Polestar: The EV maker reported a $1.03 billion net loss for Q2 2025 (up from $268 million last year), issued a "going concern" warning indicating potential survival risks, and took a $739 million impairment on its Polestar 3 SUV due to low margins. It's also exiting China after selling just 69 units in H1 2025.

Nissan: Facing a potential financial disaster with a 90% profit drop in recent quarters, declining global sales (down 3.8% in H1), failed merger talks with Honda, and factories running below capacity. Analysts predict bankruptcy risk within 2 years

Stellantis (parent of Chrysler, Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Maserati, etc.): Suspended 2025 financial guidance amid tariff uncertainties and market impacts; overall group facing headwinds like weak sales and leadership shakeups. Prob dead by 2028.

Ford: Anticipating a tough 2025 with billions in EV losses (e.g., Model e division down $1.3 billion in Q2 alone), slowing sales, and tariff threats hitting imports. The company rejigged EV plans after cumulative losses exceeded $5 billion, amid broader affordability issues. I am pretty certain copying tesla 5 years later and launching their Tesla killer 3 years from now is not going to save them.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) was always a disaster. iPace is discontinued after selling them to Waymo. DOn't get me started on their ad campaign

Rivian: Altho they make the second best Electric Truck,,, they are not fungible as a going concern without tons of injections.

Lucid - was always a dead man walking with a sociopathic CEO - they whacked him last qtr. They survive on Middle Eastern Money - same backers as Uber... hence the funding and partnership.

Mitsubishi - same bucket as Nissan

I just read a post of a guy who had a ride across Austin for 2.50 or so while Uber would charge 12.50 Are James projections of making 50000 a year with a driverless taxi based on these cheap prices or on a regular rates(lets say 5.00 for a similar ride) as soon as competition is wiped out?

Their ad campaign 🙄 said all that needed to be said about the company and its future. Feel sorry for the workers having such useless management.

Could you give me your thoughts on the Korean Car Manufacturers Kia And Hyundai please. Seems like they make decent EVs.

Tesla Y is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned. I will never go back to an ICE vehicle.

I think when people finally accept that Teslas are robots on wheels versus just EVS there will be a clear distinction of smart EVs and dumb EVs…

Jaguar killed themselves with their ads.

It's such a delight. They went a little backwards on seat comfort, but everything else is a terrific upgrade from my 2020 one which was already by far the best car I'd ever driven.

James what are your thoughts on Toyota

Once Jag in drag launched the 00 their legal team immediately commenced preparing their Chapter 11 bankruptcy paperwork

When do we buy puts on these? Or is our capital better spent elsewhere. Just seems so kindergarten-easy to win on buying long-term puts. I bought a single long term put on GM, recently...but seems Lucid or Stellantis would be faster horses.

As a JLR employee I feel I need to stand up for them a bit whilst also understanding the outsider views - 1. Comparing them to Tesla, Stellantis or VW etc is ridiculous. They are a tiny car maker in the grand scheme of things, making high end luxury SUVs and their USP is their world famous brands like Range Rover / Defender. These are British insituations and will not go away for a long time. People want high end luxury SUV vehicles and these brands are huge in the space. 2. I-Pace is have been around since 2019, its being discontinued to make way for the new evolution of the Jaguar brand (see 3.) 3. Jaguar is moving back towards the original idea of high end luxury, thinking outside of the box, think e-type. Whilst the brand ad was bizarre I think in a weird way it did it's job perfectly, it got you all talking about a brand which people forgot about. PS the real car itself looks incredible and i'm sure will be a hit.
