A cosy autumn/fall woodland scene - perfect for this season! This is a fun and simple painting that uses lots of different techniques (layering, sponge, brushes, textures), so it's a great project to practice different painting skills.

Supplies used:

  • Liquitex acrylic paints - titanium white, phthalo green, naples yellow, yellow oxide, red oxide, burnt umber, mars black, primary yellow/cadmium medium yellow, cadmium orange

  • Paintbrushes - large wide flat, small/medium filbert, small pointed

  • Sponge & paper towel for different textures

  • I painted this in my 8"x8" sketchbook, but any size canvas will work. If you are working on a larger canvas you may need to use slightly larger brushes, especially for leaf details etc.

I hope you like it πŸ‚

What paper weight do you use? I’m so heavy on my acrylics that I tend to saturate my pages too much

Ah yes I'm the same, I have to try to remember not to use as much when working on paper. My sketchbook pages are 200gsm, but they do go a bit wrinkled, especially if I use too much water. A few things really help though - Taping the edges down so that it stays flat, waiting for it to dry between each layer. Also if I am painting a full page like this one I usually add a layer of gesso before painting and I think that helps it be able to take more paint too! 😊

Thank you! I never thought to use gesso on my sketch book!
