YouTube 101: DON'T FILM AT NIGHT (Blog) (Patreon)
Content
What Worked) Our first locations were totally fine. It's really fun crawling around in bushes and running along the side of a busy road... at night... in FULL costume... there were a lot of lookers, that's for sure. The problem was that once people were in the area on foot, we couldn't exactly film.
A- Because you can hear them talking
B- At this point, we were trying to remain hidden. So a single word out of us would have made these random strangers come over. The last thing you want on a Friday night here as there is really only one type of person out on the streets. It's been a while but I wasn't keen on running for my fucking life with a bunch of camera gear. So we went back to a safer area...
What DIDN'T Work) It seems our safer area, while a lot easier to film in was maybe too easy. The LCD screen on the camera would show a pitch black background, PERFECT for night time shooting as you could be in your backyard (literally where we retreated to) and nobody would notice... except upon reviewing the footage, it looks like I'm standing in my yard, the dead give away being a fence all the way around us. While there are some salvageable shots among them that still require layers of masks etc. to hide things, a lot of it will have to be redone. It's something I really didn't want to happen.
Since I got my PS4, I've been making time for myself to play it of a night, even for just an hour to wind down after a long day of editing, scripting writing or filming. But now, 2 days in a row, it's a full day of editing and a long night of shooting this Sly 3 review. You have no idea how happy I am it's the last one.
So there you go, this week's blog/BTS stuff. I hope you got something out of that, I don't really know. But regardless, thanks for reading and I hope you have a great fucking day!
