Hey everyone, here's early access to our newest episode on The Freshman! Sorry for the delay between episodes, summer is just usually a hectic time for us to record, but we're happy to be back and very thankful for your patience and support!

Being that Ryan picked BASEketball, I chose this favorite from my childhood for us to discuss on the show. It was directed by Andrew Bergman and stars Matthew Broderick as a college freshman who gets involved with a mobster played my Marlon Brando, essentially recreating his role from The Godfather.

On our Patreon follow-up, we'll be discussing more of Bergman's work - in particular Fletch. We hope you enjoy this episode! Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

I wish this movie had Clark do more jobs for Marlon Brando and the jobs got more and more strange.

Luke Gordnier

Also I hope you guys talk about the scout

Luke Gordnier

Agree with you Ryan Election is awesome! Rewatched it this year

Luke Gordnier

Ryan I’m curious which was better the ref or the freshman?

Ryan Lancello

Maybe The Ref. MAYBE. Its tough…

Luke Gordnier

Thank you for shitting on Seth Rogan, I can’t fucking stand him anymore.

I almost bought that mill creek vhs Blu-ray to watch the movie but then I found a dvd at a library. I actually have the last action hero Blu-ray they put out but I didn’t get the cool vhs case that was promised.

For thr record, Ryan, being staunchly against someone's entire way of life while also defending their right to live it is NOT a fringe political opinion and should never be considered so. I feel exactly the same way you do and once upon a time it seemed to me that most Americans did, too.

Lux Anatis

Between Seth Rogen, Tim Heidecker, and Jim Carey, Ryan Lancello is the king of shitting on people I used to like.

Joe you said Sedan DeVille like you never even heard of a DeVille before, sure it's one of those odd Downsized Devilles when they lost what Fullsize meant, causing us to be in the SUV full present we're in today, (Thanks Toyota, you fooled people into thinking a fullsize sedan was too dumb, and then you upsized trucks into the size we're in today) but it's a DeVille, you know about it, it's one of those icon names in the car industry, it's up there with the Ford Model T, Corvette, Charger, Mustang, Trans Am, Thunderbird, Land Rover, Blazer, Bronco and Supra

I actually just watched Sin City a couple of nights ago, god the movie looks weird, fully shot on Green Screen, and look I get it, Black and White is a bit of a ball ach to work with, especially if you want it to be dark, but did you really had to CGI anytime the car is moving, you couldn't just take a pic of the roof of it and have it digitally move, also all of the old cars, now I'm a car guy, and I get this is suppose to be out of time, is it the 1960s, is it the 1990s, is it etc etc, but in one scene they have a T Bird as a "Big Car with a Big Engine." My dude you had a 1959 Cadillac, you two aren't car people, but back in the 1950s back when they had Cadillacs as Ambulances, they did this because they were big enough to fit a full body laying down while having space to spare, and because they had really powerful engines to lay the hammer down, so he used a cheap T bird that I doubt you can fit 5 bodies in the back of, they couldn't even just gave him a old wagon

Sidetracks

He’s the king of shitting on people in general

Steven Trotter

Tim Heidecker is just an insufferable little slug, he's got a serious case of the LA brainrot which has made him smug beyond belief. Helping to get Million Dollar Extreme and Sam Hyde cancelled off Adult Swim was the final straw for me

Trump completely destroyed him. It's such a shame because I consider him the funniest man alive. On Cinema, moreover the character he plays there, was for years the best thing going in comedy. Seeing him make all the same old jokes everyone else was doing and then turning into a Twitter pundit was such a disappointment. Though, it was partially responsible for inspiring me to abandon social media, so I'm grateful for that at least. And no I'm not a conservative and I didn't vote for Trump. I'm just a big fan of comedy, which as far as I can tell no longer exists.

Trembling Colors

On The Waterfront I found to be extremely overrated too. I find Brando in general to be overrated but he's entertaining.

Trembling Colors

I agree about Godfather 2. I think the first one told us everything we needed to know about Michael.

Glad you guys are back. I love the movie catch-ups, with the tv talk to. If you guys ever get the time or if the patreon becomes more profitable, do those more often. Thanks!

Thanks for another interesting and funny episode. The Freshman (on DVD) is one of those movies that’s been in the collection for years, but never got around to actually watching. Sounds like I can hold off for a few more years. Fletch is so great. That should be a fun conversation to record. For other suggestions: Christopher Guest movies were briefly mentioned. How about For Your Consideration (2006)? That one kind of came and went. And, I think we need another full episode exploring a De Palma flick.
