This isn't abstract—SoftBank is "currently initiating the process," positioning AI as a "thousand-armed deity" multiplier for workers. For coders, the "safe" career myth crumbles, much like how AI image generators disrupted artists.

The profound takeaway? Adapt or risk obsolescence in an era where AI doesn't just assist but replaces.

Softbank will send the first billion AI agents to work this year "The agents will be active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and will interact with each other", said Son. They will learn independently and gather information. The Japanese businessman expects the AI agents to be significantly more productive and efficient than humans. They would cost only 40 Japanese yen (currently around 23 euro cents) per month. Based on the stated figure of 1,000 agents per employee, this amounts to 230 euros per month instead of a salary for one person."

A LESSON IN THE SPEED OF DISRUPTION

Cursor's Rapid Integration of Grok 4

Cursor, widely regarded as a leading AI-powered code editor (essentially an enhanced IDE like VS Code with built-in AI for autocompletion, debugging, and code generation), exemplifies how the industry is racing to leverage cutting-edge models. What is insane, is when Grok 4, xAI's flagship AI released on July 9, 2025, during a livestream event, was integrated into Cursor almost immediately—within hours to a day of launch, as announced by Cursor's team.

Cursor the AI Coding Tool got disrupted in HOURS!

I honestly don't know how to advice my children yet as they years from Uni yet All I can do is invest wisely (pension and health) so can be around to guide them and hopefully financial woes won't exist

90% of my code (big tech) is being written by agents. Adapt or die

This is blowing my mine. This will scale immensely. Has China already won they produce the most energy? Like having a drag race between a car with a supercharged v8 and a tiny 4 cylinder.

Japan has a history of attempting to implement technical projects and completely screwing up. I live here. They spent years (since 2015) and massive amounts of money (given to Fujitsu) attempting to implement a new digital system that combines many government services into one. Akin to the UK's National Insurance card/number system. In Japan it is called "My number" they completely screwed up (resulting in people's data being hacked and digital services turned off). Japan is panicking with the massive population decline and lack of skilled labour and pushing technology that's not ready yet. I've lived here for ten years. I'm a software engineer. Working in ed-tech. Japan is lagging at least a decade behind the tech curve. They are just good at making it look otherwise on the surface. Ps: YAHOO still advertised on TV here. Go to Yahoo.co.jp for a blast to the past!

I think about this a few times a week as well. The best I’ve come up with is focusing on power generation and trade jobs (electrician, plumbing, welding, hvac, etc.) “The Singularity is Nearer” by Ray Kurzwell gave me some optimistic hope that we’ll adapt like all other technological advancements. However we might need to truly become cyborgs with chips in our heads…

Learn to not code

Tux

This is not going to end well. You still need supervision for the time being

GloMa

Mindblowing.

I use Grok 4 on cursor it struggles at tasks that Claude or Gemini have no problem with

Also masayoshi son has a history of things blowing up in his face 😆

As a software engineer with over 20 years of experience and who has played around with those models, I can tell you with certainty: it's not over just yet ;-) But the pace at which those models and tools improve is astounding. I would not consider this anymore if I were 18 and had to pick my future career path. Juniors are pretty much toast already. Seniors have a couple more years left if they embrace AI.

I’m vibe coding a simple app to that will help me learn complex concepts faster on Replit (amazing btw). A very part time project I had a decent MVP in a few hours. 🤯
