From Gary black for balance Some people here argue WS doesn’t get the $TSLA robotaxi opportunity. I don’t think it’s that - WS wants proof that FSD will get to unsupervised autonomy in the near future after 5 years of promises that Teslas will soon drive themselves. IMO TSLA needs to get close to GOOG and BIDU’s autonomy efficacy of 30,000 miles between interventions (FSD 12.5x currently 360 miles per critical disengagement per crowd sourced Teslafsdtracker.com) for WS to start believing. Supervised FSD is likely already in the $TSLA stock price. If TSLA can’t achieve unsupervised FSD with 99.99% efficacy in the next ~24 months, the market’s view is that others (e.g., $GOOG, $BIDU, $MBLY) who already operate geofenced unsupervised autonomy solutions, will develop the robotaxi market ahead of TSLA. From a regulatory standpoint, TSLA management would likely admit they can’t just push a button and turn on autonomy for their entire fleet at once: There needs to be infrastructure in place for setup, monitoring, and recovery to secure robotaxi deployment licenses. The unsupervised ride hailing market is huge and open for several competitors to capture share. TSLA needs to get an unsupervised robotaxi product to market before Uber and Lyft launch unsupervised ride hailing options on their existing platforms with TSLA competitors’ robotaxi offerings over the next 24 months.
