Fascinating chart floating around X. Some like to know where they rank or stand. I know I do. Always have.

For example if you want to be in the top 10% and you are age 45 to 49, you need a net worth of about 1.4M. This nearly doubles if you are 5 years old.

Some interesting findings

  • The amount of money you need to be in the top 10% (90th percentile) grows a lot as you get older.

  • Wealthiest group in top 1% are aged 65-69 and worth $22M

  • After age 50, the growth in net worth slows down.

  • 2021 appears to be the year of highest income across most percentiles. This was also the period of most money printing due to Covid. No coincidence.

  • Top 1% and 0.1% made the most of their money, in the years 1990 to 2021.

  • Sadly, the gap between top earners and the rest has widened significantly over time.

I’ve never met a college student with 10k, net. Maybe 10k in their pocket, and 80k in student debt.

What is the source for this data?

Nowadays I prefer to look at "liquid net worth" or "investable net worth" to get rid of things like primary residence and have a cleaner number

American’s have a lot more money than the rest of the world based on this chart. In all the brackets. And they are worried. They can essentially move anywhere else in the world and be in the top 10%.

Republicans clearly love the wealth gap. Their decades long push for permanent tax cuts for the ultra wealthy has been a proven driving catalyst of this problem. No Democrat spending bill can hold a candle to the damage Rebulican policy has done to the middle and lower classes. They use propaganda to blur the lines between the marginal taxes for the wealthy and the taxes an average person would pay. We must remember, the US had the least wealth inequality when the ultra wealthy had a marginal tax rate of 90%.

I wonder if that may be an indication that people are going to work immediately after high school versus going to a university.

These numbers seem high to me here is what grog says and they are not even close. This is from the Fed Reserve 2022 survey which seems to be the most recent.Average and Median Net Worth by Age Group (2022, U.S. Households):Under 35 years:Average: $183,500 Median: $39,040 35–44 years:Average: $549,600 Median: $135,300 45–54 years:Average: $975,800 Median: $246,700 55–64 years:Average: $1,566,900 Median: $364,270 65–74 years:Average: $1,794,600 Median: $410,000 75 years and older:Average: $1,624,100 Median: $334,700

Come on, any chart "floating around X" must surely present the most credible information. 😃 These numbers are more inflated than James' 2021-2022 Solana and Eth price predictions.

Do they define “net worth”? Would a primary residence count in that number for the purpose of that report? Or is that strictly investments?

I think your primary home is included, because it's part of your net worth.

DAVE HODL

yeah it's part of your net worth but when you sell you will lose somewhere between 20 and 27% of that particular "NET" worth. Cap Gains, real estate commissions, depreciation pay back , state taxes ,fees etc. I own a lot of Real estate that's sort of illiquid which I hate. If I could sell it all in one fell swoop I would.. Although if real estate tokenization becomes a real thing then maybe I hold on. That's why I multiply my real estate holdings by .75 to determine my Real World net worth! BTC and stocks are only 18 -20% depending on earned income in the year taken. Comments appreciated!
