer experience!

Technical problems:
Unfortunately the entire video was plagued with some major malfunctions from the very beginning. Prior to playing through the game, I'd had a hard drive corrupt so I was capturing gameplay to a different drive than normal. I'm going to assume the write speed wasn't strong enough as the latter parts of the game were heavily corrupted and unusable. I was able to make the most of it but specifically the final 2 boss fights had to be stitched together with some additional downloaded footage.

Then while filming the episode, my old camera which was on it's last legs for the better part of 3 years finally died a slow blurry death. This resulted in having to re-film majority of the on camera segments for the video. Pain in the ass but it was the sign I finally needed to upgrade my equipment so I'm happy about that at least.

Finishing touches!
Oddly I decided to remake both logos from the game cover and the TV show, even knowing that I was only going to use the one. They were both so simple to make within 10 minutes so it was no drama. I do like the pastel colours of the TV show version but the Indiana Jones style popped so much more!

-------------------------------------------

That's a WRAP!
Well guys, short and sweet! Was nice to just be able to do a basic episode like this and smash it out within a week, especially coming off of Hulk 2003. Sadly like I mentioned at the top, it has severely underperformed but oh well. Just one more back catalogue of content. A hidden gem just like the game!

Anyway thanks so much for reading and stay tuned for more Behind the Scenes posts coming down the pipeline real soon with Destruction Derby and Hawktober!

Have a great fucking day guys, cheers! 👍
