This was fascinating. I know Germans are very underweight risk assets...but what got me was UK and Australia. I can guarantee you all the Ozzies and Brits here in this community are very heavily weighted Equities.

Some things I see. People’s allocations looks very different depending on where they live:

  • In Asia (China & Korea) most family wealth sits in property. The Chinese got creamed on this the last 5 years.

  • In the US it’s more in stocks, bonds, and other financial assets.

That difference shows what people trust:

  • In the East, people trust land and homes.

  • In the West, people trust markets and paper assets.

But with inflation, the big question is:
People are slowly realizing the FIAT world is coming to an end... the future is AI and Crypto....

Don't forget they want to also bring in un-realised capital gains tax and tax on empty bedrooms. Orwell was so right

Good Idea

Maybe it's a cultural thing

another issue is Australians invest way too much in their own market which makes up less than 2% of world markets. Heavy concentration in big 4 banks which may get disrupted in less than 10 years

Would be nice to know the "mean" or exclude the top 1%. Since it skews the data so much.

Partly. It SE Asia land prices are super high compared to average wage. For most people it is the most secure and "real" wealth.

In Aus most investments beyond Real Estate is in Superannuation, taken directly from pay. Very little post mortgage/super/bills is put into other investments. Sad fact is the Super schemes are all poorly managed, mostly chase beta and are highly AU skewed. Most Australians retire not fully funded

Most people i know in UK do not invest in equities direct, maybe through financial advisors and bank funds. Why, usual story, fake news MSM keeps the fear and risk high. Com’on still no BTC etf - UK is 🇨🇳

uk being an island relatively small compared to mainland europe australia and usa property is in short supply to demand since i was a kid in the 70s its been majority peoples main goal, and in the south of uk property has been the acidental best investment. im probably 90% property 10% crypto looking to transition into retirement
