Cancer Breakthrough: Using Bacteria to Kill Cancer (Patreon)
Content
Remember 40% of us will be affected by cancer in some way during our lifetime, either personally or through a loved one. Early detection and prevention are crucial. I believe advances in AI-driven medical research will deliver groundbreaking treatments and solutions in the coming years, so stay healthy, my friends.
Here is the latest
This breakthrough involves using bacteria to deliver viruses directly into tumors. The idea is that bacteria can naturally enter tumor tissue, which often has a unique environment that attracts them. Once inside, the bacteria carry viruses that can attack and destroy the cancer cells. The image shows a microscopic view of this process, with different colors highlighting the bacteria and viruses working within the tumor. This method could offer a new way to target cancer like lung cancer more effectively.
The more complex Science:

Scientists have created CAPPSID, a novel cancer treatment that teams bacteria and viruses to infiltrate and destroy tumors.
The approach uses Salmonella typhimurium as a "Trojan horse" to smuggle an oncolytic virus past the immune system and directly into cancer cells.
Inside the tumor, the bacteria release the virus, which multiplies and spreads, killing cancer cells from within.
Safety is ensured by engineering the virus to depend on a bacterial enzyme found only inside the tumor, preventing it from spreading elsewhere.
Tested in mice, CAPPSID marks the first engineered partnership between bacteria and viruses for cancer therapy.
