Content
My new segment - top rules to live by. Let's see if I can share one a day for 300 days. Here goes #7.
The Importance of Allocations in Investment Strategy
Allocations are the cornerstone of a successful investment strategy. They serve as a critical tool for balancing risk and reward, ensuring that your portfolio remains resilient in the face of market volatility. Despite repeated warnings and guidelines, many investors often disregard allocation rules, potentially jeopardizing their financial well-being ie blow their accounts up. And Even very wise experts do this all the time...... pls pls always mge risk.
Risk Management Through Allocation
Proper allocation involves categorizing investments based on their risk profiles. For instance, while Bitcoin and Tesla may be considered relatively safe over the long term, short term they are volatile but yet safe. Other assets like MicroStrategy, Bitcoin miners, NVDA, Solana, Alibaba, Sea Limited, and Enphase carry higher risks. By carefully distributing investments across these categories, investors can better manage their exposure to potential losses while still positioning themselves for growth.
Transparency and Regular Portfolio Updates
The reason I share my portfolio allocations every week is a valuable practice for both personal accountability and educational purposes. It allows investors to track changes over time and provides insight into how experienced investors manage their assets in response to market conditions.
Key Takeaways:
Allocation is crucial: Properly distributing investments across different assets is fundamental to balancing risk and reward in your portfolio.
Adhere to allocation rules: Consistently following predetermined allocation guidelines helps protect your investments, even if it means resisting the temptation to overexpose yourself to potentially lucrative opportunities. Eg Never loan out more than 10% of your bitcoin - my rule since inception, never pick up pennies infront of a steamroller, never more than 5% in miners, never more than 1% in a perp etc.
GreeD Kills: Don't be tempted to get rich quick. Get rich slowly and safely.
