The Laffer Curve is an economic theory suggesting that there is an optimal tax rate that maximizes government revenue. If taxes are too low, revenue is limited. However, if taxes are raised too high, the rich people leave to avoid or evade taxes, ie leave the country to reduce their taxable income.

Per my data, UK leads in millionaires per capita fleeing than any other country on earth.

In this case:

  • The UK increased the capital gains tax, expecting to boost revenue.

  • Instead, high-net-worth individuals and families left the country, likely to avoid the higher tax burden.

  • This exodus led to an 18% drop in net capital gains tax revenue, resulting in a £2.7 billion loss, as reported by the Financial Times.

I don’t mind paying tax, but fair tax. The UK has screwed up and I’m also pondering the future. The family is the only thing stopping me at this moment

Governments aren't dumb. Politicians are corrupted by big money. Big money wanted to give themselves big tax cuts for the last 20 years. Now that they've kept so much money over that time, and when tax rates need to return equilibrium to balance the budget, they leave. The Laffer Curve is short sided. A longer term needs to be taken into account. Artificially low taxes rates (tax cuts financed with debt) put us in this position. Essentially, we need to undue the last 20 years of tax cuts. There's nothing that can be done with people leaving, consider it a lesson learned.
